Freakin' finally! Can't wait to play the brilliance of Castlevania IV on the go!
It’s about time the NES Contra is available. I’d pay double for these as physical releases, however.
I’m interested to see what the four “Coming Soon” spots are on Castlevania and Contra collections.
Interesting. I am down for the Castlevainia collection!
THIS I LIKE! Yes please! I hope other companies start following suit! If Nintendo isn't gonna bring back VC, but we start getting collections like these, that would work for me! (Still seems less effecient that the VC style of having an emulator and dropping the roms, but oh well, dead horse)
I'll bet getting these, and I hope other companies, even Nintendo itself, follow suit!
Imagine a Pokemon Game Boy Collection, Or a SNES Final Fantasy Collection! GBA Fire Emblem or Advance Wars! Or the possibilities!
I cannot wait for this.
Haunted Castle is so damn hard. And I still cant wait. I want. Now. Gimme now. I don't know how to words. Make me stop! Excite!
I hope these get physical releases
Finally! Please come physically as well...
Edit: doh I should read. “Digital exclusive.”
@AlohaPizzaJack
Doubtfully anything from SotN or later. If they included some GBA castlevanias... oh man. I'd buy a million of 'em.
I hope Bloodlines is in the Castlevania collection.
....is it REALLY asking much to see Sunset Riders get any kind of rerelease? I get it, most of their 4 player beat em up arcade games were based on IPs but sure the one original one can get some kind of rerelease right?
Just saddens me to see them do Sunset Riders merch but no way to play the arcade original on anything modern.....
Konami, where is Dance Dance Revolution A20 for Nintendo Switch ?
No metal gear though, Konami? ; )
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon please.
Take my money
I will be buying all 3!
Ok, now this is cool. I notice there’s no Simon’s Quest and although I personally think it’s just too obtuse to play anymore, it’s still a bit of gaming history. I hope to see Symphony of the Night and the PC Engine Rondo of Blood but honestly I’d love Aria of Sorrow or one of the DS games. They were seriously good.
There's 8 contra titles and the 8th game in the series is shattered soldier (one of my all time favorite games) please konami ;w;
@nessisonett I hope Simon's Quest makes the cut. It is still fun to me, and the Flame Whip is always cool!
@Heavyarms55 Once they're done with the release and hype period for Three Houses, I hope Intelligent Systems takes note of the positive reception of Wargroove and releases the entire Advance Wars collection.
Hoping for Rondo of Blood and Bloodlines to be among the remaining ones, and for the other two to be something other than the N64 titles.
Hmm, half the CV and Contra collections are under wraps... Let's speculate~
Castlevania-- Vampire Killer (the MSX game), Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, The Adventure ReBirth
Contra — Operation C, Hard Corps, 4, ReBirth
Also, here's hoping a Gradius collection is not far behind.
This is some great news!
I hope we get Castlevania SoTN and the GBA/DS games in the Konami Collection as unlockable titles as well!
Day 1 for all of these! While I have not liked Konami's decisions the past few years this is a step in the right direction. Metal Gear collection next please?
Yes should had done this earlier, now let's all hope that these had physical release at some point. I hope the remaining 4 Castlevania games are these: Bloodline, Rondo, Dracula X, and Rebirth. The remaining Contra games could be these: Contra Force, Contra: Hard Corps, Operation C, and Contra 4.
Contra Hard Corps is a must! It is the most perfected entry in the series.
@ReaderRagfihs what is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!
Sad that it says that the Castlevania collection is celebrating the games origins. To me that means we won't be getting any of the metroidvania titles which is why I love the series so much. I'll still hold out hope though.
Welp there goes Contra and Castlevania for NES Online. But excited nonetheless. I'm hoping the emulation is solid and the input delay is minimal
Nice to see these Anniversary collections finally materialize; they all look promising. Still hate to see Frogger omitted, though.
Now if they get enough support for these, might Konami do us a real favor and release a Suikoden/Vandal Hearts collection?
Seriously, what do we think those other 4 Castlevania titles are? Im hoping at least one of the GBA/DS games make it in. Id love a collection of all those titles as that was my favorite era of Castlevania.
Im thinking Bloodlines is in for sure. They wouldnt put Rondo or symphony in though right? Since those were already in their own exclusive to Playstation collection?
YES!!! PLEASE BLOODLINES!!!
@pigwarts5ever its weird that it says "first Konami Castlevania collection", implying there might be another. Possibly one that covers Metroidvania titles.
