Happy New Year folks, welcome to 2019. Pretty good so far, isn't it? You've probably noticed, but over the past couple of weeks we've done an awful lot of retrospective articles, looking back over the previous year and reminiscing with a cosy feeling of hindsight. Well, that all ends right now; it's time to look forward and get excited for what 2019 will bring us as Nintendo Switch owners.
The outlook is a little foggy right now with only a handful of games having nailed on release dates, but we've also got a number of games with confirmed "2019" release dates on this list along with one or two others that are, frankly, anyone's guess at this point.
Nintendo has been fairly consistent in recent years, only giving us info on games that are coming soon, so you can expect more games to be revealed between now and the summer that you'll actually get your hands on this year.
This isn't an exhaustive list (you can view all upcoming 2019 Nintendo Switch games in another article); instead, this is a handpicked selection by us.
1. Untitled Goose Game (Switch eShop)
Unsurprisingly, you play as a goose in Untitled Goose Game. You must terrorise your local neighbourhood and solve all manner of goose-related puzzles in this hilarious game by House House. Having played preview versions last year at various shows, we think this one has legs and could easily become our number one goose simulator.

2. Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition (Switch)
A series adored by a large section of our readers, Bandai Namco will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Tales of Vesperia and the return of this fan-favourite with the Definitive Edition. This game originally skipped Nintendo platforms and is therefore a welcome return for us at Nintendo Life.
3. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (Switch)
The long-rumoured Crash Team Racing remake was confirmed late last year following the release of Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy on Nintendo Switch. It's another ground-up remake of the classic PSone game and will be released on Switch simultaneously with other platforms. We don't expect it to challenge Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the title, but it should at least be on the podium.
4. Yoshi's Crafted World (Switch)
Good-Feel continues to bring us charming and delightful games in the world of Yoshi and previously Kirby. Their believable aesthetic continues with Yoshi's Crafted World. Whilst we were huge fans of Woolly World, we hope Good-Feel tweaks the difficulty slightly in this one to make it that extra bit special.
5. Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes (Switch)
Whilst this isn't a proper No More Heroes game, its announcement caused quite a stir amongst fans and interest is high. We've got all our fingers crossed that this title will deliver an experience fans crave and will pave the way for more games in the series.
6. Daemon X Machina (Switch)
This unexpected, fast-paced, mech action game from Kenichiro Tsukuda and Marvelous Entertainment was announced during E3 2018. We don't have a fixed date yet, but it's another game that impressed on first inspection and we're eagerly awaiting playing the final build.
7. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch)
Perhaps the ultimate troll of 2018? Nintendo announced Isabelle as a fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and almost left fans hanging on an Animal Crossing tease before finally putting everyone out of their misery, revealing that a mainline Animal Crossing game would be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019. Whenever this game gets released (we're expecting late Summer), you should clear your calendar and cancel all your appointments for a month as you are definitely going to be addicted to this.
8. Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch)
After an excellent sequel on Nintendo 3DS, Luigi's Mansion has been resurrected once more with a third instalment announced for Switch for 2019. We're big fans of both the original, now also on 3DS, and the sequel dubbed 'Dark Moon' and can't wait to dust off our Poltergust 3000s.
9. Pokémon Sword and Shield (Switch)
Ever since the Nintendo Switch was announced fans have been dreaming of the next mainline Pokémon game and, according to Game Freak, 2019 is the year that becomes reality. Now, although it disappointed some, Let's Go in 2018 was a huge success and no doubt has even more people waiting for this entry. There's a slight chance this might slip into 2020, but for now, we're expecting a Q4 2019 launch.
10. Little Town Hero (Switch eShop)
Another Game Freak game announced last year is Town, a brand new RPG where all the action takes place in - you guessed it - a single town. We don't know a lot about this one yet, but from the early video, it appears to be heavily influenced by the company's Pokémon titles, having a similar art style and character style. We're intrigued to see how this one turns out, though, and it's currently scheduled for a 2019 release.
11. Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch)
Fire Emblem returns to consoles with Three Houses for Nintendo Switch. The game is set in a brand new world, Fódlan, along with three main characters Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude. Another popular series amongst our readers and we're expecting big things with this one.
