Me and my brother used to fight over when it was our turn to put our docks on the TV but now we're big brain enough to know to keep one doc hooked up 24/7 and switch our switches when it's our turn

The only way I'd justify more than one system per household is if there was a way to share games (even downloaded ones). Having to pay for the same game multiple times (primarily multiplayer titles) is a displeasing prospect.

I would buy another Switch, but they make so difficult to share digital content, I am holding back. (More fool me for going all digital this gen)

I have 4 Switch consoles in my house, that will increase to six with the revision. The two oldest consoles will be for my two youngest kids, lol.

In other words, I fit into the category of owning multiple Switch consoles.

I've got one regular and one Lite, so they're not wrong. I've owned a lot of game systems, but this is the first one I've owned two of.

I have 3 3DS but only 1 Switch. If they do a Zelda themed Switch at some point I may bite.

One switch in this household and two docks. My sister has two for her her household though.

The extra dock is a godsend. I didn't know privilege would feel so good.

Wow, I guess that gamble paid off. Honestly though it's why my family stopped playing Animal Crossing NH. Seemed designed specifically to make it very unfun to play with multiple people on the same Switch. I guess for a lot of people that encouraged them to spend another $300 instead of leave off.

I'm willing to bet that because new horizons made the stupid decision of only one island per console impacted this by at least a little bit

Oof. Nintendo really needs to make it easier for families to have more than one console. Parents in tears are commonly joining the NL forum because they can't figure out how set up 2 or more consoles, and NSO accounts for their kids.

@Poodlestargenerica keep in mind the sales strength of the Wii is that people who would never buy a console wanted Wii Sports - my grandma got a Wii for Sports and Fit, and the only video game she’s ever had otherwise is OG Game Boy with Tetris

They should just make digital titles cheaper from the get go since they currently can’t be loaned or resold. But they probably won’t offer refunds to those that already paid full price.

They could do some sort of ‘check out system’. Just as if if I loaned an NES cart to a friend, I can’t play when it is ‘loaned’ to someone else.

Maybe have an extra one time fee to get Mario Kart or Animal Crossing to play simultaneously for multiple people on your family plan (but way less than the price of the game). Kind of like a Windows license being allowed to install on a few individual PCs.

Unless sales drop off a cliff, it's inevitable Switch will overtake Wii,probably by the end of this year. I'd say 130 million lifetime sales is realistic.

Ya I have 2 switch consoles and 1 switch light. Sadly I need to replace the fan in one of the main consoles due to loud grinding sound.

I have two switches. I have three children so I've considered getting another. What stops me is Nintendo's method of game sharing for downloads. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, or maybe you guys are okay with just swapping physical carts all the time. But I thought I'd ask if I'm missing something.

My setup is the children's primary Switch is my account's primary Switch. This allows all profiles on the children's Switch to play all of my download games. All my children are too young to have a Nintendo Switch account and they don't have money either so it wouldn't make sense from that standpoint.

My 2nd Switch is essentially my personal Switch which I occasionally let them use for multiplayer like Mario Kart Live. This Switch connects online before loading any digital game. Minor inconvenience since I'm not traveling with it. But the bigger issue is that only my profile can play my digital games with this. Other profiles are blocked.

Is there a way for all profiles to access the digital games on multiple Switches? Something with Nintendo Online setup?

My son and I have had our own Switches since launch. Things could’ve gotten ugly if we had to share a Switch to play BOTW, 😂.

We've considered getting a second switch, but as we've got other games and consoles it doesn't feel necessary. If a Switch Pro with worthwhile additions was to be released, we'd become a 2-switch home.

I have the OG model and my son has a grey, and my daughter has the turquoise lite. I'm currently saving money for when the revision / pro is released so I can buy that day 1 and hand my OG down to my youngest daughter or I will mod it

They still can not even come close to meeting the demand for the switch. Quick discontinue it and put out something new.

I believe it definitely will beat the Wii's lifetime sales. The switch beautifully compliments modern life.

if they are trying to sell us multiple switches per house could they not try to make sure most games include local wireless play to support homes which only have switch lites.

@cleveland124 I think that is the best you can do at the moment. A third Switch will have the same limitations as not being the primary Switch.