I’m on board for the Contra collection.
I’ll pay upwards of $100 for a MGS 1-4 Collection, Konami!
@AlohaPizzaJack Probably for the other Nintendo titles like Dawn of Sorrow or Order of Ecclesia/
@Hordak only it isn't... that's the arcade version.
Liam, any info on why NES Contra has never been VC'd or rereleased outside the early PC collection and Contra 4?
What if the castlevania collection other games were. SOTN, bloodlines, and Rondo????? And for 20$? Best collection EVER
Whats Super C? Im looking at the Contra wikipedia page and it doesnt show it. This collection has both a Super Castlevania and a Super C?
I wonder if these will inculde the rebirth games.
@Hordak did you see the picture? It’s the god awful arcade version!!!
I hope that Simon's Quest and Dracula X are not some of the unnanounced titles. Give us Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow!
@retro_player_22 I hope they include both Castlevania and Contra Rebirth games
My guess is there will probably be physical releases later, but they’re gonna make as much money as possible on digital first before even hinting at physical.
I'll probably get Anniversary Classics just to see how "bad" Haunted Castle is.
Castlevania Collections looks cool, but why Belmont's Revenge replaces Simon's Quest is beyond me. Sure, the latter had issues at the time for its cryptic puzzles, but we have the internet to thank for that.
Contra...maybe.
This isn’t the Konami franchise I really want, but maybe if this does well we’ll see Metal Gear on Switch
@Hordak it looks like they are using the arcade version, not the nes one which is just a tragedy. But overall i can’t wait for all of this!!!
There you go Konami, NOW you're playing ball! I've been waiting so long to play Nemesis, AJax, and Super Contra. I hope these are arcade perfect.
🥳 Yeah ! Great news.
@Tsuchinoko Super C is Super Contra for NES (or Probotector 2). The Super Contra listed as "Super Contra" is the arcade version of the second game in the series.
There are going to be some people curious why Simon’s Quest is absent though. It’s a controversial title but it does have its share of fans.
Castlevania. In my veins. Now.
@Claude OMG and Advance Wars collection would be a dream!
@NotTelevision What if it's not missing, what if it just hadn't gotten announce.
Would love a physical release of the Castlevania collection, but as that probably won't happen, I'll get it digital if the price is right.
@Itsacardgame so they're two versions of the same game?
NEEDS SUNSET RIDERS PLZ!
Question I'm not seeing answered yet. Will the castlevania collection be $20 as well?
@nintendobynature thats... the implication.
Niiiice!
For $2.50 per game I’m not going to complain no matter what they include on these...I just hope they sell well enough to keep making them!
Excited but going to wait and see what they announce for all the regions. For example, the Asian region and Japan often get physical editions of these collections. I'm very interested in this but I hope I can get them physically. Glad to see Konami doing this for fans.
@Tsuchinoko cool, I just figured it would be hiked up in price considering youre getting 8 castlevania games for $20. It just doesn't seem fair 🤑
YESSS!!! Suddenly I'm not so upset about missing out on Castlevania Requiem Collection. While it's sad that SotN and RoB likely won't show up on this collection, Rondo still being my all-time favorite in the series, I'm pretty sure Bloodlines will be included so that is fair. Since they skipped Simon's Quest, hopefully one of the 8 games is not Castlevania 64. Maybe they will replace Rondo of Blood with Vampire X from SNES and at least one of the metroidvania games from the GBA/DS line will have to be represented.
I'm not sure what else they COULD do with Contra, all of the 'good' ones are revealed save for Contra 4 which was a DS game. Porting the PS1 games would feel like a waste, but what else are they going to put up?
@AshFoxX Contra 4 is maybe a stretch but it'd be great if it was incuded. I never played it but i heard it got great reviews.
Im thinking both the Rebirth games are likely.
The WiiWare Rebirth Contra and Castlevania games ought to be included.
Oh my god, I am so buying those Castlevania and Contra collections. I've been waiting for support like this from them. They may be a dysfunctional mess now, but they're sitting on a veritable gold mine of classic games. Why not monetize those?
It'd be really cool if Contra Hard Corps was one of the mystery games.
@Tsuchinoko Contra 4 is probably my favorite game in the series. And the amazing thing is that it wasn't even developed by Konami. WayForward developed it.
One of my biggest gaming regrets is never getting into the Castlevania series despite enjoying its music for years. Time to remedy that!
