As you've likely heard, there have been Nintendo Switch and Ring Fit Adventure shortages around the globe for months on end. Over in Japan, though, the situation sounds like it's got even worse.
As highlighted by Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad, the Japanese retailer Yamada Denki recently ran a lottery for 130 Switch consoles and 900 Ring Fit Adventure units. The winners got the chance to purchase a system and a copy of the game, but because so many people signed up (more than 200,000, to be precise), the website's servers crashed.
Unsurprisingly, the increased popularity of these two products is linked to the coronavirus outbreak and the requirement to stay indoors for prolonged periods of time to prevent the spread.
Earlier this week, Nintendo informed fans in Japan that the current status of Switch console shipments had been put on hold, and last week an update revealed both the US and Europe were struggling to keep up with demand. There have also been reports of fitness fanatics paying ridiculous prices for Ring Fit Adventure in recent times.

I was told recently that although Japan "started" with a lower amount, the graph of virus infections in Japan looks like it does in America and Europe - meaning people here in Japan are looking at the news from America and Europe and thinking "we're next".
People want any and all distractions they can get.
Here in Indonesia, Ring Fit Adventures is overloaded with insane prices due to Covid-19 pandemic. Even Animal Crossing New Horizons price in Indonesia was totally nuts. 😫
Can you blame them, Nintendo is the best. Why would you play anything else when it might be your last.
Here I am in Japan, now I'm wondering if I should auction off my switch lite for bunches of money, and then buy a switch at a much cheaper price in the future
...😆 haha, maybe, but sounds like more effort than I'm willing to put in, and I've already grown attached to my switch lite
I'm grateful to own a Switch, Switch Lite, and Ring Fit Adventure 😁
The one time I pass on a Nintendo gimmick.... Damn.
Crazy!
"There have also been reports of fitness fanatics paying ridiculous prices for Ring Fit Adventure in recent times."
Are "fitness fanatics" really buying RFA?
How are anybody supposed to come up $400 for a Switch + Ring Fit Adventure when all casinos are closed, or at least they're supposed to be, if Japan has been reopened to life after China has gotten back on its feet after 2-3 months of shutdown. Everything here is supposed to open back up in August, reports say. Let's hope that's true!

Yes, you're all going to die, because surviving chances are very, very low. This is worse than the T-virus. 🙄
@CasePB yeh in a way it’s a rubbish lottery!
I feel blessed to own both a Switch and Ring Fit since each launched.
Good thing I still got the Wii Games if I wanted to exercise, Ring fit is too expensive when it was actually available
Yeah it’s pretty bad here. The government is telling everyone to stay in their homes now and everyone and their mother wants a Switch. It’s especially difficult for younger children.
I was lucky enough to win the lottery at Bic Camera for the Switch.
I still have dance mat games, Wii Fit U or kinect games I could play for indoor exercise but really can't be bothered. Seems like with lockdown the less things you can do, the less you want to do.
That's sound strange and crazy. Why they need a handhelded console in home? Why they can't play on home console and buy Switch after this COVID-19 situation?
Nah, smol country has ok supply.
I bought Ring Fit Adventure last week from supermarket and they had several. But I assume that happened to be supermarket stock, since just checked several electronics stores and they seem to be out of stock. Same goes for Switch itself (supermarkets have those too)
@Anvold Families in quarantine together, maybe with only one TV. With Switches you don't have to keep the TV held up to play games when someone might want to use it for something else.
Still happy with the OG Switch I stumbled upon while out buying a Switch Lite a week ago!
@Anvold
Too bad Switch is just a handheld which you can't play on a TV.
The good news is, people can still buy Ring Fit Adventure and play it on their PS4 and XBox.
@Finntendo Will you ship me a copy?
You won’t have the ring, but couldn’t you follow many of the exercises with Let’s Play videos?
We need some kind of remake of Wii sports, now!
@MrBlacky for Lite it is true, but for normal Switch...Why play in it on TV, if you can use it in handhelded mode? Since I bought my Switch, I never used it in TV mode and never wanted to do it.
"The good news is, people can still buy Ring Fit Adventure and play it on their PS4 and XBox."
