We're positively swimming in new Nintendo Switch releases every week at this point - our constantly overflowing inbox serves as a regular, major indicator of this (send help) - but we don't expect to see new games arrive for the nearly-30-years-old SNES.
That's exactly what we've been treated to today, however, with the launch of Yo-Yo Shuriken. The game comes from the same developer who recently brought us a new Game Boy title, DMG Deals Damage, and is an action game designed for one to two players. An action game with ninjas and robots, no less.
Its core gameplay revolves around shooting a single shuriken that you can magically recall at any time, which incidentally allows you to hit enemies both from the front or from behind. It's available on an actual, working SNES cartridge with a cardboard box and manual, or you can buy a copy for emulation online.
If you fancy picking up the physical SNES cartridge for this, let us treat you to some money off with the following code: 'BF2019'. This Black Friday discount will get you 10% off until December 2nd.
What do you think? Intrigued by a 2019 SNES game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I'm always happy for physical releases that work on old hardware but I'm not sure I get all about the game. Is it just destroying an endless horde until you lose? Sounds simplistic
I mean it's cute that this guy is doing little homebrew games and putting them on physical game cartridges for older systems, but the games still look a bit basic and amateur.
The act has become less of a novelty as it continues to happen, too.
I'd rather see something like Golf Story, Axiom Verge or Stardew Valley shoehorned into a SNES cartridge! Might be some memory challenges, but at least you'd have a classic game at the end of it.
I wonder how one can even procure a classic system; I just went on Amazon to look and none of them were the original systems but cheap imitations or from sellers hawking shoddy merchandise.
@RupeeClock Sadly we have yet to have something on the SNES homebrew development equivalent to SGDK which puts all the power of the Megadrive at the tip of your coding fingers. SNESs development remains a difficult achievement so every time someone makes something new, even if it looks "basic", it is one step closer to one day having a complete, open source, fully functional SNES SDK for more people to take a stab at SNES development.
@Shiryu
Indeed, any produced homebrew game is something of an accomplishment both personally and for the development scene, the the work produced may also be lacking the significance to warrant a physical release.
But for the most part, this looks like a passion project of someone who truly wanted to claim they have their own Game Boy or Super Nintendo game, which is still good on them.
It's 2019. We are all aware that talented people still make games for the SNES and most of classic systems. Do we really need a " What year is it " every time? Like it's the strangest thing that's ever happened.
@RupeeClock Depends on the devs, some of them make really cool oldschool games like Xenocrisis.
No need to say "what year is it?" again, you've said that every time a new legacy release happens.
@Severian The best way is to find a brick and mortar store. They're all over the U.S. If you're in the UK I can't help you though as outside of London I don't know if such shops still exist.
@Severian I bought a super Famicom on eBay from a Japanese seller. An au SNES from an Aussie seller and a us on from dkoldies.com, I also buy systems occasionally from lukiegames.com. there are squillions of online stores selling Retro gaming wares.
Your holding that controller like a crazy person. Game looks cool though.
Well, it seems like we can't be all like Nintendo when it comes to designing video games.
Also, being a retrogamer doesn't really mean "I'd play anything at any price".
The coding effort is praiseworthy, I only wish I could tell the same about the project.
I never really cared for these homebrew games, they are interesting for development students and hobbyists who are really into making their own games, but that has never been my thing.
