Yesterday, Capcom revealed that the original Devil May Cry will be hacking and slashing its way to Switch this summer. Now, the studio has released the first batch of in-game screenshots for us to check out and examine in excruciating detail.
We get our first look at both Dante (above) and Trish (below), in-game scenes, and even some battle shots. You can check them all out right here.
If you missed the news, Capcom has also revealed that it has "no plans" to release a physical edition of the game. As it stands, it will be a digital-only release.
What do you think of the screens above? Are you excited to see this one on Switch? Tell us below.

Well, this looks ok, I guess? But what's the price, Capcom! Damn, just tell us already.
If it were DMC4 or DMC5 I'd be interested, but this game is way too old...
Oh how I love you, let me count the polygons.
Yep, looks just like the HD Collection version and there's nothing wrong with that.
It misses 2 shadows, 3 pixels and 7 bump mappings.
(I am the Digital Foundry of tomorrow)
And this will be at least 20$ while the collection of the first 3 games is 30 on other current consoles. Capcom Crapcom Capcom...
This is just one big joke to me.
Give us DMC5 already, or at least a trilogy of the first 3 games...
Anything more than $10, no way man.
Boy, that is one ugly hand !
@Dang69 that’s 100% no way then :3
Looks good? Man, by and large, this looks like a DMC game that the Wii could have handled. It's horribly outdated. Thanks ever so much, CrapCom. NOT...
Hope we get newer releases on switch. Maybe a switch pro would solve the problem
Looks ok and to think people were saying it’s gonna be a straight ps2 port not even Capcom would do that whilst they are at it with ps2 ports how about God hand never got to play it
Can't wait! With news dropping yesterday about the game coming to Switch, today is screen shot day, tomorrow could be.......release info and pricing day?!?!?!
Capcom is really using the switch for porting old stuff... so booooring. Try a new game already! We want new games, not 15 year old games or older. Please...
And why only one game DMC. Seems so random.
Better not be over $10. Since we can't get more games or a plastic release, there's no excuse for asking for more money.
@Indominus_B No we just expect to pay the same amount that users of other consoles do. And given the recent pricing of their RE games it is likely that will not be the case.
Without a physical release, I have no interest.
Looks alright, remasters really show the age of so many of the textures it is like watching a slow motion train wreck.
Also, the price will likely be $Capcom.99 USD.
I want to be surprised that Capcom will charge $30 for this. I really want to.
Look at dem french fry fingers!
Looks similar to dragons dogma lol we want DMC5
Calling it now: $19.99.
@Indominus_B
Every release should be free, with a physical edition coming with bonuses, same day as every other system, and with apologies for the game not being more than 720p undocked.
Everyone's rightfully complaining about this not being a trilogy and this probably being overpriced... but I do want to mention Okami HD, which is kind of a steal at $20 ($15 on sale all the time, like right now).
@Indielink
Capcom won't put money and work to port the game only to charge you the price of a second hand 18 years old disc. Because... you're not their nephew. Sorry !
Higher resolution isn't doing 2001 models any favors. :-/
guess wat guys crapcom is making this game digital only nintendoeverything site has the article up.
Really hard to justify this when there's an HD Collection on Xbox 360 and PS3.
I’m okay but thanks capcom
I'm stuck on the final boss on PS3. It's aged alright other than the hilarious menus and fonts. Weird thinking this was once what RE4 was going to be.
looks like they just took the first game off the HD collections and ported that
not that it matters, it saves them time and money after all
@Tibob This is only the barest minimum of an HD remaster. This is no work on Capcom's part. If they want to give me the full trilogy for 30 dollars that is on other consoles I will gladly pay up.
Alright, cant wait! Need some pizza and a strawberry sundae!
@Indielink
Porting any game and pushing its release is always work and money.
I'll agree that this single game shouldn't be the same price as the 3 games collection elsewhere.
Silver lining is Capcom loves sales so waiting a (ninteenth) year should mean half price.
@Hobbesyall I agree. No way does it sell for less than $20. Capcom prove me dumb please.
This is definitely a dream come true for me. Hope we get the rest on Switch.
@Tibob Capcom games seem to go on sale 2-plus months after they release at retail.
@Indominus_B that's because those old games are pretty much always over priced on switch. take the RE games for exemple, they were 10 bucks cheaper on ps4 when they launched and capcom is trying to charge 10 bucks more for what is pretty much a digital only release when ps4 had a full physical release for 10 bucks less.
people are right, they have to rant because capcom is complete nonsense when it comes to the switch. they try to abuse switch gamers and charge a tax for portability and the sad thing is that it works for them. People will blindly defend this nonsense because it's portable. but i, as a consumer, refuse to support such nonsense. i can spend my money on better products. i could get team sonic racing for 10 bucks more than resident evil 4, and that's a brand new game!
