Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for Nintendo Switch appear to have experienced a strong start in Japan.
According to early sales data from Famitsu, the remakes have sold an estimated combined total of 1,395,642 million copies in just the first three days. This figure includes standard retail copies, the double pack, and download card purchases.
It does not include digital downloads via the Switch eShop, although both Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are 'best sellers' on Nintendo's digital store in this region right now.
This physical sales total means the remakes are the second biggest Switch game debut in Japan. The title still out in front is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which sold around 1,880,626 physical copies in its first three days.
In comparison to the Switch remakes, the original Diamond and Pearl games on Nintendo DS shifted 1.586 million in four days. Noticeably, the remakes have also surpassed the debut sales of Pokémon Sword and Shield on Switch, which sold 1,364,544 million units on release in Japan.
Earlier this week, UK sales data revealed the Diamond and Pearl remakes were already the second biggest domestic box launch of the year. Have you contributed to the sales success of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on the Nintendo Switch? Tell us down below.

If Gamefreak and Pokémon Company sell trash that has Pokémon logo in it, it will sell well cause it’s Pokemon, that’s how low the standards of Pokémon fans have become over the years
That's a whole lot of disappointment
EDIT: This post is meant purely as a joke. I've never played a Pokemon game and have no personal opinion on this game. Just commenting based on how negatively I've largely seen it received.
This the first time a Pokemon remake has outsold it's new generation counterpart.
Japan must love Gen 4.
@sketchturner or people just enjoy the game
@Dragonite89 I feel like the moment this argument comes up, all bets are off.
Like, it's not even about the quality of the game at hand anymore. It's just cynicism for the heck of it.
Sounds like some people here are salty still because they havent played it yet 😂
It's a good thing these games aren't broken otherwise people wouldn't be buying it.
@Dragonite89 The pokemon formula is just fun. Even if its a lazily made game. Millions of peope enjoy it. Hopefuly In January GF delivers a unique experience.
As someone who has never gotten into Pokémon before but was curious to check this game out...is it really that bad?
i'm enjoying Brilliant Diamond, I was burnt out when they arrived on DS from Pokemon.
I still have Platinum sitting here. I left off around the time i got Rotom in the game.
I think it's better than Sword/Shield. i was bored going thru the game. I just hope they don't have Platinum DLC next year.
@Not_Soos From what I understand, these games aren't bad. People just expected these remakes to have stuff that were never promised, and now they're mad that they aren't getting that stuff.
A huge thing that people are mad over is the fact mega evolution isn't in the game, when it's been phased out from the start of Gen 8.
Other people are mad because these are faithful remakes, like TPC said they were, and don't have much in terms of platinum content, outside of the platinum teams in post-game, and the platinum dex in the underground.
The games are buggy, and it was unfinished, but that's just due to ILCA being rushed by TPC to meet deadlines.. which is it's own can of worms, but only a few of the bugs actually harm the experience from what I've seen.. and it's only really effecting players who keep Autosave on.
@sketchturner @Dragonite89
It is a Joy for other peoples to play Pokemon BDSP.
@DTFaux what quality are you talking about? Ever since the move of Pokémon on Switch everything has been a screw up, cut national dex when on a more powerful system when a mere 3ds was able to fit 800+ Pokemon, a literal 3d remaster of a 15 year old game with little to no improvement instead of a proper remake like we got in the past, let’s go is an exception since it was created to attract Pokémon go fans, but if you remove your rose colored glasses you must admit that Gamefreak and Pokémon Company are deliberately doing everything they can to put as much little effort and quality to their mainline games cause they know that “it will sell well anyway “ and “people will buy it anyway “.
@illmatic20xx not an excuse to be lazy and to put as little effort as possible, especially when you’re supposed have one of the biggest and most profitable franchise.
Cue the usual salty comments, lol.
The power of the Pokemon brand is terrifying. Between this and Legends: Arceus, Nintendo is going to tear it up these next few months.
@Dragonite89 Ot was built from the ground up with current gen assets. I don’t think you know what “reskin” means.
@Anti-Matter and it’s not a joy for others especially when the owner and developer of the franchise are deliberately putting less quality and effort in their product while being more expensive. Since they know their target audience are not so bright when it comes to discernment of what a good quality game should be like for $60
@faint ok i will edit the word reskin to remaster in my comment since that’s what I really mean, I just used the wrong term, still a lazy cashgrab remaster. It could have been so much more, Shame
Up to Gen 4 Pokemon games were pretty good. It's Gen 5 where things started to go downhill.
Global launch sales:
> Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee: 3 million
> Pokemon Sword/Shield: 6 million
> Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl: ???
Expect Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl to sell 5 to 5.5 million copies at launch.
@Dragonite89 I'm tired of people making a big deal about the National Dex situation. Yes, they cut pokemon, but the number of pokemon is extremely high. We're nearly to 1,000 different species of pokemon, and including them all in one single game is just ludicrous. Many other series cut their monster rosters down each game. Persona and SMT have entirely different demons in each entry, and usually cut the demons down, with no trading to get them back in future installments. Yokai Watch 4, an example that most pokemon fans used for "HEY, THIS SERIES BROUGHT ALL OF IT'S MONSTERS!", also cut it's roster immensely, with no way to get all the Yokai, as many still haven't return, even after the updates and ++'s release.
I know you'll bring up that they promised "HIGH QUALITY ANIMATIONS AND MODELS", and yeah, they did. They didn't specify what however. They never specified if it were for a future project, or if it was going to trainer models and movements or not.. however, Legends, without a doubt does have what's promised, with the pokemon models being brand new, and the animations being new as well.
Also, as for the "reskin" thing, I'm afraid that's what a remake is. Most remakes don't change the game too much from the original version, only adding quality of life features, as well as graphical upgrades. This is a proper remake, and if you don't like it, then you don't have to buy it.. however you shouldn't insult other people who do want to play these games. Some people bought this because they want to experience the originals, but can't buy them, and others want to relive nostalgia from their past. Might I remind you that emulation is illegal in Japan, and you can go to outright prison because of it.
Gamefreak didn't develop BDSP, ILCA did, and it was their first game that they made on their own, with them not just being used as help during outsourcing. ILCA and Gamefreak aren't lazy either, it just boils down to TPC's stupid pokemon cycle, where they need the games to prop up the anime and merch, so they don't let the devs have enough time to make those games in the first place. BDSP is evident in that regard, given how half the game isn't even on the cartridge.
Anyone who says the game is bad:
1. Hasn’t played it.
2. Is objectively wrong.
It's always nice to see the Pokémon haters in their feelings anytime the franchise does well. Even though I haven't played the Remakes I still think they look pretty good and at least still have the same feel as the DS versions. People love to whine and complain anytime something isn't done the way they want it to.
@Joker1234 I swear that some of these people I've been seeing complain more about the series than anything.
I’m enjoying the game, but it’s not the game itself that’s bad; it’s the product. Likewise, I would sing my praises of DOOM 2016 on Switch (which I found far more impressive than the PC version, even with max settings), but the “physical” release was rubbish.
This is the first main series Pokémon game to have a day one update, and it wasn’t for mere last-minute bug fixes either; it was to finish the stinking game, and to date, the game is still incomplete (even with a 2.5GB download).
Version 1.0 doesn’t even have an opening or closing cinematic; just a black screen with the logo. Pathetic.
And even more laughable is that the cinematic included in the update is very heavily compressed for no apparent reason. Does TPCi no longer care about leaving a good impression?
For all of the franchise’s misgivings, I am not one to typically whine and moan about it anymore, as I have continued to enjoy every main series game to date (shortcomings and all), but I fear that the sloppiness of this particular release is setting an awful precedent, especially so as a remake that has had the convenience of most of the creative groundwork already handled for them (and the same criticisms can be extended to the GTA trilogy).
I'm enjoying Shining Pearl at the moment, I think it's a great game..
Ha ha, the haters and the Sony media lose! Thank goodness these great AAA Quality titles are selling like this, when a great game comes out it will sell, REAL GAMERS BUY GREAT GAMES, SORRY HATERS, real gamers know what great games are like pokemon diamond and pearl, Sony can only dream of having great titles like this for the holiday season and I love it! Keep up the great job nintendo.
