Update (9th September):
Saber Interactive has now confirmed 2nd November as the global release date for World War Z on Switch, fleshing out the bare-bones details from the previous eShop store listing. It'll cost $39.99USD and regional equivalents on the eShop and at retail, and a 'Deluxe Edition' at $49.99USD will have various packs thrown in.
A new Switch trailer gives us some optimism for how this'll shape up, though the proof will come when players get their hands on the game.
The PR blurb below shows that it's a relatively fully-featured version arriving on the system, but there's no mention of the upcoming 'Aftermath' add-on at this stage, so clearly that hasn't been included in the porting process so far.
- Story-Driven Co-op Campaign: Outlive the dead through intense four-player co-op campaign episodes around the world set in New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and Tokyo.
- Battle the Terrifying Zombie Swarm: Face hundreds of zombies at a time, brought to life in gruesome detail with incredible firefights featuring explosive firepower and action.
- Get Stronger & Never Surrender: Choose from seven distinct character classes, unlock powerful weapon upgrades, and take on even greater battles in Challenge mode.
- Intense Competitive Multiplayer: Fight real players and the undead in team-based Players vs. Players vs. Zombies (PvPvZ) multiplayer game modes.
- World War Z - Deluxe Edition: This digital version features bonus content including the Lobo Weapon Pack, Biohazard Weapon Pack, Military Weapon Pack, Last Aid Weapon Pack, Signature Weapon Pack, War Heroes Character Skin Pack, and the Professionals Character Skin Pack.
Original Article:
Saber Interactive has established itself as one of the leading Switch port specialists, with recent acquisitions potentially boosting those credentials further. One project that's been a bit of a mystery since its low-key announcement in Spring 2020 has been World War Z, an ambitious idea simply due to the sheer number of zombies it generates at any given time as you attempt to mow them down. The multi-platform video above gives a good taste of what it's all about.
Saber Interactive is yet (at the time of writing) to give an update, but eagle-eyed eShop fans have been in touch to highlight that it now has a listing in the European and Australian versions of the store. It's planned for release on 2nd November with a price of £35.99 in the UK store; its file size is listed as 6.6GB. There's no equivalent store page on the North American eShop at this stage.
There's still time for final optimisation of course, and we're intrigued to see how this one shapes up on Switch. As for whether it's a game worth getting excited about, our chums at Push Square rather enjoyed the co-op and multiplayer aspects when it originally launched on PS4, though the campaign fell short in their view.
We'll keep an eye out for more official news on this release; is it one for your wishlist?

If it's gonna get the new Aftermath content then I'll think about it. Really had fun with the PC version with friends so curious to see how this runs portably. I hope B4B gets the Switch fix as well.
Looks like it might be quite fun, but I would like to see a video of it running on the switch, as I imagine it may struggle with this game.
I'm very intrigued about this. The switch has 4gb ram (correct me if I'm wrong) so to see how this holds up with the amount of enemies on screen is very intriguing.
@Zyph The eShop listing doesn't clarify in terms of what content is included, but once we know I'll update the article.
I'm not expecting great things from this port especially seeing the file size is on 6.6GB
@dew12333 Think they've earned the benefit of the doubt by now Nobody else thought Witcher 3 was possible
Really fun game to play with friends!
It can't be worse than the movie at least.
@UltimateOtaku91 the game is around 25gb PS4 if I'm not mistaken, so I expect they removed some stuff on Switch and compressed others.
@ThomasBW84 Awesome
@Rayquaza2510 yeah most likely, though it's highly likely there will be a sizeable day one patch that doubles the file size
I already have this on Game Pass and Epic Store, but hopefully Switch version have cross-play.
The current version have PC, Xbox and PS in same games.
I completed all co-op missions online.
@dew12333 I agree! We should be something soon. If not this might be a similar release as the Call of Duty where on the Wii.
@JHDK yeah, it should be better than the movie.
never played this but sounds like a good time tbh
Hopefully, it will look decent since Witcher 3 port came out quite well.
Saber Interactive. 'Nuff said. Interested.
Got this on the PS4 on a deep sale but only got to play a while before deleting it to make space for other games. I think it can run well especially since Saber is doing it (and its their own game this time) seeing what they've done with the Crysis and Witcher ports. Nothing like this on the Switch really but now with this and Dying Light we will have 2 really good zombie shooters that should scratch that B4B itch.
