During Nintendo's latest Corporate Management Briefing, the President of the company Shuntaro Furukawa announced Nintendo would be opening a store in Tokyo this fall.
Despite being the homeland of the company, Nintendo Tokyo will unbelievably be the first official Nintendo shop in Japan. It aims to be accessible to a wide range of people and will sell all the usual products you would expect such as Nintendo video game systems, software and merchandise. Just like many other Nintendo stores around the world, it will also host many special events for specific games and systems. It's scheduled to open within Shibuya Parco:
Here's the official announcement from the President:
I would also like to make the first announcement here that we are preparing for opening Nintendo TOKYO, the first official Nintendo shop in Japan. We are hoping it will be a new point of contact between consumers and Nintendo that a wide range of people, regardless of age, gender, or experience with games can enjoy. In addition to selling products such as video game systems, software and character-based merchandise, we plan to host events and offer opportunities to play games, and are preparing to make this shop a new base for communicating Nintendo information in Japan.
Nintendo TOKYO is scheduled to open in SHIBUYA PARCO (building name tentative) in the fall of 2019. We will announce further details on each of these initiatives at a later date.
Are you surprised there wasn't already a Nintendo store in Japan? Will you be making the trip over to Japan to visit it when it opens? Tell us below.

First stop on my next Japan trip. 😁
GoNintendo is reporting that the Nintendo briefing announces a Super Nintendo World London!!
Lemme know when it'll come to Florida (y'know, for convenience sake!)
@sinfield99 I think it may’ve been a mistranslation as there is no universal studios in London. I believe the speaker either misheard or mistranslated Orlando as London.
Fortunately, I live in Tokyo so very excited for this! Surprised it's not in Akiba
Yeah I guess so @MrToad... Heartbreak!
Just in time for my Honeymoon!!
May as well be opening a Nintendo store on the Moon for as likely as I'm ever going to get there. But cool news though...if anyplace should have one it's Tokyo. (Or well probably Kyoto but whateves.)
I am going to Tokyo twice this year... I hope it's open by October for my second trip!
I hope it’s bigger than the one in Korea.
Oh nice! I still haven't even been to the New York store despite living in New York...
Why can't Australia get anything dammit?
I wanna go to Tokyo just for DDR and Nintendo Store !! 🤓
I went to Nintendo NYC and I was beyond happy lol ... Now I'll have to go when the Olympics have passed lol
Cool! I hope they open one in London!
I've always wanted to visit Nintendo NY but crossing the U.S./Canada border has been made so difficult by the current American administration that frankly it's just not worth it. And Japan is really expensive to travel to from Canada. I wish that Nintendo would stop ignoring our country and just lumping it in with America. Open a Nintendo Store in Toronto, it would be ridiculously profitable for them and way more convenient for most Canadians than schlepping to a whole other country.
I'm doing a better job than most market analysts. I predicted the Switch's success back in Feb. 2016! While everyone was selling stocks because they had no confidence. Make sure to buy Nintendo stock right now since it is going to explode when the Tokyo Olympics occurs. Look at the evidence, Nintendo is opening a Tokyo store in the fall of 2019, and the Olympics occurs in 2020. There is going to be a surge in sales! Top that off with Nintendo's recent track record of incredible advertising, and you have a post-Wii U economic miracle. It will wear off after the Olympics, so sell your stocks a day or so before they end. If I wasn't poor right now, then I would have made thousands by now...
