The new Sonic movie design sure has gobbled up a lot of column inches over the past few days. After the launch of the initial trailer, fan reaction was so hostile that the movie was delayed and retooled – with help from Sonic Mania's Tyson Hesse – and we now have a much more agreeable look.
TV's Conan O'Brien has taken a rather amusing swipe at the whole episode by running a skit on his show which 'introduces' a new-look design with a rather large new feature – which isn't addressed at any point during the piece.
However, fun is had by pointing out that, despite all of the injustice in the world, people actually took the time to complain about the look of a make-believe animal character from a '90s video game. It's a pretty funny piece, and well worth a watch.

Isn't it ConAn ?
Otherwise there is a typo in the headline.
Edit: fixed now, I see.
The fact that you can still see his... yeah... when it's pixilated is disgusting.
He looks more like the Were-Hog than New Movie Sonic.
Oh wow. It really could have been worse couldn't it?
Thank you, Conan
Not to be a prude, but is this not a family friendly website? I feel the video contained in this article as inappropriate.
hmm nice pun..... lul
This show is clearly on AFTER Nintendo Life staff's bedtime. AND ON A SCHOOL NIGHT. You guys are so grounded.
I generally appreciate Conan O'Brien, but this is just weird.
@ummyeahnintendo
I'm kinda hoping you are aware of that pun you just made.
@Woomy_NNYes
They didn't do their chores either.
The dishes aren't done the washing machine is still loaded and the trash hasn't been taken out either.
That's going out of their gaming time, that's for sure.
Hear that? Making Sonic look good only took one video game concept artist to do what teams of animation studios and marketing teams couldn't do in two years.
Honestly knowing some of the... "Darker" sides of the sonic fanbase I'm not surprised that this is a thing
@KitChan that actually defines most of SNL skits tbh
This site would benefit greatly from a few filter options.
@Shadowmoon522
Oh, thanks.
I didn't want to sleep anyway.
Stop war! Hunger! Injustice and Cancer!!!!
There, I just spend more time complaining about the important things of life on internet.
So now surely those thing are going to dissapear -_-
Good thing Miley Cyrus wasn't a guest that night...
@DsheroX i didn't see anything.. it was totally pixalated!
Besides, I have seen in this same "family friendly site" videos with Mortal Kombat characters riping their guts one from another, GTA character assaulting innocent pedestrians, etc....
And you are complaining about a pixelated penis from a cartoon character costume? Please -_-
@DsheroX yeah my friend got banned for using an acronym to curse how is this acceptable?
@Zequio dude my friend and many others get banned from cursing. My friend used an acronym! This isnt acceptable
@Zequio I'm simply asking for consistency. I've seen comments from team members saying this is family friendly and moderating the chats as such. At the very least they could appropriately tag the comment. That would be a very responsible way to do it without self censoring. Simply just have a warning tag of sorts.
How on earth is this image allowed on this family friendly site?
Holy crap.... I can’t breathe.... that was waaaaaay too funny. Puts the Hog in Hedgehog
@Damo If you get canned for sharing this, know it was worth it! Panties were tinkled.
I am honestly in full agreement with those concerned about the family friendly nature of this site (and the sister sites). You should absolutely have an option to turn off more "risque" articles like this one if the content makes you uncomfortable or you're very young. You might run into some legal troubles too, if you're not protected in your user agreement.
Can y'all just say it wasn't funny rather than trying to play the "inappropriate" card?
@DsheroX have you seen the way "mature" people talk in online games? I've heard literal kids on mics, meanwhile filth is going on in the comments when they KNOW a kid is there.
Some parents are obviously dumb to let them play multiplayer games in the first place, and they're obviously too young to be playing mature games anyway.
Plus communities are usually toxic anyway so..
Oh and N4G is definitely not family friendly either, sometimes littered with very sexual stuff all over the pages, but then clicks = money so they don't care.
@CatSoul It wasn't funny AND I found it entirely inappropriate for this website. That's the best you're gettin' matey.
@FlyingFoxy Two wrongs don't make a right.