❗At £35.99p, I'll wait for the 💾physical version 😊
@UltimateOtaku91 probably there will have to be. And then maybe file size would be around 14 to 15GB
I am cautious and looking forward but I want to see reviews and digital foundry take on this.
Also it remains to be seen how dying light turns out on Switch
@path4smash yeah I am pretty cautious of dying light and am also looking forward to it.
But for now if you want some zombie killing action, as much as I hate to admit probably go for RE6 and play the mercenaries mode
@PushMyGran1986 Well my first computer had only 8MB RAM so it should be all good 😂
@Scrubicius That's the one thing that really surprises me about the Switch.. No Call of Duty games.
Too bad! I will be playing shin megami tensei V by then.
@anoyonmus don't forget zombie army trilogy. Been on my watchlist for a while now but havnt taken the plunge just yet
@JustMonika true my first computer had a pentium 2 so I shouldn't complain lol
@Rpg-lover that too
@JustMonika very obvious. The COD games take up an insane amount of space. Heck I don’t think it can even fit on a 64GB cartridges.
So yeah, I don’t think COD could come to Switch
The game is excellent don’t listen to what this article says. Co-op, multiplayer and campaign are all great period. I’m guessing the guys at push square couldn’t handle the campaign.
@Dirty0814 pushsquare grades things differently than NintendoLife.
For example, I believe the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for Switch scored a 9/10 on NintendoLife but Pushsquare reviewed it a 8/10
@Zyph it probably will but maybe later. They are working on the PS4 and Xbox One versions of WWZ Aftermath.
But I believe Aftermath will come eventually
@Rayquaza2510 they probably also cut down the amount of zombies on the screen
I've seen the new trailer and it looks impressive, but the post-processing seems to be missing there, similar to Doom Eternal. I guess I'll just wait for hands-on.
This is the closest thing to Back 4 Blood on Switch, so please support it!
@Ventilator https://www.gamesradar.com/world-war-z-switch-release-date-confirmed-for-november/
According to this, no crossplay. It makes sense though. Switch will be at a huge disadvantage as that version will be 30 fps
Looking at the switch trailer this is what I call a Playstation game, as in, the cut scenes look good but the gameplays looks to be lacking.
Just to confirm no split screen co op on this is there?
@ItsJustAnotherGamer Yeah. In co-op missions you get 3 AI team mates instead.
AI works fine in it, but no online is a drawback.
Should have had optional cross-play co-op.
@anoyonmus Looks like Switch version may not have online at all.
Basically it's a single player game with 3 AI teammates.
❗I'll wait for the 💾Physical version 😊
@ItsJustAnotherGamer yeah it does.
This actually looks really good.
@LeighDapa there is a physical edition.
I'm just gonna get Aftermath on PC, but I'm curious how this will perform!
Great! Have been looking forward to this.
Though I could make a better trailer for Nintendo Switch. It's like they didn't put any effort to make it stand out.
I think I'll need a Switch specific review for this. It looks promising.
If it has online maybe, if it doesn’t maybe not.
@Ventilator it says multiplayer but it might not necessarily be online
@Rpg-lover You can get it after finishing SMT V XD
Going to need more dead (ops) live body player to enjoy this game but if it comes Physical I will collect it if only.
@the_beaver that will be a maybe! If I have enough interest to play it.
@anoyonmus Okay then. It were weird if it didn't. Smeone here said it didn't have mp, but were wrong then.
@jcboyer515 Yeah. And besides. Goldeneye style 4 player FPS PvP is not a thing anymore.
"Co-Op is online only" is one of the worst gaming trends of the past decade.
For everyone else I hope it has online, personally I hope it's smooth and fun in single player.
@jcboyer515 I'm not debating what cannot be an opinion, I just see people asking for it, and personally am not interested in it, just in good single player campaign. I also assume people mean PVE co-op. I used to play a ton of splitscreen co-op, but never really got the appeal of PVP online. Too frustrating and competitive for me, but that's a me problem, and not even that. Maybe, arguably, the world would be a nicer place with less hostility, if we had less frustration and competition and more thinking and co-operation without coercion and manipulation, but that's an actual debate I'm not going to actually start here.
Lol can't imagine how it's gonna run....actually I can.
@Rayquaza2510 almost all file sizes are loads smaller on switch.
Is there any cross play on world war z for Nintendo switch?