@Dragonite89 Im not excusing it im just saying why it still sales like crazy. Im not buying these remakes because IMO it not worth it especially if you own the original titles on DS, but to alot of peope as long as the Pokémon formula is there, they will buy it.
@VoidofLight I’m sick and tired of apologist defending a billion dollar Company/ Companies when the said company/ Companies are deliberately screwing with their customers cause they know they can get away with it. Nintendo Switch is much, much more powerful then a 3ds which is able to fit 800+ Pokémon, what is stopping Gamefreak and Pokémon Company from adding 1000+ or even 1500+ Pokemon aside from being cheap, greedy and lazy Company literally nothing. This is one of the biggest franchise in the world and the most profitable franchise in the world, THERE IS LITERALLY NO EXCUSE TO BE CHEAP, LAZY AND GREEDY WHEN YOU HAVE A CAPABLE HARDWARE AND THE BUDGET TO DO SO. This is POKÉMON I repeat THIS IS POKÉMON, THIS IS NOT YOKAI WATCH, THIS IS NOT ZELDA, THIS IS NOT DIGIMON OR ANY OTHER FRANCHISE YOU WANNA COMPARE THIS. IS. POKEMON. P O K E M O N… BEING DELIBERATELY GREEDY AND LAZY SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE FOR THE MOST PROFITABLE FRANCHISE IN THE WORLD WHEN THEY CAN DO SO MUCH MORE…Stop trying to defend a Company/ Companies that constantly screw over with their customers just because they can get away with it. Like literally just Stop. Btw remaster is just port with little to no in improvements aside from graphics like gta trilogy, BDSP, while a remake not only improve the graphics but also add new gameplay, content and changes to story to make them different or better than original like, Pokémon fire red and leaf green, Pokémon Heart gold and Soul silver, Resident evil 2 & 3 remake, learn the difference.
@VoidofLight The games themselves don't even look bad but people just want to cry over anything Gamefreak does. It would be nice to see them improve the series but I'm not going whine any time I don't get what I want or bash them for catering so much to kids.
Imagine having a mental breakdown over Pokemon selling well.
Can't be me...
@illmatic20xx that’s why I made the joke in my first comment that if Gamefreak and Pokémon Company sell trash it will sell well cause it has Pokemon logo it.
@Dragonite89 My point is that I get the frustration of them not reaching your own expectations (whether they're realistic or not is a whole other discussion), but to insult fans who are enjoying themselves just comes off as the kind of petty and bitter that people roll their eyes at.
I think what also makes it ridiculous is that we're getting a game that's looking to actually try some new things in a little over two months from now. It may not give you exactly what you want, but it seems out of line to think TPC and GameFreak are getting complacent.
Not to make it too personal, but it feels like you're too emotionally invested for there to be good faith discourse over all this...
This game is just simply amazing, Its fun, and has good writing ad characters, unlike one pokemon game I know. oh and the art style, Just HMM.
@Dragonite89
You know, i have scheduled to buy Pokemon Brilliant Diamond in February 2022.
See you over there. 🤗
If I have to sum up all of the negative comments for this game on the site, I'd say the negativity is geared towards more on "the things I want like X, Y or Z didn't make it to the game" rather than the game being inherently bad. This applies to SwSh.
I'm already seeing people attacking others for enjoying the game. They could have just said it's not for them and leave it at that. It goes to show how low the Pokemon fanbase has become.
@DTFaux I just want it to be better and for people not to settle and be ok for less, I’m sure people who are currently enjoying BDSP would enjoy it even more if we actually gotten a proper remake with all the features + new mechanics that would make the games not bland and boring after a while, like full Pokémon roster since the Switch is a powerful system and can definitely handle all those Pokémon models, Mega evolution and even dynamax, it’s just disappointing people are willing to put up with a Company that constantly screw with their customers when said comment can do so much more.
@mariopartyfan68
Um... Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5 said hello.
I will start to get first PS5 game in January 2022. 🙂
Wish me luck.
@Dragonite89 You think I'm a bootlicker, or apologist? Really? Really?! You're jumping to conclusions, aren't you? Just because I'm defending them in this aspect must mean I'm an apologist right? Despite the gripes I have with the series, and the most recent games. I agree the recent ones are underwhelming, but that's mostly because the post-game and actual gameplay content isn't there, not because pokemon are missing. Truthfully, the pokemon amount never bothered me, because I never had the money for things like Pokebank. It is laughable that you call anyone without your views a "Apologist" though.
To make it clear, I never said the system's power was the reason the pokemon got cut. Just because the system can handle it, doesn't mean that it's practical. Having over 1,000 species with their own unique movesets and models can be overwhelming, and limit what the developers spend their time on. For example, if they included all the pokemon in one single game, they won't be able to upgrade the models like people want, given the strict timeline that they're forced to work on. Animations would continue to suffer as well.
As for Budget, you really don't seem to get how Franchises work, do you? Gamefreak doesn't have a massive budget, like you keep saying they do, as all the money goes towards the merch and anime. Those two things take higher priority in comparison... but I guess you won't understand that, and will continue to call me a bootlicker for pointing that out as well.
I'm only using Yokai Watch and SMT as comparisons, given that other pokemon fans love using them to bring down gamefreak, not actually realizing that not even those series can keep up a massive roster in one series. What makes pokemon so different in this aspect, other than the fact that they tried to cling onto that aspect for a bit longer than the others?
Remakes actually aren't what you claim either. You should learn the difference actually. The only difference between remakes, ports, and remasters are the following:
Remakes are making the game from the ground up once again, in a new engine, with new assets.
Remasters are just touching up an old game in an old engine.
Ports are just bringing over the game with zero changes.
BDSP falls in the remake category, since it's an actual graphical remake, with quality of life features.
Not all remakes have brand new content in them. Not all remasters have just older content. Xenoblade Definitive Edition is a remaster, but it has an entirely new segment of story.
@Anti-Matter ok enjoy your game not buying it though even though gen 4 is my favorite generation and have owned and played Diamond Pearl and Platinum, I’m thinking about buying Legends Arceus though.
@Dragonite89 You're being childish. It's not about how powerful the system is to fit a thousand Pokemon nor accepting everything Gamefreak releases. It's about how practical is that especially for future Pokemon gens. You think 10,000 pokemon on a single game is practical? Move balancing, animations, etc.? It clearly shows how narrow-minded one can be.
We can comment on the animations and the models and whatnot all we want and fault the company for it. But there were design decisions that are obviously logical even from a consumer's perspective.
To each their own, sure, but you're entering "forcing my opinion on others" territory. Nobody in their right mind would just buy something just because it has a certain branding (except collectors or fanboys, I imagine). You can be a fan of a brand but you can also express disdain on a particular product of said brand.
Sounds like the Japanese audience digs it!
@VoidofLight TLDR…you’re literally the definition of an apologist defending a Billion Dollar Company and most profitable franchise when it’s obvious they’re screwing their customers just because they know they can get away with it. I’ve been a Pokémon fan since 2007 and I’m not afraid to call them out on their BS, I wish people would have higher standards and stop allowing these companies to happily screw them over
I’m honestly relieved I lost interest in Pokemon years ago.
I never really played Pokémon before the Switch. I loved Let’s Go Pikachu and thought Sword was boring, so I didn’t really know what to expect with this one, but man, 8 or so hours in, I’m loving it. I guess lots of people are complaining about it for some reason? Whatever, I think it’s great.
@Dragonite89 At this point you're legit just ignoring the point, and you're refusing to have a reasonable discussion. You can't get it through your head that the situation is more complicated than "GAMEFREAK MAKE TON MONEY, AND THEY MAKE RUSHED GAMES TO SCAM PEOPLE!!!!!". I feel like this discussion is probably best dropped, given how you're unable to actually reason with anyone.
I already told you that just because they're a billion dollar company, does not mean that it goes to the games. That's not how a franchise works. Most of that money, again, goes to the merch and anime. Hardly any actually goes to the game, but you're just going to call me an apologist or bootlicker, and not actually understand this.
I already told you that I have my gripes with the series, and the devs, but you.. really don't listen, do you?
@Dragonite89
Peoples who bought Pokemon BDSP are not apologist or whatever.
They do not need a perspective from Pokemon fan to enjoy the game, especially casual gamers / newbie players.
You don't need to be a Pokemon fan to play Pokemon games.
