Zelda: Breath of the Wild came out in 2017, yet people are still finding secrets and tricks in 2022.
Last month, we saw someone collect a seemingly-unobtainable arrow by blowing themselves up a lot, and today, we're bringing you the news that someone has used a similar technique to take Link to somewhere completely out of this world: space.
As you can see from this reddit post, ThornyFox had to blow themselves up many times over to propel Link out of the planet's atmosphere and into space – where the sky is actually a different colour. It's an impressive level of detail which shows the developers behind the game really did think of everything.
However, this isn't the first time a BOTW player has ventured into space. Back in 2020, a Japanese player achieved the same feat using glitches. We just, ahem, didn't spot that particular effort. Sorry.

BoTW 2 in space confirmed.
I tried to click the play button knowing it wouldn't work in the mini article picture.
BotW was originally supposed to have aliens invading Hyrule, so.....
Evil Emperor Ganon: Curse you Link Lightyear! 🌌
The uploader was right it did look lonely in space.
Link looks down
"It's blue"
Even in BotW the planet is round. Take that flat-earthers
That Breath of the Wild even has a world sphere and space up there is just mind-boggling. Amazing!
That is awesome. Seriously. Nice work
Anyone else singing “well it’s a long way….to the top… if you wanna rock and roll!” during this?
How the heck does one acquire 60k+ arrows?! That’s insane. It’s crazy to see the planet’s atmosphere and stuff too… space looked like the Moon level in Mario Odyssey. Incredible amount of detail wow! 😍
BotW glitches/tricks/tips/hacks/etc should become a semi regular feature by now. Along the lines of Soapbox and Back Page.
Not sure what it could be called. Maybe "Broken HyRules" or something. Sorry that's a terrible terrible name 😅
@ChromaticDracula There's a really long and complex glitch called Inventory Corruption which lets you get 80k arrows of any type
Amazing on the video creator's front and doubly amazing how Nintendo created BOTW's world, even if those altitudes never came into gameplay. Wow.
Blowing yourself up is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be...unnatural.
@MarinaKat
"NOOO YOU CAN'T POST ABOUT COOL GLITCHES THEY AREN'T MEANT TO BE PART OF THE GAME!!!!!!"
that was one weird glitch
@ThornyFox Hey nice one! That was really cool, and interesting too. My mind is always blown away when seeing stuff like this. Things like that video are awesome to look at because most of us will never have the skills or patience to pull stuff like that off but I enjoy seeing what the limits of the game are. I mean people could say the same thing about how real space is nothing but a "sky color change" and there's nothing up there, but it's still really incredible when someone goes to space, largely because it's a place that we don't belong and aren't really built for it but we've overcome those obstacles and did it anyway.
It's like the Super Mario Bros. minus world, there's not much there and it's repetitive and kind of boring, but what makes it interesting is that it exists at all and there's a secret way to get there that the devs didn't think of.
@Nintendo_Thumb Yeah I agree! It's not always about the reward at the end, it's just cool to see the crazy things players have done and the places they've gone to. The devs never intended people to see or do these things yet here we are.
