There's another anniversary taking place and this time it's to celebrate Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch. Yep, believe it or not, but Cuphead and Mugman have now been on the hybrid system for an entire year!
One year ago, this news was the headline act of a Nindies broadcast - with Nintendo thanking its friends over at Microsoft. The creator Studio MDHR was just as thrilled at the time, explaining how the run 'n gun shooter was a descendent of retro action games such as Contra on NES, and noting how it was "surreal" to finally be on a Nintendo system.
To celebrate this special occasion, you can get the game for 25% off its regular price until April 25th. Here's the official confirmation of this via Twitter:
In this time, it's even scored its own Mii Fighter costume and event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There's also an expansion coming out titled 'The Delicious Last Course' and it includes a new character called Ms. Chalice. If you haven't yet played Cuphead yet, be sure to check out our review. We said it was an absolute blast provided you could handle the intensity.

How 'bout we celebrate with a physical copy
@DAHstroy right? Remember when that was announced? I haven't picked it up digitally because I'm holding out for that.
And yet I can’t wait for “The Delicious Last Course” and the eventual physical version.
Their Cuphead runneth over* (*digitally).
Every time I turned this game on, I'd sit through the theme song in it's entirety. Every time. My son would say "Dad just press start already!". Nope. That Lo Fi hiss with distortion, piano and barber shop quartet..................
@Nintendofan83 I thought the physical release wasn't launching til the DLC was complete so it could be included.
Im also still waiting for the physical release. I hope on a Steelbook!
Still waiting for the physical release.
And/or I may grab this via GOG on PC as well as it's DRM free.
why yall whining for a physical release? you guys remind of the Persona 5 switch whining fans. If you want it so badly PLAY IT! MAKE IT HAPPEN!
@NintendoPok I did play and beat it on Switch, but I still intend on double-dipping for a Switch physical release.
Also, wasn't it supposed to get XBOX Live achievements? still no update for that wouldn't be the only game with that - minecraft has it on every plattform ...
Argh! I just bought it full price a couple weeks ago too!
one of the best switch games there is. The switch controller is perfect for this game.
LOL 25% off....I don't feel any celebration here....make it 50% and I will go dance samba on the streets even with quarantine restrictions in my city
You may want to mention that it's NA only.
I'm waiting for a sale in order to double dip for the Switch version and it's still full price.
A year?! So it is! It’s my son’s birthday tomorrow (the 20th) and I remember downloading Cuphead for a surprise for him, as he’d been watching a lot of videos of it. He was so happy!
@NintendoPok Because unlike Persona 5 for Switch, we already know a physical release is happening, genius. It’s official, just a matter of when.
A suggestion: anywhere in the article you mentioned the actual price nor the link for the eShop. Anyway, it was 19.99 and now it's 14.99.
Not available in Europe. They didn't mention that!
I don't understand why developers don't do the same discounts as they do on other platforms... I mean Cuphead has been at 40% discount on PC in the past.
@apoqalypse it’s pretty simple. Cup head was released two years earlier on other platforms. Therefore it gets steeper discounts on those platforms. The publisher knows that if you are looking at cup head on the switch you either don’t have it on another system or value the portability of the switch. They don’t have an incentive to lower the price because there is still sufficient demand at the current price.
@contractcooker Doesn't look simple at all to me, but being released earlier on other platforms doesn't make it more valuable as a product by itself. If I get it i will get it on the cheapest platform available. That's just bad for the game's performance on eShop. It could sell more than it currently sells. And it's a pretty common thing I'm seeing, not just this game.
@eRaz0r it does have achievements.
Had this in my wishlist for about a month waiting for a sale. For us happy Brits, this sale doesn't apply. Thanks to those posting about the Dlc and physical release, I'll remove from my wishlist and wait for that.
@hatosBlack yes, but not for XBOX Live - No Gamerscore for your XBOX Account, like Minecraft has on every Plattform for example. (Even on Android / iOS)
@apoqalypse Ok so for you personally it doesn’t make sense. The devs are not setting prices based on any one person. What if the switch is your only platform? What if you value being able to play the game on the go? My point is there are factors that might lead someone to purchase a game on Nintendo’s platform even though there is a price premium. The devs are setting costs based on what the market will bear. I’m not saying I like paying more for games on the switch I’m saying their are simple(ish) reasons for the “Switch tax” to exist. In the end prices will drop once the developers have data that the game is no longer selling at an acceptable rate at the current price.
In North America only, which you fail to mention as usual. Basically, if the article is by Liam Doolan, it's NA only.
@SolitaryWolf I bought it a few days ago myself.
NA only, make it 33% off and I’d be more tempted
The game is brutally hard, so much so that it’s not that enjoyable. I’m sure if you stick at it and learn the patterns you’ll be fine, but that requires a lot of time. I’d prefer those pink things to refuel your health instead of building up your combo meter, the combo meter should power up based on hits.
People complain about the difficulty but if, like myself, you were lucky enough to grow up with the arcades in the late 80s and early 90s this was the norm. You had to learn a game, play it over and over to get good at it.
@dskatter There was an official information that Cuphead will have physical release?
Not in the UK it ain’t 😭
Got Cuphead on the Xbox One. Waiting for the physical copy for the Switch...unless it dips down to 10 bucks. Then why the hell not!
I still haven't beat it. I fire it up from time to time, but end up getting too frustrated with the difficulty and turn it off.
How about they celebrate by adding online multiplayer.
Everybody answered my question, I was wondering if it had a physical release... That's what I'm waiting on.
