Last night at The Game Awards, Tripwire Interactive announced via a new trailer that Maneater, an open-world and savage shark sim, will be swimming to Switch on 22nd May 2020.
In a world where millions of sharks are killed each year by humans and (according to the trailer above) only five humans succumb to the big toothy fish, it's about time that Jaws and his buddies got revenge, and it seems they're doing so in spectacularly bloody fashion.
Self-described as a single-player action-RPG, you'll be terrorising the waters of the Gulf Coast chomping on whatever or whomever you come across as you evolve constantly into a more efficient killer.
As you can see from the trailer, it's nothing if not savagely violent - they way Samuel L. Jackson went in classic shark shlockfest Deep Blue Sea seems to be par for the course in Maneater. We remember that film being a fun leave-your-brain-at-the-door movie - we guess we'll find out if Tripwire can sustain that level for an entire game when the game's unleashed in May next year.
Woah here she comes... Let us know if you're keen for Jaws to get his revenge with a chewy little comment below.

This looks very fun. Not good, necessarily, but I love the trashy premise.
@Ralizah
It's not even an original premise, mind you. I'm fairly sure games like this have existed on older systems like the PS2, as well as shoddy Android games.
The shark evolving to mix things up is more unique though.
Idk. Seems kind of cool, but also it’s premise is low hanging fruit
Yessssss! I was hoping to play this game eventually! Open World Shark Sim sounds amazing and the trailer looks absurdly fun! I wish it was multiplayer but maybe that will come later if it gets enough attention. Many games seem to do that nowadays anyway.
From the guys behind Killing Floor, sure i'll bite
lets see if same people who was complaining yesterday about Cannibal Cuisine find this one acceptable. Still people you're killing and eating so.....
This looks fun, but I bet it's a pig to play
Looks like if the saints row team remade the JAWS game
Needs sharknado. Still I like the concept.
It really looks like a gorier, 3D version of Hungry Shark World.
I hope the shark gets to killer fishermen and poachers.
I thought I would have to get this on PS4. This was a pleasant surprise.
I love games like this, but games like this in the past I have played tend to get old pretty quickly. If there isnt a story or missions to keep me involved, it will end up like Goat Simulator, where you have fun with it, do everything you can do in the first few hours, and then have nothing else to do
@jikflet People weren't complaining about the violence, troll.
Love it, at least it'll be better than Hungry Shark World.
this website has jumped the shark a long time ago
Killing Floor and Killing Floor 2 have both proved to me Tripwire know how to make a good game.
I think I LIKE this. A lot.
@ummyeahnintendo Give me THIS plus a story mode? I'd never leave the house.
It's always a nice change when the "killer" animals we fear eat humans, instead of the billionth game in which humans "fighting against oppression and for world peace" or whatever eat sliced, ground, scorched,... innocent defenseless animals without it even being considered as violence.
Anyone else remember Hungry Shark Evolution
This looks... interesting.
I like it.
I never say the Lord's name in vain, ever.. . I was about 5 seconds into this video and my internal voice said "JC"....then I thought, "this is more gruesome than RE4," which I played many times and thoroughly enjoyed. This looks to be too much for me.
This looks amazing
Does anyone know what this is rated? I want to get this game for my friend's son who loves sharks!
A more mature version of that Ubisoft game?
