Reminder [Wed 10th Nov, 2021 02:30 GMT]: This same spirit has been made available to all players via the Smash Bros. Ultimate spirit board and shop. It was previously exclusive to owners of Monster Hunter Stores 2: Wings of Ruin, who had a save file for this particular game on their Switch (via Nintendo Everything).

Original article [Wed 30th Jun, 2021 04:25 BST]: Nintendo has announced a special spirit cross-promotion for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, and it's probably not going to be the last.

If you happen to play Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and have a save file of the game on your Nintendo Switch, you'll be able to unlock a special spirit in Smash - the Razewing Rathalos and the game's hero.

While save progress from the Monster Hunter Stories 2 demo will carry across to the full version of the game, it seems this same file currently does not unlock the above spirit in Smash Ultimate. If we hear anything else, we'll update this post.

If you don't intend on picking the new Monster Hunter Stories game up, there's no need to worry - as in the past, Nintendo normally makes spirits like this available at a later date. We last saw something similar to this back in March with Persona 5 Strikers or Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection.

In related news, Kazuya's arrival in Smash Bros. includes the addition of brand new Tekken-themed spirits. You can see what's been included over on the patch notes page.

What do you think of this Monster Hunter cross-promo? Will you be picking up MHS2 on release? Tell us down below.