No Road Fighter arcade in the arcade collection?!, oh please, please Konami, Road Fighter arcade version, please!!
Omg! I think I just filled the cup!
😧
Shouldn't Haunted Castle be in the Castlevania Collection instead of Arcade Collection?
I’m very happy that Konami FINALLY got off their ass and opened their retro treasure chest! All 3 Collections will be Day 1! Now...having said that why the hell would they limit this to 3 Collections?? Especially the arcade Collection of only 8 games when Konami has dozens and dozens of classic arcade games in their vault?? THAT particular collection should’ve been way larger! And why do they always seem to choose Scramble over Super Cobra Which is IMO the superior game? And Where’s Frogger? Where’s Pooyan? Time Pilot?? And imo Haunted Castle belongs in the Castlevania Collection no??? Oh well ...still is good news just the same - just don’t make us wait another 50 years for more guys!
Glad to see that the Castlevania Collection isn't PlayStation exclusive like SotN/RoB.
Praying for Contra shattered soldiers.
Maybe just maybe, Konami is on their way back. These are day one purchases for me.
I'd pay 20€ for Contra: Hard Corps alone. It's about time they rerelease it in some form. I hope Contra 4 is included as well. I never played it since it didn't come to Europe. I will get it someday even if it isn't in the collection.
looking at the origin series, and the fact that there are four empty slots, it would have to draw from the following:
-Castlevania Adventure
-Castlevania II
-Dracula X (SNES)
-Rondo of Blood
-Bloodlines
-Castlevania Legends
.....chances are high that we may FINALLY be seeing a rerelease of Bloodlines! Fingers crossed!
Simon's Quest deserves to be included. It's an NES game--what's the harm in adding it?
@Tsuchinoko yeah... unfortunately. If it was like SNK collection, that would be fine, but the arcade versions are just not as tight and remembered as the NES versions. The arcade versions are bloated with repeating stages.
@NerdyBoutKirby
Don’t worry, they will. With four titles left to reveal, their choices are pretty limited.
@Angelic_Lapras_King one of my all time favorite games!! I’d love to see sunset riders on Switch!
Well done Konami! If you can't make new games anymore then I very much appreciate making the older games more readily available at the very least. I'm quite happy with this.
Will be getting the Castlevania and Arcade collection for sure, not really into Contra myself.
Suikoden collection next?
I kinda wish it was physical but this is pretty suh-weet news!
@Tsuchinoko Its a Contra game on the NES.
@joey302
I'd love for them to trot out Hudson Softs titles while they're at it.
@techdude while it is an arcade game I said the same exact thing right below you lol - I’d rather see another arcade game in its place but it seems that each collection is limited to 8 titles for some strange reason.
@Tempestryke would love to see that! And a Big selection on the T16 titles too!
@subpopz Yeah, I noticed that. A shame...
Agreed, day one for all.
@joey302 yeees
@Wavey84
Tell me if Dance Dance Revolution is niche.
Can you even pass that song ??
Nice, I’m getting all of these.
Hopefully, SOTN is included in The Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
You know, so many companies are releasing these "Classics Collections" these days. It makes me wonder if Virtual Console was nixed by these other company's plans to get into the nostalgia business
These are much wanted collections! I love how excitement over these releases immediately gets people excited about other possible future collections. Metal Gear Solid, Gradius(including the awesome PS2 game that I think Treasure developed), Salamander, Suikoden, and Parodius would all make great collections. It would be pretty mind blowing to have all those Metal Gear games that are on PS3 released on Switch and running at 60fps in handheld mode! And seriously, please release a Parodius collection. Those games are a blast and are among the best shooters ever released!
Fingers crossed for the Sorrows and probotector games!
No physical = no buy.
BUT, the Australian ratings board already let the Castlevania collection slip. Perhaps it doesn't work like the ESRB (as in, they only rate physical games) but I have a feeling these collections will eventually get retail releases.
Why can’t they announce all the titles now?
It's about time Konami.
Shouldn’t Haunted Castle be in the Castlevania collection?
I’m assuming the unconfirmed Castlevania games will be the other 4 NES/GB/SNES games, though Bloodlines and Symphony of the Night would be great.
I am not that interested in the oldest Castlevanias. I want Rondo of blood, Symphony of the night, Aria of sorrow, Harmony of dissonance, Dawn of sorrow and Order of Ecclesia! Make it happen, KOnami, OK? Thanks
Oh, what I would give for Sunset Riders...
