Pokémon Detective Pikachu has had a pretty stellar launch, enjoying the biggest opening weekend for any video game movie ever, so can we already start dreaming of a sequel? We're not sure, but let's do it anyway.
To be fair, we're not the only ones already imagining a second exploration of Ryme City; Screen Rant recently sat down with two of the film's writers, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, asking that very question. While they could have gone for an epic Mewtwo backstory film, or even a live action version of the anime, Hernandez opted for an American Idol-style flick featuring the singing career of Jigglypuff and now we can't think of anything else.
Hernandez acknowledged "the severe problem of [Jigglypuff] putting everyone to sleep", which would no doubt cause several issues in the scriptwriting process, but he seems up for the challenge nonetheless. He said, "We love Jigglypuff. I like the weird Pokémon that really want something, and just by their nature, Jigglypuff can never achieve that." Screen Rant notes that he eventually dubbed his imaginary masterpiece Jigglypuff: A Star Is Born. We can see it now.
Something tells us the idea won't actually catch on, but perhaps we will see a sequel in some form. If that was to happen, what would you like to see? Let us know down below.

Sounds like a snooze fest.
(Don’t cut me Jigglypuff!)
Awesome idea!!!
except jigglypuff wanting to sing to audience is nothing but anime exclusive nonsense.

@Greator Listen, I don't even understand Pokemon nonsense so it's fine for me. I also doubt my 8 year old son will walk out midway through his/her (its?) song saying 'THIS IS NOTHING BUT ANIME EXCLUSIVE NONSENSE AND I DEMAND A REFUND'.
@Lordplops this is a nintendo fansite. let me be a hopeless nintendo fanboy here
The sad thing is that Jynx would make the perfect foil/rival, but it’d never happen.
A Spice Girls-style origin story of an all Pokémon girl group could be a lot of fun, but I think it would be a lot funnier in a slapstick/silent film style where the Pokémon behave like Pokémon rather than being anthropomorphised (with a human agent mediating the chaos).
So,
Disney'sIllumination's Sing, but with Pokemon. Gotchya.@AlohaPizzaJack Illumination is definitely not Disney.
@AlohaPizzaJack : Let us not speak of such abominations.
@justin233 Whoops! It's all the same to me
Sounds like it'd be better as a short included as an extra in Pokemon Detective Pikachu's physical/digital releases rather than a full film. The premise is too thin and flimsy for a legitimate sequel.
becarful after jigglypuff song puts everyone to sleep jigglypuff will draw on peoples faces.
This could work very well as a promotional thing or a short. It sounds great!
@AlohaPizzaJack ...I'd watch that. And enjoy the aftermath when everyone wakes up with crazy marker drawings all over their faces. XD
@PikaPhantom To be fair, I think it was more of a joking answer.
I think jigglypuff on The Voice would be funnier
My favorite Pokémon! I would give my left leg to see this movie! Jigglypuff was severely underutilized in Detective Pikachu.
(And at the end, she gets that Smash invitation)
