If you're looking for your next Legend of Zelda fix, the European My Nintendo rewards scheme may just have the perfect deal for you.
Right now, you can go ahead and download Game Boy Color games The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages on your 3DS for just £2.69 / 2.99€ each. The two games are part of the latest My Nintendo promotion; simply head to the website and hand over 30 of your Gold Coins for each title.
When compared to the likes of Link's Awakening, which also released on the Game Boy Color, these two can often get quite overlooked. However, we'd argue that they're still absolutely worth your time; we'd go with Ages if you can only justify grabbing one of them.

The My Nintendo promotion also includes 30% off Cooking Mama: Bon Appétit! - which is slightly ironic given the franchise's current situation - and 50% off Ultimate NES Remix.

You mean those gold coins that you have to bend over backwards to collect, and who are subsequently removed again by Nintendo after six months of you not being able to buy anything useful with them?
I've got over a 1000 platinum coins sitting in a jar on my own MyNintendo page. You'd think that Platinum would be worth far more than gold, so how about it, Nintendo?
Allow people to trade in their Platinum coins for this as well, otherwise we who don't have enough gold coins have to once again pay full price for your old games...
I wonder if this is Nintendo's way of saying "Yea, we hear you want more 2D Zelda remakes."
I have these on my 3DS. Still need to play them. Thanks for the reminder!
@ThanosReXXX You can get the Twilight Princess Picross game for free with Platinum points if you don't already have it. That's the only one I know if though.
Does the code linking system work if you have one of the two Oracle games in the 3DS Virtual Console and the other one in an actual GBC cart?
@Moroboshi876 it should work by using the passwords.
This is an amazing discount. These two Zelda games are amazing.
@BongoBongo Yeah, I know, and I do indeed already have that one.
But thanks for mentioning anyway.
@ThanosReXXX The silver coins are used for in game rewards. You can buy some amazing stuff on the mobile games. I also use my silver coins for wallpapers for my phone each month. Can also buy some amazing printable art and even starter guides.
It's a pretty amazing deal considering Nintendo gives them to us for free.
I wish these games would come to switch...Oracle of ages is my favorite
Honestly due to the password system combined with the 3ds’ ui/notes feature, having both games downloaded on 3ds is the way I’d recommend to play it.
To those who haven't played these, what are you waiting for? Both games are excellent! And you can still link between the two using the password system.
@mesome713 I don't know about silver coins, I only have Platinum coins. As for those "amazing" things: I'm WAY past the age of being excited about getting new wallpapers for my smart phone or anything. Not to mention that I can find most of these pictures on the internet for free already.
No, I want real, tangible awards, and I want Nintendo to offer an option to trade in Platinum coins for Gold ones. I don't even care if I'd get less coins in return, but at least I would be able to use them for something that I like, instead of spending them on stupid stuff like wallpapers, themes, ring tones or whatever other cheap trash Nintendo is so "magnanimously" giving us...
@ThanosReXXX I'm pretty sure I had a few thousand platinum coins that are all gone now because I honestly be forgetting My Nintendo even exists. That's how irrelevant it is, as opposed to CN where I was checking regularly.
Not to mention already being penalized for buying physical games as far as gold coins go, so they are essentially even more useless to someone like myself. :x
@Lalivero Platinum coins stay relevant for much longer, so depending on the number of years you've had them, you may still own quite a few. Not that it matters, though, seeing as you'll only be able to get stupid things for them, unless you don't have that Picross game yet...
Oh, how I long for and fondly remember the GameCube days, when you could collect stars and coins for REAL interesting stuff, such as the Zelda Collector's Edition games and so on...
@ThanosReXXX Would be stupid to trade silver coins for gold. Silver are super easy to get. And I'm shocked how you even get silver coins if you don't play, use, or care for them. Then how the heck you have so many. That's weird mate.
@mesome713 Why do you keep calling them silver? They're Platinum coins...
And the point would be to be able to do something useful with them, so that's hardly stupid. Try and be a bit more critical about Nintendo, instead of loving absolutely everything they do. It's entirely possible to be a fan, but to also see what a company is doing wrong. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
Never completed these. Had the physicals on GBC but didn't find the time to play through them like Awakening DX.
@mesome713 Wallpapers for your phone? I'm pretty sure a 3 minute search on Google could get much better art of Nintendo games for free, i've seen some amazing Pokemon fanart for instance what wipes the floor with most official stuff.