@Zyph you’re the one being childish with your over exaggeration 10000 really? If you look at the pattern of how Pokémon release their games since generation 5 by the time Gen 9 ends it will probably have 1000 Pokémon models which the current Switch can handle, Nintendo will problably have already released a more powerful successor to the current Switch hardware that is for sure capable of 4k and can even handle 1500 + Pokemon models just enough for Generation 10, Gen 5 remake and Generation 11 of Pokémon.
@Dragonite89 I completely understand, but I also recommend being wary of projecting that desire onto others who many not feel the same way (at least to the point of insulting them).
Like, I'm pretty certain the lack of a National Dex has less to do with console power, and more to do with development times (and everything that goes into it) needing to line up with their other multimedia and merchandising endeavors.
I'm not saying you can't have personal hangups over how the series is being handled, but it doesn't really warrant being the moral crusade you're making it out to be. You gotta take a step back from your emotions sometimes and really think about the hill you're choosing to die on.
@Dragonite89 OMG I'm seriously laughing right now LOL.
Kudos to you bro for missing the point(s). Stay safe.
@VoidofLight no it’s not your reasoning are clouded with idealistic bias while my explanation is a more realistic reason on why they’re cutting corners, it’s a waste to read comment and have discussion with someone not being realistic wearing Rose colored glasses.
@Zyph you don’t have insight of these things, you can save my comment and look back on it years later to see that current Switch will only have gen 8, Gen 4 remaster, and Gen 9 while the successor of Switch, which will be 4k capable, will have gen 10, gen 5 remake, and Gen 11, and that Gamefreak and Pokémon Company are lazy and greedy company
@Dragonite89 You missed their point. The reason why the dex was cut isn't because the switch can't handle it. It was cut because the practicality of having over 1,000 pokemon species in one entry isn't practical at all.
You also say I'm wearing rose tinted glasses, but I'm really not. If I were, I wouldn't be dissatisfied with the series, and wouldn't be drifting away from it. If I were, I would enjoy Sun and Moon, instead of despising it, and thinking that it's torture in the form of a video game. If I were, then I wouldn't see the actual flaws in Sword and Shield outside of the "National Dex" and "bAd GrApHiCs".
You're just showing how closed minded you actually are. Refusing to actually have a civil conversation, because "HOW DARE YOUR OPINION NOT MATCH MY OWN, YOU CORPRATE BOOTLICKER! HOW DARE YOU POINT OUT SOMETHING THAT'S ACTUALLY REASONABLE! EVERYTHING GAMEFREAK MAKES IS CRAP!!!!!!". What you sound like here, by your wording, is that you think your opinion on the matter is the only correct one, and that if anyone dares to challenge it, that they are in fact just a shill, and love gamefreak's stuff no matter what.
@Anti-Matter they are fans who will eat anything even if the company their defending and taking their money is royally screwing them
@VoidofLight so what if it’s 1000 it has been a thing ever since the gba it’s been a thing literally no one is stopping them from adding all the Pokémon even the hardware itself, aside from greediness and laziness, and the current switch will only have Pokémon up to Generation 9 with 1000+ Pokémon potentially by the time gen 10, gen 5 and gen 11 release it will be on new successor of Switch which will be more powerful then the current Switch can for sure handle more Pokémon models, I will repeat again there are literally nothing stopping Gamefreak & Pokemon Company from adding all Pokémon and more content aside from greediness and laziness, you’re the one not listening to others explanation and being a hypocrite, no matter what you say that’s what a full pledge apologist do and say counter anything bad said about a Company even if it’s valid and defend them to no end just cause their life revolves around said franchise and feel personally attack if someone criticized that franchise.
@Dragonite89 I am listening to your arguments, so I'm not being a hypocrite. It's just that your arguments aren't sound at all, and give the impression that you have no understanding of actual game development. No understanding of how companies are generally run, and no understanding of how budgets are allowed.
I'm not countering everything bad that someone says about a game series. I'm countering your points, only because they're made out of blatant miss-info, and because you're berating others for buying these games. I have no issues with people criticizing the company, since I do that as well. Again, I despised Sun and Moon, I don't really like the newer games in the series either. However, I don't get caught up on a dead horse, or call a company lazy, as I actually understand somewhat how development of games generally go, or how the industry itself usually works.
@DTFaux then hire more people? They have the money and resources, they’re not some small indie company from 1995, they’re a Billion Dollar franchise that is most profitable in the world….if they want a yearly and polished release that make everyone happy with no controversy, maybe hire more people, specially more game developers or maybe it’s too expensive for them????? I don’t know.
@Dragonite89
Your avatar is cute with Dragonite picture.
I'm sure you are a fan of Dragonite, but your comment was not cute.
Btw, i recommend you to play some Pokemon games you like rather than wasting your energy to berate peoples who enjoy Pokemon BDSP.
That's not cute.
@Dragonite89 Explain how they can hire more people, when most of the franchise's budget goes to making toys of pokemon and a tv show.
Oh wait.. you'll just say I'm a bootlicker again, and then get mad about gamefreak being the biggest company in the world, with more money than other companies, failing to realize how actual companies are run in the first place.
Let’s calm down a little bit.
@Eel I'm fairly calm, but I'm just tired of a forever looping conversation, with no end. I'm probably just going to drop this, seeing as there's no getting through to them about this.
@VoidofLight how? How do you know these billion dollar Company are not being greedy by cutting content without relying on their PR statement and naively believing it? They have the money and resources to hire more game developers literally what’s stopping them aside from greed…a yearly polished release for a game rich in content is possible if more people work on it, come on let’s be realistic here this is all about saving cost and being greedy because gamefreak knows Pokémon is too big to fail and that they can get away with it since most will just eat it up..
You know, it's not even the national dex issue that bothers me anymore personally.
It's that combined with the steep price for Pokemon Home. Sure it's "just" 15. But that would come on top of the NSO subscription. So you're forced to use the bank at a premium price if you want to transfer them all and you can't even use them all. I think it's ridiculous. If it was still the old price I might've gone for it but as it is, nah. I'm good.
Either way, so long as they continue on this path of several combined flaws like the pokemon home thing, lifeless animations, forced gimmicks, etc, I'll probably refrain from purchasing main pokémon games for a while, much as I still love the series otherwise.
I give up. There's no getting through to this guy, and it's just a never ending cycle of him trying to make his opinion feel valid, before he goes off to berate more people for playing these games, failing to understand how complicated game development truly is.
@Anti-Matter not calling people who enjoy BDSP names, Get your facts straight, I’m just saying Gamefreak and Pokémon Company are cheap and greedy cause most fans will just eat it up I don’t specifically target people who enjoy BDSP but if you’re unintentionally offended by my comment that’s not my problem anymore.
@VoidofLight put a listing on their building and website I’m sure most game developers would be thrilled and honored to work on Pokémon specially the main line games, if these Billion Dollar Company really care and wanna put money and resources on their games they literally can…with all the money, influence and resources that they have. The bottom truth is Gamefreak and Pokémon Company are just being greedy and cheapskates because they know they can get away with it currently
@Dragonite89 I'm with the others at this point you being petty as heck. You mad over a game that's really good and doing well. If it doesn't meet your standards why not just leave it all alone and don't comment on it. find something else that you actually like
@VoidofLight I’m not berating anyone if you’re offended that I’m standing up for what I believe and not submitting to your manipulation of words that is not my problem really.
@liljmoore what I feel is what I feel if you’re offended that I don’t like this game and have negative opinion on it is not my problem.. I’m not just gonna change my mind and agree with someone just because they decided to have an argument with me.
I told someone here that their market research teams know their audience well. Massive numbers!
Well its pokemon I'm surprised people are surprised at this point.
The games will sell well regardless of quality.
"People will buy anything with Pokemon on it"
Meanwhile, none of the Pokemon spin-offs released in the last 20+ years have sold above 5 million, and none of the Pokemon mobile games outside of Pokemon Go are all that big - in fact, some were outright flops that have since been shut down.
Anyways, back on topic:
Legs withstanding, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl have a decent chance at outselling the original Diamond/Pearl worldwide with this kind of launch.
Game Freak died, failed, when bankrupt in
( insert game or Gen here! )
@Dragonite89 It's literally impossible to make everyone happy. One of the curses of being one of the most popular franchises out there is that so many folks want to be armchair CEOs and devs.
