@Averagewriter Where did I insult you or anyone? I'm just stating you're wrong and providing the facts.

I'm not trying to start any fight but people, in this case it was you, refuse to read and research what I've been posting and repeat the statement they mentioned before when it was proven to be wrong, which is why I had to quote you once again and call out on it being wrong. I also don't exactly come to comment sections to make friends, either. There are much better places for that.

Alright bro, see you.

@NintendoPok If you don't even know how it works why even bother talking. IPs do not lose their ownership over projects such as this one, that's bs.

IP owners are however free to act any way they want over them, which doesn't mean it must lead to a C&D. They can ignore it, green light it, or get to an agreement. There's tons of examples like Black Mesa, Sonic Mania, Halo projects, and Star Wars fan works.

But oh well this is the internet and you're going to keep with your nonsense so. Who cares.

@Averagewriter "Each and every time" Yet again, wrong.
GoldenEye: Source went viral several times, trending on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube back in 2016 with the last release, millions of views in a week, took down ModDB servers due to heavy traffic, and had news on all gaming sites and others like Forbes, Washington Post, etc.

They got their attention and it's still there. It doesn't always lead to a C&D.

Re: GoldenEye 25 Shuts Down After Cease And Desist From 007 IP Holder

@rushiosan Ben and Yannick been working on Bond related projects for over 15 years. They don't need a "sad story" to sell a game.

Ben's level of profesionalism is rarely ever seen in indie projects such as these, too. If he wanted to land a job he'd just have to show his work and the models he sells online. Same goes for Yannick and his sound design/music.

That being said, he has absolutely no interest in working for a company or anyone, he's been freelancer since he got into the 3D world and despises the idea of working for someone.

@BulbasaurusRex I have absolutely no nostalgia for GoldenEye so that's meaningless to me in the Wii remake, in fact I can get more nostalgia out of the Wii remake than the original one.

It has little to no replayability, all the levels play out the same on any difficulty and the time trials aren't even rewarding enough.
They removed key characters like Boris, voice acting is generic and locations aren't as exciting as it was in the original to walk around the same ones that were in the movie.
The motion controls are amazing, and the game itself is good, not denying that, but there's just no point of comparison.
You can easily shoot at Oddjob in the original as well, just use 1.2 control scheme and aim freely with the stick.

And about "of course an unofficial remake was going to get shut down" - not really. This is a first for the Bond community, no other free fan project has been hit by a C&D until this one. GoldenEye: Source still lives on, so does Goldfinger 64, same applies for books, fan films, and others.

Re: GoldenEye 25 Shuts Down After Cease And Desist From 007 IP Holder

Graslu00

@Trikeboy There's nothing forcing them to act in these cases. They're free to decide if they want to let it continue, give them the green light, or just ignore - specially if it's totally free and clearly fan driven like this. And sure they don't have to provide, but they have to understand the public and request is there. Look at other companies enforcing fan work with their IP and letting them continue.

This isn't the first Bond fan game, although it is the first one that has been C&D'd.

Re: GoldenEye 25 Shuts Down After Cease And Desist From 007 IP Holder

Graslu00

@Agent069 It wasn't certain it'd get canned, this is a first for Bond fan games, and there's multiple huge releases in the past, specially GoldenEye: Source.

This is not a stunt to get more attention, as they'd never want to work for a company. At least now we get a game that could be the next Perfect Dark.

Re: GoldenEye 25 Shuts Down After Cease And Desist From 007 IP Holder

Graslu00

@Roibeard64 I can assure you they very well know about Source. It made it all the way to Washington Post, being trending on Twitter and Facebook, and have the same release times as the official remakes. (2010 for v4)

In 2016 it shut down the ModDB servers because of heavy traffic and the trailer got millions of views in a week. They definitely know about it.

And it's not incapable, fans always wanted a remake of GoldenEye but that's impossible by any official source. GoldenEye Wii doesn't apply as that's a reimagination.

Re: GoldenEye 25 Shuts Down After Cease And Desist From 007 IP Holder

Graslu00

@Roibeard64 GoldenEye: Source is known by the IP holders as well, same for other fan games. This is literally a first in the Bond community, chances were slim and yet here we are.
People keep doing these maybe because the IPs are abandoned for us people in the gaming community and want something new.