Now that is the best news I have woken up to in a long time!
AWESOME!
Any takers that Contra Rebirth and Castlevania Rebirth are among the hidden games?
@GrailUK I was just about to say the same thing.I read it as I took my first sip of coffee. Great news.
I think the other 4 Castlevania games will be
Bloodlines, Dracula X, Rondo of Blood and the Wiiware Castlevania Rebirth.
Castlevania is the main event here for me, and the biggest intrigue at that: will they add the Metroidvanias or fill out the remaining slots with the traditional entries? There are still Simon's Quest (albeit ironically a metroidvania in its own right), Adventure, Legends and Bloodlines; Rondo of Blood might be sticking to those Dracula X Chronicles and Requiem bundles these days.
@OorWullie Aye, I would be surprised if they release SotN and Rondo again on PS4. I'm braced for GBA games.
Too bad we will not have physical edition but I guess I have to buy it … ughhh … digitally!
(I do hope Contra has tate mode btw. If it's handled by Hamster, I'm sure it will.)
This is the Konami right? The “sorry we had to cancel Silent Hills folks, we thought it was a good idea around the same time we lost our F***ING MINDS!! Here have a Pachinko Machine instead!” Konami? Either they’re banking on the Nostalgia Dollar or there was a higher up workplace massacre that took place under the radar.
Still gonna grab all 3. Do hope a Gradius Collection makes its way. Technically there already is one for PSP but needs additions like Gradius V.
@ilikeike Actually it is not hard to play it on the PSP
Awesome I can't wait 😁😁😁😁😁
What is a collection? A miserable little pile of games!
Interesting, they skip Castlevania 2 on NES and instead chose Castlevania 2 on GB...
If the rumors are true, the Castlevania collection will also include Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night and Harmony of Despair.
Let's wait an see
eShop Clasification? Where's physical?
Google have just killed the physical market with their "new way of gaming" havent they?
Great collections!
However, Goemon is nowhere to be seen...
Haunted Castle isn't great. I played the PlayStation 2 port and it was a mess. Any fans of the Castlevania series who want to try it should not expect a good game... but feel free to try it anyway, since it's kind of different from the other classic vanias.
Ok.... Konami making good decisions again but cmon let’s announce the physical please....
Looks like we're finally getting SNES games on the Switch. I'm buying all of these.
These look fantastic and nicely priced. Haunted Castle is brutal... but it's intriguing to see the early version of what became Castlevania. Props to them for putting a Gameboy title in there, Capcom continues to neglect its portable entries in Mega Man comps. Definitely grabbing the CV and Contra bundles
@EarthboundBenjy Agreed, it's needlessly frustrating. Awful controls and high difficulty. Would love to see Kid Dracula appear on the CV compilation, it's a wonderful Konami parody of the franchise
I hope Adventure Rebirth is one of the yet-to-be-revealed games - as it currently stands, that game is lost to the mists of time, since it was WiiWare exclusive.
The Castlevania thing feels like a tease where we all dream of getting SoTN and/or the GBA titles. In reality I don't think they'll give us those in a collection like this and will keep them separate to get top buck for them.
Still, this is great news.
Good idea, but a mistake regarding to digital only policy. Being only digital I'll wait for a price drop and get it for Xbox One for the achievements and the better price (in digital games it's always a fact).
This might be a good year to get into the Castlevania series for the first time.
these look great, wonder what it will be like playing a game boy game on the switch. while im no huge castlevania fan I like the look of getting 8 games in the package. seems obvious 1 of the games will be castlevania 2, no way they would include the 3rd one and not the 2nd
That's a good start, but unless the Castlevania Collection needs to include games from Symphony of the Night onwards. The very old stuff is good but that's not what we're waiting for.
I want this so much
I think Konami can achieve world peace and set right the universe by releasing Sunset Riders, The Simpsons Arcade, and all the classic Ninja Turtles games.
Reading these comments makes it sound like there's about a thousand different Contra games and that each one of them is legendary. And here I am never having tried any of them. Sux to be me I guess. I hope the mystery games are included and not additional purchase DLC.
I'm interested but I'm going to hold out for a (complete) physical release. Hopefully Legends, Rondo, Bloodlines and Rebirth will be added although I don't know what is preventing them from a complete Castevania collection. Maybe a vol 2, 3 etc?
Okay, I'm interested! Have only played Super Castlevania IV on Wii VC, so this is great way to experience some more classics.
Will these be getting a physical release?