Which kinda brings us back full circle...
Yes let people enjoy things, but people are equally entitled to not enjoy things. Obviously it’s great, it’s diamond and Pearl, but forgive me if I don’t want to pay $60 for “Platinum, but worse”, an inferior version of a game I already own.
I only came to this article to see the "how does this carbage sell so much" and I got what I wanted.
My kids bought the game and are loving it. I'll nuzlocke it at some point.
We are those that make these purchases. And guess what. We enjoy the games. I know it hurts to see people enjoying things, but I can assure you that writing that hurt down on internet is definitely helpful. Definitely.
@Dragonite89 Fine be petty. If it makes you happy i guess
But... why? It's the same blooming game. I must be missing something. 🤷♂️
@Dragonite89 Except the game isn't trash, in fact none of the mainline PM games have been trash.
Hope Arceus turns out well, unfortunately the warm diarrhea the pokemon company has been spoon feeding us all for a while now seems to be going down rather well with many. Perhaps we'll get more of the same early next year, which would be a shame.
Removed - unconstructive
@WallyWest Sword was pretty close to trash.
I used to be excited for this remake...but as time went on and I heard more about the game closer to launch...yeah, I'm not going for it. It doesn't even have the national dex like all the past remakes (not including the Let's Go games)...Battle Frontier removed completely, bet the game just has yet another Tower and that's it.
Forced EXP Share...something that should be an OPTION once you beat the E4. I bet the game is even easier than the original, too.
After wasting my money on Sword and the expansions and being disappointed with them, I'm done.
@Dragonite89 If it sells no matter what why don't all the Pokemon games just sell the same amount?
You're talking nonsense.
@SpaceboyScreams No it wasn't it was pretty good if a weak entry in the mainline series.
@Dragonite89,
Love these comment sections, big crying sessions over franchise that's aimed at children, and just because the bigger kids do not get everything they want they moan and suggest the games will not sell well, then said games knock it out of the park sales wise and they insult everybody else who is buying them, under the guise of what's best for the franchise and the fans etc...
Just goes to show how niche these toxic views are, but are great entertainment.
@WallyWest I have about 50 video captures of hilariously embarrassing moments from my time with the game. My animation friends in college could make better cut scenes with their eyes closed. The DLC was atrocious. Everything after the gym in the glowy mushroom town felt rushed and forced. It's literally one of the worst games I've ever forced myself to complete.
@Munchlax,
Totally agree, but for many this will be the first time playing these games.
I got it, I enjoy it. First time I played Pokemon was Red on the gameboy, in my parents house. Never played diamond/pearl, was kinda burned out on pokemon at that time. Now, I'm playing Diamond, in my own place, on a big TV, in my big comfy couch. Life is good sometimes. The Japanese seem to agree.
@SpaceboyScreams I don't really care as end of the day that's your opinion and one i and many others very much don't share. Going by sales and reviews though it is a good game.
@westman98 “In this episode of Adults Crying Over Childrens’ Games….” 😂
Has anyone used the term celebrating mediocrity yet? That always crops up. Needs to go on the bingo card…
@WallyWest People are more than free to like bad things. You should hear half the stuff on my playlist, I'm known for my guilty pleasures, but nobody in their right mind can sit here and try to convince anyone that there aren't dozens of cut corners in Sword and Shield. You can personally overlook them and that's fine, heck I love my girlfriend but boy she's not much to look at. If you want to base your standards of a good product on sales and social media likes, look up "Friday" by Rebecca Black on YouTube. However saying that the public reception for Sw/Sh prove me wrong somehow is a little disingenuous, I'm by no means a black sheep on this.
@KBuckley27 Let people enjoy what they are happy with. I swear you people be getting in your feelings over anything that doesn't satisfied you. Calling people morons for liking something makes you look like a loser.
I wish for a company to release a game that out-pokemons Pokémon, so that GameFreak actually has to try harder to stay relevant.
At the rate this is going, they will just continue to release low effort / safe Pokémon games.
They earn so much money with each entry, why can't they go and invest some more of that to create better games.
The answer is, they don't need to, as enough people buy their stuff anyway
@1ofUs This! I never had the chance to play Gen4, nor willing to pay 150 bucks for it 2nd hand.
So yeah. I am truly enjoying the game. I am not a superfan of Chibi artstyle either, but I can look past it and enjoy the game for what it is.
@SpaceboyScreams Just because you say they're bad games doesn't make them bad games, i say they're good games so if i do what you do then that means they're good games and unlike you i have reviews and sales to back me up.
@WallyWest lol the reviews of BDSP are the worst ever in the series, this does not back you up.
It has a fanscore of 4. This is not good.
@SpaceboyScreams If you can make a better game I'd like to see it
@WiltonRoots,
Already ticked off the Celebrating mediocrity, Sheep/sheeple, and people are o.k to like bad things.
Oh, and people will buy anything with Pokemon on it.
@johnvboy it’s not like they’re giving these for free I’m entitled to criticize it as a customer, and you’re just entitled for crying about someone else opinion for not matching your own, people who accuse others of crying are the ones really crying cause the franchise they like got attacked by mean words, grow up not everyone’s gonna like the same things you do
Glad this game has proven the haters wrong as it’s actually really good and am loving the art style.
@Dr_Lugae Sales does not equal to quality, your opinion is nonsense
@Dragonite89,
No issues with you crying about it, but it's the way some suggest the complaints are objective rather than subjective, that always makes me laugh.
@Dragonite89,
" Sales does not equal to quality, your opinion is nonsense "
Another one crossed of the haters bingo card.
@johnvboy no I’m not crying about it, actually just make a joke how everything that has pokemon logo sells, and people got triggered and cried about my opinion cause it’s mean towards their beloved franchise and that includes you crying about my opinion.
@HenHiro We're talking about S&S not the Gen 4 remakes and i don't care about user scores as its just made up of trolls, upset overgrown neckbeards and those scoring higher then they deserve to combat the troll scores, only about 5% of those scores are legit from users. Also BD/SP have 76% on MC what's still pretty good.
@johnvboy I’ve been playing Pokémon since 2007, and I’m not just a mindless robot who’s gonna turn a blind eye towards Gamefreak and Pokémon company’s screw up, as a fan and customer I want them to be better for everyone not just for me, you’re the one who don’t know what you’re talking about
Removed - flaming/arguing
@johnvboy nah you’re just trolling it’s called constructive criticism and thrown in some humor cause I find it funny how Pokémon have become mediocre and lazy cause they’re aware that most fans will just eat it up, I know what you’re doing and I’m not gonna fall for it, think whatever you want I’m entitled to my own opinion you can just keep crying about people’s different opinion cause you don’t have anything better to do.
@Dragonite89,
Ah, the old constructive criticism line, then suggesting everybody that does not share your subjective views is stupid or a sheep, which to be honest goes a little bit against being actually constructive.
But it's o.k as you have been playing these games since 2007, and must have a much better understanding of these things than anybody else.
Then you resort to calling people trolls because they do not agree or offer you a counter opinion, just so.... what's the word?, oh yes, constructive.
@johnvboy no my main point is Gamefreak and Pokémon Company have become mediocore and lazy cause they are self aware that most fans will just buy anything since they have established themselves unlike before we’re they really have to put effort to make their fans happy. But ever since they became mainstream they know they can just get away with anything
@Dragonite89 2007? I'm guessing you didn't get into the series as an adult so clearly you're still growing and its really showing. Many of us were there from the moment it hit the west and so we're adults now and tend to look at things a bit more objectively then emotionally. You still have that "my opinion is the only right one" thing going so i suggest you drop it as it won't make you popular or liked in life.
@WallyWest I think it’s hypocritical of you to think of me like that aren’t you doing the same? I’m just standing for what I believe base on my own observation of the franchise for the past 15 years, I don’t really care what others think of me so it doesn’t matter if people like me or not for my opinion, I’m not just gonna listen to popular opinion just to have less conflict when I don’t feel like that popular opinion is right.
Did I just create an Account to be part of this conversation?
You bet I did!
I have mixed feelings about the games.
I think they are great for first time players. But for anyone who has already played them on the DS, there is nothing really cool or new here.
I made a little pro and con list for these games:
Pro:
Cons:
Im sure if I think a bit longer, I will find more pros and cons, but clearly for me the cons are overwhelming the pros.
