Can you believe it? We’ve already made it to the third month of 2019. On the Nintendo front it means even more games are on the way to the Switch. To help you decide exactly which ones will be worth your precious time during the month of March, our lovely video producer Alex Olney has compiled a list of games to be on the lookout for over the next 31 days.
If you haven’t got time to listen, below is the full list of games on Alex’s radar this month:
- ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove
- Awesome Pea
- Unknown Fate
- Elevator...To The Moon! Turbo Champion’s Edition
- Valley
- Claybook
- Baba Is You
- Golf Peaks
- Fate/EXTELLA LINK
- Unravel Two
- Final Fantasy VII
- Xenon Racer
- Yoshi’s Crafted World
As you might have noticed, the big Nintendo release is Yoshi’s Crafted World on 29th March. If you’re still on the fence about this one, make sure you check out the demo available from the eShop.
Are you looking forward to any of these games? What other Switch releases in March are you eager to get your hands on? Tell us in the comments below.

Yep, people shouldn't sleep on Unravel 2. It isn't DKTF levels of platforming, but it is a better co-op platformer than it imo and has fun gimmicks and stages. It's surrounded by giants (Donkey Kong, Shovel Knight, Rayman Legends, and hell even Yoshi) but I recommend people to pick it up.
So some of those are eShop rather then Physical. That makes it easy not to buy those but only the Physical option.
Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists is pretty much THE March release I'm targeting so far - and if I decide to go for the full package, it could literally become one from the financial perspective, too. XD Here's hoping it'll FINALLY show up on eShop soon so I can assess the factual prices and make plans.
I'm not interested in any of those lol Yoshi is a maybe but meh ...
Maybe Golf Peaks and Xenon I’m getting for my Scorpio. 4K at 60fps? No contest
The link to FFVII is wrong....
I’m still here waiting for the Metroid Prime HD Trilogy....
I don’t no about “fantastic”
I'm gonna look and see what i'll get. probably Yoshi. (still need to try out that demo.)
Definitely not a bad assortment of titles. I'll be getting Final Fantasy VII as I've never played a Final Fantasy title and it seems like a good place to start. Heard it's one of, if not the best in the series. Plus, it's cheaper than the others and Cloud is in Smash.
I'll probably get Yoshi's Crafted World. I actually pre-ordered it at Best Buy to make use of my now expired GCU (didn't technically pay for it yet). After playing the demo, I didn't think the game looked or felt as good as Crafted World. Neither did the music. But hey, I only played the first level (demo) so I'll probably enjoy it.
Lastly, I just ordered Let's Go Pikachu for a discounted price online. I didn't care for it last year but since I just got my tax refund and seeing all the Pokemon talk and hype recently, I kinda just caved in. Should be here next week so that's why I mentioned it.
Wake me up when Animal Crossing or Pokémon release. Wasn’t really impressed with Yoshi’s demo and fear it will be incredibly easy (and boring). Wish it was more of a direct sequel to Woolly World.
Just Yoshi, would've also tried FFVII but it's too close to Yoshi so it's going on the buy some other time list instead.
@wiggleronacid The best part about Final Fantasy is that it doesn’t matter where you start. I do highly recommend VII, just don’t let the outdated graphics bum you out. It’s an amazing game. I also highly recommend IX (my favorite).
If you wanted snes style Final Fantasy, most people would say VI is the best (even of the whole series), but you can’t go wrong with IV either.
Whichever way you go, I hope you enjoy!!!
was going to watch the video, but cant stomach the host.
Yawn.... 😴
Not interested in any.
Golf, xenon and Yoshi...
@Joe-b heeeeh-looow there.... 😂
Buying Yoshi day 1. Really excited for it.
@Joe-b
Same. 😣
Can't say there is anything I feel the need to jump on this month. Was able to clear the majority of my backlog. But the ones I want from this month are either digital, or low priority to me. So I'll probably focus on titles I missed instead. It helps that I've seen a few of said titles going on sale, so yeah.
@wiggleronacid VII isn’t a bad place to start. Hope you get to try 6 (3 in NA on SNES.) Thats the pinnacle of classic Final Fantasy, in my opinion.
I have a mighty need for Baba is You. I've been looking forward to that game since its unveil as a concept.
Just Yoshi for me on the retail front. On the eShop front I'll probably go for something already on my wishlist rather than any of those upcoming titles when the time comes.
