I pretty much played alone for the first few months. When raids came along I started to see groups forming to raid. I decided to check it out and small talked my way into the group. Now we have a Facebook group with 100+ people and alert each other of Boss raids. Sometimes we travel in groups and go gym to gym for a few hours. Old, young, shy, loud, funny, all exist in the group and its super cool. The game is fun again! I highly recommend finding or starting a local group on social media if you haven't yet. You will have at least one thing in common with all of them.