12. Final Fantasy VII (Switch eShop)
Square Enix has announced an avalanche of Final Fantasy remakes coming to Nintendo Switch; if you're a fan of the series you'll be able to fill your SD card with them. Naturally, we've opted for the 1997 classic for this list, but whichever game is your favourite in the series, you'll be able to play it on Switch soon.
13. Bayonetta 3 (Switch)
Bayonetta returns in a third title, exclusively on Nintendo Switch, and requiring no introduction. If you haven't played either of the first two games, what have you been doing? Whilst the game doesn't have an official release window as yet, development has recently been quoted as going "very, very well". It's possible we'll see this in 2019, but don't blame us if it slips into 2020.
14. Pikmin 4 (Switch)
This is where things get a little speculative. Miyamoto-san himself accidentally revealed to Eurogamer that a Pikmin game was "very close to completion" back in 2015. We believe this to either be a mobile game or, more likely, a Pikmin 4 that is now going to appear on Switch. If it is a Switch game, it will most likely appear this year.
15. Metroid Prime 4 (Switch)
Samus, is that you? Okay, so we've only got a working title and logo at this point, but we're so excited for this game we can't not include it on this list. Probably the most speculative of them all, Metroid Prime 4 is confirmed, in development, and on the way. Whether we'll see this in 2019 is a bit of a long shot, but you never know.
Not too bad, Nintendo. There are certainly some games in this list with huge potential, but we also expect a few more to be announced in the coming months.
Which of these games are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below.

Awful hopeful of y'all to put Metroid Prime 4 at the tip of the list.
2019. I’m hyped. Will be great year with great surprises
My favourites on the list are Metroid, Yoshi then Pikmin.
Wasn't the Pikmin game nearing completion Hey! Pikmin on 3DS?
Anyhoo, with or without Pikmin it's looking like a great year already.
I’m will definitely buy:
-New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
-Tales of Vesperia
-Luigi’s Mansion 3
-Resident Evil 4
-Fire Emblem
-Bayonetta 3 (if released this year)
-Metroid Prime 4 (if released this year)
I’m getting hyped (but will wait for more info) for:
-Travis Strikes Again
-Daemon X Machina
Not hyped for yet, but will keep an eye out for:
-Yoshi’s Crafted World
-Pokémon
-Animal Crossing
Will probably also get:
-Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles
-Final Fantasy VII
-Maybe some of the other FF titles
And then there’s of course a lot of other games I will get this year. Looks great so far! If there’s a Pikmin game coming, I will probably get it.
''Naturally, we've opted for the 1997 classic for this list, but whichever game is your favourite in the series, you'll be able to play it on Switch soon.''
FF8 fans am cry.
Anyway, needless to say my most anticipated game here is Yoshi's Crafted World! I loved Woolly World so much and I'm gonna love Crafted World. Other than that, most games on this list I'm at least curious for. Gonna be a good year. <3
Not really FF remakes so much but ports (enhanced ones at that to).
New Super Mario U should be in top 15.
Kinda thought marvel ultimate alliance 3 would have been on the list. Definitely should have been in there, it is a high profile exclusive after all
My Most Anticipated Switch games on 2019 :
1. Animal Crossing Switch
2. Dragon Quest Builders 2 USA version
3. FF XII The Zodiac Age
4. FF X/X-2 HD Remaster
5. FF IX
6. Chocobo Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy
7. World of Final Fantasy Maxima (physical release)
8. Ninjala
9. Youtubers Life OMG edition (physical release)
10. Hyper Sports R
This game is not on Switch yet, but....
If The Sims 4 ULTIMATELY announced for Switch on year 2019, with SAME Contents as PS4, Bwahahaha....!!
I can kiss goodbye to my PS4.
Bayonetta 3, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Crash Team Racing, and Fire Emblem are the ones I’m after on this list. Looking forward to getting Onimusha and a few Resident Evil games as well. Happy New Year.
@Spectra I agree, I pick X for Switch as my most excited, though I never played VII, only played VIII (but didn't finish the last boss) and gave up on IX for whatever reason....
@Sir_funkington right, I forgot about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Surprised it’s not on this list. I definitely want that one.
