@TysonQ7 No no, when installing the update is when you shouldn't turn it off. It downloads it in it's entirety first, it's actually really nice about letting you resume it if it fails for some reason (which happened to me about 2/3 of the way through the download...got a network error).
I'm not sure why anybody would expect it not to have an issue when it's writing system critical stuff to the system part of nand flash and you turn it off mid-write. It's definitely not the only device that would have a problem with that.
@RupeeClock in theory, you could just make a second partition on that HDD, only way to know for sure is to try it when the system is out. I'd be a bit surprised if it tried to use two partitions on the same device though.
To whoever wanted to also store stuff on the HDD...you could in theory make a second partition. Only way to know if it works is to try it when the system comes out.
It kind of disturbs me how focused on graphics people are. I guess people don't really care about how fun a game is any more. I'm sure this sounds morose, it just strikes me as something kind of wrong with the industry right now. Everyone is always so focused on the next shiny that they forget that really isn't the most important part of the game.
Eh, people complain about Nintendo 'allowing it' but honestly, they're not the thought police (all game systems have the good games and the bad, it's not their job to tell other devs their game sucks). If other developers want to make themselves look completely foolish by saying a shoddy port of a crappy iPhone game is something that will cause us to "become blown away by an engine that pushes Wii capabilities to the edge", that's on them. I definitely would never consider purchasing anything from them with this review. This game sounds like pure laziness.

Re: Wii U External Hard Drive Usage Outlined by Satoru Iwata
Purchases are tired into your Nintendo Network ID, so you'd have to redownload them.