As a 2 Switch household, they might want to make managing digital games across 2 devices a little easier for a start.

I consider myself fairly intelligent but getting my head around the whole primary console thing and the best way to set everything up with the least amount of issues was a major undertaking. I think I got the clearest answer from a forum comment!

@CEObrainz For physical games you can take the card out and put it in your other switch and for digital as long as you use the same nintendo account you can redownload all your games onto your new one. Thats how I got some games for free from my friends

I share my switch with my two brothers, as well as my wii u. if I had the money I'd probably buy a series S because sure the switch is better but do I really need 2?

@cleveland124 I set up my account on my daughter's Switch and downloaded BotW as that's the game my kids love to play most. My son plays on my Switch and my wife has 2 Switch consoles. Our twins aren't old enough to have a console yet, so I don't really consider them in the equation very much. Sounds like I do basically what you do. As far as I know, there is no other way to do it.

@BloodNinja They're on a different node (16nm, I think), using a different fabrication process and from a different vendor (AMD for ps5 & XSX|S, Nvidia for switch).

So as long as the fab slots them in, they're good on chips Also, last year when they had shortages they revamped their supply chain, so that shouldn't happen again, barring something crazy.

@CEObrainz Effing THIS. Right here. Give us family options. I’ve considered getting all 3 of my kids switch lites, but there was simply no way I was going to buy every multiplayer title 3 times to do so. Let alone 1st party titles that they’d all want to play like BoTW.

I will soon have three Switches. Launch Switch, Switch Lite and the Mario Switch next week.

They need to rigorously update their digital game sharing. I should, at a minimum, be able to easily share digital content with anyone in my household on any Switch using any profile. Tie it to the Switch Online account if necessary.

I have one Switch, because its all I can afford. 2 of the same handhelds in a household are one thing. Two triple dollar hybrids? Nuh uh.

With the Switch being on 80 million sold and the Wii being on like 101, outselling Wii is not a hard milestone, (itll do so by January 2022) and the PS4 by Jan 2023 latest

I am still on my launch day Switch, but I will definitely get a Zelda themed one...if such a thing is announced this year. Me and the wife share the Switch and she is getting more into it, so it'll be perfect for a 2nd addition.

We have just the one in my house, but a few friends own multiple consoles.

The Switch sells and it's not because of GPU horsepower but it's hybrid and games for all genre age groups. Unlike what some would say it's graphics what sells-that's not what a console is just there for. We do have to remember in 1985 era it was Nintendo NES that re-started the gaming console lifespan. People still don't remember or want to credit Nintendo NES for doing that.

You cannot use 1physical game cart to play a multiplayer game on 2 switches at the same time. Likewise, you are of course not allow to do the same with a digital game.

You can on the primary console. Not on the secondary. To play them on any other console, you have to be logged in as the person who purchased the games.

I already stated in a follow up that I didn’t mean simultaneously.

@jamesthemagi I didn't plan on buying 2 Animal Crossing systems. The first one I pre ordered before release. The second one I picked up a few months ago during a restock. I was hesitant and thought about it for a while but decided to purchase it before they sold out again.

I want the Mario one but I haven't been able to secure a pre order so I probably won't get it. I also like the Monster Hunter edition but I don't think it will be sold here in the states. So no I most likely won't get either of those...

At no point did I say I wanted to play multiple copies of digital games at the same time. Just that I want to access them seamlessly on many systems as I could with a physical disc. The issue is only my profile can play on other systems. With a physical disc, any profile can play. It makes it difficult for other users to have their own save file. If Nintendo wants to run a check to see if the game is playing then fine. But their restrictions discourage me from purchasing more systems.

I currently have 1 switch and 3 smashed switch lites. I think there might also be a regular broken switch lying around here somewhere.

@jamesthemagi I think digital prices could be a little cheaper since you are forgoing the right to sell the game used or loan it to someone.

At least digital prices on AAA games should get reduced over time. There is no reason that the Link’s Awakening remake should still be $60 on the eShop.