Hoping for more modern Castlevania like a Lords of Shadow Collection.
I hope Symphony of the Night, Aria/Down of Sorrow, and Order of Ecclesia will be there!
I´d buy it in a heartbeat.
@Anti-Matter good grief, you’re an annoying sort.
What about a Rebirth Collection with all three of the three Wiiware titles...
I want Russian Attack! I sadly never beat it
So I'm guessing these aren't going to be in the NES service?
I will definitely want that Contra collection, maybe Castlevania (LOL that Simon's Quest is omitted).
Are there any Namco games in the service? Because I would love for Battle City to appear in it.
Damn it, Konami.
Time Pilot? Gyruss? Xexex? Green Beret?
@gcunit
And from 140+ comments so far, NOBODY was talking about Dance Dance Revolution series except ME since i am a HUGE FAN of Dance Dance Revolution games from Konami.
This news just made my morning! There were rumblings of a Castlevania collection before but nothing came of it. I'll gladly buy all three of these.
@Anti-Matter Dance Dance Revolution games are probably the healthiest video games to play. It's good exercise. 😁
I'm actually looking forward to playing Belmonts Revenge again, reminds me of when I was a kid.
What happens to konamis relationship with aca hamster? And I should assume these games won't be appearing on Nintendos online service.
Well defo getting the castlevania collection.
Oh, i remember one thing.
When is Hyper Sports R (Switch) will be released ?
I'm waiting your answer, Konami....
Unless they add some of the metroidvania ones I am not interested but still the best thing from Konami since MGS V...
Well I'm game for both
@AlohaPizzaJack paid DLC
I'll probably get all of these...I really hope one of the coming soon slots on the Castlevania collection is Rondo of Blood. Also Symphony of the Night. Fingers crossed!
@AshFoxX Y'know...Contra 4 is a tough one due to its duel screen gameplay, but the dimensions of the Switch screen are such that I think the experience could be recreated in tate mode. That could be interesting. Of course they could also just shrink it down to fit on the screen horizontally.
I was expecting lords of Shadow but that’s even better, but then would the same NES games come to the NES online??
@AlohaPizzaJack let's hope they add Rondo of blood, Symphony of the night, Bloodlines,...
amazing news! These games will be looking amazing on the Switch
its amazing how Sega, Capcom, and even Konami do a better job of making their history available to gamers, compared to how utterly Nintendo has failed on the Switch to do so
@Mando44646 Id say it is surprising
I'll take them all thank you good bye.
Good thing I bought a 120GB microSD Card for the Switch. I'm concerned about the space these games'll take up.
There’s no way the DS Castlevania will be on this since those games were made for using 2 screens.
This will obviously be the re-release of the re-birth games, which is fantastic. Interested to see what the oher Contra's are.
@SamuraiPanda Japan will get involved on this i am certain.
IF they add more games to the Castlevania collection (and I'm not 100% sure they will, despite the popular assumptions), I actually hope that Castlevania X68K is one of them. It's different enough from the NES version to warrant it, IMO.
I'll get the Contra collection day 1.
Might wait for a sale on Castlevania Collection (Bloodstained Curse of the Moon can tide me over)
No need for the Arcade collection. Not that nostalgic for their arcade versions.
My guess is at least 2 gba titles: Circle of the moon and Aria of sorrow. Who knows maybe harmony of dissonance as well, which is a little more obscure.
Dracula X is a pretty safe bet i think.
Maybe another gameboy title since there are 3 of those in total as well.
@Anti-Matter that’s how niche it is. Your the only one that commented on wanting DDR. There’s your answer. It’s niche
I’ve never played Castlevania Bloodlines before so I really hope it gets added as one of the four unannounced titles!
What’s Super Contra? I don’t remember that one...was it an SNES release?
Wow Konami actually got this right! I guess good things can happen in this world. Only way it would be better is if there was a physical release too, but that's ok, I'll take it. I think these will sell extremely well. Good job Konami.
Wonderful, I haven't had the opportunity to play these games yet! Love the accessibility of the switch. Hope they have symphony of the night, it would a strange exclusion to keep that game away from the switch. Especially with Ritcher and Alucard appearing in Smash Ultimate.
I know it will NEVER happen, but I'd love some collections like this for Konami's liscensed output! The NES and SNES TMNT games and their Warner Bros animation games with Tiny Toons, Animaniacs and the Batman and Robin game!