Looking good considering this is what we know about thus far,I am pretty sure there will me some more games to be announced.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Mortal Kombat 11
Yoshi
Mario
Daemon X Machina
Luigis Mansion
Never played Fire Emblem before but quite interested in that and not getting my hopes up but can’t wait for Metroid Prime.
From this list I'm most looking forward to Metroid Prime, Fire Emblem, Bayonetta and Daemon x Machina. Yes, I am hopeful for MP4 in 2019. Lots of people saying it won't be out this year, but I see no basis for that. Unless somebody has an uncle at Nintendo who told them it wouldn't be a 2019 release, of course.
Off the list, Marvel UA3 is probably my number one hype title, followed by Dragon Quest (Builders or XI, I like both). Aside from that, waiting to see if any of the great Atlus franchises make an appearance.
Really hoping this is the year we start seeing a lot of third party titles releasing simultaneously on Switch. I'm not knocking the support we've had so far, but Switch has been out long enough for developers to be counting it in their multiplat releases.
2019 has all the makings of an epic year of switch gaming. I have a feeling prime 4 will be 2020 but hopefully we’ll get that HD trilogy by summer and an e3 game play reveal for prime 4. Hoping for an f-zero, 1080 Snowboarding, excitebike or wave race surprise
For me it's new super mario bros u all the resident evil games coming to switch onimusha bloodatained prime 4 yoshi and luigis mansion .
Crossing my fingers that Metroid Prime 4 releases in 2019.
Final Fantasy VII Switch means I can finally justify my username after 13 years on this site
Persona 5 is on my list — excited about most of the others. Animal Crossing I am on the fence with, as Stardew Valley scratches that itch for me.
Metroid please please please come with the trilogy ported over too!
I don't really like the fact that in the most anticipated list of Switch games for 2019 we have a 10 year old and a 22(!) year old games but alas!
Plus, Metroid Prime 4 is a 2020 release.
@GrailUK
No they’re different games according to Miyamoto
https://www.polygon.com/e3/2017/6/14/15804766/pikmin-4-update
My guess is a number of those wont be 2019 titles. Certainly not Metroid, very likely not Bayonetta or Pikmin and I think that other GameFreak title Town will be moved for two reasons, so as not clash with Animal Crossing and to focus all efforts on Pokemon to get it out this year.
Still a good year ahead though, I reckon we might be in for a surprise too with an F-Zero game springing from nowhere possibly co-developed with shin'en who haven't done anything of note for a few years now.
**Edited**
@electrolite77 Oh! Splendid Ty!
There are a heck of a lot of good games coming to Switch, but the ones I am most hyped about are:
1. Animal Crossing
2. Pokemon
3. Fire Emblem
But with all the games lined up for sure already for 2019, I expect I might be buying as many as 15 full price retail releases this year. Holy balls when am I gonna have the time to play all of these?!
It's going to be a good year for me. This is what I'm looking forward to in order:
Animal Crossing
Pokémon
Fire Emblem Three Houses (such an awkward name...)
Final Fantasy VII
Bayonetta 3
Luigi's Mansion
Also Pikmin and Metroid but it doesn't seem too likely they'll release in 2019
@Spectra I'm personally more excited for IX, but then again I have all of these games on Steam
I'm playing FFVII to completion right now, so I can increase the chances of Remake being at E3 this year
All I see is a long list of games with most not having release dates. Hopefully the Switch in 2019 isn't a "wait until the holiday season" year like 2018.
Out of that list, I'm the most interested in:
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Daemon X Machina (Thanks XCX)
Metroid Prime 4 (though I think 2020 is more likely)
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pokemon 2019
The Final Fantasy ports
For context on that last one, I've never played the FF series and am eager to finally jump into it soon. I finally touched the DQ series this past year and can't believe what I've been missing out on.
I'm definitely excited for what 2019 will bring. Barring any issues, I hope to finally grab a Switch this year. Now that I've jinxed it....XD
Yeaaaaaaaah guys, MP4 and B3 will come in 2019, of course.
Metroid's not coming in 2019 so my only hopeful is Pikmin
Animal Crossing
Pokémon
Luigi’s Mansion
Yoshi
Can’t wait.
