UK chart data is now in for the week ending 31st October, revealing that FIFA 21 is once again at the top of the table.
The Switch version of EA's footie sim is still the worst-performing of the lot, but it's not all bad news for Nintendo's console. Six of the top ten games this week are Switch-only titles, including a decent debut for the system's most recent major release.
Yes, Pikmin 3 Deluxe has managed to find its way into the top ten, securing a seventh-place finish in its opening week. Its opening sales have failed to outperform those earned by the original game on Wii U, but it has significantly outperformed last week's physical release of Cadence of Hyrule which has already fallen out of the top 40.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
1 | 1 | FIFA 21 |
- | 2 | Watch Dogs: Legion |
2 | 3 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
4 | 4 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
3 | 5 | Minecraft (Switch Edition) |
5 | 6 | Super Mario 3D All-Stars |
- | 7 | Pikmin 3 Deluxe |
6 | 8 | Ring Fit Adventure |
- | 9 | The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope |
7 | 10 | Minecraft Dungeons |

It's actually been a decent revisted playthrough so far on the handheld. I may have sold it short a bit when I commented on it before. I had already "completed" the WiiU version.
Interesting reading there and Nintendo appear to be doing well.
Overall, however, Q4 has been the quietest release wise on all consoles for absolute years apparently, for understandable reasons.
Really enjoying playing Pikmin 3 on Switch. The addition of Charging makes a lot of difference
Here we go rewarding bad behaviour. What's next, a certain president being Re elected?!
Pikmin 3 is awesome but I’m not buying it again. Surprised watch dogs isn’t number one but it is rubbish so it doesn’t deserve to be number one 🤷🏻♂️
@sixrings what bad behaviour are you referring to?
A lot of these numbers are likely due to the impending release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, successor systems.
So goes without saying fewer people are gonna buy PS4 or Xbox One games at this time.
Will be interesting to see what the sales charts are in two weeks time, after these new systems have launched! Will Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity still be able to pull a chart-topper when competing with two system launches?
Pikmin deserves love
@Gerald charging was also in the Wii u game
@Alpha008 He's crying about the framerate and resolution. For the 600th time. Sorely tempted by Pikmin 3 - the game just oozes personality and fun...
@WahooTime It was, but it is improved in this version.
The big question is how much better is it faring than the Wii U version...?
Just a pity it is not Pikmin 4.
@Falling_Stream oh that’s good although I didn’t think it needed improving. I did try the switch demo too.
@WiltonRoots actually, now I think about it, it’s probably the fact that FIFA is #1...
I was nearly sure the Wii U debuted at number one! But I would imagine this Switch version sold better regardless of chart position.
I kind of hope it flops tbh and drops hard after this. :-/ I want Nintendo to focus on other franchises like 1080, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Earthbound, Wave Race etc that have been neglected while we've had 4 Pikmin games (including Hey Pikmin) with a 5th on the way... Pikmin isn't that great to deserve so many games IMO while Nintendo sits on so many of their other franchises. It's probably only because of Miyamoto.
I loved it BUT my god I was not expecting it to be so short! I completed it in 15 in-game days, clocked 10 hours total. I remember the first game being 30 in-game days? I've yet to do the extra challenge and Olimar missions, but can't say I was impressed at the campaign length, it felt like I only got blue pikmin right before the last mission too which sucked as they were my fave in the first game
@Alpha008 port after port after port. The latest at 720p 30fps.
Been playing the story mode in 2 player on the Hard setting, and finished most of the challenge missions with platinum. Can't wait to try the extras and do extra spicy mode.
@Alpha008 The UK Charts? New FIFA out? There was only going to be one winner...
@WiltonRoots it's ok to call out something if it's not right. The review had three paragraphs dedicated to the lack of graphics upgrades. They found it ok but I beg to differ. Unless you want this to be a echo chamber than get over different Opinions. Also I'm not actually crying in a corner but if we're going to start labeling or describing people in a offensive way then we can start referring to you as fanboy Wilton.
@sixrings I dunno why you bother to be honest, what difference has it made? Zero. What difference will calling it out in here make? Zero. It's a waste and you end up sounding like a piano with one key. Complain to Nintendo themselves.
@Clyde_Radcliffe To be fair, 4 Pikmin games (not including the ports) over a period of 16 years isn't actually that many games. I know that a 5th game is being works on, but realistically, there is a good possibility that Pikmin 4 was actually Hey! Pikmin.
I do get the frustration though. It would be nice if Nintendo made new games in other franchise, such as F-Zero, Wario Land, Rhythm Heaven, but I feel that Pikmin is worth the few games it has had.
@Clyde_Radcliffe
I Disagree strongly. I hope this sells great so pikmin can move higher on Nintendo's IP totem pole. It's only had 3 mainline games in almost 20 years now.
@WiltonRoots perhaps. But like NBA players who read comments and end up with burner accounts. Like the hopefully soon to be outed president who hears anything about him and tweets in the morning. Like the celebrities who come to defend Chris pine on twitter. I have hopes that someone at nintendo reads these comments if just to get a sense of what the community is thinking. If we keep just buying anything and saying it's good enough they have no motivation to change. That's my take. And I have had every single nintendo system day one since 85.
