Earlier this week, Shovel Knight confirmed he would be returning later this month on 23rd September in an all-new vertical adventure, co-developed by Yacht Club Games and Nitrome (Bomb Chicken).
If the new release date trailer for Shovel Knight Dig wasn't already enough, we've now got some Nintendo Life footage (8 minutes, in fact), direct from PAX West 2022, courtesy of our American-based producer and man-on-the-ground Zion Grassl. And we must say, it's looking rather impressive. Here it is in all its glory:
In this new, players can look forward to meeting new friends and foes, visiting strange lands, and jumping, slashing and digging your way through an ever-changing chasm of mystery as Shovel Knight.
Shovel Knight Dig will cost $24.99 USD or the regional equivalent on Switch and Steam, and will also be available to Apple Arcade subscribers. What do you think of this latest footage? Will you be checking out Shovel Knight's new adventure later this month? Tell us down below.

Looks… okay. I guess I shouldn’t complain after how much content and support Treasure Trove had, but this isn’t what I would have wanted SK2 or the next game in the series to have been.
I don’t think it is going to be as good as steamworld dig or the original shovel knight game, esp with all the extra content. I know I’ll buy it, but as someone else said, this isn’t what we were expecting a sequel to look Iike. Even gameplay looks, like this cheap couch co -op bundle i picked up with 4 games…
I'm torn... I'm interested in this game, but I'm not interested in this game, if it makes ANY sense? I hope there'll be a demo but I doubt it. I'll just see what the review says.
This looks overpriced, but solid otherwise.
is it a rouge like-lite?
Woof, looks boring
Been looking forward to this spinoff for a while now, looks great
No way that's Switch footage. Looks way too good so it must be PS6.
Looks like Shovel Knight from Wish. Not feeling this art style and gameplay looks uninspired.
They should just take their time and devote their resources & efforts to making another quality, extensive, comprehensive 16-Bit Shovel Knight 2… instead of pimping the good squire out like this smh. Treasure Trove was spectacular.
… Wun can only hope.
Looks cool. However, if I was Shovel Knight, I would peace out. Digging all the way down with no way of getting back up is a fear of mine.
I think this looks rather good it’s not what I’d want from another shovel knight honestly and would not pay full price for this but maybe someday.
Okay, watched the whole thing. The people saying this looks cheap and bad are nuts, they also might want to consider that this is a spinoff and not a true sequel to Treasure Trove (i.e. Shovel Knight 2). They never said Dig is SK2 and the screenshots provided months ago were perfect for reflecting what I imagined the gameplay would (which I like), so I don't know what all these negative commenters were expecting.
Not liking the choppy digging animation. Not choppy like low framerate, but jerky which makes me dizzy.
I prefer the look of this to the original shovel knight but then I’m a massive mr driller fan.