BTW, are that many of the indies really super exciting releases? I can absolutely understand the excitement for Toejam & Earl and Unravel 2, but some of the titles listed seem like (unnecessary) padding.
How can you leave out Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon? Do you guys do any research before these articles? Come on now.
April
Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon
Yoshi’s Crafted World
Final Fantasy VII
Unravel 2
Xenon Racer
Fate Extella Link
Those are my March pickups. And God help me because this is the calm before the storm. April and May are going to be INSANE.
April/May
Darksiders
Ace Attorney Trilogy
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII
Dragon’s Dogma
Mortal Kombat 11
Super Dragonball Heroes
Assassin’s Creed III / Assassin’s Creed Liberation Remastered
Saints Row The Third
Resident Evil 0 Remake
Resident Evil 1 Remake
Resident Evil 4
Team Sonic Racing
Played the yoshi demo with the kiddos and actually really liked it.
I seriously haven't heard of half of these games! This just shows how far behind I am getting on eShop/physical releases!
@JaxonH "Final Fantasy X-2"
I'm sure you've heard this before, but that's one of the worst games I've ever played, it's not worth even your seemingly endless time and money. FF:CC:TCB on Wii may have been worse, but probably not. Even FF13 and FFXV are much better.
If you really feel the need to play it just buy this Malibu Barbie Colorform set instead. If you don't get the joke now, you'll regret getting it later.
Now that we finally have FFVII, all I need is Super Mario 64. Yes, I'm getting old. The 5th generation remains the most influential for me.
@rjejr FFX-2 is massively underrated. The job system was well implemented and the story was light and fun.
I'm getting the feeling you didn't like the female characters as every other game with a job system also involves the character changing clothes.
I just got dead cells and having a blast so I think I’m good for a while but god this summer is going to be insane. Daemon x Machina and Mario Maker 2 and Astral Chain and Bloodstained and Dragon Quest builders and fire emblem and more probably god this year is going to be great.
The Division 2, Devil May Cry 5 and Sekiro on my list for March.
Thought maybe Yoshi, but the demo was pretty underwhelming. Daemon and astral chain can't come soon enough.
Only decent game in this line up looks like Yoshi’s Wooly World it would seem.
@Agramonte DMC is coming to Switch or am I mistaken?
FF7 is there at the end but nothing else of interest for me. This is definitely a filler month.
For me: Yoshi. And maybe one of the eShop games.
I will be picking up FF7, I've been requesting it since switch launch so I feel obligated.
That and it's also my favourite game of all time , it's like a time machine to 8 year old me.
I'm actually a bit hyped for The Caligula Effect: Overdose, release on the 15th of march.
Assault Android Cactus on march 8th, and Yoshi among these.
Maybe Golf Peaks?
And who knows what games will be dropping on the eShop from nowhere
AAA games Yoshi and maybe one other.
Just yoshi for me
@JaxonH
I'm interested in Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon myself, hopefully it turns out well! I'm probably getting the new TJ&E game, though.
But all I want for March, is Yoshiiiiii~ ♪
(And Final Fantasy VII)
Got a couple others in sight as well though but going to hold off on those for just a little while, just Yoshi and FFVII are going to be expensive enough this month.
Might get Yoshi if it goes on sale. Demo was certainly enjoyable. Can get Unravel 1 + 2 for cheaper on PS4.
Yoshi is preordered years ago. Can't wait for it.
@wiggleronacid let’s go is awesome
@rjejr
I've played it actually. Well, some of it. I never finished (just wasn't as good). Still decent, but not on the level of X.
That Yoshi demo was horrible. Really boring and easy. No platforming skills required, no timing needed, just shoot eggs at every object.
Yoshi is a lock for Day 1. FF7 will be some time later
Final Fantasy VII for me!! I am playing IX at the moment and I hope I will end it before VII arrives. I am excited with IX already, it looks amazing!!
Will beat ix probably this weekend (just doing a bit of grinding before final bosses) and will get FF VII day one (I wanted this portable for so long!!!)
@Wavey84
Heck ya yippy. Games that have never been on a handheld and certainly never a hybrid, never been on a Nintendo console, and are just flat out amazing games...
Yippy indeed. Had Vita or 3DS seen a lineup like that people would have had a heart attack. And even then then they would've been super-sub-HD with not enough buttons to play.
Lot of gatekeeping going on here, like you have to play games the minute they release on the first system they drop on, and if you're excited for a different version (like a portable hybrid version), theres something wrong with you because it's "already released on PS4". That's nothing but elitist gatekeeping.