M rated games like No More Heroes and Bayonetta aren't my style, and I don't consider Pikmin to be confirmed. Otherwise, this list speaks to me. 2019 is going to be a great year to be a Nintendo fan
Most anticipated games of 2019 (Nintendo or otherwise)
5. Pokemon Gen 8
4. Mortal Kombat 11
3. Luigi's Mansion 3
2. Samurai Spirits (New Samurai Shodown game)
1. Devil May Cry V
EDIT: Crap I forgot about Jump Force. Actually I'll put that at #3.
The reason I didn't put titles like Metroid Prime 4 or DOOM Eternal is because those aren't confirmed to be 2019 titles. Speculate all you want, but they aren't 2019 games unless the developers confirm it themselves.
@ALinkttPresent You're not really a hack n' slash guy I guess
The titles I'll get day 1 this year:
Daemon X Machina
Mortal Kombat 11
DOOM Eternal
Resident Evil 4
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
I'm curious about FFVII, and then the rest can come along!
SMT V please and thank you
SMT5, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Yokai Watch 4.
@Morph House? That's way smaller than a Town...
But yeah, they shouldn't have put Bayonetta, Pikmin or Metroid on this list because those aren't solidified 2019 titles (yet). I personally think Metroid and Bayonetta are both 2020, and we're not going to see them until E3.
@Edu23XWiiU Finally someone mentions Mortal Kombat!
No one's talking about that new Samurai Shodown game though...
@GrailUK
No worries. Another one desperate for Pikmin here 😁
Honestly, I would expect M.Prime 4 to be a 2020 release.
The big hitters for 2019 are, no doubt, going to be Animal Crossing and Pokemon. One just after half-way, and one at the end of the year.
The fact that we're also getting Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi and plenty of other confirmed third-party titles (can't believe you missed out Resident Evil 0, 1 and 4) would - surely - have a negative impact on Prime 4's spotlight.
We know that Metroid has historically not been a big seller in Japan too, so I think that makes all the more sense to give it plenty of exposure next year once the dust has settled from Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
Even if unannounced and Nintendo repeatedly saying they are done with the F-Zero franchise, I just hope they revisit that statement and come out guns blazing. This and a new 2D Super Mario... and yes I know the Wii U remaster is coming this month, but I was one of the handful* few that actually had a Wii U. I would also be interested in a Golden Sun, so Nintendo is giving the RPG community a treat, after the success of Octopath Traveler, this might send the right singals for the powers to be...
(*exaggerated)
You would rather see a bunch of remakes than a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance game?
@BlueBlur101 haha, towns, houses its all the same
I'm still waiting for Wargroove, the Advance Wars clone. Where did that disappear to? Surely must be released in 2019?
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
TOEJAM And Earl 4
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pokemon 2019
....Oh...I just want more of the same it seems! Lol.
But TOWN looks good
My list is;
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Bayonetta 3
Metroid Prime 4
Mortal Kombat 11
Doom Eternal
Pikmin 4 would be an amazing surprise
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pokemon
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
The forth chapter of Shovel Knight
With the Indie games that are coming to the Switch e-shop it seems there will be a lot of great games to play in 2019 on my Switch.
@Dman10 I agree NSMBUD should be there, but it's probably not because it's release is close enough.
I'm excited for Pikmin 4 and Animal Crossing will be a purchase for me too. I'd love for a new Mario Maker to be announced for this year too.
@Dman10 isn't it the same game that came out on the Wii U in 2012 though?
These lists always have every title announce by Nintendo on them. It would be interesting if they actually said they weren't' excited about one of them. My vote would be Yoshi's Crafted World. Wooly World on Wii U bored me to tears and new one doesn't look to be much different.
The only definite game for me is Luigi's Mansion 3 and of course any Metroid Prime games that may be released. Yoshi is a game I really like the look of if it's not too easy and Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem and Crash Team Racing high up on my probable list. Its a shame the likes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 and the original never seem to show up when older games are ported but at least I have the remake of 2 elsewhere to keep me occupied.
2019 is already looking far better than last year and I cannot wait
@USWITCH64 Yes, it's the same game that cause a lot of people to say they were beating a dead horse with tired, incremental changes to the "New Super Mario" series six years ago. But it bares the Nintendo name and has Toadette, so... Everybody needs to get super hyped!
