Re: Review: Ghost Song - A Potent Mix Of Metroid And Dark Souls, But Maybe Not On Switch

Herman187

@Jcdbengals that must be a lot of physical junk (in or out of the sometimes obnoxious boxes) lying around the house. Too much depreciation in the value of L.E./S.E. physicals ever since almost every game was deemed worthy of the like.

How you still find joy in it is bewildering, yet causes a glint of jealousy, as I'd love to feel the excitement of an unbox or knowing I had something that was truly limited and likely sought after. Even though I feel that the legitimacy of my last sentence when coupled with the sheer number of S.E.s released, is highly inaccurate.

Re: Review: Cult Of The Lamb - Animal Crossing Goes Bad In This Satisfyingly Stressful Sim

@HeadPirate "You should keep looking for a group that makes you feel like that, seeing you're clearly not part of one right now."

I chose this, out of a reply that was packed with very subliminal/low key/vague shots at the OP. If you're going to knock someone's religion, don't be subliminal about it. Passive aggressively tearing someone down is quite hypocritical, especially based upon the community you've seen to have found for yourself, and the values they represent on the daily. The same community which makes you feel like an individual snowflake. As, of course, no 2 snowflakes are identical, and people who take the time to look, can appreciate the differences.

In the bigger picture, people come here for video game banter. Why? Because, as Corey Taylor taught me a couple decades ago, "People = S#!+".
With the rise of both sides of political extremity, and a president who left office with a message of "Do or say anything, consequences and repricussions are minimal at worst and usually not real". People began to feel and act like they were invincible.

This was followed by the most hate related violent crime we've ever seen (in the US at least). End result is a net loss for humanity. People live day to day feeling like everyone is out to get them, and that they're the minority...no matter how true that actually is..pent up anger and frustration will only lead you there. Media has played a influential, if not crucial role, in suggesting that people subscribe to this philosophy. In the end, nobody is at fault yet everyone is at fault. The exacerbation of said issues was caused by 1 person, and his minions. Kinda like a cult was being formed, to bring this full circle...And here we are.

Any word on when the performance update is coming. I'm interested in this but feel like I'm hearing polar opposites between consumers experiences and the reviewing media's take. Not buying till I got some definites on these things.

Re: Review: Pillars Of Eternity: Complete Edition - The Game That Saved Obsidian Comes To Switch

Herman187

@Laxeybobby A "premium" would suggest that you paid more than the MSRP. Why oh why would anyone do that?
The game deserves to be fixed, but not due to your entitled logic of paying more, or even retail, for said goods would suggest. Everyone deserves to enjoy the game in it's fixed form, regardless of dollars spent, providing it wasn't pirated/stolen. Simply because people need to stop accepting broken games, no matter how small the annoyance may be. However, as long as we, the consuming public allow devs and pubs to use us as glorified "Paying NOT Paid Beta Testers" and patch later, this reactionary instead of precautionary expense cutting tactic will keep getting worse.
With the completely screwed retail release environment we now live in, I try my hardest to avoid paying full retail price, let alone a premium. Too much shady practices and cringeworthy business going on before a title hits the shelf.
Don't even start talking to me about physical vs digital price points generally being equal. Or the GOTY Edition of a game being on sale, but since I bought the game on day 1, it literally costs more to just grab the dlc....just bc you were an early adopter championing whatever game. Thats the thank you for doing so. Both of these things happen far too often, and def support my attempts to avoid full retail price. I would never shut up about the ass backwardsness in both theory and principle that are at play here. Givenn the time, this could easily turn into something that rivals the length of a senior thesis. So I'm going to stop....now.

Re: DuckTales: Remastered Is Leaving The Wii U eShop On 9th August

Herman187

@victordamazio welcome to the Entertainment Industry's world of prioritized contracts with multiple infinite revenue streams. This is in part because the Parent Companies of most media STILL view the legitimacy of the video game industry as being in its infancy. Unfortunately, compared to the longevity of the big 3, it still is. Film, TV, and even music (although music distribution has changed dramatically over the past decade) get incentivized contracts where both sides have some give and take in negotiations.

