I have my IMAX ticket for Thursday. Watching the firat one yesterday, I forgot how well animated it was. So excited to see it on the holiday night.

Likely wait till it's on bluray or something, I don't go to theaters much anymore.

The first movie was fun, even if jack black was in it. Wouldn't mind a little more actual story this time.

No. The first movie left a lot to be desired, even for a family movie based on an already existing IP. I was going to list out my qualms with the film but the most concise way to put it is "Everything was bad except for Jack Black." Even so, he wasn't enough to save the film, and he won't save this one either, most likely.

I wasn't expecting much from the first movie, but I was still disappointed. It really felt like the epitome of soulless, corporate IP slop. Obviously I have no expectation that Galaxy will be better, but I'll probably watch it streaming with my kid at some point.

I still haven't watched the first one, just never got around to it. I don't know about the Galaxy movie, I'm pretty indifferent.

Tickets are purchased for my kids and friends. The Galaxy games are by far my favorite 3D Mario games so I'm looking forward to it way more than the first one. I figure it'll be on par with the first one: a fun movie with some cool references and a wonderful score. That with the Galaxy aesthetic on a big screen will be probably well worth the price of admission.

I’ve already read some previews, and the gist seems to be that it’s basically the first movie but more interesting. I recently rewatched the first movie, and it basically felt like I was watching an ad for Super Nintendo World.

All I want is a good time. The characters don’t need to have deep writing or complex twists, I just want to smile from start to finish.

I appreciate Liam not mentioning [REDACTED] as part of the cast, even if it’s already out of the bag.

Yes, sometimes it's OK to watch a movie that's just pure fun. It'll likely be "just" another 7 out of 10 movie, or maybe an 8. If you like or love the first movie, you'll be the same here. If you dislike or hate it, you won't be any different. With all that's going on, I imagine the pacing issue will be dialed up to an 11. Some cheesy humor is inevitable, including pop songs. The story will just be Mario and friends saving the world from Bowser again like the typical Mario game. I don't think they'll do Rosalina's backstory justice. Disney or Pixar would make it hit hard, but Illumination is just too light-hearted to show it beyond flashbacks. My biggest concern might be that there won't really be that much "Super Mario Galaxy" in this Super Mario Galaxy Movie. I want to see more locations, characters, and power-ups straight from those two games, not too much from others like Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 2.

Despite all that, I absolutely expect to like this movie more, if not actually love it. For one, Luigi has way more screen time. No more Plumber-In-Distress. With characters like Rosalina, Wart and Fox McCloud, the characters will be way more interesting. The Kongs were about the only really interesting bunch to me in the first, Foreman Spike was a very minor character, and Bowser was mainly by himself with just a henchman like Kamek to kick around. There's much greater representation of NPC and enemy characters. The animation looks gorgeous, even more so than the first movie. It'll still be an absolute feast for the fans that demands rewatching. Multiple times!

Overall, I look forward to see it Thursday evening at the same IMAX where I saw the first one!

I was very excited for the last one, this one not nearly as much, think im in a burnout phase maybe. Will probably just wait till it hits the streaming services.

I would wait for streaming as I did with the first but I'm taking my son to see it to get him used to going to the cinema and he has watched the first one way more times than I would have liked to have watched it.

My son watched the first film several times while it was on Netflix. We’re definitely taking him to watch the sequel - it will be his first time going to the cinema. Let’s see if he will watch the entire film, but I think he will love it.