@Anti-Matter "And from 140+ comments so far, NOBODY was talking about Dance Dance Revolution series except ME since i am a HUGE FAN of Dance Dance Revolution games from Konami."
Probably because almost NOBODY is interested in those games?
Would be nice if Konami added the Sharp x68000, Megadrive, Pc Engine, versions of Castlevania:)
Gryzor how do I love thee let me count the ways 💐
@Anti-Matter
With all due respect, maybe that has more to do with the fact that nowhere in the article is DDR even mentioned? You'll notice that almost all of the comments pertain to Castlevania and Contra. I wonder why.
Anyway......
I can't help but wonder why people would want Adventure Rebirth--an average remake of a below average game-- over Bloodlines, which was a fantastic game that, though not as good as Super Castlevania IV, more than held it's own!
@Angelic_Lapras_King I'm hoping they'll throw it on the Contra collection. It pretty much was a Wild West Contra. I'd be happy with the arcade or SNES version.
@Anti-Matter no idea what the state of the series is in your country, but sadly in the US it’s pretty dead. I’ve tried multiple times to find DDR A machines at any arcades within reasonable distance from me but the closest one to my location is several hours away in Canada. The arcades around that do have dance games have Pump It Up, which I hate. I miss the lates 90s and 2000s when it was everywhere, was one of my favorite games, but at this point if you want to play your only real option is to dig out an old console release or use Stepmania.
I doubt Konami has interest in releasing more DDR games anytime soon, the series lost a lot of popularity in the past decade and dropped from mainstream. And most of the later versions had awful songlists...
Tried Contra on my SNES Classic and didn’t like it, and the arcade collection doesn’t catch my eye either, but 8 Castlevania game for $20??? I’m very curious what the other 4 games are but at this point they’d have to intentionally mess it up there, I doubt it would be any of the 3D ones for example... having these games on the go? Yes please!
Shut up and take my f***ing money! I want all of it. Oh you beautiful company...
(You used some not so lovely language - Matthew010)
@Claude I would’ve said “...and NOTHING other than the N64 titles”
Yeah they might not have aged very well but man I’d love to play those again on new hardware/switch in portable. They were seriously so much fun to me. In fact those and symphony were what got me into castlevania in the first place.
@Zuljaras Well, considering I don't own a PSP it's actually a bit difficult for me to play it that way
@ilikeike Ever heard of a SupaBoy?
After the Megadrive Collection, I’d prefer if these were all on one compilation at a reasonable price.
@ShadJV
In my hometown Surabaya, there are DDR A Asian Arcade, DDR X2 USA Arcade, DDR X Japan Arcade and DDR MAX 2 Japan Arcade left.
I still play DDR X2 Arcade oftenly on TimeZone Game center and still playing DDR until now for more than 15 years experience.
Btw, i found from Konami Twitter, they will release DDR A20 Arcade (20th Anniversary DDR), DDR A and Sound Voltex on mobile including DDR plastic and Metal pad again for mobile.
If Konami Reconsider DDR for mobile, maybe they will reconsider DDR for Nintendo Switch.
Note: I hate that 5 panel dancing machine also. I only play DDR until today.
I'll probably get the Castlevania and Contra collections. I'll pass on the arcade collection though.
They should Include Simon's Quest! I know it is not popular but it is a very special game! And it was ahead of its time!
This is cool, but I wonder if this means we won't see any Castlevania or Contra games on the Switch NES app?
No physical no buy. Shame.
come on tmnt!? really want to play turtles in time again...
Konami website list the Castlevania Collection as "The first Konami Castlevania Collection..." So a second and a third collection is a possibility... Castlevania series has enough games to fill numerous collections, I'll buy them all in a heartbeat. Hope it will come true.
Man, why no one shows love for Castlevania 64? I hope it enters the collection!
@sevex This is the reason why those Castlevania games weren't released on the Switch NES app.
I have the NES Castlevanias & the SNES Castlevanias on my NES and SNES Classic consoles respectively so I won't be double-dipping.
@ilikeike Ya, it is my favorite game of all time, and while I have it and pretty much every Castlevania on my tablet it will still be awesome to have them in a compilation on switch.
I've been bemoaning Konami for years about not bringing their classic games, so I'm super excited for these. The arcade Gradius series are my all-time favorite shmups, so it'll be a day one purchase.
It seems a little odd not to have Haunted Castle in the Castlevania collection though, as even though it wasn't branded as such in the west it is really a Castlevania arcade game. Still I'm going to get both collections anyway (probably skip Contra though), so it doesn't matter.