They should be cheaper because there is no 3rd party involved, no cartridge, no case, no plastic wrap, manuals don't really exist anymore but that too. However, stores would drop games if they are cheaper on digital storefronts
That's Nintendo for you, they barely ever reduce their games. I disagree with you anyway. Games Don't lose value over time. If sales slow down because most people interested already have it or others are hesitant at the price, I think a sale is the right call until Nintendo decides to do a permanent price decrease with a Selects line. Probably when a backward compatible Switch 2 comes out with sequels for those titles.
I do think a whole bunch of Wii U ports that barely had any work done to be moved to Switch should not have been released at full retail pricing

4 Switches in our home. My day one Switch, the Christmas 2018 Switch, Christmas 2019 Switch, and then decided to also grab the Animal Crossing Switch this year and let my son use my day one console. So aside from my wife, we all have Switch consoles.

Our household has two phat Switches and five Lites, lol.

Can confirm. I have 4. Hate the game sharing aspect of digital games. Switched back to carts.

Switch will roar past Wii sales. A Pro console, a port of GTA V and a new Nintendogs game will simply be the icing on top of the 100m units cake.

Only one, but will definitely buy a Pro or 2 or whatever it will be called. At least one more. Neither PS5 or Xbox have shown gyro motion controls in FPS games and the best pinball games are still on Switch, so it's gonna be a very long relationship.

@BTB20 I don’t think a discount would get it to ps2 levels. Ps2 was right time right place. It was a game console that doubled as the most practical DVD player, so it was selling in two markets. Switch would have to pull off something historic to beat that

why do so many people on here think a pro model wouldn't sell yet at the same time so many people on here are proudly professing to be multi switch households. Whats one more switch to add to your collection?

Nintendo, it's simple. Allow game sharing on accounts within the same nintendo online family plan. To mitigate piracy just ensure all accounts on the family plan share billing info. It wouldn't be hard to restrict it so that you cant play the same game on two switches without owning the game on multiple accounts.

I think sales would really take off if they simplified the game sharing like this. It's a nightmare right now and makes me (whose given up basically all physical media) want to go back to cartridges. Man it sucks right now! "Which account so I use to play this game dad!".

I'll get another Switch for my household when Nintendo gives me a reason to upgrade.

You can buy it 2nd hand as your way of showing Nintendo your middle finger or wait for a "Selects" line in the future. I'm expecting "Selects" to be priced at 50% = $30. If they go for $40, I'm sure they will go on special at stores from time to time.

@jamesthemagi I did buy it used a month or two after it launched. With shipping, I think it was just under $45. The Selects will be nice, but I didn’t want to wait that long.

I am assuming the eShop will prices will drop for the titles that are Selects.

The prob with Selects is that they are dependent on region because is based on sales
If EU Nintendo branch decides sales are stagnant for a particular game, then they make it a Select. However, if MK8 keeps topping charts, it will not become a Select.

A Selects line would go a long way of boosting sales if Switch successor is backward compatible. It would also encourage household to double-dip, specially for multi-player games.

You know what would be even better than meeting sales demands? Meeting the demand for account integration that would allow multiple switches to play downloaded games on multiple systems under a master account.

Oh, and joining the rest of the gaming world with Achievements/Trophies with social integration.

I will have two - I am trying to wait for more of an update than a 'battery' boost. But my son cracked the screen of my current one in two places - still works thankfully. I am trying to hold out.

@CEObrainz you can. You would need to set up one of the switches as a main switch. You need two copies of a game to play them at the same time, tho. Which is understandable, as you are only purchasing one copy of the game.

Its one of the best console i ever had, and i owned them all.

One of the best handhelds Nintendo has ever made it's bound to overtake the Wii but more importantly it's older handheld siblings the Game Boy and DS.

To be fair most households by multiple of the same handheld for multiplayer purposes so the Switch is no different.

We have three in our household. And yes, digital sharing could be better. It's one reason I'll always prefer physical games.

Of course it will beat beat Wii lifetime sales. They have sold 80 mil in less than 4 years and wii sold 100. The question is....will it beat the ds

@Razer Yup. I hope that there is a Switch 2 where you can share games on one account or transfer and save that data.