And this is just sad
"grow up not everyone’s gonna like the same things you like"
says someone moaning, complaining and arguing dozens of post about a video game.
@Dragonite89,
Or perhaps the company is still aiming their games at the younger gamers, which make up the majority of the overall fan base, and I still can't see the issue with these remakes, the art style may be subjective, but looks like a perfect fit to me.
And again the "Get away with anything" suggests a correct objective point of view, rather than the very subjective personal complaints you are stating.
@Timppis and You’re crying and moaning cause you don’t like my opinion, cry me a river
@johnvboy I don’t care what you think or how you analyze my comment, my opinion is my opinion, I think these remasters could have been so much more, like a proper remake like Fire Red & Leaf Green, Heartgold & Soulsilver and ORAS but Gamefreak and Pokémon Company deliberately put as little effort as they can cause they know they can get away with it cause most fans will eat it and believe whatever PR lies they cooked up to make themselves good while screwing their customers.
@OldPierre77,
Totally agree.
I get it, I have had every Nintendo console since the NES, so am one of these older gamers who have grown up with the franchise, just do not see the massive issues some have, or how wound up about it they get, surely first world problems at best.
Haters gonna hate.
@WallyWest oh I thought you meant Gen 4. But what I said applies to SWSH as well, 80 was the lowest before BDSP, 76 is not good, it's by far the lowest in the series, Pokémon used to score in the high 80s, that's a huge fall.
There are trolls and there are fanboys, at the end of the day, it generates balance. You can't use this to back up your point, becuase it says the contrary.
I don't think anyone who has played true JRPGs like Dragon Quest XI and knows what the genre is will say SWSH is a genuinely good game.
I don't think it's entirely bad, but overall, it's a slap in the face of fans, GF thinks we are idiots who will pay full price for a game which is 15 years behind it's competition on a technical level, heck, even GTA 3 had better draw distance than SWSH. And they are right, a lot of us ARE idiots, that's what we admit when we buy stuff like SWSH. But the people who defend it are worse, I bought but I critisize the product at least.
@VoidofLight "...it just boils down to TPC's stupid pokemon cycle, where they need the games to prop up the anime and merch, so they don't let the devs have enough time to make those games in the first place. BDSP is evident in that regard, given how half the game isn't even on the cartridge."
You said it yourself. It's unfinished. Isn't that reason enough to not buy it?
@johnvboy did you see the concept art ILCA did? Did you see what this game could've been? That they deliver this instead, is disrespectful (not ILCAs fault, probably GF/ TPC).
I'm not saying BDSP are terrible, but it could've been the best games in the series, but GF, TPC and Nintendo are just too synical.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Dragonite89 thank you, a Pokémon fan with a brain.
It's just sad to see how good other JRPGs like Dragon Quest, Shin Megami Tensei, Persona are, and to see that Pokémon doesn't even come near them, while it easily could. I'm not talking about complexity, I'm talking just about the raw production value, about respecting the fans of the biggest franchise in the world.
And we don't need to talk about how mediocre most games past BW2 (god that game was great) are compared to the classics.
@Dragonite89,
Again very subjective opinions, I too have grown up with the franchise, and as much as I like the older games, I also like the new ones as well.
The Switch for me has provided an amazing source of Pokemon entertainment, you just have to step back and understand they are aiming at the gamers we were, not who we are now.
@HenHiro ,
This old" not respecting the fans" line, who are you actually talking about, you, or some people on internet comment sections and forums?
As the Pokemon fans seem to be buying all these games you hate, and feel are being treated badly, could it not be you are wrong?.
@johnvboy you hust can't deny there are major short comings in all games, that's an objective fact.
If you don't care about quality, it's your thing, but Pokémon is objectively not at the same level as other game franchises.
It's the biggest franchise in the world, Pokémon should be the GTA of JRPG, something so amazing no other company could do.
a Pokémon game is expected to sell well no matter it quality,but is sad to see Gen 4 so mistreated, sadly the franchise went downhill in quality after Gen 5.
@johnvboy so they’re aiming to be mediocore? ok then enjoy your mediocore franchise, if they still messed up Legends Arceus I’m really done, I hope people will wake up too how greedy & lazy this franchise have become just so Gamefreak and Pokémon Company can get their sense together, but that last part is just a wishful thinking on my part
@RainbowGazelle it's not TPC, it's Game Freak.
Game Freak decides when the games come out. They rush their games on purpose because they don't care about quality, we know we're stupid and will buy anything anyway.
Masuda said himself that no one pressures GF. Joe Merrick said that information about GF choosing the release dates, I trust him on that one, because it fits previous information.
@HenHiro,
Totally agree none of the games are perfect on the Switch, but they are far form the train wrecks some are stating on her, and they all just look and play like Pokemon games are supposed to.
@Dragonite89,
Mediocre, your words not mine, they are aimed at the audience that buys the games most, and the art style of all the games reflects this, I personally have no issues with any of the games, beyond minor gripes.
GameFreak will do what sells, because the majority of purchasers of any product buy it for what it does offer/contain, rather than what it doesn't , it's only the core minorities that are obsessive over such matters.
@johnvboy this what bdsp remake could have looked like if they actually care https://youtu.be/UIlopKnC6JU
@johnvboy I personally never said they're terrible, I enjoyed Let's Go okay, SWSH disappointed me, but DLC was great. BDSP is one of biggest disappointments ever in the franchise for me, remakes use the newest game's style, it has always been this way, period.
I'm just saying Pokémon deserves way better, it should be way better, and it deserves heavy criticism for being so synical despite making so much money. You can enjoy the game and still see it has flaws and demand improvement from the companies instead of defending bad products (from an objective technical standpoint).
@westman98 "People will buy anything with Pokemon on it"
And even at my grand age of 48 this is still true lol!
@Dragonite89 the concept art is amazing, my arceus, this is better than the art GF uses to actually promote the games.
I'm still flibberjimbled by how bad SWSH's cover-art are. They look like they're drawn in two days.
@HenHiro,
Perhaps it does, perhaps it does not, it may sell even better with more enhanced visuals, but then again it might not.
So which way would you go?
@Dragonite89,
That looks awful in my opinion, much prefer the look of these remakes, but each to their own.
@HenHiro even the spin off game New Pokémon Snap look tons better than SWSH and BDSP cause Bandai Namco actually put care into making it
@johnvboy then you have a bad taste..or you’re just trolling at this point cause how can that be bad over bdsp? Like anything looks better on Switch except BDSP itself… What in the world?
@Dragonite89,
No different taste, I will teach you the difference between subjective and objective over time.
@johnvboy that's what I'm saying, the sales don't matter in that aspect, it's a matter of respecting the fans of the biggest franchise and delivering the best quality.
That's their job, if the games don't sell more (I personally think they would) it's their problem, they still have to deliver a product that's not 15 years behind the rest of the industry.
@Dragonite89,
See how long it took you to call someone a troll again, for simply not agreeing with you.
Must be you being constructive again.
@johnvboy I understand and respect if someone likes the chibi more, but I don't think it's fair to dismiss people who don't like the chibis, and rightfully expected SWSH's style but slightly better, like every other remake so far. ILCA expected that themselves, as you can see in the concept art.
@johnvboy don’t care, you saying that beautiful fan made trailer looks worse than bdsp, just high key trolling, yep you’re definitely just a contrarian troll, from this point forward I will not take whatever you say seriously…you’re just a troll who enjoys gaslighting people cause you don’t have anything constructive to do.
@HenHiro,
But quality is very very subjective, and the Pokemon franchise is in a tough position, as it knows it's main fan base are younger gamer, who buy the cards and watch the cartoons etc, the quality is there it's just aimed at a different audience than older gamers, that have grown up with the franchise, as the majority of those original gamers have simply moves on.
@HenHiro he’s just a contrarian troll ignore him, I bet he hates Legends Arceus cause he think it looks bad compared to BDSP
@HenHiro,
Not dismissing people, a lot of my comments are very playful in their intent, although the people who do not like these games are often very dismissive of those who do not have issues, so it does work both ways.
But people are allowed to complain, as long as they do not suggest objectivity and belittle those who buy and enjoy these games.
@Dragonite89,
Yes more troll comments from the constructive poster on here, please feel free to put me on ignore, as that's always the best way to deal with people who do not agree with you.