@WahooTime wow, I have the Wii U version. It’s been a long time since a played it, but I honestly don’t remember being able to charge, used to always fire them off individually
@sixrings This site gets a fair bit of traffic - but comment sections in general are regarded as a bit of a cesspit on most news sites, hence the expression "never look at the comment sections". There's probably about 50-60 people who comment here, the polls see more action and rarely reflect the comments.
I highly doubt anyone significant from Nintendo reads the comments, and even if they did, it's unlikely they can change anything as ultimately Japan are the decision makers. Generally my attitude has always been vote with my wallet. Disappointing game? Leave it on the shelf.
@sixrings What's Chris Pine done?
@dmcc0 the avengers had a youtube special with Biden and Chris Pratt didn't participate (sorry I got my chris' confused.)
@WiltonRoots I vote with my wallet too. But I don't think it's unreasonable to think nintendo follows what people are saying. No different than they used to have surveys. You might say it's a cesspool but if a nintendo sites comment section is turning from generally positive to generally frustrated that is a indicator of whats going on. I know there are some people that don't understand the frame rate people. But I don't get how nintendolife in their own review can say (paraphrasing here because of a blackberry) that they would like 60fps in all games but 30fps doesn't ruin a rts but soon they will publish a glowing review of age of calamity which has south of 30fps in an action game and I am sure they will gloss over it or at least it won't be reflected in the review. When will the graphics and performance be so poor in comparison to the competition that the vocal minority turns into the majority.
@WiltonRoots To be fair, he's not wrong. Why shouldn't someone express their concerns when it comes to a lazy ($60) port. Shoot Bayonetta one and two (subjectively better games) were $20 on release. He has just as much right to say to express his disappointment as you are to express your opinion on the game as well.
@Gerald Well, my friend played through the whole game without noticing you can lock on to enemies so I guess if you arent paying attention to the help texts spread around you can miss stuff like that
@WahooTime It's not something big but you can charge without locking on and you charge one colour instead of the whole group, which I guess you noticed in the demo. This makes it much easier.
@LEGEND_MARIOID Isn't this techinically a Q3 game based on Nintendo's fiscal year?
@Isle_Delfino_Man I'm guessing you didn't get 100% on the campaign? If you do, it takes a good bit longer. To me, playing a Pikmin game just to get to the end is sort of missing the point. The exploration is the really fun of it.
@sixrings No, what generally happens is a handful of people post the same thing multiple times in multiple comment sections and it comes across as unrest when in reality it's just a few people kicking off. I suggest trying to talk to someone away from the gaming microcosm about your framerate and resolution issues and see how they respond. I've seen comment sections flooded by one person's outrage numerous times on this site.
Games are supposed to be a leisure pursuit. As they were always intended to be. Fun. A way to while away a lazy day and have a laugh. There's far bigger things on this planet especially right now to get worked up over.
@Chunkboi79 Yep everyone's entitled to an opinion, this is very true. Sadly it feels like I've read said opinion a million times when I got the message the first time, hence my rolleyes response.
I loved Pikmin 3 on Wii U, but it launched as a €45 Wii U game here, I bought it and still have it, and I'm not double dipping anymore, definitely not at a higher price. It may be true that I enjoy most games more on a handheld device, but I also enjoy not spending this much on something I already have enjoyed, not THAT long ago.
Now, if Killer 7, Eternal Darkness, The Thing, the Riddick games, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Hitman 2 (the old Hitman 2),... to name just a few gems, come to Switch for like €10, that's worth considering even though I still have them as well. That would be €60 arguably well spent.
@WiltonRoots and you'll keep hearing it until Nintendo listens to their fans
@Chunkboi79 Again this is true, but I doubt they're going to come here for them.
Sad that Mario Kart Live sales arent tracked by GfK, because I'm really interested if it is selling like Labo or Ring Fit (or somewhere in-between).
Wow Mario Kart deluxe outsold Pikmin 3!!
@WiltonRoots even so it doesnt mean we cant voice our concerns about a lazy over priced port.
Nintendo's FY2020 Q2 report is coming out in a few days. Expect massive numbers across the board. My predictions:
> Switch hardware: ~5 million units (~66.5 million units total)
> Switch software: ~50 million units (~457 million units total)
> Super Mario 3D All-Stars: ~5 million copies
> Animal Crossing New Horizons: ~3.5 million copies (~26 million copies total)
> Paper Mario The Origami King: ~2 million copies
> Mario Kart 8 DX: ~1.5 million copies (28.5 million copies total)
@Chunkboi79 By all means, fire away....
@Isle_Delfino_Man the MAX time you could hit in the original was thirty days, but most people who’ve played Pikmin before can finish the game in ten days or less. Ditto with Pikmin 2. Fun games, but the campaigns have never been overly long.
For me personally I found a lot more fun (and time investment) in the side missions. Had lots of fun hitting perfect co-op runs on those with family members.
@sixrings Imagine having to reach that far in a video game article to bring up politics.
@dmcc0 It all started from a tweet of a pic with pine, hemsworth, Evans, and pratt with the caption one Chris has to go. People had started smearing Chris Pratt (the actual person the rest of his castmates were defending), based on misinformation about him not going to a fundraiser for joe biden, because he was out of the country and wasn't asked to attend.
@jbreez00 @sixrings I'm kinda sorry I asked. Who cares which candidate a movie star supports (or doesn't). Twitter is dumb!
@dmcc0 Yea twitter is an unfortunate place now, there was actually a short amount of time when news was first to break accurately on there..... Like the time the Rock broke the news about SEAL team 6.