It depends on what gets added to the Castlevania and Contra collections for me. Honestly, if some of the DS/3DS and obviously Symphony of the Night aren't added, it would be a hard pass for me. I already own many versions of the early Castlevania games, I don't think I need more of those. However, I only own the SotN on the Xbox and I no longer have copies of the DS/3DS games.
In general, I'm not sure what else can be added to Contra. The only game I can think of is Hard Core.
@Anti-Matter I would buy a DDR collection or reboot if it came with quality pads for home play. I would buy it without even thinking about it!!!
I miss playing that game with my wife. Probably the only video game she's ever been invested in. Now I have kids and they've missed out on this. All they really know is the wii waggle dance games.
If those games are just emulated without remastering, i will not be interrested in... I would prefer a new Castlevania 2D like the excellent Megaman 11!
I've been waiting patiently for Konami to bring Castlevania and Metal Gear to Switch. One down. With the support this is bound to get, I would love a GBA and DS Castlevania collection. I don't understand why they haven't ported over the Metal Gear Solid collection yet. There's so many games I want them to port over. This is a good start.
I hope 2 of the 4 coming soon on Castelvania are metroidvania's. It is a bit disappointing missing out on Castlevania 2 that's my favorite of the original trilogy actually even though it's the odd ball of those 3 in that bunch. I'd especially love to see Castlevania Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclectia on here because I haven't played them in forever whereas I just replayed through SoTN on PS4 when I grabbed Requiem.
I’d like to see a Konami arcade beat em’ up collection in the future.
So given what the Castlevania collection has so far, I'd guess the other 4 are:
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES)
Castlevania: The Adventure (GB)
Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth (WiiWare)
Castlevania Legends (GB)
Give me that Contra collection: But remember Konami, I need Hard Corps, Rebirth, Shattered Soldier, and Contra 4 on that collection.
Physical or nothing.
Konami finally got their heads out of their rear. As much as I'd prefer a physical collection for these, I am definitely not missing these at all. I also cannot wait to see the other Contra and Castlevania games in these collections. A small note, but still with significance, if the Super Nintendo game Super Castlevania 4 will be across all systems, then it stands to chance that Symphony of the Night could appear at last on a Nintendo system. Not a guarantee, just something of note.
"The first Konami Castlevania Collection is designed to be a completed collection around the origins of the historic franchise..."
To me, this suggests that we won't be seeing any of the 'metroidvania' Castlevania games in this collection, but we may see them in some future collection.
If I were to take a guess, or rather, state my hopes as to what the other four games innthis collection could be, then I would suggest:
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Castlevania Bloodlines
Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
A couple of notes about this. Maybe they will include the original Gameboy Castlevania: The Adventure rather than the Rebirth version. If we're looking at multiple collections, then maybe we'll get one dedicated to remakes, in which case, perhaps that would also include stuff like Castlevania Chronicles, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, and, hell, maybe even Dracula X or Vampire Killer. We probably won,t get Haunted Castle since that's on another collection. I know Super Castlevania IV is sort of a remake, but since it's numbered, maybe it doesn,t really count.
So maybe we'll get Castlevania: The Adventure in this collection, or maybe we'll get the rebirth version. Maybe we'll get neither. Who knows?
Regarding, Rondo of Blood. Obviously I'm aware that it's part of the PS4-exclusive 'Requiem' collection along with Symphony of the Night. What I wonder is this. Are the games in the collection actually PS4-exclusive or is it just that particular collection of them that was PS4-exclusive? Could both games still not appear seperately on other platforms in different collections? With ths in mind, could Rondo of Blood still not be one of the four unannounced Castlevania games for this collection?
Also, what about Castlevania Legends?
If there are future collections, I wonder what we would get. I was thinking, maybe a collection of remakes, such as the one I suggested earlier, a collection containing the 3D games from the N64 and PS2, a collection with Symphony of the Night and all the other GBA and DS 'metroidvania' games, a collection of curios, such as Harmony of Despair, Judgement and Encore of the Night, and finally a collection containing the three Lords of Shadow Games.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'll definitely be getting this collectiin. Unfortunately I'm too rubbish to beat any of the old games, but I still have fun playing them. Sadly, it means that much as I love all the lore and history, I can only ever be a fake Castlevania fan.
All of these are going to be awesome, but no mention of TATE mode support for the arcade collection? I hope Konami knows that TATE is a thing on Switch...maybe someone should fill them in.