Gaming, sadly not there yet. Very 1 sided contracts, and the licensing fees are avoided in terms of paying them in any sort of longevity, in any way possible. It's not a flat fee in other forms of media, and it's not clear cut in game distribution which one is more lucrative. Most IP holders don't want to chance sales in a market they know very little about, so it becomes an expiring one sided deal for the most part. Until these parent companies actually start to respect and understand the legitimacy of game publication and development, on the level of every other form of media, it will always be that way to some extent.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Physical And Digital Pre-Orders Are Now Live

Herman187

@DockEllisD crazy, I know...I know, but Google (or my phone's built in app, a toaster oven, refrigerator, and lamp) have these amazing built in capabilities, which convert currencies. Being that "x", or in this case the MSRP, remains constant per law n what not (it's set by the company, not the store)...figuring out YOUR Retail Price per country would take approximately 8.2 seconds.
If Canadiadada were listed, all countries would have to be listed, as that just would not be impartial otherwise. And Drake would have a fit, as he's bi-country citizenship, so all remains relevant in the eyes of Mr OVO. I mean, what else would he be doing when not giving Nick-rhymes with Purse-Nurse (Raptors head coach, and cult leader of Jurassic Park) courtside rubdowns? After all of Canada is eliminated from the NHL playoffs, does the entire country get in the basketball train, or is that exclusive to Northern Buffalo/Toronto?
Tbh--Toronto has the best strip clubs on the planet Earth....

What would the correct assumption about your self-affirmed (see wording of your reply for further info) mental weakness be? It's cool, May is Mental Health Month, and we all got something not quite right goin on up there....no shame, no judgements will be made, dog.

And, see...context is key. Based on your comment, anyone with a modicum of intelligence would gather that the statement you provided was based solely upon the review at hand. Since, no other info was even vaguely suggested, implied, inferred, nor noted.

Re: Review: Shakedown: Hawaii - A Promising Game Buried Beneath Tedious Busywork

Herman187

@Fake-E-Lee you're that influenced by a singular opinion? That's scary. Just in a general, all encompassing every aspect of life, kind of scary. Most other reviews tend to skew a bit higher, to a lot higher.

Personally I'll be purchasing this on my Vita, as you also get the PS4 version included. Since it's the same price on all consoles, I'll be tricking my feeble brain into thinking that I'm paying $9.99. Well, I kinda am....
With Sony getting rid of most Vita related perks, I'd be silly not to grab this before Cross-Purchase isn't a thing anymore.

Re: Capcom Home Arcade Is A Plug-And-Play Arcade Stick Packed With Classic Games

Herman187

@NEStalgia Im relevant to each site I contribute my glorious thoughts to, so as that unique snowflake I'll incorporate the site subject matter into said name. I like names. To stay poignant, I'll also be the guy to name drop premium arcade sticks, bc words and claiming ownership of expensive materialistic thangalangs!
When a better and actually logical rebuttal in denouncing a stic (for the first time in life) would be that 85% of the games listed don't benefit from an arcade stick.
Not to mention, the stick itself is the historic, prominent, and culture shifting Capcom logo. Therefore, I believe the Capcom logo is ugly by proxy. I'll stick with my Accolade, D3, and SUCCESS logos.

Re: Review: Devil Engine - A Brutal Yet Rewarding Tribute To The Likes Of Thunder Force And R-Type

Herman187

@roadrunner343 yeah, ok. You keep telling yourself that. I clearly addressed MARKETING. AND THE IDEA OF CERTAIN DEVS NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD MUCH, IF ANY AT ALL. Furthermore, skimping on niche games at full price, and waiting for a 90% off sale doesn't help things. Likely making any budget FOR MARKETING even less likely moving forward.

Maybe it's just your reading comprehension skills? I'm utterly bewildered by your lack of competence in developing a calculated or poignant reply. Only utterances of "u makes nuh senz. Do gud job uv bein dum onya selfown." And repeated it over n over because it negotiates the context of a logical counterpoint, and occasionally tossing in a personal anecdote to quantify your ideas. Albeit, clearly stating something directly regarding my intelligence, or apparent lack thereof, just a bit earlier? No, I insist...you're doing a good job of attempting to troll, or honestly I don't know. I'm hoping that the most logical explanation, I'm accidentally arguing with someone who has mental disabilities, just is not the case. Explanation 2--you're related to Mr. Trump, and exhibit your logic in a fashion which happens to wear it on one's sleeve?
Maybe it's delusional behavior? No clue, just creepy.
If you purchased a game that retails for $9.99 as part of a bundle for a dollar, I hope you allocated your payment to the developers. As mostly all reputable "bundlers" give you that option. Also, I hope you pick up the newly announced physical edition. It even has a fantastic limited edition, including things a fan would gladly pay more for. With the amount of free content provided post release, it's the only real way to actually support the company at this point. Really, just to repay the fine folks at Team Cherry for all of the stuff they have given us, that's just taken for granted.
I will say, the example you chose to use, is an anomaly. Most titles of its scope don't have the same fairytale ending in regard to their success. So yeah, sure....being cheap was harmless in the case where a game by a tiny team that started as a Flash Game, then PC/Steam/GOG, n then a multi console port. That clearly hurt no one. Either did buying Shovel Knight on sale? But that was to get a 3rd port of the title. I had already funded it prior to launch, and bought a physical copy 1 or 2 more times post launch, to introduce it to friends (free advertising, because my original point...indies can not regularly advertise/market games, grassroots support in its place, etc)

I'm done now, as you're bothering me. I'd gladly partake in intellectual discourse. Yet, I ultimately and repeatedly feel as if I'm doing all the work upon engaging with you. Good luck learning how to correspond with others.