K but can I have them on Switch?
@ThanosReXXX Nah, all mine are gone for the most part. ;3
And I miss the 'Cube in general, ha. Speaking of that, I've been enjoying Ty the Tasmanian Tiger HD. 👀
@ThanosReXXX They are incredibly useful for those who collect them. I just don't understand if they aren't useful to you, then why would you have so many. That's just weird.
It's free coins people use to buy silly and fun things. I'm not gonna whine and complain about how I'm in titled to more free stuff. Just makes zero sense. Just don't collect them if you don't like them. Nintendo will get the picture.
@WallyWest The Nintendo wallpapers are free. And they're made by Nintendos amazing artist. Plus you can get so much more amazing stuff for free. And majority of the free rewards you cannot get anywhere else. Expecially the amazing in game rewards.
@BongoBongo I would very much like Zelda Picross on the switch for platinum coins, but again they didn't bother despite pretty much denying the existence of the Wii U and slowly pushing the 3DS to the same fate.
@mesome713 I suppose if you love then more power to you, i tend to get my wallpapers for my phone from google and wallpapers for my laptop from my PS4 from screenshots i take.
@WallyWest Yeah, anyone can do that. But that's too much work. I'd rather Nintendo do the work for me.
No reason not to get the games unless you hate top-down Zelda. Or minecarts. Or minigames that throw five dozen bombs at you. Or Jabu-Jabu.
I wonder whats the point with platinum points when you can't use them on other than 3DS themes and wallpapers?
It shows how greedy Nintendo became when you can't get 50% off on these very old Zelda games with Platinum or on sale.
3 years after Switch launch, Platinum points is 100% useless on it.
In fact there is no Switch things at all on rewards.
Both are on my hacked 3DS already and I still don't play it lol.
Played through both of these underappreciated masterpieces on my teal blue GBC. Highly recommended.
I absolutely love these 2 games. IMO they don't get as much love as the other games in the series. I'm really glad i still have both from 2001. I'll never part with them.
still want Oracle game remakes
@Ventilator That's what Gold coins are for. Platinum are for in game rewards and a ton of other free stuff. Platinum coins are easy to get by playing mobile games. Would be stupid to use Platinum coins to buy Switch games, that's what gold is for. Platinum is way too easy to get, Nintendo would lose billions.
I'm shocked by the lack of thinking people have for these things.
Not for Switch, Not newsworthy
@mesome713 Thats' narrow minded thinking.
If you could use Platinum instead of Gold, you would need to use like 1000 Platinum points instead of 10G.
Thats quite obvious isn't it? It's legal to think out of the box.
Meanwhile over here in North America, the My Nintendo Rewards haven't updated since like last year.
@Ventilator Which is a silly ideal. It's super easy to get 1k platinum. Nintendo would lose billions every year. Nintendo isn't that stupid. No company is. No company would ever do that.
Matter of fact, no company does what Nintendo does now. What company pays you money to buy their games?
@mesome713 Well, seeing as they are pretty much added automatically, every time I use my 3DS or Wii U, or when I look something up on the Nintendo website, there's hardly anything I can do to stop them from amassing, now can I? So, that's not really a very well-thought out reply...
And all the free stuff might be interesting for you, but for a lot of us, who have been collecting points/stars/coins ever since there was an online catalog, the service has definitely gone down in quality. Where you first actually had a reasonable chance to acquire points in a fair amount of time, and where prices of items were also still good, they are now almost unachievable, for the real interesting items, such as that SNES controller, that they had a while back. You'd have to buy a year's worth of games to be able to get enough coins, and then of course hope that they're still in stock, which also wasn't the case 9 out of 10 times...
As I mentioned to another user, back in the GameCube days, you could actually save points to buy limited edition GameCube games and so on, which was FAR more interesting and valuable than all the highly disposable digital crap they offer now. Like I said, that's just not interesting or enticing anymore, at my age.
@Ventilator I wouldn't bother. He's never going to get it, because he is happy with everything Nintendo does. He probably thinks their farts smell like roses too...
@Lalivero Ah, that's too bad. On the other hand: the only remotely interesting thing to get for them is that Picross game, so you're not missing out on much, and if you don't like these types of games, you're missing nothing at all, so I wouldn't mourn the loss of your platinum points too much...