You know how much gore has flown through this website in Mortal Kombat gameplay footage alone? And yet now we're outraged about a blurred appendage that isn't on the front page in a video that nobody made you watch.
"Think of the children!" Watch ya kids. The Internet isn't a babysitter.
@CatSoul Lol, well said, was thinking the same.
Was it a crude joke? Yes. Was anyone FORCED to watch it? No. It wasn’t even hosted, nor made by this site, just linked to.
The best you’d get me to concede to on it would be maybe it should have been tagged with NSFW, but in that regard, then so should all Mortal Kombat, Saints Row, Witcher, Diablo, and every other mature game.
The joke was just silly nonsense, and if you believe your kids haven’t seen worse, you’re completely and utterly gullible. Kids today have extremely easier access to vastly more inappropriate stuff.
I’d actually be willing to bet the amount of children that visit this site you could count on 2 hands. I’m sure this site is more frequented by adults, and yes some of us are parents. If you want your child shielded from stuff like that then ultimately it’s your job, not a websites.
Hmm more passive agressive behavior from Hollywood when people point out crap.
Love us!
These out-of-touch Hollywoodites hating on the Sonic redesign just makes me want to support it even more.
@Wavey84 Overdoing it a bit if you think the 80's and 90's were some sort of peacefull haven.
This kind of stuff has always been around, you just have easier access to it nowadays.
In the end it's the responsibility of the parents to look after their kids, and what they are up too.
Not a website.
Yes we should all go back to the past, I heard the earlier you go the more innocent everything was - preferably the Neolithic age where there was zero nudity and absolutely no humans being murdered by other humans or huge carnivorous animals...
@Wavey84 Young and defensive? Haha. If you were born in '84 (like your handle suggests) then I'm actually older than you... No my friend, I wasn't defensive at all; just providing a counterpoint to the one which you seemed to have written from behind rose-tinted glasses.
You are free to be nostalgic for the past, but my own mantra is to move with the times. I only suggest you don't get too sentimental, otherwise you'll soon find yourself being the resident "old man shouting at clouds". From one old-timer to another, I must say your comments seem to be veering dangerously close in that direction 😄
(Edit: I see you've removed that bit about me being young and defensive. I'm lazy to change what I've said so I'm leaving it untouched for posterity. Cheers!)
Well, my childhood memories are ruined forever. Again. At least Conan was the one to do it this time!
@Wavey84 You pointed something out that I meant to, you can’t shield your kids from everything. You try that, and you end up with a new set of problems. Going over to a friends house and playing a mature rated game that their parents allow has been common since even I was a kid.... when Mortal Kombat came out on SNES/Genesis all my friends came to my house since my parents allowed it, and the vise versa was my friend raiding his dads playboy/hustler stash so we could all see that when we went over there.
So this whole thing has been going on for a long time, it’s nature. Instead of blocking and shielding, you’re waaaaay better off explaining and teaching. That way when your child does eventually come across various subject matter, they’re better prepared to handle it.
I would watch this thing day 1 if they left it floppin' out like that. Same PG-13 script, just swap him in there and slap a hard R on it.
@Wavey84 Lol so true! And while I still like MK from back in the day, I concur that games have gotten far more, and possibly too, realistic. I got the new MK because I noticed some of the fatalities went back to over the top style - still miss Babalities though, those were the best. But MKX I had to skip on, too much head dissection for my tastes. Blah. Same reason I don’t play most FPS or shooters in general. Doom sure, wolfenstein as well, and Borderlands, that’s pretty much it though. I prefer my mature gaming on the side of Conkers Bad Fur Day, Saints Row 3, and Dead Rising - over the top comedy / comedic violence. Was raised with Loony Toons, and it shows. 😂
But my game time on my Switch will show where the largest portions of time are had - Monster Hunter, Stardew, Mario, Isaac, and Gungeon.
@FTPinkRabbit You.... I like you.
THAT'S BEASTIALITY
@DsheroX It's not the first time they've shared something like this. However, they've always given us a NSFW warning before, and I don't know why they neglected to do so this time.
@BulbasaurusRex pshhhh, it was obviously his tail. I don't know what all you are talking about.