Definite pick ups:
Toejam&Earl
Unravel 2
FF VII
Yoshi
Probably:
Fate/Extella
All the rest are maybes, just depends on reviews/impressions. March is a pretty solid month, especially for what's considered a "slow" month.
Want to get Yoshi this month, although the demo was ok it was only the first level so the game will obviously get a lot better as you go further. Good to see the game giving you more freedom than running from left to right and I like collecting things.
Will be getting FF7 at some point too. Already have FF12 (my favourite FF game) on PS4 physical.
Sadly it’s still not this month i’ll Be buying my first 2019 Switch title ! And by the looks of it my first title is Fire Emblem in July ! Looking forward for Sekiro this month though
@HumanDog plus Inane music and that depth of field effect made my eyes go screwy. I just spent my Yoshi budget on somethin else.
Yoshi and ff7 will be the games to get
On a side note, it seems like this year i'll be buying a game per month
With january being tales and february being ff9
@JaxonH FF VII and Yoshi for sure
Unravel 2 and Toejam and Earl I might.
My most anticipated March game is The World Next Door. It looks amazing and releases 28 March.
Not the best month of the year, but FFVII, Unravel 2, Xenon Racer and Yoshi are on my radar.
@rjejr @saintayu agree with saintayu here. FFX-2 is a very good game. It's no more a dress up Barbie than FF3, FFV, Bravely Default, or Lightning Returns. In fact, the 'dressphere' job system, and the battle system itself have a decent amount of depth to them.
Yoshi is guaranteed, maybe Unravel Two as well. Looks like a fun game to play with my family.
Maybe Yoshi for me, although my backlog of Switch games to get is ever increasing
meh. I'm just buying the FF ports. Nothing new really looks great on Switch until Fire Emblem in July
There’s a couple two tree games on here that picque my interest. In particular and what I’m most excited for is Final Fantasy VII.
Then there’s Yoshi of course which I did play the demo and thought that it might not be as much of a must buy as I had anticipated. Now don’t get me wrong, the game is awesome and you call tell a crap ton of work went into it with that classic Nintendo flair but it’s kind of, shall I say, breezy. True, it’s only 1 or 2 levels in the demo but yknow. I’m still getting it I think. It’s just too adorable.
Awesome Pea is really cool and it actually checks a lot of boxes for me but it also feels a bit too cheap for its own good at the same time. I love the art direction and the screen effects and sounds but in reality it really just makes me want to put it down and pick up Mario, 6 golden coins.
@saintayu What I didn't like about FFX-2 was:
It followed FFX, and it shouldn't have. FFX had one of the best stories in the series. I bought a PS2 for FFX and didn't regret it a bit. All of it, except the sphereball minigame, was great. Story, characters, locales, gameplay - even though turn based menu driven gameplay was wearing a bit thin for me even way back then. But it was a really great game. I've been calling it the last good FF game since then, as FF11 and 14 were both online, 12 lacked a memorable story, 13 was a mess and 15 a disaster. But X was epic.
Then X-2 happened. W/o hardly any of the characters, or the story, or anything.
My wife and I always refer to it as FF:GTA. Squenix must have seen how huge GTA had gotten, so they decided to copy it. (FFX was mid 2001, GTA3 late 2001, FFX-2 early 2003) So rather than having this great linear flowing story line that took you all over the world meeting all of these wonderful characters they dropped 3 women in a car or something hub and let you pick missions at random to do. And after several of those you could pick the final boss mission. Woefully underprepared for it, but you could pick it.
It wasn't a Final Fantasy game AT ALL. I'm pretty sure at that point I had played all of them, 1-10, and FFX-2 was nothing like any of them. Sure, you want to say it had a job class w/ different clothes, fine, but the mission based system is not how FF games had played before that.
But I'm not one of those haters who doesn't like something just b/c it's different, Starfox Adventures is my favorite Starfox game, Sonic Adventure is my favorite Sonic game, but I just found nothing to like in FFX-2 b/c it was nothing like FFX.
Also, if FFX-2 released today I'm pretty sure it would be a $15 "episode" like FFXV is getting. And that would be fine. But they sold and promoted it as a full $50 new game, and it really wasn't.
If I played it today for the first time I suppose it's possible I could enjoy it, if it was sold for $19.99 and titled "3 Girls on 30 Missions", but not as an FF game, b/c it isn't an FF game. Well ok it wasn't an FF game at the time, after FFXV I suppose anything goes. 😛
@SwitchForce Why are people on this site so hung up on the “physical vs download” thing? I go to a bunch of different sites and no one else cares that 20 dollar shovel ware comes on download instead of cartridge these days.
