@BulbasaurusRex Yes Kirby Dreamland is in Kirby Super Star Ultra. In the original KSS, it was only a few levels from the original, but in KSSU they added a second "game" that included the missing levels.
@Chicken Brutus Oh the IGN review didn't scare me away. I bought it on Weds. Just haven't had time to play it yet (work day, including driving, is about 12 hours + busy weekend). I'm more concerned about the lack of a progress tracking system. After being away from a game for awhile, I usually forget what I'm supposed to be doing and end up running around until I happen to do it. I've had this happen to me in SoTN, Metroid (NES), and Castlevania: PoR.
Nice review. Sounds like its the platformer I've been waiting years for. I haven't played this yet (stupid work eating up all my time during the week), so I'm looking forward to playing it tonight and this weeknd.
I do have one question. I've been reading a lot of "complaints" that its easy to get lost in the game as it doesn't do a great job of keep track of the players progress. For example, from the IGN review (before I get flamed: it was the first review I found):
"The way Shantae DSi layers levels into multiple tiers that look similar it's easy to get lost, or rather, it's easy to lose track of where you are or where you've already been."
Is this true? One of the things that bothered me about Metroid (Espcially the first) and Castlevania (post-SoTN) games is that you can forget what you need to do next if you were away from the game for awhile, even with the map system.
@SmaMan Incognito D beat me to it. They made the effort for the SNES SMAS because it was a full console release IE $60 game (Think it was $60). This is just a re-release of that game. They aren't going to remake a remake. Would take too long and cost too much money. Remember, they would have to add more to the engine (SMB 2/USA's throwing mechanic and SMB3 Flying; Not to mention all the items they would have to add it) in order to use it.
Pertaining to Peach in NSMBWii: If Peach was playable, who would have to be saved?
@NintendoWorld1 That is exactly what they should do.I would pay $30 for the SNES Classic Controller. Sadly I dont see NOA or NOE releasing it and if by a miracle they did, it would probably be over-priced. Not as much as online retailers hike up the price on the JPN controller. $80?!?!?
@WhiteTrashGuy You mean the game disk right? There isn't a DVD (movie) included, just the Soundtrack.
I already have Mario All-Stars for SNES, so this doesn't appeal to me as much I thought it would. I mean they just threw All-Stars on the disk and did nothing else. I know it comes with the soundtrack and history booklet, but that isn't enough to justify the cost. If it was a real book (20+ pages) or had a DVD with interviews to go along with the booklet, the price would be easier to swallow.
@Stuffgamer1 Like I said, I agree that they shouldn't have released Metal Slug 2. Sadly, SNK and Nintendo only saw monies and didn't put much thought or care into the decision into putting it up.
@Stuffgamer1 While lame, it still happens with games today. Don't think they should have put it on VC, but they probably only cared about the money people would pay to get it and then on Metal Slug X to play it without issues.
@MasterGraveheart I agree with you. Shantae would probably be overlooked on PSN/XBLA/Steam/etc. Not to mention the fact that the game would have to be recoded to work on those systems. I say we should be happy we got a sequel at all.
I do like the idea of a Wii-make of the original game for WiiWare. They could add a Metroid-esc map system that the game (and the sequal) badly need. And you would have to dance with the WiiMote to make Shanae dance!!! ..... Actually scrap that last one.
@Swerd_Murd If you include sale prices, then yes you will always get it cheaper. I'm just saying that normally, they cost the same amount.
Not trying to start anything, but why would you come here only to complain about *Ware and then say PSN is better? If you don't care for *Ware, then that is your prerogative. The rest of us are happy with what is on the service this week.
@Swerd_Murd ... MM10 was the same price on WiiWare, PSN, and XBLA. Also, if you have had bad lucky with *Ware titles, maybe you should wait for reviews. Just a thought.
@MysticX I admit it make sense, but I never read anything about MFC unlocking stuff in Shantae. I only heard about unlocking something in MFC through Shantae via the newsletter. IGN does insinuate that you can unlocking stuff with other DSiWare games, but WayForward only has one other game on the service (MFC). So either IGN got its facts mixed up (which isn't a stretch) or WayForward let slip some info (like extra unlockables and/or another game) that we haven't heard about yet. If there are hidden unlockables, we are bound to hear about it before the week is out.
@JesusSaves I understand how you feel, but WayForward started this series on a handheld console. Originally, Risky's Revenge was originally developed for the GBA, then was moved to the DS. It just makes sense that is was released as a DSiWare title. Making it a WiiWare title would have only increased development time and probably raised the price higher then it is. To be honest, one of the major factors in me breaking down and getting a DSi XL was this game (and the larger screen).
So very very VERY happy Shantae is out. I've been wanting a decent DS platformer that isn't a Mario game for awhile. I know I should play GBC original before Risky's Revenge, but I don't really want to wait. Anyone think that is a bad idea?
@JumpMad I pretty sure it is the other way around. You unlocked stuff in Mighty Flip Champs, the only other WayForward DSiWare game, by playing Shantae