Although in reference to my last comment, I suppose this is a case of Nintendo Life admitting they're not excited for a Nintendo games. So good on them for recognizing recycled mediocrity for what it is.
@BusyTressa Hopefully for a good price. Always looking for a bargain.
Ports of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and Xenoblade Chronicles X will make my 2019
@Kainbrightside Tell him he is the hero we need.
@Zyph Or better yet Mirage Sessions #FE 2 sigh
@TheFox I enjoyed it on Wii U but probably won't buy it again at full price despite toadette!
Pokémon and Bayonetta 3 are my biggest games this year. Hopefully Platinum will get it out by the end of the year!
@BlueBlur101 Yeah man, Mortal Kombat will be incredible on the Switch! Is Samurai Shodown confirmed? If it is, day 1 buy as well!
Tales of Vesperia any good? I played Tales of Symphonia and liked it, but I didn’t like Abyss.
@Lemmy_the_Koopa I'll take both xD
Luigi’s Mansion and Metroid for me. If Metroid doesn’t make it, then it’s just ok Year. Multi platform games will depend on which version is the best, and portability doesn’t factor in for me.
Seems odd to include two games that may not be 2019 and one that isn’t even officially announced, but not Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Mortal Kombat 11 or even Wargroove
Final Fantasy on the switch is going to bring me so much joy.
Need my retro RPG fix! Can't wait for the Grandia ports and Final Fantasy 9, the best Final Fantasy there ever was (along with 4 and 6).
I would easily pay $100 for Prime 1-4 as a package deal. Too bad Nintendo probably wouldn't do such a thing. At least not this early on.
Animal Crossing is looking to steal even more precious hours of my life, and Luigi’s Mansion is gonna give me a spookily good time, as well as Pokémon 2019 aiming to have me catch ‘em all...over again. 😂
Daemon x Machina, Untitled Goose Game, Yoshi’s Crafted World, Town, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 have definitely caught my attention!
And of course there’s ports to look forward too, like Downwell and New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe.
2019 is already shaping up to be a killer year! If Nintendo can throw in some nice surprises, it’ll be perfect.
Cannot wait for fire emblem, Metroid, and hopefully Pikmin 4. This will be a glorious year of gaming. Only Nintendo still gets me this excited about games. Love the Switch!
Looking forward to Persona 3, 4 and 5 this year
Pokemon is going to be SO good! Just PLEASE Gamefreak... implement FULL 4 player co-op gameplay!
PSYCHONAUTS 2 BABY
...if it ever gets announced.
FF8 will NOT be on the Switch.
The fact that DQ XII doesn’t appear on that list saddens me. I really hope we’re not waiting another 12+ months for that game to make it onto the Switch.
Now that that’s off my chest, I’m really hyped for Luigi’s Mansion, Tales, Town, Pokemon, & Metroid. Almost filled my 200GB card, looks like i’ll have to upgrade to a 400GB card for the new year.
@electrolite77 oooh, I forgot about MUA3. Definitely one of my most anticipated games of the year. The original UA was the game I used to teach my kids how to play video games. Can’t wait to dive back into some awesome super hero co-op action with them again.
Yoshi's Crafted World
Pokemon, if they don't screw it up
Luigi's Mansion
Metroid Prime 4
I'd also like to see announcements for Spyro Reignited and Metroid Prime Trilogy.
@Edu23XWiiU Mortal Kombat will be amazing, I really want Spawn as a playable guest fighter as well!
And yes Samurai Spirits will be on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC
It's a day one buy for me on Switch and PC. I love Samurai Shodown
This is a terrible lineup in my opinion. Pikimin, Bayonetta, Luigi's Mansion, and Fire Emblem don't sell, so none of these are going to keep the Switch going strong. I don't trust Nintendo to do Metroid right anymore. Hopefully, there will be more, better announcements to come.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
@BlueBlur101 Do you mean like Hyrule Warriors? Because I love that game
I’d put Wargroove on that list as well. I’m not expecting Metroid Prime 4 this year, same goes for Pikmin. Wouldn’t mind if they did of course.
I look forward to hearing info about Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Luigi's Mansion 3 might be good, but so far it looks like a 3DS game through and through.