And again, you're establishing your own narrative. I never discounted other media outlets n online resources as tools to market any kind of media. People actually have pull, and are used for their influence. Sent free products, be seen in/with/enjoyed and people will buy.

Again, never my point. Only the sad fact that lots of people have entirely missed out on Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, and plenty of other games. Because the capital to make use of a commonplace ad campaign, a traditional one, and one which would reach those who aren't trendy/hipsters/fans of gaming as a hobby or lifestyle/THOSE WHO ARE A BIT TOO YOUNG TO HAVE THEIR OWN DISPOSABLE INCOME (see mom n dad) is non existent in many of these companies. Telling me that most of these companies don't unwillingly leave a portion of profit on the table, and could fare much better by having greater early adopter support....even if it means taking a chance at an unfamiliar IP over a SAFE AAA TITLE, only further exemplifies everything I've said as correct.
Btw, I own a portion of a professional sports franchise, and trade stocks as a hobby. Good, you should work at a F500 Company. Even the greatest business need janitorial staffing. U understand if you tend to refer to yourself as a Custodial Engineer though.
I'll be laughing at you from courtside tonight. Gotta run, my driver is here. Nitwit?? Possibly.
And good product equals recognition and dollars, would completely negate the reason for hidden gems existing, and most of the best music selling the least.
Honestly, I just forgot to address your final logic bomb above. Now let's figure out how to ignore weird liars unintelligent comments. FFS, get a tutor......done.

Re: Review: Devil Engine - A Brutal Yet Rewarding Tribute To The Likes Of Thunder Force And R-Type

Herman187

@retro_player_22 I feel ya. Times is tough. It was more about my view of that opinion in general. Mostly when the same person eventually asks "why did we never get more games like _______?". Which they didn't support until it was $1.99 on a Flash Sale, so the devs could mostly recoup losses at that point, if anything. Yet Battlefield 5 was a day 1 purchase for them?? It's all good though.

Re: Review: Devil Engine - A Brutal Yet Rewarding Tribute To The Likes Of Thunder Force And R-Type

Herman187

@roadrunner343 No, just no. You seem to insult my intelligence, which completely negates any relevant facts provided. I won't criticize your mental capacity, and honestly find it a weak yet abundantly popular defense mechanism. You didn't bring up marketing. Ok? And? I did. Yay!! Which, I'll gladly provide a friggin bibliography for, since I'm "wrong". If only because facts are facts when they're factually facts. And that's a fact. Saying something is wrong provides no value, without more factual information to ba-ba-back it up, gurrrl!! Personal anecdotes are not. That's you, your purchasing habits, web viewing habits, etc. Not that of a sample size, which is needed, to even begin to consider something/anything right or wrong.
Sadly, criticism is levied by sarcasm, which apparently is a gift and a curse. It flies right over the heads of some, unfortunately. This isn't a shot at your intelligence. Just an unfortunate reality, almost an immunity of sorts. In this case I was merely acknowledging the terrible business practices deployed by The AAA Gaming Industry to increase profits, and the absurdity and bizarre that comes along with it. Dunno if you're familiar with Japanese gaming culture, but some of the "statues" produced for Limited Edition runs of niche works, definitely fall into the category of "fan service gone too far". Clearly what my reference to phallic imagery was being used to eluded to. Definitely on topic, all things considered. Have you seen the price of skins in some recent releases? Cockoins aren't too far from becoming a reality.
My larger concern now, is the possibility of a profound latent homophobia in yourself? I brought up a bird and you called me names. Odd, maybe just a coincidence though.
Btw, please direct me to the marketing for this, Black Bird, Rolling Gunner in the US, that isn't showing up in either a Twitter feed of someone already balks deep in the genre, or via Steam or the Eshop, as a random add upon release. Again, not even sniffing a new audience, due to financial restraint limiting the marketing if the company wants to release a full featured product, maybe some in game extras/surprises, while still turning a profit as a self-publisher.

