It's been a rocky start for Super Nintendo World. We can't deny that it looks spectacular and we'd previously seen some (now removed) footage of Yoshi's Adventure Ride, but Covid-19's left the Japanese theme park's opening indefinitely delayed.
Now the embargo has lifted, we've gotten a further look at Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, an Augmented Reality experience that took six years to develop. Presented by Gio at Independent Guides, this video (above) offers an in-depth analysis of the footage we shared earlier in the month from Universal Park News Today.
Starting with a tour of Bowser's Castle and pre-show rooms, it gives a clear outline of how Koopa's Challenge works. Admittedly, this is hard to fully gauge without using an AR visor directly, but the analysis includes AR footage too.
Presented along a set path, visitors can expect familiar track archetypes, including a haunted mansion and "underwater" areas. Naturally, no Mario Kart experience is complete without Rainbow Road, and we're pleased to say that's also present.
It's a great insight into this upcoming ride, and we're looking forward to trying it out ourselves, once the pandemic subsides. If you can't wait to visit, there's always a Minecraft version in the meantime.
Looking forward to trying out Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge? Tell us all in the comments.

and this is why I'm sad I don't know how or live in japan, I really should take the time to learn.
This is not only a great looking Mario Ride, this is one of the best looking and ACCURATE theme park designs I've seen.
They put the money in to make everything look and move the right way, it's a small section of the park but it's PERFECT, which is insane to think about.
Looks cool but I can't handle queues and/or other people's f*cking kids. I wish they offered days where you could pay four times as much to share the park with a quarter the people.
How are they planning to have an Olympics if they can't open a theme park?
Ride looks a bit disappointing.
The ride looks incredibly boring. I don't even know if I would call it an amusement park ride. Isn't Mario Kart supposed to be fast? Just looks boring.
I thought it was going to be like VR Mario Kart Arcade GP. Surprised it's not.
@matdub I still don't know where kids come from 😉
@Snatcher you do realize universe hollywood in california is going to have that ride too.
@RiasGremory ya but one you have to wait, and two I still would need to fly bc I live no were near those places.
@WoomyNNYes I hope that at Universal Studios, they have a Mario Kart Arcade GP DX VR place along with Nintendo Arcade games.
so excited for this to come to florida!!
@matdub the olympics (if they happen) will be athletes only and no fans or extra media. Sad
Was going to be in Osaka this June.... Thanks Wuhan.....
I’ll admit I share the same concerns as the mate in the video. I’m a bit underwhelmed with no thrill aspect and there is a LOT going on in that AR. I’m actually less excited to go there now than I was before...
Originally I was expecting a Mario Kart roller coaster. Especially with the crazy tracks of Mario kart 8, I think this would have worked out great. But as it is, this ride still looks pretty awesome and I sometimes forget that Nintendo is a company for all ages and not simply those that would be able to ride a roller coaster. The height requirements are unfortunate in that regard...
I've been in the park as part of a pre-opening event. The park itself looks really nice, somehow the materials/paint make it look like the actual games.
The Mario kart ride waiting area is also very nice looking. Maybe even better than the Harry Potter area.
The ride itself is a bit of let down though. It's definitely not a thrill ride. The AR is reasonably well done I'd say but it feels more like a rather average game than a theme park ride. I think it's definitely aimed more at younger kids.
The Yoshi ride is complete rubbish by the way. Not even little kids would enjoy that. Just a very slow and boring 3 minute train ride through three very uninspiring areas.
I get the feeling they really want people the buy the (expensive) wrist bands so you can so all the AR stuff inside the Mario area.
TL;DR area looks great, rides area meh. Hopefully the donkey Kong area will be better.
I expected a Cars type of ride
@WoomyNNYes Ask your mum and dad for a demonstration ðŸ˜
@skycargav2000 Its a shame. It seems a bit more feasible than the "no clapping or cheering" thing.