Decent list but where is Mortal Kombat 11 and Doom Eternal? For me personally those are my #1 and 2 most anticipated for 2019
@ilikeike Nintendo is known to be miracle workers they can get prime 4 done in time so we cant rule out a 2019 release.
@JDORS you entire comment is terrible go crawl back to the nearest bridge where you belong.
And that's only the confirmed ones. We still don't know what other suprises will be announced and/or released this year
My top anticipated game is Animal Crossing, followed by Metroid Prime 4 and maybe Yoshi's Craft world. I am also interested in Mortal Komabt 11, Doom eternal and Crash team racing.
Superb line up of games and several missing that could've made it even stronger. Some of these titles may not be the biggest sellers individually but collectively they show the Switch has a steady stream of top quality games releasing regularly,so it's hard to imagine sales dropping off any time soon. We've got a great year of gaming ahead of us for sure. .I reckon 2020 will be the year of the next Mario and Zelda.
Definite buys
Yoshi
Daemon X Machina
Mortal Kombat 11
Luigi's Mansion 3
Crash Team Racing
Observer - really can't wait for this
Final Fantasy 7 - never played a FF title, good place to start?
Also these 3 if they release
Doom Eternal
Bayonetta 3
Metroid Prime 4
Maybes
Fire Emblem
Animal Crossing
Pokémon - would be my first
Hoping for a new game from Playdead the creators of Inside and Limbo. I'd say there's a good chance as they've already teased a new game.
Fire Emblem Three Houses, Doom Eternal, Crash Team Racing, Untitled Goose Game, and Luigi's Mansion 3 are all day 1 purchases for me! Lots to look forward to this year.
@JDORS Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon sold over 5 million copies lol
Fire Emblem Three Houses and Yoshi's Crafed World are definitely my most anticipated titles! Animal Crossing has always been one of my favorite series but I don't know what to expect from the new title just yet. I hope to get a healthy bit of evolution like what we got with New Leaf. Definitely don't want another City Folk situation.
About Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4, it is true we have no idea when they're coming out. But we've known about them for over a year at this point and have no idea how far into development they were when announced. I think it's fine to speculate 2019 as a possible release date because there's literally no argument against it. I think it's just as likely Metroid and Bayonetta release this year as it is they don't.
Unravel on Switch would have been awesome too!
No love for Dragon Quest XI? At least it's supposed to come out in Japan this year, and we know it has been localized for the US already, so that should not be an excuse for a delay.
@Spectra I'm still hoping for an FFVI remake from the Octopath Traveler team.
@ferroreo i wouldnt get my hopes up not with square track record of delaying the game constantly for the west.
@Sir_funkington And there are some other solid-looking titles including exclusives missing as well. It seems the person who made the list didn’t really research what was coming out.
From this list, I am only looking forward to Yoshi's crafted world. Other than that to Bloodstained. The game I want most is a new Donkey Kong Country game!
I'm interested in seeing what Pokemon Gen 8 looks like. I expect to be more a semi-open world-ish version of Let's Go (but not anywhere close to being "Zelda: Pokemon of the Wild") with slightly better graphics and all of the Pokemon thus far + new Pokemons.
Also interested in seeing footage of Metroid Prime 4, even if it doesn't release this year.
I want the most:
-Any new intriguing IPs in adventure or RPG genre. E.g. games such as Octopath Traveler (loved it to bits)/Starlink (liked the premise but slightly dull worlds/repetitive)/Horizon: Zero Dawn (nice fighting mechanics, OK story)
-PES 2020 (fat chance)
-As someone mentioned, resurrections of Wave Race or Excitebike 64 (even less of a chance)
I will buy:
-Luigi’s Mansion 3
-Fire Emblem
-Animal Crossing
-Metroid Prime 4 (if released this year)
-Dragon Quest XI (if released outside Japan)
Will be tempted to buy:
-Resident Evil 4
-Final Fantasy VII & IX
Will wait for more info:
-Pokémon
-Town
-Daemon X Machina
No strong interest:
-Pikmin (loved nr 1, then grew a bit bored)
-Tales of Vesperia
-Crash Team Racing
-Bayonetta (Devil May Cry was never my thing and these games seem so similar?)