So this is why we don't get Castlevania games on the NES service...hope they let us re-map keys, display fully 4:3, and maybe even rewind with L. Also TATE mode would be ideal for the arcade titles.
So so psyched!
@Grumblevolcano No chance they'll ever rerelease Legends. Unlike 64/Legacy of Darkness and Circle of the Moon, which got the "side story" label later, Legends is explicitly non-canon, since Lament of Innocence became the TRUE origin of the Belmont bloodline.
Mystical Ninja one next, Konami?
Probably will happen...for Japan
I wouldn't be surprised to see Adventure: Rebirth in the Castlevania collection. It was just recently delisted, and there was a rumor a while back that Konami would be re-releasing it. Also notable: Adventure II is already confirmed for the collection, but the first Adventure (a far inferior game) is lacking.
Aside from that game, I'm also hoping for Simon's Quest (a given), Rondo of Blood, and BLOODLINES.
I dont want contra, i want Probotector
Hopefully the PAL version gets the Probotector games.
I really don't get all the people wanting a physical release as all you get now is a plastic box and a cart!
It's not like before when you got artwork in instruction manuals, flyers and boxes like MEGADRIVE, SNES and N64 games is it?
I'm happy to download both games.
Great to finally get a few Konami classics like Scramble and Vulcan Venture (Gradius II) on the Switch, would love to see Hamster produce more oldies from my youth e.g. Tutankham, Gyruss, Juno First, Track & Field, Hyper Sports, Circus Charlie, Green Beret etc.
Hmm... we heard all those rumors about the Rebirth games getting a new lease on life finally, I'd love to see them fill in spots in the collections.
@Wavey84 or they could go all out and completely ignore shattered soldier since it is a ps2 game and release the two contras on PlayStation that were absolute garbage :'> I'm 100% about hard corps being on this collection though- I'm not too worried about that.
@dkxcalibur Contra Rebirth, Contra Hard Corps, Contra 4 (if retooled properly for one screen)
The concept itself of "Collection" is strongly related to Physical, so..
@ilikeike I've been waiting for some Contra action on Switch ever since they released Nintendo Switch Online! I can't wait to play this game with my brother!
@Heavyarms55 How about a Capcom Anniversary Collection, eh?
@Wavey84 Nah, man....
Throw in Symphony of the Night & Portrait of Ruin
That's a deal!
@Reigestugatensho I'd take that. What would you look for in such a collection?
@Heavyarms55 Sonic Advance Trilogy plz
Can't wait to buy the Metal Gear collection!
…
Oh... right...….
@Heavyarms55 maybe some oldies like
Viewtiful Joe (that's capcom right?)
Capcom Vs. Tatsunoko
Apollo Justice
and perhaps even Marvel Vs. Capcom (the good ones and not the most recent one)
@Reigestugatensho Those titles seem a lot newer than these collections appear to be aimed. Isn't Ventiful Joe a Gamecube title? And if I remember right, the first Marvel Vs Capcom was on 360.
@Wavey84 I see your point.
plus those boss battles were awesome in Dawn of Sorrow!
@Heavyarms55 Oof!
you're right!
Capcom vs. Tastunoko was a wii title (Big borther really liked that one)
was the first Marvel vs. Capcom on 360?
i'm checking this real quick...
@Heavyarms55 The first Marvel Vs. capcom game was
X-men Vs. Street Fighter for Playstation in 1996
I would want this game on Switch!
@Reigestugatensho oh, I had no idea that was the case.
@pigwarts5ever I think at the very least we should get Symphony of the Night. I think that's as far as they'll go until they release a second collection for the later Metroidvanias like Circle of the Moon and the DS Entries. They could even do a 3rd collection just for the 3D Games like Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness and the N64 titles (maybe even Lords of Shadow, but that kinda deserves its own collection being separate from the timeline of OG Castlevania)
@Darkasi Agreed. Time to bring metal gear solid 4 multi-platform
Hm, I have all the castlevania titles on the nes/snes mini as well as the gameboy games. however, i am really excited to see how emulated GB classic games would look like on the switch. this is a huge missed opportunity for nintendo imo...
also for contra i would LOVE to have the probotector versions, maybe you could even switch the models in-game?
Lifeforce is a sick game, worth getting this for....but looking at videos it seems like the NES port has wayyyy more personality to it. Maybe wait for a sale on this one.