@ThanosReXXX It only adds point if you use My Nintendo or play their mobile games. And even then you have to make an effort to collect them. Just saying, for someone who doesn't care for none of it, you sure love to collect a lot of points. You have more points than me and I collect them.
And club Nintendo sucked. You had to do annoying surveys for cheap rewards that aren't worth while. I'd rather get paid money buying Nintendo games. Do you know how many games you had to buy for them stupid rewards. Was straight garbage.
No company other then Nintendo pays you to buy games. But that's not enough, yall want more. Yall want Nintendo to just give you everything for free and go out of bussiness. Nintendo would loose billions every year doing what yall want.
Trust me, no company is that stupid. Super silly ideal.
@mesome713 No, that's not true. Log into the eShop on your Wii U, and you get coins, log in on your 3DS, even though there isn't any Miiverse or online component anymore on either of those systems, the login is still registered on MyNintendo. I would know because I still regularly use my Wii U.
And you need to learn how to read. I don't "love" to collect them, I quite clearly told you that I simply collect them automatically by using my devices and by making the odd visit to a Nintendo page because I may be looking for a game, or buying a game, which then not only gets me gold coins, but also platinum ones, which you should know, if you actually ARE such a collector.
@ThanosReXXX That Zelda Picross or w/e? I love Picross so I've had that since it released, lls. ☠️☠️☠️ And ion even care for Fire Emblem yet, as an example, I played tf out of Heroes and other mobile titles just to rack up the plat coins initially only for all that to expire because nothing ever came of it. >.>
At the least they could let the coins not expire. Hell, let us purchase some of the NSO (s)nes games with coins so we ain't gotta keep that online mess to access the ones we want...(ik that ain't finna happen).
@mesome713 You can calm down frfr. You love My Nintendo? That's on you... but it's a hot mess imo and I'd rather just not have a system at all at this point tbh with you.
You're telling me that getting a Majora's Mask soundtrack, etc. was 'crap' rewards from Club Nintendo and that you're more excited about phone wallpapers(that Thanos already mentioned you can find for free by a simple online search). #BYE ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️😹 CN ofc wasn't perfect but I'd take it back in a heartbeat compared to what we got now.
My Nintendo rewards.
My Nintendo.
It’s not really rewarding.
I lose 500 platinum coins every month and I don’t even try.
It’s a reward system like no other
@Lalivero You paid an insane amount of money for that soundtrack. So yes, it was silly. Wallpapers are free, I paid nothing.
Club Nintendo got me a LOT of cool Nintendo related tat back in the day, and I was just a little kid buying about two discounted handheld games (worth fewer points than console games) a year. There were some crazy expensive (well, virtual money expensive) items like statues and super limited edition consoles and controllers that you'd only be able to get if you were an adult who bought a new game every couple of weeks, but most stuff you could already get after entering a couple of codes. It also had wallpapers, by the way.
The coin system has given me nothing and doesn't offer anything valuable.
I wonder which of the two was a better system!
Ah Nintendo. If you would just dump every Virtual Console title from 3DS and Wii U onto Switch today, I'd probably dump several hundred dollars immediately.
@ThanosReXXX Hehe. Anyways. The service overall have indeed gone downhill and basically hitted rock bottom now.
Here is another weird thing. If you start eShop on Wii U and 3DS, you get points, but on Switch you get nothing with same account.
Perhaps because eShop starts faster on Switch than the other two. haha
The only thing Platinum points is good for, is losing 600+ points monthly. Atleast there is some activity designed for Platinum points. Farm and lose it.
@jobvd @Moroboshi876 it works guys. I beat them both.
Gold coins annoy me. I can't use them. I buy stuff from Wii U eShop (Darksiders WE is £3 atm) & Nintendo stopped offering titles on My Nintendo. I can't even find a Switch to buy these days 😂😂
@Lalivero Yeah, I meant the Zelda Picross game. That's the only remotely nice thing I ever got out of it. Oh, wait, no: there was also that plastic 3DS loading dock that I actually never ended up using...
And completely agreed on not letting points expire. I have no idea why they do that or what the use of it is. Well, for them it's probably cheaper. For us, there's no use whatsoever. Around the time they changed from Star Catalog to MyNintendo, they literally removed/invalidated, aka stole almost 2000 stars from me.
@Ventilator Yes, it sure has gone down.