Can't wait for legends to be honest, and the eventual backlash and calls for a sales boycott for that game too.
Feel free not to take me seriously, all your credibility flew out of the window with your very first post.
Removed - offensive remarks
@Dragonite89,
Thought you were ignoring me, or not taking me seriously, considering I am a gas lighting troll, seriously you could just not make someone like yourself up, the irony of it all.
@johnvboy but people who don't like the style are backed up by the fact of as I said, all past remakes have used the newest style.
People who like the style are just accepting an (again, objective) lower production value, it's not justified by anything. You can like it all you want, but you can't tell it's the best the games could've been, so you can't dismiss people's criticism (not talking about you specifically).
@johnvboy I love Pokemon comment sections....always full of rational logic.
@HenHiro,
Not dismissing it, just stating I do not agree with the complaints, which is only natural as I have no issues and like the visuals.
@johnvboy not entirely, SWSH's draw distance and animations, are objectively terrible. No one can deny that, if anyone thinks SWSH has good animations, they're just wrong, they don't know what good animations are.
I don't like that whole "subjectiviness" talk, that's an easy way to escape constructivism and dismiss every argument. There are a lot of aspects of a game that are completely objective.
Most people playing Pokémon are probably not children, as backed up by data from Nintendo themselves which tell us the vast majority of Switch owners are adults. I wouldn't use that as an argument.
@johnvboy I know but I don’t like losing so I’m gonna keep replying till you stop tagging me two can play this game..😏
@HenHiro
You don't have to play the best games (flawless) to feel happy.
Some peoples are content with not so perfect games.
About the art style, I think i really like the Chibi style from Pokemon BDSP.
It looks cute anyway. 😚
@HenHiro,
The vast majority of the 93 million or so Switch owners will be older gamers, but pretty sure the majority of the 19 million or so Pokemon gamers will be younger.
Either way we do not know for sure.
Agree with the technical points, the games could run a little better, as for the art style this is what I was stating as subjective.
@johnvboy @dragonite89
I am getting my popcorn out
@Matrocheck,
I have spat mine out laughing.
@Dragonite89,
You win then, although i feel you have lost more things than you have realized over the years, a sense of humor for one.
Anyway out of here, as much fun as it is I have other stuff to do.
@Matrocheck sorry show is over BDSP sucks, sales don’t mean quality…surprise🎉
@johnvboy ok cool don’t care…
@johnvboy that's unlikely. It's more likely that the majority of the players come from the 70% 20 years+, than from the 10% 14 years-, what I would call "children", since we're talking about criticism, and I think older teens are able to tell these Pokémon games are not as good as other games technically, to some extent.
In anyway, you should not use that argument since there is no proof to that, and data actually tells you it's unlikely. And even if it is, there is no proof kids can't tell these games are not that good, 13 year old me could tell Pokémon Blue didn't look nearly as good as Harry Potter on GBC.
@HenHiro I was just quoting VoidOfLight. For me, the games being rushed and unfinished is enough to not buy them. Simple as that, really.
@RainbowGazelle we need more people like you. I also did not and will not buy BDSP, but I admit I'll probably buy Legends no matter what, I'm just a huge sucker for sandbox Pokémon, so I'm part of the problem.
But Arceus is at least conceptually a revolution, BDSP is lazy conceptually and technically.
@Dragonite89 as a discerning comment reader I am starting to find these lazy, low effort comments boring. Rather than just rehashing the same trash arguments every day maybe put some effort in going forward.
@HenHiro,
We need more people to boycott a remake of an older game with improved visuals, just because a few people on the internet do not like them subjectively.
Not so sure I agree with this, or there will ever be enough converts I feel.
@bluemage1989,
Totally agree.
Or perhaps offer something more constructive, like how they could improve thing going forward, rather than just name calling.
@johnvboy
What is your version of Pokemon ?
I will pick Brilliant Diamond version as i want to get Empoleon from Piplup evolution and Lucario from Riolu.
Is Riolu in both version ?
@Anti-Matter,
Same here, such a sucker for the Diamond version.
@bluemage1989 BDSP sucks low effort and lazy rehash for an easy cash grab, coming from the most profitable franchise in the world this is shameful, if any other gaming company did this there would be tons more back lash regarding such practices.
@Dragonite89 saying you’ve been a fan since 2007 like that means you are an OG to people who have been there since the beginning. Haha.
Maybe consider that the franchise has gone in a direction you don’t agree with and play something else?
@Dragonite89 this comment feels like a low effort lazy rehash of the last dozen you have made. Do better Dragonite.
@Dragonite89
Um... Maybe you can try Yokai Watch or Nexomon or Re:Legend if you don't like with the current release of Pokemon games.
Well, alternative choice of similar games like Pokemon for you. 😏
@itslukec So I’ve been fan since 2007 and I have played it all so I have valid insight on where the franchise is currently at, is it wrong to wish the franchise to be better? That I should just move on if I don’t like that they deliberately and slowly ruin the franchise to appeal to masses?? That’s stupid and pathetic as long time fan I’m entitled to criticize it, it’s not like my getting them for free, I should get what I paid for not this low quality cheap excuse of a rehash..
@bluemage1989 ok your entitled to your opinion and I’m entitled to mine bdsp sucks that’s my opinion, like it or not I don’t care.
I think a lot of people in these comments may have a problem with a society built around profit and mass consumerism or something.
@Anti-Matter I think I’ll wait for Legends arceus, it will definitely be a make or break for me, if they messed it up I’m really done, it will be the final straw, but I still have other games to play such as resident evil & Mario games so it’s not that bad for me if I decide I’ve had it with this franchise plus I’m still gonna play the older games up to Ultra sun & Moon. Again my personal opinion I’m sure some people will be triggered again by this comment.
@Dragonite89 But you did get what you paid for.
The companies produce goods and services, set a price they deem the market will accept, the market purchases the goods and services at that price.
You would have made the choice to buy it, at that price, knowing what it is. You literally got what you paid for.
Clearly this strategy works. It's worked for decades in gaming, hundreds of years for everything else.
Yeah, it sucks. We all know it sucks. Games often cost more to buy than we believe they are valued but....there are billions of people who think otherwise. I think bread is too expensive for what it is but tough that's the market price people are willing to pay for just a load of processed grains.
Again, life sucks, money sucks, consumerism sucks.
But we also ain't gonna change it having a screaming fit on a forum now are we?
@Dragonite89
Laughing at you, not with you.
Big difference.
@Haruki_NLI no ever since the move to Switch I don’t get what I paid for how come a 3ds game which is $40 have more content than a $60 Switch game which is supposed to be on a more powerful system and can fit more content in a cartridge…this is just some BS excuse to get people accustomed to paying more for less…it’s stupid and scummy
@Timppis good for you, I don’t care though just letting you know.
@Dragonite89 It's not an excuse.
It's how the world has worked for decades.
We end up paying more for the same or less. Look at Sony. £70 games that used to be £50. Are they necessarily doing more? No. Half of them are also available for that lower price but sell at the higher price.
Why? Consumerism.
We don't like it, but it's how the world works my friend.
We're very similar. We both inherently disagree with this. However, after studying economics and business for years, working my way through a discount retail store for a few years, and just seeing different markets grow and shrink, I became numb to it.
This is the way the world works. Yep. It sucks. It's scummy. It's exploitative.
Can't do anything about it though. So spend your money you earn from producing goods and services that may or may not be overpriced for what they are, or used to be, on other goods and services you deem worth it to you.
That's all we can do. You can't tell other people what to do with their money. Put needs before wants, beyond that, everyone is on this ride for a different reason.
@Dragonite89 I’m just saying that telling us you have played since 2007 has the opposite effect of the point you are trying to make as most of us have been playing since 1998. Longer than you.
You are allowed to be upset when things don’t turn out how you imagine them. But tantrums over Pokémon? Just go back and play the games you like. I just started a new game in Soulsilver.
Seems like this game is going to sell well just like Sword and Shield. So you are right and everyone else in the world is wrong.
I'm actually quite happy BDSP is doing better than Pokemon Sword & Shield, as there is a lot more heart that's gone into BDSP.
It took me a while to get used all Pokemon not being around, but in the end it made sense. Sword & Shield to me, is a very rushed bland game (Ignoring the exclusion of megas). The game had so many issues and inconsistencies with animations. No voice actors in parts that really needed it and more. I see very little heart put into the game, which I really blame TPC for rushing Game Freak.