Will not get (unless by some miracle they become acclaimed master pieces with 10s across the board):
-Travis Strikes again
-Yoshi’s Crafted World
I'll eat my shoe if FF7R releases on ANY platform in 2019.
@Ralizah better put alot of seasoning on that shoe before you eat it.
Metroid is definitely at the top of my list. The two times Nintendo has left us hanging on Metroid were the Wii U and...
https://youtu.be/80DZjfGBnfA
At least they teased MP4 ahead of time. Still, I hope it doesn't miss 2019.
@JDORS Not every game needs to be a system seller. Nintendo has at least two lined up for 2019 already (Animal Crossing and a new Pokémon). Fire Emblem will be big in Japan and will definitely be a decent success in the West. Luigi's Mansion 2 is in the top 15 best selling 3DS titles. And I'm sure we'll find out about at least one more major game coming out this year.
@roboshort although there are definitely some glaring omissions on their list, I think the mistake here is that the list is limited to 15 titles. They should have set it at 25 or 30, there’s others too that I could name that although not everyone’s ‘cup of tea’ could be on a list like this; toe jam and earl 3, mortal kombat, wind jammers 2 and that Rico FPS from rising star games looks pretty cool too. Seems strange that town and goose game are on here and they aren’t. But hey it’s not my list and it’s also got the comments section going 👍🏻
It would be great if Atlus pulled its finger out and gave us shin megami. It's 2019 Atlus, are we ever going to get it?
@ALinkttPresent Yeah, Dynasty Warriors games are basically hack n' slashers. They don't really appeal to me as much as Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or God of War
War Groove, yo!
2019 is already looking to be better than 2018.
Games confirmed for 2019 alone:
Animal Crossing
Pokemon
Luigi's Mansion 3
Fire Emblem 3 Houses
Yoshi's Crafted World
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Possibilities for this year:
Shin Megami Tensei 5
Bayonetta 3
Pikmin 4
Metroid Prime 4
I can't wait
Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pokemon Gen 8, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Daemon X Machina are the games I want most. If Bayo 3 and Prime 4 make it out this year, I'll buy those as well. Also, whenever Pikmin 4 is out, that's a guaranteed buy for me.
2019 is looking like it'll be an impressive year for Nintendo. Animal Crossing, Metroid, Pokemon, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem and then Bayonetta 3, Daemon X Machina and Travis Strikes Again, among others.
Of course there's the Yoshi game as well. (and honestly I wouldn't be shocked if they had another Kirby game cooking in the oven for this year)
Metroid prime 4 in 2019? Ha! I really doubt it. I'll be pessimistic and say more likely 2021...
Let me break down the real list of confirmed 2019 titles, and I’ll even give you 20 instead of 15
No More Heroes
New Super Mario Bros U
Daemon X Machina
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Yoshi’s Crafted World
Tales of Vesperia
Final Fantasy X/X-2
Final Fantasy XII
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Animal Crossing
Pokemon
Town
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Dragon Quest XI
Dragon Quest Builders 2
DOOM Eternal
Wolfenstein Youngbood
Mortal Kombat 11
Team Sonic Racing
Crash Team Racing
And we may yet get some of these:
Metroid Prime 4
Pikmin 4
Bayonetta 3
Shin Megami Tensei V
There’s more announced, but these are the top listers. That said, I’m VERY much looking forward to Resident Evil 4 in HD with motion controls and finally a portable version. I know it didn’t make my list, but it’s still very much anticipated. We’ll also be getting tons of new announcements. I’m betting Dark Souls 2 comes. I’m betting Persona 5 comes. Skyward Sword HD (gotta have a Zelda every 2 years, you know the drill). And stuff we haven’t even thought of yet.
Even if no new games are announced 2019 will be a great year for Switch.
If Tales of Vesperia and FF7 can be here, so can Grandia I & II HD Remaster.
@JaxonH I wasn't planning on getting RE4 despite it being one of my favourite games of all time. I've played it to completion on GameCube and Wii several times, the last being not so long ago. I didn't think about having never played it in HD though. That's enough for me to go again.
@Ralizah I think the FF7 the Switch is getting is just an HD version of the original while the remake is a PS4 exclusive.