@MattFox Probably $30 american, knowing Capcom
A Ghouls n’ Ghost game would be much better.
Those f***** can stick their games elsewhere. I won't give them a single Cent anymore.
Capcom could bring RE7, RE2, MH World or at least REMAKE some older games for the Switch, but that of course would mean some work.😏 On the other hand, I'm pretty sure people would buy those games (I would, mostly) and so they could earn something for their work.
A lot of people expecting an upscaled PS2 game to look like a new game.
Why are people so entitled to another's work?
Buy it or not. Cool story bro.
Dante's (even then overrated) "coolness" hasn't aged well. About as cool as Bart Simpson with a trenchcoat parodying the Matrix.
@Tibob I didn't mean it literally. But this should be a low effort release. As someone else said here a few minutes ago, I can get Team Sonic Racing, which comes out in 2 weeks, for only 10 dollars more.
@MrBlacky Calm down before you pop a vein. It's just a video game. It's not life or death. Things will be okay, friend.
@aznable This would be am impulse buy for me, so anything beyond 20 bucks is and will always be a hard pass. I know this game is supposed to be fun, but it looks old. It should go for 15 dollars tops.
@Trajan Exactly! It's just the same as yesterday — so many people complaining. It's ridiculous to me how people can't be happy with anything these days. If the game (or its graphics/price) doesn't appeal to you, then don't buy it. It's honestly that simple.
$5 max and anything more, not buying.
FYI for the ones saying people can't be happy with anything.
The internet was invented so people could watch Porn and Complain, period.
@MattFox well obviously people aren't watching enough porn.
@MattFox Well its as they say "the internet is for porn" - Avenue Q. But, really who buys the HD collection for DMC2? We all know people buy it for DMC1 & DMC3 and DMC2 is just a bonus pack-in game! Maybe their saving time just giving us the good DMC games.
Also, I do hope this is not a straight port of the HD version as it is rather buggy.
@Onion and PS4/XBOX One, speaking of which that trilogy is currently £15 on PS4 and I'm willing to bet this single game cost more than that.
For reference the trilogy costs £25 when not in a sale
@carlos82 I will point this out, but the trilogy version of DMC1 is rather poor. There are massive amounts of technical glitches (like being hit by invisible projectiles when they were meant to be translucent), sound differences (missing music layers, compressed audio, incorrect sound files playing) and even graphical bugs not found in the PS2 version. It was made in a time before publishers really put effort into their 6th generation ports. So if Capcom fixes those issues than I think it will be worth the price for a more truer version of DMC1.
This just a small sample of the issues : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMhem6M5gWc
Looks like a PS2 game... Oh, wait!
Good, it's the remastered version at least.
This truly pushes the power of the console.
On a serious note good to see Dante on the Switch
@JaxonH Am I going insane! Why do people want the remastered version when that version has major issues not found in the original? Maybe if they're fixed I'd understand, but its got some major issues that have never been patched for a maybe slightly better looking version that is missing visual effects like motion blur.
@Wexter assuming they put that much effort in but I rather doubt it, at the moment they just seem to be testing the water for what may sell on the Switch. In fairness to Capcom they have priced their games fairly on Switch apart from the Resident Evil titles which are double the price of their PS4 counterparts and that simply cannot be justified
@Nerdfather1
First of all, how did you come to the conclusion, I need to calm down in any way?
Second of all, NOW I am a little bit pissed off, because some random guy on the internet is telling me to calm down for whatever reason.🙄
But of course, if you want to support Capcom (or others) with their absolutely minimum effort, be my guest. But like I said, FROM ME they won't get any money for the time being.
@carlos82 That's the vibe I'm getting too. But, I'm just so confused why people really want the HD version so bad because of its reported problems. I thought the bigger thing people would want was a fixed version of DMC1 since they are selling that version on its own merits rather than with DMC3.
@MrBlacky This was your first sentence: "Those f***** can stick their games elsewhere. I won't give them a single Cent anymore." That sounds like you need to relax. As for your other point, I never said I'm going to support them. However, I'm not going to throw a fit about the issues. If I want the game I will buy it; if I don't want it I won't purchase it.
@Wexter its probably more due to how Capcom haven't fixed it after this long that the best case scenario is just getting the HD trilogy at this point
@carlos82 When its explained like that it makes a bit more sense. Maybe it is just I've been spoiled recently with Okami HD and FFXII Zodiac Age that I just would want more than just a bad port re-ported. I'll wait for reviews as while I love DMC1, I'm not a sucker.
@Nerdfather1
Do not ever try to judge any kind of emotional condition on something written on the internet or somewhere else. Please don't do it.👍
@MrBlacky Then do a better job at conveying what you're trying to say.