You can play in similar games on Wii, PS Move or Kinect. Nothing special about it. They are all the same.
@Anvold
I am almost certain you're just trolling, but okay.
Please tell, why should I NOT play it at home on a TV?
Seriously? Ring Fit is what they need to keep in shape? There's thousands of 'get fit at home' videos on YouTube for free. There has to be more of a reason than Ring Fit to own a Switch 🤔 That's the one game I don't have for my Switch. This is one of the few times it's paid off to be a day one owner👍🏼
@MrBlacky why you think I am trolling? And is something special in that Ring Fit? It's just another motion control game, like others. No?
>Please tell, why should I NOT play it at home on a TV?
I didn't said, that you shouldn't play on Switch in home on TV. I just asked, why play it on TV if you can do it handhelded? It's more comfortable to use Switch in this way. Switch is not good for big TV.
@Anvold So I haven't played every game out there, but, I've gotta ask, which games are similar to Ring Fit Adventure? I've been playing games since the 80's and haven't seen anything like it before. They got a Ring Fit Adventure game on the XBox or something?
@JudgeMethos None of those videos are as interactive as Ring Fit Adventure. Yes, people could get a plain Pilates ring and follow along but you wouldn't get the satisfaction of your own progress in the game.
Also, the game gets results, and those that are into fitness don't have many options due to gyms being closed. I personally am watching muscle definition form and I lost 5 lbs. since using RFA (picked it up at the end of October). I love it and I hope that if Nintendo makes a successor to the Switch that it's backward-compatible or have a sequel.
@Nintendo_Thumb XBox had at least one fitness based game for the Kinect that Rare made, and probably a few others. There's also Wii Fit and Wii Fit U, but those are more or less prequels to Ring Fit.
Sony and Microsoft haven't really done much with motion controls, and any games that use VR that have more movement wouldn't work for exercise because of the headset.
@Anvold
Well for one, Eing Fit Adventure is giving you real resistance with the Ring-Con.
And you really find it more comfortable, playing with your hands up to your face or starring down the whole time? Good for you.🤷♂️
@Anvold
“ Why play in it on TV, if you can use it in handhelded mode? Since I bought my Switch, I never used it in TV mode and never wanted to do it.”
Not everyone is the same as you. Amazing revelation there.
“You can play in similar games on Wii, PS Move or Kinect.“
No you can’t.
Seeing that the price of the Ring Fit I got on sale a couple months back has increased to somewhere around 300% in price, I had to have a moment of reckoning on whether I should sell it or actually try to use it. Seeing as though my daily activity levels have dropped down to "walking from desk to bathroom to kitchen" I decided I should actually use it for the reason I bought it for.
I'm a couple weeks in now, and it finally stopped feeling like a workout game and started feeling a little more like an RPG. That was the hook I needed to keep me coming back in. I'm not all big and muscley yet much to my dismay, but I did notice that I'm able to play for longer stretches of time compared to when I started. So at least there's that.
@Iacobus Have you played those games before, because I've got Wii Fit Plus and Wii Fit U and they're great but those are totally different games from RFA. Calling RFA the same as those is like saying that all standard controller games are basically the same because you push buttons on the controller to play. There's the leg strap, and the resistance band you can squeeze and stretch, it's a fitness RPG where you have to run and squeeze and push it into your chest to break rocks and pull it to collect nearby objects like a vacuum while you're running. That kind of gameplay isn't similar to anything I've played before, and I 've played a lot, but I've never heard of any other resistance-band based RPG before. The only other resistance exercise based game I can think of is the old Arm Wrestling arcade game.
N Should create a new Zelda adventure either entitled Rings of Fate or Breathless in the WIld.
@AlexSora89 haha, that's pretty cool, it's a good song too. But, I'm not a very active person on this site. I'll comment when I have something to say, but that isn't very often.
I asked my local superstore when they'd get more. They said they're in the back because there was no room for them in the cabinets and since they're a high dollar video game they can't have it out of the cabinets.
Love mine. Started about 2 weeks ago. Cant go to the gym so its bowflex dumbells and ring fit. Oh another note i cant believe Hatred is coming to Switch...Nintendo just full of surprises