Re: Review: Devil Engine - A Brutal Yet Rewarding Tribute To The Likes Of Thunder Force And R-Type

Herman187

@roadrunner343 you would only read a review about such a niche title if prior interest in said genre was present. Simple economics at a 60 dollar price point differ drastically from that of a $19.99 game. As does the risk vs reward, and initial investment. Please, logic. Compare apples to apples. Anyone who owns a current gen gaming system tends to fall into the economic demo to make small purchases without consequence. Waiting for sales, as I said, is strategically sound when approaching the Ace Combat series, for example, and having some interest....yet realizing that the last release was on the ps2 (excluding spinoffs), therefore not wanting to use that as a measuring stick to gauge your interest. Clearly, your interest gauge will be skewed circumstantially and unfairly. However, if the new Ace Combat were at a $20 price range, I'd bet most people would safely take the jump.
Also, "marketing" can not be at fault for a doujin/indie horizontal scrolling STG's sales in general. Japan or the US, most of these small companies don't have a Promotions Department. Common prioritization of a small business structure. In reality, most people wind up wearing all of the hats, so any promotion at all is a plus. In turn, the uptick in full price sales would benefit more than just the company, by maybe giving them more capital to focus on promo going into their next project. More importantly, it will provide other development houses both large and small cold hard data to base a decision on, if they are looking to dev or publish a game in a genre which sees few releases that aren't safe re-releases, simply because of the fear that comes with the economic viability attached to said genre.
It's not as bad as buying all games used, or supporting only big name publishers via Day 1 purchase of the "$150 Stupid Edition" of whatever game they just creatively regurgitated, that comes with an anatomically correct statue of the lead designer's nether-region, celebrating the huge balls it took to push out buggy unfinished assets from 2 sequels ago, and actually call it a game, or be comfortable with people spending money on.
To bring it full circle, the majority of people waiting for a $19.99 game to go on sale, are those who are also buying said Stupid Edition with Sculpted Phallus, not forgetting to pick up the in game currency called Cockoins, to make cosmetic changes to the phallus at...uhhh...at hand...yea, sure why not. NOT the people who are in a economic bind of any kind, as the trend there economically tends to actually prioritize hours of quality playable content and replayability, when purchasing a new game. As enjoyment over time becomes a huge factor when you simply can't afford multiple games per quarter/half/year, and the decision becomes more substantial. Thats been enough from my mouth hole. I now must bid you adieu.
Goodbye...and, goodnight. Baaang!

Re: Review: Devil Engine - A Brutal Yet Rewarding Tribute To The Likes Of Thunder Force And R-Type

Herman187

@retro_player_22 sad that a "retro player" needs to wait for a title under $20 to drop/barely see a profit to support such a game. This is why we can't have nice things. Niche genre, original game (I know, it's on steam), and priced in the teens. All positives. Support the price point where a dev can live, and it's also not seen as a middling piece of shovelware...so just maybe the trending uptick of these titles will continue????

Re: Review: YIIK: A Postmodern RPG - EarthBound For A New Generation

Herman187

@CharlieSmile you're either a White Knight Defender of Social Injustice, looking to cash in on that gimmick. But sadly never will, until ironically the coroner morbidly defiles you postmortem.
Or, this account is a troll. You don't even get to choose your race, name, gender, voice, or hair color in a plethora of RPGs. Get over the minuscule things, and more people will take the validity of your agenda in the larger context and issues, much much more seriously.

Re: Review: Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle - The Ideal Gaming Accompaniment For Halloween

Herman187

@BigKing hey BurgerKing, you're missing the point. The game itself, as in the full game in its entirety, was NOT free. Only the first bunch of levels were free. If one were to perhaps enjoy such a game, they would have to pay to further unlock the rest of said levels. People normally do not play part of a game only. That's just a tad mildly stupid and/or illogical. Unless they happen to hate it, and decline paying beyond the free sample.
Your comparison to cosmetic IAPs is almost entirely null and void in this case, as there are not 500 socks in the game. Only a handful of socks, one for each movie in the series or "iteration of Jason", and not much else.
Just be honest next time and explain how you're having a tough time quantifying the value of a puzzle game, as you're a dullard, and likely won't be able to enjoy more than the first 2 tutorial levels.

Re: HAMSTER Acquires Rights To Complete Video System Catalogue

Herman187

@Heavyarms55 You do realize that a good amount of these retro titles came out in the late 90s, and even early 2000s if we also include the Psikyo and Data East stuff. Anything more current is going to command a higher price, making the abundance of titles Hamster is putting out now simply not logical nor lucrative going further into the 00s. Even trying to procure more current libraries of more prominent publishers would be a huge cost vs. profit risk.
I think it really just comes down to your nostalgia not being old enough yet to have a large enough library without incurring a cost prohibitive place in the market.
These games wouldn't sell if that price point was even approaching $10 (or higher). Honestly, the price is the biggest draw. And it sounds like that prohibitive price point is also right where your happy nostalgia year to dollar ratio would lead. Like $15-20 easy. Hard sell. Many.