They need to improve on the gamesharing aspect between multiple consoles in one household. 90% of the time the kids are not able to play at the same time or they are not able to play with their own accounts while using multiple devices. It's really super annoying. The kids don't understand the issue and I am not able to afford, and not willing to buy multiple versions of the same game.
How can I explain my 7 year old that he cannot use his account and save game on the Light because it's my "secondary" device? There must be a more consumer, and especially family, friendly way. e.g. check if the consoles are in the same local network to avoid account sharing.. whatever...
If I had know before how bad the system is, I'd never bought the Light in addition to the normal one.

In my opinion playing the game on two devices at the same time is not the main problem. My main issue is that only the buyer of the game is able to start the game on devices which are not the "main" device. This makes all "non"-main devices worthless for the rest of the family.

It's difficult having multiple Switch consoles in a household, but it seems like Nintendo wants to force that kind of thing with certain multiplayer games that can clearly handle splitscreen.....more like splatscreen.

Certainly the Switch and SNES, I have no arguments there. But the former merges the handheld line with their big-budget console projects, and the latter benefited from an industry monopoly.

Ever since Nintendo went 3D it hasn't exactly been an achievement to best their home consoles in good game quantity.

Only one Switch in my house so far, but it's only me who really uses it. My son's 5th birthday will fall within the Switch's lifetime though, so I expect we'll be a two-switch-household before the end.

We just had a 2D Mario ranked article a couple days ago and Wii was the top ranked entry in the New series. And many in the comments agreed. Given its a popular choice among modders too tells me they agree too. Might wanna consult NL editors about that in case you know something we don't.

The controls are pretty essential to Galaxy's game design, so I doubt that. There's a reason you still must use them in 3D All-Stars.

So you go on to list a last-gen port & exclusive in the same series, a sequel to a seminal Wii game, another last-gen port, yet another last-gen port, a level editor, a 3rd-person shooter, a sequel to Monster Hunter Tri on Wii, a sequel to DKCR on Wii, a sequel to Sonic All-Stars Racing on Wii, a sequel to Rayman Origins on Wii, and 'way more'. I really don't see what's so special about this list. Looks like a watered down selection of what was on Wii. Everything here has a pretty good equivalent on it's predecessor and then some.

Its not underrated. Its actually pretty appropriately rated tbh. I own a Wii U myself, so you can save me the out-of-date sponsorship. My Wii U library, digital releases included, is half the size of my Wii collection, which according to metacritic isn't too far from expected anyway.

@Poodlestargenerica The Gamecube was lacking in some features pertaining to online multiplayer and additional content. Often multiplatform ports on it would be the worst choice to go with of the three and they made up half of it's library.

Ok. The reason I didn't rip into you for bolstering what is left of the Wii U library was because despite the reputation, it still isn't the worst Nintendo system for support. Contrast the Wii U's 782 total games with the N64's ocean of 393 games, 296 of which are playable in NA thanks to region-locking. Yup, you read that right. The top 200 Wii games eclipse nearly 2/3rds the entire NA N64 library over the course of 5 years it was on the market. I'm sorry, but 21 masterpieces (+ the 8 or so Rareware games everyone loves) isn't enough to place it anywhere near the Playstation 2.

I wasn't asking for your personal opinion. I was informing you on broad consensus and numerical fact. The PS3 has my personal least favourite library of any of the PS systems. Guess that means my opinion is fact and that it has no games right?

Considering Nintendo platforms often miss out on multiplatform releases, this is not possible.
And every Nintendo console was a gimmick machine. That's how they lead progress in the video game industry.

Again, games do not age. A game that sucks today sucked 20 years ago.

It's fine not to be a fan of certain console libraries. I know a few systems with loads of games that don't appeal to me either. I already mentioned one. But its important to recognize when you're opinions don't line up with those more experienced than you.

Edit: Being unable to retort doesn't warrant storming off in a blaze. If I were you, I'd calm down, grab a soda, and enjoy the 21+ N64 games that brought me joy all those years

Currently 5 in my household: 4 that I own myself (OG 2017 launch model, 2019 Red box model, GBA Blue Lite and Coral Lite) and 1 my brother owns (Mario 35th Edition)

@BTB20 you know something? I did not think about that. Very interesting point. I don't think historically, they're had been a console to reach 80 million plus without a single price drop.
