Trailers, reveals, shadow-drops, speculation — it's E3 season, alright! We'll never be able to shake that term off, even if we think we should probably come up with a new name for it. And we know June is always rife with rumours and excitement, and while this one's a little bit bizarre, it certainly follows a very Nintendo pattern.
Bayonetta 3 was announced way back in 2017, and the only trailer we've seen since was shared last year (and it's above too, in case you've forgotten how brilliant it is!). And while Nintendo did reconfirm as part of its latest financial report that Bayonetta 3 is still coming in 2022, people are getting desperate for more details. Where's the news? The trailers? The glory! If Bayonetta 3 is coming out this year, then surely now is the time to show off the Umbra Witch's skills once again.
Well, in what might be a sliver of hope, fans have spotted that Bayonetta 3 is now appearing at the top of the list of Switch games on the My Nintendo Store right next to a handful of other 2022 locks like Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and Splatoon 3. And apparently, it wasn't there yesterday. Here's what it looks like at the time of writing this!
So of course this has got people very excited. But this is such a small thing, so we don't want people to get their hopes up too much. Yet, the only reason we and many others are clinging onto this is because of something that happened before the September 2021 Direct, where Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 were prominently advertised on the eShop the day of the Direct. And that turned out pretty well!
Okay, okay, it could be nothing. Nintendo hasn't even announced a Direct for this summer yet, after all. But we're hoping and praying to see more Bayonetta 3 sometime in the near future at the very least.
Do you think this means anything? Are we silly for getting our hopes up once again? And do you want to see more Bayonetta 3 soon? Let us know.

Interesting. Can't wait.
It definitely wasn't there when i was trying to preorder the XC3 collectors edition.
If Nintendo take the release of this game to the next level and offer a special edition Switch alongside the game, I'm not sure I could exercise restraint.
I mean... if the game is still launching this year, they have to give us a release date during the upcoming direct.
I'm guessing there will be an announcement during the next ND.
I mean..yea. but the longer I wait the less excited I am. It needs to release this year before my hype turns into vaporhype.
I'm just going to wait and see. I'll be keeping my expectations in check either way to avoid disappointment.
If a Direct doesn't get announced soon, I'm gonna become a serial cannibal and consume every last one of you.
Well, if the leak is to be believed, the Direct is the 15th. Fingers crossed
Well, Kamiya was mad at Nintendo for the release date. He said there wouldn’t be enough time for people to replay both games before the release of the 3rd one.
In a sense it means that it could maybe release in a month or two down the line.
August maybe?
Maybe they have only Silksong and Bayonetta 3 which warrents no Direct on itself so they'll appear on the Summer Game Fest later tonight?
@Not_Soos Not if I consume you first.
@YoshiF2 Wait when did he said that? so far as I know he just said people should play bayo 1 and bayo 2 then they could decide to play splatoon 3 or bayo 3 next. It was in japanese right? So far that's how I understood it BUT Google translator is awful so who knows what he really meant with that. And let's be honest even if it would come out in august (which i'd love), it would be more than enough to finish the previous installments before heading to bayo 3.
Anyways I can't wait for this game. All the recent leaks line up and I am sure we will see new content next week during the direct
@JessieAouV huh? I can’t find my source anymore … and it’s too farfetched for me to have dreamt it. I don’t know where’s the article. If I find it I’ll let you know. But my bet is still in end of August- start of September
I still have a feeling either Bayonetta 3 or Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will get delayed to next year
To suddenly appear like this if it's tied to a reveal, Summer Game Fest seems more likely. Sony leaked TLoU 1 for PS5/PC via their own official store which appears to be a Summer Game Fest reveal.
@JessieAouV that’s what I heard. He recommended people play through 1 and 2 before going into the new one. He didn’t mention about being unhappy with a release date (that doesn’t exist yet to the public).
I took it as “play the other two games, the third one is on the way soon.”
Well, I am going to say this now:
Nintendo Direct next week. Big announcements incoming.
I could be wrong, but that is what I think will happen.
I pre-ordered it in Summer of 2018
@YoshiF2 That makes no sense. Both games can be played through in like 10 hours. Having to buy the games would be a bigger hurdle, but I'd say just play 3, then buy the others if you liked it.
With how long they are dragging out the hype for this game I would be more excited if Astral Chain 2 got announced
Bayonetta, she's a mystery, and she's come along with a destiny. Tomorrow is hers!
Wow 2017 first announced so five years so far to make this game.
Unbelievable game development time of late.
It will hardly be a massive open world and an amazing looking game on a top end powerful system, will current bells and whistles.
Not sure what is happening in the industry of late, all development time seems to be taking a lot longer and overall quality dropping a bit, all systems and games not just Nintendo stuff.
All I know is the industry I’m in, working from home, which is not compulsory now, definitely has not helped the industry I’m in.
The problem since Covid working from home has become a thing and companies have had to keep it on after covid and these companies are definitely suffering overall for it in various ways.
I'm afraid everyone isn't excited, I would probably only pick this up if it was on a good sale. Wasn't blown away by either of the first 2, not really my type of game. Never enjoyed DMC either. Either way, I appreciate a lot will be buzzing for this, so to those folks I say, enjoy when it comes.
Never personally got the point of Bayonetta. I guess the turnoff is that every bit of gameplay footage I've ever seen from the franchise is all about "style" and "witty" repartee with zero substance; its set pieces feel like a typical blockbuster movie post-CGI, with no genuine stakes or sense of peril. Again, just my personal take. Hopefully Nintendo has some more games to show for the back half of 2022, including a firm, final, and CLOSE release date for Advance Wars.
@JessieAouV no he said, that Gamers will enjoy Bayonetta 3 more, if they play Bayonetta/Bayonetta 2.
I wanted this game but my hype for this has totally faded away and I'm not really as keen on these mindless hack and slash games as i once was. Pass.