I said that I won't support Capcom and their practices anymore and I said it pretty clearly and you are trying to be some wannabe-internet-Dr.Phil.
BTW would you guess, that you're really pissing me off, by the way I am writing this comment? No? I wonder why?🤔
Have a nice day.
If they sell it at full price they can grab a shovel and burry it already.
@MattFox I played it when it first came out, it's definitely a good game but isn't worth the premium capcom will undoubtedly charge. I'm holding of RE4- one of my personal top 10 games of all time- until it's more reasonably priced.
@ThanosReXXX it is a port of a Ps2 game...
@HammerKirby Well that explains it. But if this is a remaster, then it's pretty bare-bones, to put it mildly.
@MrBlacky I said do a better job at conveying what you’re trying to say in terms of an emotional response. If you don’t want people to think you’re angry, perhaps use proper words and sentences that convey that. Cursing and telling Capcom they can shove it is basically implying you’re frustrated/angry. That’s not being Dr. Phil; that’s called common sense.
I hope they´ll do like with Onimusha, and sell it for 20 at most. And let´s hope they put it on offer soon enough so we can get it for 15 or less, otherwise it won´t sell much...
It just doesn´t look good. They should´ve brought the trilogy
@Wavey84
I agree. I hate that the ports of old games has taken the place of new games. I can’t believe that the big publishers aren’t using the very high spending Switch owners to put out original content specific for that audience. I think exclusives are what Switch owners really want and will buy. Just look at octopath traveller. It’s sold in millions. But that’s really the only big exclusive I can think of from the big publishers...
I'm so chuffed it's coming to Switch. I do hold out hope for some boutique publisher managing to release physical copies of DMC and RE4.
@MrJuancho A game that is old does not tell you if it will be a game for you or not. Or even tell you if it is fun unless you try it yourself one day.
Enough with the lame "not aged well" excuses people.... like who came up with that saying? It Triggers me so much. (Unless I am in a really really good mood then it won't.)
Watching a shark film scary x
@Gs69 Dude yes, it's one of my favourite games period. I would shamelessly buy it at $60 if they would re-release it.
@Ladasta Octopath isn't an exclusive anymore, well it won't be next month.
Switch doesn't get the other games because it has weaker and unique architecture.
The switch is the successor to the 3ds that you can also plug into your TV. It isn't meant to compete with Xbox/PS4/PC. If some of those games come to Switch then that's awesome, but you shouldn't expect it.
MHW is now Capcoms highest selling game. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/monster-hunter-world-is-now-capcoms-best-selling-g/1100-6466697
It's easier to develop a game based around one set of hardware that reaches more people.
I think if they brought 2-4 to the console, they probably would consider a physical bundle release?
@Trajan It's not the successor to the 3DS.
Not suprised that some people here are defending Crapcom's crappy practices.
Can't wait!
Dragon's Dogma is incredible on the Switch, all these masterpieces deserve to be on it.
Hopefully won't be too long for the whole series to be released.
I'm sure It'll be at the top of the eshop charts like DD.
Yep, that would be it. Look at them hands.
CAPCOM is not even pretending at this point - it is straight, how much can they get away with on Switch.
If this is the same “no effort” port as the remaster on PS4 What’s everyone having a big cry over? The price that not one single person knows about yet?
Are DMC fans a sensitive bunch? All the whinging seems so ridiculous I’m kind of being put off playing it ever.
I don't think this version looks that bad. I have never played this game regardless, so I don't see any loss here. Besides not having a physical release of course.
@Dpullam agreed. It may help that I love the era (Dreamcast etc) and overlook the graphics. It should be all about the gameplay IMO.
@Platinumhobo I’ve read so much about God hand games like this are the type that should be getting digital releases seems like a classic that not many people got to play
@telepathy2000 I totally agree. I grew up around that era as well. I started with the Sega Genesis but didn't truly love gaming until the n64, then the Playstation 2. What this game offers is what I have enjoyed for most of my life.
@Gs69 Yeah, and I know back in the day it was partially IGN's fault no one played it.
Anyways, GET ON IT CAPCOM. Give us Godhand!
@Platinumhobo yeah I remember they gave it a bad review and to get a copy now can be a bit pricey
@Trajan
Yeah I know that. But when it was released it was an exclusive since noone knew it would later be coming out for PC. The switch is no successor to 3DS. It’s a successor to Wii U that is truly portable. Or more or less portable at least.
The system can perform quite demanding games. Just look at the performance on some nintendo games and panic button games. It’s quite capable if the time and energy and money is spent to make the games great. And I think it would pay of for more publishers to give the Switch audience more tailored experiences that’s been made exclusively with the switch in mind.
Sweet, now we just need to know how it runs, then a price.