@WaltzElf I don't agree with your analogy. People get pissed off when being sold rip-offs because they end up paying near full price for it. While Gameloft's games aren't original, they are not sold at retail price. $5 sounds OK for a game like this. Personally, I like the changes to the combat system they made. Maybe Nintendo could take a page from Gameloft and make some real updates to the Pokemon formula.
Very nice. Wish he/she listed the games next to the art though. Had a hell of time figuring out what game the Killzone pic was from and thought the OtherM pic was from Metroid Prime 3 (View the actual image URL to figure out what they are)
@maka The hombrew "conversions" of SSB are all looking good. Best on I have seen is Smash GP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCfiKjVLmug; best vid I can find). Was made for GP32 and ported to PSP.
I totally forgot about this coming out. Probably shouldn't get it since I have BlazeBlue: Continuum Shift, DQ 9, and a number of other games to play, but its looks too good to pass up. Also, its only $5. Sucks I can't just buy 500 points.... stupid Nintendo.....
Eagerly waiting the review, even though I'm going to buy it anyway.
WHAT?!?!?!? You don't want Sin and Punishment???? I would like to get different stuff too, but do not take out a game most US players have been waiting YEARS to come out here. Are you NUTS?
This was a great game I was never able to buy for my Genesis. I am SOOO happy it is coming out today. Makes this day ever better (just got hired for a great internship). And we STILL get Super Metroid today!!
The game is great. IMO, its one of the best Ninja games of the time period. Its like the current Ninja Gadiens: Its not only has the graphics, but the gameplay and control needed to be a great game. I am happy we got this so quickly.
I cannot wait till Monday. I have been wanting Super Metroid to come out for so long now and its only a day away. I should be trying to beat the original now, but I will just wait and rip open Super first.
I have to agree with everyone else. You are WAY to hard on this game. Ya its hard, but its a classic that many Wii owners love. This will be the first time I am going to actually play through the entire game. I know Zero Mission was "technically" better, but for some reason, I want to play the original more. : shrugs: I am happy they are releasing it for those who love it and those who have never played it.
I will agree that Super Metroid is a better game (which I will be playing for the first time next week when it comes to VC), but Metroid is the one that started it all. Also, where else can you use the infamous Justin Balley code? Using that right out the gate just to see it, then its back the the normal Samus.
PS Here's hoping that it is the version released on GBA, which had the save feature found in the Japanese Famicom Disk version of them game. Would make life a lot easier to have a normal and Suit-less Samus save then to have to keep entering passwords.
Had a feeling we weren't going to see any good games other then Metroid. Was hoping for Shinobi III or at least a(nother) decent platformer or action game. Oh well, getting Metroid is good enough, and next week will be even better
I am happy these are finally coming out. Never got to play Super Metroid. All I am worried about is that they will be the only games we see these next 2 weeks. Or worse, the only good ones.
samaine, you made one mistake. Super Mario RPG won't be coming out either since it was a joint effort between Squaresoft and Nintendo. I am truly sad about this because I never got to play it and was hoping to on VC. But I agree that we need more RPGs (and platformers) for VC.
Something I really want to ask to anyone who has played this: Does it actually have the rumble removed, or are we lucky enough to have the wii-mote rumble?
Today is a GREAT VC day!! I was expecting just Dragon's Curse, which looks really good. But then we get Star Fox 64, the best in the entire series, too. This is why I love having VC. I don't have to go back to my mom's and dig out my N64 just to play it anymore. I hope that Nintendo keeps releasing good games this month. Now if they would only hold back some titles so we don't get one so-so/bad title at the end of the month (I'm talking about you, Romance).
I don't know why my first post didn't (and never does) go through, but lets try this again:
Dragon's curse may not play like the rest of the Adventure Island/Wonderboy series, but that doesn't stop it from being one. Thats like saying Super Mario 2 (AKA Super Mario USA in Japan) is not part of the Mario series because it so much of a departure from the original.

Kirby?!? O_O
DAMN IT!!! I bought SML for nothing!! >.< Sorry but IMO Kirby is a much better platformer.

Anyone know why the EUR list is up already? NOA hasn't said anything about the releases tomorrow. I wana know what we get!!

@suburban_sensei You just got home from work? Dang. I'm stuck here for another 2 or so hours.
Random fun fact: Shantae GBC is selling for around $400 sealed on EBay right now. Loose/without box its between $160 and $200.

That was really well done. The costumes alone are amazing. The skit they put on just puts it over the top.
@SilverBlacktail Leave the awsome JPN LttP comercial alone! That is the awsomeness of the 90s right there!!

You think DQ9 is boring and not Etrian Odyssey? Complete opposite for me.
Anyway I suggest holding judgment until you are able to try it. Its a really good game. Enjoying it.

I really hope a review of this is posted soon. I'm really interested in the game, but if its as easy as Castle of Magic, I think I will pass.
