I think some people forget the negative reception to Skyward Sword (Once the launch dust settled and the glowing reviews from the press became less relevant)
I'd imagine that the push back against a tired formula and the sheer sales success of Totk/botw has cemented it really (though I do expect the two styles to become more merged in future)
