Fans of gaming's indie scene will want to keep an eye on Dawn of the Monsters, an upcoming co-op brawler developed by Runbow studio 13AM Games and published by WayForward (Shantae, Contra 4, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp).
First teased back in 2019, Dawn of the Monsters has up to two players fighting giant monsters in "devastating Kaiju combat," wrecking the fictional city of New Toronto. Thanks to IGN, we now have our first proper look at the game in an all-new trailer (above) and screenshots (below).
IGN notes that the game features four playable monsters – Megadon, Ganira, Aegis Prime, and Tempest Galahad – and that each has its own Brutal Rage abilities, Cataclysm Attacks, and finishing moves. It'll include 35 missions in total, with over a dozen regular enemy types to conquer and the ability to customise your kaiju.
Dawn of the Monsters arrives on Nintendo Switch in "early 2022"; we'll make sure to keep an eye out for any more news as we get closer to that time frame.

Reminds me of the arcade/snes game King Of The Monsters. Really liked it back in the day 😄
YES, PLEASE!!! We need more Tokusatsu-inspired games!!
I’m keeping a close eye on this game as it has me interested in it.
I really hope the animation cut scenes are in the final product and not just for the trailer.
As this is a day one!
Lol, New Toronto. Love to see a game set in a fictional future version of my home town.
Anyway, I am a fan of giant monster flicks and beat em ups, so this looks right up my alley.
So, if a game took Rampage & combined it with an arena brawler version of earth defense force & put a Hades graphics filter on it?? Maybe? Pass...
I'd love to see a licensed Godzilla game like this
This looks pretty hype, though I'm kinda into this sorta thing. Bit random but, Rampage is a different style of game but I miss it after watching this lol.
Just in time for Godzilla day!
I would love to see a Godzilla game on the Switch one of these days…
@Velkku arcade version does have a switch port
Tom Norton’s probably has better donuts than the actual chain, especially if I can’t taste them
Interested, but I’d prefer a kaiju defense game - like Science Team vs Kaiju or Ultraman-type human buddy vs Kaiju instead of Kaiju on Kaiju. Still, I’ll keep an eye out for it next year.
But why does my phone insist on capitalizing Kaiju?? 🤷🏻♀️
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing is happening. I need this game now.
If this game is successful then they need to make a new Godzilla Destroy All Monsters game in this style.
Looks cool, but it's another game I'm put off because it seems to have an overly dark colour palette. I like light.
@OldManHermit
As one fellow Toronto resident to another, technically there is a New Toronto: it's the southern end of Etobicoke, by the lake. 😆

@Velkku NeoGeo/Arcade MVS. Snes was a (bad) port.
Yeah, still not a fan of that art. It looks like a cheap Flash game found online for free but just in 3D.
I'm basically down for anything that involves giant monsters, so I'll be keeping close watch on this. The kaiju designs are nice, at least. I get a good Pacific Rim vibe from it.
@impurekind It's like 60FPS with really nice animations so to me doesn't feel Flash at all. I really like how it looks.
@EVIL-C Haha, I spent a ton of time in that exact area of Lakeshore as a teen, never had any idea it was referred to as New Toronto.