Re: GoldenEye 25 Shuts Down After Cease And Desist From 007 IP Holder

Graslu00

@Zeldafan79 This game used all original assets from scratch. Nothing from the original release.
And what did they think was gonna happen? Well, the same as any and all other Bond fan games - nothing.

MGM never showed interest on these kind of games, and it's most likely just a bored lawyer in a Monday morning. C&D are sent by third parties and not the right holders.

It's funny to mention stealing ideas or other people's work, when all of the original developer team from the 97 release were on board with this and fully supportive.

Re: Random: This Unreal Version Of GoldenEye 007 Aims To Recreate Rare's Iconic FPS

Graslu00

@BulbasaurusRex I agree GoldenEye Wii controls are awesome when playing with a Wii Zapper, but controls alone don't make a game. GoldenEye Wii is a great singleplayer experience and the gameplay feels great, I actually dislike the Reloaded versions simply because there are no motion contorls. But it's still nothing compared to what the original was.

Plus, you can play the original with keyboard and mouse anyway on PC and 60FPS, I'd rather play that. (And the original N64 version)

Re: Random: This Unreal Version Of GoldenEye 007 Aims To Recreate Rare's Iconic FPS

Graslu00

@Trajan Thanks!
As for the rules from what I remember is that they made the contract in general more expensive, and that after GE they added fees for showing Bond's death or killing "good guys", though there's not much info about it, it's known TWINE's development was way more restricted than the complete freedom GE had.

That's why we never got to see the "Death replay" again, or just use simpler animations of him falling to the ground unconcious. (Except for multiplayer, but EA being EA and having money they could've just paid the fee for that).

There's of course the requirement to have the actor playing in the game be the same (or similar fictional character) to those in the movies, so another GoldenEye remaster would have Craig or whatever the next Bond actor is playing on it again.

Re: Random: This Unreal Version Of GoldenEye 007 Aims To Recreate Rare's Iconic FPS

Graslu00

@BlueOcean What I'm saying is that even if Activision didn't make GoldenEye Wii, it'd be still really unlikely to see the XBLA version released back then.

Nowadays? It's still very unlikely, and definitely impossible to see the N64 just re-released as we know it.

A remake would be possible as you said just like we got the Wii and Reloaded version, but even then, again, Rare would need to get the publishing rights. Microsoft only got a licensed product in their game, that's it. Since GoldenEye the Bond rules on videogames changed a lot, and there are many fees (They'd of course be able to just pay them) and restrictions in the games compared to GoldenEye.

Re: Random: This Unreal Version Of GoldenEye 007 Aims To Recreate Rare's Iconic FPS

Graslu00

@BlueOcean No that wasn't the reason. Main reason, as I said, is Rare simply having no rights to publish Bond games. Activision or not, no rights = no release. Simple as that. It was released on old interviews long ago.

@Nico07 I'm in the GE:S development team and I can assure you that the community never took over the development of the mod. It's been always official releases since 2005 to this date.

Re: Random: This Unreal Version Of GoldenEye 007 Aims To Recreate Rare's Iconic FPS

Graslu00

@BlueOcean The reason they didn't release the XBLA version is due to them not having the Bond publishing rights. Even if they did to this day, they'd have to make a lot of changes to the game to fit the rules they added to Bond games after the popularity GoldenEye had.

It's very unlikely, if not impossible, that we'll see an official re-release of the real N64 game ever again.

Re: Random: This Unreal Version Of GoldenEye 007 Aims To Recreate Rare's Iconic FPS

Graslu00

@Nico07 The development continued normally as a tribute to him after his death, it wasn't continued by the community. Normal updates were pushed, and got out of beta in 2010 with the 4.1 release. The community never really had any play on development unless they applied for it.

@Heavyarms55 @AirElephant @Realnoize Only MGM, Danjaq or EON Productions could shutdown this project, but they take no action on fan projects such as this. You can check GoldenEye: Source which been around since 2005, is well known by basically everyone and we've been just fine.