I understand buying physical on the “real” games for storage reasons and trade in value,but how many games on this list would that be applicable to?
@JaxonH I never finished (just wasn't as good)
I got to the final boss first chance I could and was demolished. I suppose it would be the same as going to fight Ganon as soon as you could in BotW but this was 15 years earlier so I didn't know that.
@Wraggadam1 Never played Lighting returns, FFXIII was too bad to play another one. And it was also about a decade later so that wouldn't have helped my impressions of FFX-2 any anyway.
You can see my further explanation for my disappointment in post #68 above.
@rxchrisg Just take a look around eShop are now becoming Physical if you haven't seen. Physical isn't just for that one person but if you don't play it anymore you can sell to recoup money back or just give to family if they want to play it without having to buy another one. That is the selling point to give away if you don't want it anymore. Digital your stuck with it regardless of how cheap it is for life. No giveaway or resell value that's why most eShop are cheap to start with it's not just cheap to buy you have no options to offload it.
@rjejr "You can see my further explanation for my disappointment in post #68 above."
Post #68...wow someone is seeing the future I am at Post #64.
Well I'll be dammed...when I posted it showed a different number listing.
@SwitchForce "wow someone is seeing the future I am at Post #64."
Wow, you must have ignored a lot of people, the post you wrote that is #73. I haven't ignored anyone so I'm assuming my numbering is correct, or at least more correct than yours. 😉
If you are trying to be funny, I do get it. 😃
@VHSGLITCH No idea - But DMC-5 is coming out next week and only $39 on PC
https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/devil-may-cry-5-pc-steam-cd-key
@Agramonte veddeh naice. (Borat voice) too bad I don’t have PC. 😂
@Wavey84
I completely understand your point of view. For someone like you who already played most of those titles, and on top of that also doesn’t care much for gaming on a handheld device, it’s probably not that exciting. I completely respect that because I know there’s plenty of people out there who fall into that category.
As for me personally, I missed practically every single one of these games last generation. These are all like brand new AAA titles on a handheld, for me (and I imagine quite a few others given how well third-party games are selling on the system). I played some of Assassins Creed 3 on Wii U, and some of Liberations on Vita, but I never really got too far in them. For whatever reason I got distracted and played something else. I played some Dragons Dogma on the Win 2, but not too much. So not only will this be an opportunity for me to experience those games, it’s exciting because, for example, this is the biggest Assassins Creed game to release portably, and the first in HD on a portable. It’s the first version of Final Fantasy XII on a handheld. It’s the first hybrid version of FFX, my fave JRPG of all time (which I first experienced on Vita).
I never really spend time outside, but if I did I probably wouldn’t want to game outside. Most of my time spent playing in handheld mode is done 1 at work on the weekends in the office 2 at my brother’s house when I visit (and I don’t necessarily play in handheld mode there, I also dock it in his Switch Dock and play on the TV in his lounge room. But it’s thanks to the portability of the system that I’m able to bring it over there and dock it on the TV 3 playing curled up in the recliner, because the experience just feels more personal when you’re gaming on a handheld.
I’ve always been a huge handheld gaming fan. Bought GameBoy, GBA, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita and I even have a GPD Win 2, which if you don’t know what it is you should Google it. It’s a clamshell Windows 10 PC based handheld with 720p screen, dual analog, Dpad, 4 face buttons, 3 shoulder buttons per side and querty keyboard built in, that can run Dolphin for GameCube and Wii games in HD, any 7th gen game on medium to max settings and quite a few current gen games too (DOOM runs better than on Switch at higher res).
I still like gaming on the TV though. Quite a bit. I just don’t like being bound to it without the option to take it with me when need be. So for me, all these games are not only brand new AAA titles, they are brand new AAA titles on an HD hybrid handheld home console that gives me both TV play and HD handheld play and proper portable console gaming via tabletop with detached controllers, and that’s just such an awesome value proposition that I go nuts buying up all these classics for my Switch. For someone like you though, I suppose having multiple consoles would be beneficial, so that you can just drop in and play the Switch whenever a new exclusive hits.
Nope! None of those! And I'll leave yoshi for the kids!
Kirby's epic yarn for 3ds?
Why does Alex pronounce Yoshi like “Yahhshi”...lol. But yeah I’m definitely buying that one.