When I look at BDSP, I can see heart put into it. Using the chibi artstyle to mimic the feel of the original Pokemon Diamond and pearl games was very clever.
I was a bit disappointed about the exclusion of mega evolutions, especially since some Pokemon NEEDED it. Overall though, it's seems like a really good remake that I can't wait to play.
I'm sure updates will come to add in more content.
@VoidofLight Serious question: why is it ludicrous to expect all Pokemon to be available in some fashion? I understand not putting them all directly in a game, but I've yet to find one reasonable excuse as to why they can't all be coded to be compatible with current gen games and be transferred in via Home.
I've never played Persona, SMT or Yokai Watch, so I can't speak to what extent the creatures in those games are used. I can say that they all aren't nearly as popular as Pokemon, and I'm pretty sure the first two don't have multiplayer ramifications that a gimped Dex means for Pokemon.
Some of y'all should take some copium and move on. Pokémon selling well should not make you this angry lol.
@Dragonite89
Love your profile pic and username
Its just that damn exp share ruining everything
@Dragonite89,
Are you still on here arguing with people?, move on, all this complaining about a kids game can't be good good for you.
@Haruki_NLI On most platforms, the initial asking price is misleading, because it quickly (often within a month of being released) gets a significant, permanent price cut. If you don't need to play it on the day it releases and wait a month, you can usually get two PlayStation or Xbox games for the price you'd have paid for one, and probably about ten PC games. Nintendo also increased their prices, but the difference is that they never, ever lower them.
@nintendoknife,
Nintendo's games just hold their value better, which works both ways, you could for instance buy a Pokemon game, play it, then sell it for pretty much retail.
@Dragonite89 you are entitled to yours even if it is ridiculous. Personally I'm just glad that the pokemon fan base has sent another clear signal to Game Freak about what we want to see more of going forward.
@burninmylight The comparison with SMT doesn't really go far. In Pokémon, collecting every Pokémon is the 'end' goal (obviously not including competitive gameplay afterwards), but in SMT, the only reason you collect demons is to quickly get rid of them by fusing them so you can get more powerful demons, and SMT are single-player standalone games so there's no trading or bringing in demons from older games. You can also only take a handful of demons with you and there's no storage system to store extras: you have to use them, fuse them or lose them. Having all demons available in one game therefore wouldn't change anything.
Considering that reception to these have been mixed I don't know if that is a good or bad thing, but in the end as long as the people playing them are enjoying them and having fun that is all that really matters.
@Dragonite89 No, it won't. It's not that low. They're not going to sell "literal trash".
@Joker1234 Exactly.
@Justaguest I'll be honest, I never had a problem with the Exp. Share, and I don't know why people keep saying it "ruins" everything. Doesn't it make things less tedious?
@mr-duster As dumb as it sounds, part of the fun is to get attached to each pokemon individually. Exp share makes it that I dont need to catch up with anyone which makes me unmotivated to use the whole team. I liked risking my weak Zubat and struggle a little bit to get him evolve and when I did, it was very rewarding. This feeling is gone now and it sucks.
@Justaguest
No, it does not.
Permanent Exp share is a new norm that has been used since Pokemon X and has been adopted by Yokai Watch games on 3DS as well.
It help to level up all six Pokemons simultaneously especially for casual gamers.
I have experienced Permanent Exp Share from Yokai Watch games as well so it was a great feature to make the game less grindy.
@johnvboy *** a very large amount of people.
@Anti-Matter lol you seriously comparing Pokémon to Yokaj Watch?
It's a completely different game, the progression is completely different, and you fight with multiple Youkais at once, so it makes sense there.
@nintendoknife I mean, currently, since I own a digital PS5 (Which I had on order and obviously couldnt change BEFORE Sony announced the new prices) the actual cost of first party PS5 games is....still really high, even on sale. Some are maybe £20 off now....which is £50. Some only get £5 or £10 off in initial sales, if that.
I'd argue it's worse than Nintendo in that regard, because at least on the eShop you know it's going from £50 to £34 in a sale.
@Justaguest I'm already attached to all of my Pokemon with or without the Exp. Share. It shouldn't be much different. Just switch between which Pokemon you want to use next.
@mr-duster The problem lays in it not being an option for those that want to use the same party of Pokes, but don't want to switch any out to not be overleveled and easily sweep the mid to late game ridding of any remote of challenge. Pokemon X/Y and Sun/Moon it was optional. It wasn't until Pokemon Let's Go where the toggle-able option was cut out. It's not asking for much; there was a mod made for BDSP that toggled the EXP Share OFF a day or two after the release.

@bluemage1989 ok but if a better game than BDSP comes out and sells well you gonna say again that fans want it that direction, like the mental gymnastics apologist go through just to justify themselves shilling for this cheap and lazy company…wow👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@Meteoroid No I know my evaluation, they look bad and cheap for a Nintendo Switch game. if any other company did this there would be more backlash and much harsher reviews but since it’s Pokemon they get a free pass from crtitics and apologist.
@Dragonite89 Sales reflect what players want though and quality will part of it. Nobody goes out to buy a bad game.
You only need to look at Sonic to see a game that sold over 10million like Pokemon free fell in sales the moment Sega gave up on quality.
Likewise an actual bad Pokemon spin-off game Pokemon Dash for DS sold like complete garbage. Compared to good ones like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Conquest or Pokemon Snap which sold well.
The idea that the general Pokemon fanbase buys everything with Pokemon on it regardless of quality is blatantly wrong.
@Meteoroid they can like it but, I wish people won’t settle for less it’s just bad.
@Dr_Lugae you gonna tell that too when legends arceus and gen 9 sells well.. and they will definitely look better then this cheap remaster
@Meteoroid because the remakes could have so much more, yeah they’re enjoying the current ones but if we have gotten a proper remake a lot more people would enjoy and I’m sure people who currently enjoy the games will enjoy a proper remake even more.
Nice to see the niche hardcore community outcry did nothing as usual with their arbitrary standards. If anything it gave the game even more exposure that likely contributed to more sales. I can see plenty of people criticizing the game one min and be a day 1 buyer with how fickle people can be
@Dragonite89
You still have energy to complain about Pokemon BDSP.
Keep your salty opinion for yourself.
Peoples will keep buying Pokemon BDSP and they are not apologist since I believe they like the games by naturally.
Say, why don't you go back to old Pokemon Diamond / Pearl NDS version ?
Do you still have the games ?
Play those games and entertain yourself.
We don't need to see a constant complain about Pokemon BDSP here.
That's not cute.
Ever since Pokemon have became mainstream in 2016 thanks to Pokemon go, Pokemon have become even more mediocore and lazy than it already is in 3ds if that’s what most fans want then rejoice the franchise have become cheap and lazy, this is what most fans want now congratulate yourselves diehard fans….👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@Anti-Matter No, I will continue to critize this greedy cheap franchise, it’s so entitled of you to tell me to shut up, like do you provide for me? I don’t care if people buy bdsp since it’s not my money, nor do I care if it sells when, I will keep stating my opinion whether you like it or not
@Meteoroid I would have agreed with you if they are just some small indie company but they literally the most profitable biggest franchise in the world so I have to disagree.
@Meteoroid,
He is a lost cause, these remakes were made as a homage to the original games, and to bring them to a totally new audience, they look nothing like the 3DS versions, some may not like the new art style. but that's very different for stating they are objectively bad.
Love the assumption just because some core fans are upset on the internet, they assume everyone else, and somehow people are settling for less.
Wow look more apologist and shill defending this cheap and lazy franchise what a surprise…😀
@Dragonite89,
More needless name calling because people refuse to join in your childish crying session, but whatever makes you happy, or unhappy as the case may be.
@Dragonite89
You don't need to be a Pokemon fan to play Pokemon games.
I'm not a diehard Pokemon franchise but still have some interest to play Pokemon games on 3DS and Switch casually.
By casually means I play the games in laid back style.
And I am not apologist for purchasing Pokemon Let's Go, Sword and Brilliant Diamond.
I just want to play the games without bothering the complaint from some peoples.
