I want to thank you for the interest you have shown in our game and for the effort of bringing a review here for everyone! thank you!
I just wanted to point out that the review you reported does not tell the truth in the some points.
inconsistencies in jumping have been fixed in the Switch version.
In the game, there is a difficulty selection in the options. In the easy mode, the environmental obstacles are not punishing and the enemies present are fewer in number and with easier parameters. Players have much more time to help each other in dangerous situations (when the cat ends up in the water and the fish ends up on land).
I also want to answer the questions you asked!
When you die you are returned to the last checkpoint reached. (also works in backtracking). We also get very bored having to repeat the same level sections many times for a small mistake, that's why we put a lot of checkpoints along the levels always trying to find the right balance.
I am sorry that the trailer does not "look like it's made for a parent to play with a small child."
they are certainly an important part of the community the game is aimed at. At the events where we have shown the game, parents with small children have always been the most enthusiastic ones. The little ones loved the colours and the characters, while the parents (especially the non-gamers) appreciated the ease of control suitable for those who are not familiar with video games.
