Super Bomberman R may well have been one of the Switch's launch titles, releasing over a year and a half ago, but that hasn't stopped Konami from showering it with updates and support ever since. Now, the game has received yet another update and there's a whole lot of stuff to explore.
First up is a brand new Castlevania-themed stage. Of course, the hype surrounding Castlevania is pretty high right now thanks to the franchise seeing some major support in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and you can see this stage in action in the video above (if you can make it past the almost excruciating happiness present throughout, that is).

There are also five brand new characters being added to the game's generous roster. We (fittingly) have Alucard from Castlevania, Caesar from Star Soldier, Upa from Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, and the two hosts of this very update – Mimi and Nyami from Pop’n Music. A new game mode, called Civilians, will also task you with guiding the cute little Balloms to your team’s base to score, while simultaneously trying to prevent your opponents from doing the same thing.
All of this content comes as part of the game's version 2.2 update - available to download right now. Make sure your game is up to date and you should find everything waiting there for you to try.
Do you still play some Super Bomberman R on Switch? Are you happy to see it receiving so much support? Let us know with a comment.

Has this game improved much since release?
And to think I still haven't started playing the game, and I bought it on system launch!
My Switch backlog truly haunts me.
Well, it remained an expensive game even second hand, and in the meantime has appeared on Xbox One too, which being a disk-based game will surely drop its price eventually.
Cool beans. Hopefully the updates don't stop there.
@Sinton Yes, it has. I still liked it at launch, but similarly to Splatoon and ARMS, the updates made a huge difference.
I still plan on buying it someday, but I have too many games to play right now.
@Sinton @StephenYap3
I agree Konami has been extremely generous with their free content updates, and many of the new characters and modes are pretty cool. However, the core experience hasn’t been tweaked much, which is disappointing. The controls feel looser compared to other Bomberman games; the AI can be subpar; and items in the shop are ridiculously expensive.
It’s still Bomberman, but it feels like a step back from Bomberman Blast on the Wii way back when.
How about a Castlevania Collection, hmmmm, Konami?
Good underrated game
@Solomon_Rambling "controls feel looser" is an understatement imo. Yes, always happy with any post-release support, but gameplay as you rightly highlight remains underwhelming and lite.
more childish marketing please, not enough
At least it's comforting to know that Konami too is still aware that Castlevenia exists.
Does this have an online mode and is it active?
@sid77 The game does have online but its pretty barren a lot of the time.
Fine! I'll buy it already. Sheeeesh.
The price is a barrier to buying it. Not the content.
So pleased got this on the last major update. Argos have had it for £26 for ages. Worth it.
It's fun, but controls are a bit loose.
Still, a great party game, and one of the few great 8-player games in existence!
Man, I have to play more of this game. It's so under appreciated. But on a different note, Konami...PUT YOUR IP ON SWITCH DAGNABBIT!
1. Castlevania Netflix series
2. Simon and Richter in Smash Bros
3. Castlevania content in Super Bomberman R
4. The leaked Requiem Collection with Rondo and Symphony
CASTLEVANIA IS BEING RESSURECTED
LET'S HOPE IT DOESN'T CRUMBLE AGAIN
This game is much improved from how it was on launch, with all the free DLC and patches. The grind for unlocking stages/outfits is still obnoxious, though. It's too bad the online scene is a ghost town, too. Cross-play with other consoles would greatly benefit this game, along with a cheaper retail price.
@Solomon_Rambling Agreed that the shop items get expensive, but I don't usually find myself buying everything on there.
Even though R isn't my favorite in the series, I still find it good.
@BlueBlur101
i see what you did there
@aznable Yeaaahh you did. But enogh talk! Have at you!
All this support... I don't want to like this game and they're making me like this game.
@zool I know. I have wanted to grab this for a while, but the price is so steep.