@Meteoroid so spending their money to hire more developer to potentially have better games is foolish, oh man the metal gymnastic to defend this greedy and cheap franchise like what do you earn from defending a Company that screws over their fanbase
@Dragonite89 a better game has come out and is selling better its called BDSP but yes if a different approach of game comes out and it sells better than BDSP I would agree that it is what fans want because sales figures say a lot more than the complaints of a vocal minority.
@Meteoroid,
So now after calling you a blind fanboy, he is now suggesting you must be be getting paid by GameFreak for defending them.
Pure delusion at it's finest and such a shame that a small part of the Pokemon fan base has a reputation for being so toxic, but after displays like this it's no wonder.
@Anti-Matter see that’s what most casuals do defend and be apologist of these greedy franchise cause they don’t know the sentinent of long time fans like me, they don’t understand the lack quality and content that is lacking and how these Companies have stoop low to appeal to casuals like you.
@Meteoroid,
So true, lots of movies I do not personally like make tonnes of money, and some of the Marvel movies are a great examples of this.
But does it make them objectively bad, no of course not, and will it affect me personally if they perform well at the box office, the answer is also no, so why beat myself up over it.
@Dragonite89,
Played the games much longer than you fella, but perhaps the casuals are better judges of these games, as their view is not tainted by the older versions like yours, and sometimes we have our nostalgia glasses on when looking back at older titles.
@Meteoroid no it’s you doing it defending this cheap franchise don’t be a hypocrite, maybe if they hire more competent developers they could produce better looking and better games, take New Pokémon Snap for example which look tons better than SWSH & BDSP because the developer Bandai Namco actually put care into it.
@Meteoroid,
Now you are being labelled a hypocrite, oh if only he could see the sweet irony of his comment.
@johnvboy So if for example say that they
Did actually dish out a proper remake and casual fans love it, will you say the same thing that they have better judgement..if anything casual fans are inconsistent cause they will love just anything Gamefreak and Pokemon Company dish out since they don’t have much stake compare to long time fans and will jut happily & readily eat anything they produce.
I'm pleasantly surprised honestly! I'm not sure why, especially with the lack of a AAA Nintendo IP winter launch, but I just wasn't expecting the remakes to have a bigger launch than SwSh, much less the second largest Switch launch in Japan. Just goes to show how much momentum the Switch is building year over year.
@Dragonite89
Peoples don't have to play games in hardcore style like diehard fans.
Everybody have different interest level.
Everybody have different gameplay style.
Me as casual gamer and started to play Pokemon games from Pokemon X 3DS in year 2013 for the first time without any knowledge about Pokemon games.
I don't have a huge interest to catch all the Pokemons nor even thinking about the complexity of Pokemon games.
I just want to play the games, to feed my curiosity.
As long i can finish the games, that's already more than enough for me.
@Dragonite89,
A little evidence for tour sweeping statement that casual fans will basically buy anything.
@johnvboy if you got a problem with me talk to me directly don’t try to tag someone else while trying to to insult me, I think you have bad judgement for thinking that bdsp look better than full proportion overworld model and relying on casual fans who will eat up anything whether it’s good or bad just because it’s popular to do so.
@Ulysses,
A lot of people were expecting the Switch console sales to fall off a cliff like the Wii, just do not see that happening, as long as Nintendo keep stocks high the holiday period could be massive.
@Anti-Matter yeah but casual fans and diehard fans can have different opinion, so don’t tell me to shut up just cause you disagree with me, as a long time customer I can have different opinion on the games I buy and potentially could buy
@Dragonite89,
I do seem to remember on this very comment section you posted the following.
@HenHiro he’s just a contrarian troll ignore him, I bet he hates Legends Arceus cause he think it looks bad compared to BDSP
So the phrase " Glass houses and stones " comes to mind.
@Primarina i would say no because they have an excuse for the games to look the way they do cause of the DS graphical limitations, the Switch does not have those limitations so no excuse to be that ugly
@Dragonite89
The graphic in Pokemon BDSP looks cute anyway. 😏
I like it more than the NDS version.
Anyway, it's almost 3AM here and I still stay awake from my bedtime to see some funny comments here.
Thanks for humoring me. 😙
@Anti-Matter ok cool good for you for me it’s ugly and can look so much better If developers and owner of the franchise weren’t greedy, cheap and lazy
@Not_Soos IMO, Gen 4 established the modern pokemon formula baseline, with things like online trading and battling, physical/special split based on move rather than type, and the reintroduction and expansion of Gen 2's timed events (which had been removed from Gen 3). If you've played any pokemon game in the past 15 years, all of Gen 4's improvements have been included. So it's a working formula, but won't feel like a new game if you've played anything newer. The remake is very faithful to the original game, and if you've already played on DS this will feel like a graphics update with restored online functions, but little more. Bottom line: Good game, but not for everyone. Great for kids getting into the series. Not good for those looking for a new pokemon game who already played a Gen 4 game, or those looking for a different feeling pokemon game who played any pokemon main-series title after gen 4.
@Primarina that maybe true in some cases but to deliberately make it ugly to save time and money is just stupid
@johnvboy ok whatever
@Porky I never saw challenge as the problem. None of my Pokemon were "over-leveled" anyway.

Dragonite, fueling a full year's worth of NintendoLife user engagement with flame wars. Too bad one of my favorite Pokemon is being given a bad name.
@Anti-Matter Good luck. I hope you have fun.
If Prince were alive today, he would do a remake of his famous hit song "Diamonds and Pearls", changing the lyrics so that they talked about Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The chorus would be "Let's play some Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.... a brilliant game for both girls and for boys.... if I could I would make it my world.... but all I can do is just offer you my gameplay".
@VoidofLight I want switch Yokai Watch to come to the west so bad 😞
@Dragonite89 I haven't bought BDSP, nor did I buy SwSh... But you sir, are being utterly whacked.
You don't read. You ignore the point. You continuously argue in bad faith. You continue to use ad hominem attacks.... And more.
Literally what is wrong with you?
You're spitting fire literally fir not outright agreeing with you and basically telling you "you don't speak for me". You're acting in an utterly childish manner and giving disproportionate responses to people's criticisms of you.
My advice? Grow up.
@SwissCheese The answer is the money is reinvested into other parts if the franchise. GF only gets a fraction of what the games see in sales.
@MegaVel91 and who are you to tell me that, you don’t feed me nor provide for me so don’t tell me what to do, I stand by my opinion and if you don’t like it and are super pissy about it then it’s not my problem, I don’t care what you say or what you think, I’m not gonna change for you
@Ulysses that’s unfortunate, I don’t care what you think though.
@Dragonite89 Yea, you don't care. You don't care enough to actually make decent points. You don't care enough to not use ad hominem, and so many other problems.
Super pissy? You're projecting. You're so repetitive and off kilter that it would be funny if you weren't so repetitive and boring.
You're like a mad dog, barking at people and thinking you're hot stuff. It's pathetic.
Removed - inappropriate language
@bluemage1989 you can’t say BDSP is a better game base on sales it hasn’t even surpassed the original games, nor SWSH yet. I think you’re over exaggerating and being disingenuous, any other mainline Pokémon games are better than BDSP
@Dragonite89 Projecting yet again. I don't even need to one up you. You make it easy.
Also getting called super pissy by you is hilarious. Cause its truth only exist in your wild fantasies.
Removed - inappropriate language
@Dragonite89 I'm not saying it's a better game based on sales figures I'm saying it's a better game in general and much better than anything that could be conceived by some of the franchise's 'fans'.
@bluemage1989 I disagree with your opinion, in my opinion if they actually put more care, budget & time, like hiring more developers and giving it more development time, the remakes could have been so, so much better.
@Dragonite89 I didn't think you would agree hahaha
@Dragonite89 LolNo. I'm not even taking you seriously at this point. You're being such a try hard and continuously claiming I'm doing the things you are, and it's pathetic. Also the third time you've claimed I'm super pissy. Sounds like you're to convince yourself more than anyone else. XD
I truly pity you. Keep dreaming man.
Removed - disrespecting others
@MegaVel91
They don't do that. They license everything out so they seldom invest in anything but the development of new games
Adding this comment section to my collection.
@Zyph You're so wrong its hilarious, they neither updated the models, nor did they do jackshit for """balancing""" cue the box art legendaries being power crept OP asf.
If youre going to defend the highest grossing media of franchise of all time do it right. And i dont even care about the national dex
