@Post 56: I do get taxed for downloading straight from the shop channel. I have to pay my city's tax, even though it is just a download and I'm not using a Wii points card. In Chicago (where I'm from), there is a 10% tax on entertainment goods because they are seen as unnecessary. That tax already applies to digital downloads for the Wii.
Don't you pay city and state taxes already? I'm from Chicago and when I buy a game on the virtual console using my credit card a 10% Chicago city tax is added to my purchase.
The reason I hate this game is that on Level 5, which is inside the pyramid, if you die at the boss you go back to the start of the level. It is one of the most tedious things I've ever experienced in a videogame. The level itself is very boring so after one or two tries I can't take the game anymore and need a break from it which can last months. The boss doesn't even seem that hard but because he changes forms and attacks and the fight takes place in such a small place, I can't help but take a hit at least once. It just makes me mad because the game was really fun UP to this point.
Personally it doesn't bother me. I'm a college student and I could never afford to buy all the great VC games already out. Growing up, I had a Genesis and so did all of my friends and I never got to play the SNES much at all, so just with that system I'm swamped with games to download. What is already out is more than enough to satisfy me. In a way, I'm relieved that the VC has slowed to a trickle.
Personally, I found LostWinds boring; even with the short length. My first time through, I finished it in just over two hours and found all the idols and still thought it lasted too long.
@ Mickeymac That comparison doesn't work; Mario and Mario 3 are completely different games. The only thing similar are the most basic things like Mario, koopas, and Goombas are in it, everything else has completely changed from level layout to bosses to powerups. Street Fighter II and 3 don't apply because of their different roster of fighters. Smash Bros kept the same list and added to it (with the loss of MewTwo, but he sucked). However, there is no reason to play the first version of Street Fighter II anymore because the later versions of that game are smoother, faster and have different characters (to be fair, I never played too much Street Fighter though).
Another problem with the original Smash Bros is that it boasts some of the worst graphics on the N64. I mean compare Mario in Smash Bros to that of Mario 64 and there is a big difference. You can hardly make out what’s going on anymore. Personally I feel that 2D games have aged better then early 3D games in this respect. For instance, in the original Mario, the game is so bizarre that the graphics have become stylized because of the lack of processing power. This level of stylization does not apply to early 3D games, either they look like what they are supposed to or they don’t. Bad 3D graphics amount to fuzzy polygons; in contrast, making Mario on the NES required him to look the way he did because they couldn’t make a realistic looking man with the systems power.
No, but I'm guessing it might be as long as after New Years. Most offices are either not staffed or partially staffed this last week and next week. They probably just got overwhelmed and want to wait until most of the problems are solved before relaunching it (for the third time).
Wasn't this game featured on Muppet Babies? The episode where Miss Piggy and Gonzo are competing in several things to see who is best. ...I can't believe this just popped into my head. I haven't seen that show since I was 4 or 5.
This game has not aged very well at all. Have any of you played it recently? It's just terrible and with Melee and Brawl being more updates then sequels, there is no reason to ever play this game again.
@ACK! Thanks! That sounds like a ringing endorsement and I too love a good (or even decent) platformer. In my opinion, the kazoo is an underused instrument. I'll definitely pick it up sometime in the future once I have gotten through my stack of games that need to be played.
@Corbie Definitely dust of Sailing the Seas of Cheese! That's a great album and very weird (but which Primus album isn't?) "When the going gets tough and the stomach acids flow..."
I was just watching the video and spotted this; at Zero Polis which starts at 4:55, the enemies are Dom mobile suits from Gundam. Why are they in there?
I could hardly hear the guy over the pseudo-asian music. What I did pick up was that it seems that you can change any title to the color you want; then what's the point?!
@ Corbie - Except for Ghouls 'n Ghosts and 1941, there isn't much info on the other Supergrafx games on Wikipedia. Since you are the expert; what are they like/ about?
This game doesn't mess aground! I've beaten all the original Mega Mans but this is much MUCH harder. I feel like the developers are trying to overcompensate for there not being an original Mega Man game in years and make it cheaply hard. What I mean is that while the old ones are hard, if you can master the first game the rest are just variations of the same thing. In this one, I feel like you need to play the stages over and over again in order to memorize everything because things you didn't expect will kill you instantly. That's just my view. It's still pretty damn fun though.
Frat Party Games™? NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I play videogames to AVOID frat guys! They've embraced the 360 because of the macho shooters; I thought they would stop there...I was wrong! Now they are invading my innocent Wii, when will this nightmare end?
@Dazza It looks really boring, but you're right, better not jump the gun and say it's bad until Paul's review. Who knows, underneath that dirt there might be some gaming gold.
The only Metroid games I've played have been Metroid Zero Mission and the original. I found them to be..."meh". They don't hold my attention for more then a couple hours then when I go back, I'm completely lost. I hear Super Metroid is one of the greatest games ever. Is Super Metroid WAY better then the other Metroid games? Given my past experiences, do you guys think I would like it?
I'm so excited for this, you wouldn't believe it! I've never played a master system in my life. I hope the games are great! What am I talking about, this is old school SEGA, of course they are!

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
This is a great game! I thought the main quest was somewhat boring though (at least at first). The sub-quests are what make this game special.

Re: Take Five and Double It!
This is a lot better, nice going guys!
Re: TwinBee
Upon consulting Wikipedia, I see that this game was released in North America under the name Rainbowbell. So I have played this before.
Re: TwinBee
Did any game in this series come out in NA? I'm watching the clip and shooting the bell brought back a serious feeling of deja vu.

Re: Bomberman '94
I have Mega Bomberman; how is this "superior" to the megadrive one? Isn't the megadrive a more powerful system?

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
I'm actually as excited as a little kid right now!
Re: Tiki Towers Lined Up For A Christmas WiiWare Launch
Looks like it could be fun, but the price is a bit steep considering that it's a cell phone game. I mean you can buy paper mario for that!

Woah this actually looks awesome! As long as the putting controls aren't as twitchy as the putting in Wii sports then we're good.
@ACK!
Is Mushroom men any good? What I'm interested in is the music since it was done by Les Claypool.
Re: Bang!
The graphics make me want to puke.

You mentioned Retro Gamer; don't you write for it?

Re: WiiWare Announcement Blowout - Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands and More
I don't know...
I love the NES version of Bubble Bobble, but the DS remake sucked ass. I'm not that optimistic about a Wii remake.

Re: Star Soldier R And Critter Round-Up Hit The USA Today

Is this the same game as the arcade game "720"?