@nhSnork can you give a lowdown on the series? I gather it's a side game? Should I get one of the main games first? Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland, maybe? Or Atelier Lydie & Suelle? I'd like to get into the series, but I'm completely lost on where I should start on Switch.
@pinta_vodki well, I'm only getting into the series myself, so I have quite outermost knowledge and advice to offer. And as someone preferring to go through mainline games in order, I'd rather not start with the Switch ones myself - what we currently have is the last game in the seventh "arc" and a full trilogy (and soon to be tetralogy this spring) that represents the fifth one. And while "arcs" contain games with mostly separate stories, there are usually enough connections, continuity and recurring characters within them to discourage jumping ahead.
To clarify, Lydie & Suelle are the third entry in Mysterious arc. If you're interested and have access, the previous two (Sophie and Firis) can be found on PS4, Vita and Steam.
Arland arc is Rorona → Totori →Meruru (in terms of continuity; release-wise, Rorona came out last as the prequel). Atelier Lulua is the new and fourth Arland game that stars Rorona's daughter, so it obviously doesn't sound like a starting chapter. XD
Nelke? The reason I'm getting it myself is because it's an all-stars anniversary spinoff gathering the many franchise protagonists in a separate world and has notably different gameplay mechanics with the focus on town development. So I can get the taste of many trademark things about the series cast and lore and still save the experience of the core gameplay evolution for when I play the mainline games. You decide if such an option sounds suitable for you.
And last but most, if you're curious about earlier arcs and a series lowdown, you may as well check the reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Atelier/comments/5hvb4c/just_what_is_an_atelier_and_where_do_i_start_a/ Like all obviously opinionated fan community accounts, it's wise to take with a grain of salt (and it's two years old by now as well, so no Switch stuff there - in, and Marie/Ellie PS2 fan translation is already done), but there are plenty of informative bits nonetheless. Hopefully it can help you more than my noob blabbering.
@rjejr Not all FF are as completely linear as X. It's one of the most linear, even more than XIII. So X-2 being non-linear doesn't make it un-FF. It's also ridiculous to compare it to GTA since loads of RPGs were open way before GTA1, let alone GTA3.
Yoshi, Xenon Racer:)
@ieatdragonz
I played before Unravel on Xbox one,and I loved it! so it's a very good notice!
Only ff7 for me the rest are average at best
@JaxonH it’s not gatekeeping,it’s why am I supposed to be excited about something I’ve already played? If you don’t have a PS4 (or don’t have a friend with one) then it’s new to you,but those of us who have one aren’t going to be wowed by seeing the same thing twice.
@rxchrisg
I’m not saying you should personally be excited for it. A lot of people make the mistake of treating everyone on the planet as the same person with the same mindset with the same interests who want the same games, and who’ve all played the same games.
If you’ve already played the games and have no interest then by all means, don’t be interested. But don’t then project that onto everyone else as if they shouldn’t be interested and as if it’s an affront to bring the games over just because you’re not interested.
I have PS4, X1, PC, Vita, 3DS, Wii U, VR, Switch, and yet I still haven’t played every single game on the planet that’s ever released. And even if I have played a particular game, that doesn’t mean I’m not going to be excited for it on Switch. The problem is people who try to downplay games releasing just because they personally aren’t interested for one reason or another. If that’s you, all you have to say is that you personally aren’t interested for reasons XYZ. There’s no need to try to mock those games releasing and downplay the excitement others have, as if it’s not legitimate.
@Matroska Lots of JRPG may have been open, but FFX wasn't, and FFX-2 wasn't called FF11 or FF12, it was called FFX-2, so you would think it would have some resemblance to FFX, but it isn't really a sequel, as the name would imply, any more than Pokemon Trozei is a sequel to Pokemon Black and White.
Nobody mistakes Final Fantasy Tactics for a numbered FF game. FF Tactics is FF Tactics. And you could never convince me that the mission structure found in FFX-2 was not related in any way to the success of GTA3 which released between FFX and FFX-2. Their may be valid reasons for that argument - FFX-2 was made in the east, GTA3 in the west, but I'm still not believing it. Had they come out the same time, I 'd believe it was a coincidence, but not 2 years later after GTA3 and it's mission based game play were all the rage.
@sandman89 Should be arriving within the next day or so. Looking forward to it!
@VR32X Thanks for the recommendation!
@Kwehst Thanks, hoping I enjoy the series!
