Three new releases enter the top 40 UK boxed charts this week, including WWE 2K24 at number 1 and Expeditions: A MudRunner Game at number 16.
Most notably for Switch owners, however, is Unicorn Overlord, the excellent tactical RPG from Vanillaware, which debuts at number 7. It also comfortably sold the most on the Switch, making up 60% of the platform split. PS5 made up 34%, while the Xbox systems took home 5%.
A few legacy Switch titles have also made their way back into the top 40, including the likes of Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Bayonetta 3, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

Love to see it. Been really excited to play this one. My collector's edition should hopefully arrive this week.
Hi there @Olliemar28! I think there is a typo on 35//39 (last week//this week) position. Mario Party Superstar listed as multi-platform
Thanks for the article
@Thief Same.
Not as high as I hoped, but still great considering it's the UK charts and also nice that Unicorn Overlord sold the most on Switch!
Seeing Bayonetta 3 pop back up in the charts tells me those people in the UK know what's good.
I saw it heavily discounted here as well, around the 30 EUR. If you ever hesitated, stop wasting time and just play it.
I bought it on PS5 and I'm really glad to see it debuted on the top 10. This game deserves every praise it gets.
People choosing the Switch version of Unicorn Overlord makes me happy.
I am also quite interested in Unicorn Overlord. Hope everyone who purchased it, has a great time.
This is well-deserved. The game is a gem. No regrets having this as my latest physical purchase.
Unicorn Overlord seems to be a success but I am really on the fence. The lack of a good story is a turn off, but I've heard good things about everything else.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga PS5 63%, Switch 22%, Xbox 9%, PS4 6%
Lego Harry Potter Collection Switch 73%, PS4 18%, Xbox 8%
Ideas on why the Harry Potter one sells better on Switch than Star Wars?
@imadeanaccount It's not that it has a bad story or anything though. It's a pretty generic strategy RPG story but I think it works in its favor since all the characters you recruit are so endearing. They end up taking center stage.
@imadeanaccount
You should try the demo if you haven't already!
The story may seem generic but it's not bad. Unicorn Overlord seems to be character driven. So if you like the characters themselves I think you'd still be interested in what happens.
Doesn't surprise me at all that it's selling better on Switch. Nintendo seemed to be the only platform company that heavily marketed it to the point where the demo for UO launched on Switch first right after the Direct a day before other platforms.
Beyond that, Xbox and PS gamers are likely already preoccupied with recent big RPG releases such as Yakuza Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and FF7 Rebirth. Since none of those games are on Switch, there's virtually no competition for Unicorn on this platform since Switch owners have no other major RPG to buy right now.
Wouldn't be surprised if the Switch version of UO sold best in all regions too. This system is probably the best place for smaller studios like Vanillaware to thrive.
Glad to see UO do so well! I am personally holding off on buying it and my March game will be Dragon's Dogma 2 (sooo excited) but I will pick up UO at some point in the future
I am having so much fun with this game! Unicorn Overlord is a great fit for my Switch OLED. The colors and the 2D drawings really pop out, it's stunningly gorgeous to look at. It deserves to be a big hit for Atlus/Vanillaware. I hope it continues to sell well.
@imadeanaccount Just like others have mentioned, the story is not bad. It's just not something we've never seen before; your typical good vs evil story. But the gorgeous style, strategic depth and charming characters really bring this game home for me. I'm sure reviews would have been way less positive if the story was bad in any way.
GTA V STILL in the TOP 10 tells you all you need to know about that game that keeps on giving.
Game was extremely well-optimized for the Switch, so I'm happy to see it selling well.
People know that these numbers are for physical, right? And that digital is the vast majority of sales on PS5, unlike the Switch?
@imadeanaccount The story is serviceable with a number of character motivations rolled in. I semi predicted a few of the twists but I enjoyed the bad and good endings to the game. I will say the initial plot device is misleading/misunderstood. Once the actual plot device is revealed the game’s sinister underbelly takes shape. I also haven’t slept in two days. I would say play the demo. It’s the opening hours of the game. If that doesn’t convince you then it’s just not for you.
For anyone worried about performance the game runs perfectly on the Switch. The game also looks great in portable mode. I've Played almost 20 hours so far and it's great.
Story is very similar to Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon where you have a blue haired prince returning home to liberate the land. Besides FE homages it takes ideas from FF Tactics, Shining Force 2 and many other SRPGs. Just a great game if you love the tactical genre.
One more reason to bring Dragon's Crown to Switch!
@Scollurio am I right in saying that’s now 10 years of GTA 5 in the top 10? Most weeks anyway.
Woohoo! Glad it's selling well, and that it has a lot sold on the Switch! Crazy to think so many amazing games are still releasing and selling so well on our aging, but amazing Switch! It was kinda surprising to see how little is being sold on XBox, like does that include series S/X sales too? If so, I can see why there was all that talk about Microsoft going multiplatform. I got off topic... Woohoo Unicorn Overlord!
Sheesh, Xbox sales are looking rough. As a Series X owner this is a little sad to me. Happy to see Switch doing so well though!
@Grail_Quest I'd be lying if I said I was surprised by that number. The Xbox hasn't been great for Japanese games pretty much ever and this is the very first vanillaware game on the platform... I got the collector's edition for it, but I really don't know why I bothered, my purchase won't convince anybody people actually buy games on it.
@FX29
Not just that, but I'm also getting some Disgaea vibes (summoning troops from a base panel), Soul Nomad (units are grouped in tile-based arrangements), and even Valkyria Chronicles (real-time elements, capturing forts and needing points to summon more troops).
UO feels like a love letter to the genre!
@Ralizah
I love games that look and run so well on Switch there's literally nothing I can do to improve it. THAT'S when you know you've done your job correctly.
Unicorn Overlord, 13 Sentinels and GrimGrimoire Once More are all exceptional Switch ports. Maybe 13 Sentinels had slight frame drops in certain battle segments but nothing major.
Vanillaware just knows how to optimize.
Then you look at other games like Pokémon or Rune Factory 5 and it's like... guys, what happened???
@JaxonH As I recall, at least when it first dropped, 13 Sentinels ran BETTER on Switch than it did on PS4 lol.
Their games also ran extremely well on the PS Vita. And these were fast-paced action titles like Muramasa and Dragon's Crown.
GF churns out Pokemon titles on a schedule. Now that they're these much more technically complex open world RPGs, I'm not surprised they're a mess! I believe if they took their time and just released games when they were ready, and didn't have a flotilla of merch dependent on the timeliness of their release schedule, there would be far fewer issues. As evidence, I point to the fact that Pokemon Legends: Arceus, a non-main generation game, launched without basically any major bugs or performance issues.
@JR150
It really is a love letter to the genre. Vanillaware's unique art style makes the game even more special.
I'm glad it has reviewed well an sold well. It certainly piqued my interest and was probably the best announcement of its direct for me.
I did however decide to wait for reviews, partly too because of the epic that is 2nd in the charts taking my time up.
As an aside, it;s staggering how little the Xbox games seem to be selling.