@jimolya nintendo is known to get games completed in time so 2019 is still on the table for prime 4
@Kevember i have a feeling nintendo and 3rd party devs got more games to announce for switch in 2019 up their sleeves.
@PrincessBowsette I think Nintendo is more known for delaying games.... The whole debacle with Breath of the Wild's release date with it eventually being delayed to release it on Switch is a prime example.
SMT5 (if it comes this year)
Pokemon Gen 8 (if it comes this year)
RPG Maker MV
Wargroove
Bloodstained
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Grandia 1 & 2
Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, 12 and Chocobo's Dungeon
These are the big ones of the top of my head and hopefully plenty more will show up, Metroid Prime will hopefully turn out fine too once it gets revealed, still a bit nervous for that one tbqh.
@jimolya nintendo stated themselves that after botw their no longer going to delay games that long anymore and besides prime 4 has been development for a while so they could have it done before fall time frame in 2019.
2019 is gonna be one of the best years for the Switch. I hope (fingers crossed) Bayonetta and Metroid make it, but they don't have to. It will still be one epic year for the Switch.
@PrincessBowsette I hope you're right. Im a huge fan of the Metroid series and would love to play a new Prime game this year. However I believe they'll release remasters of the original trilogy first and then release prime 4 6-12months later.
Smash bros ultimate was the only game I bought on release day other than octo expansion (I preordered that) for 2018 and I’m probably gonna go crazy over animal crossing and play it all day and night I get it
Daemon X Machina, Luigi's Mansion 3 (also 1&2 HD), Bayonetta 3, Pikmin 4 and of course Metroid with bring Prime Trilogy HD as well!!! ... All the rest I don't care about
I'd rather have Team Sonic Racing then Crash Bandicoot Racing. Just my opinion.
PIKMIN 4!
When Animal Crossing is released. I will take a week vacation and play as long as my body will stay awake for.....
Doom Eternal
Pikmin 4
Metroid (Maybe)
Animal Crossing (Maybe)
Multiplayer Games
@jimolya
In terms of recent years, there’s only 2 examples of Nintendo games being delayed. And one of them, Zelda, was for good reason. But there are dozens of examples of games that released on time.
I’d say delayed games are definitely the exception. Not the rule.
@OorWullie
Most games being ported I haven’t played, barring a few Wii U titles. But there are some that are just so timeless, even if I didn’t plan to play them right away I would still buy just to support and get an HD hybrid handheld version. RE4 would be one, for sure. Although the truth is I haven’t played that game yet.
@Medic_alert
It has been. Pete Hines confirmed “the next Wolfenstein game is coming to Switch”. And that game is Wolfenstein Youngblood. People had their suspicions when listings went up for Switch after the announcement, but Pete Hines confirmed later.
Where's Shin Megami Tensei and Yoshi World thingy?
I just hope that we get to see new Mario Kart on the Switch sometime mid/end of 2019. I'm still having a good time playing it with my fellow cousins since its release.
@icerzerocool i doubt well see a new mario kart anytime soon since the new nintendo president stated there be more content coming for it along with other games as well.
I think 2019 is going to be a great year for Switch. Already we know about quite a few great titles coming. Super psyched.
@PrincessBowsette just bearing mind that Nintendo never stated 2019 as the release year (even the latest report stated TBA)
@Balta666 but doesnt mean its rule out for 2019.
@PrincessBowsette correct, but I would put as less than 10% chances of it (IMHO) for two reasons in addition to Nintendo not giving a release that is that the game should have only started development after E3 2017 and therefore 2years is not enough time and mostly because ninrnto has more than enough games for next year anyway with a massive hit on holiday season with Pokémon
I'm most looking forward to Dragon Quest XI, Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy (all of them), Luigi's Mansion 3, and possibly Bayo 3. I'm not expecting Metroid Prime 4 this year, but I'd love a port of the trilogy to tide me over.
@Balta666 i dont know man nintendo has pulled the impossible before i mean prime 4 has been in development for quite awhile.
How can it be that a purely speculative Pikmin 4 makes the list, and yet Ultimate Alliance 3 does not??
I’m starting to think there is no Pikmin 4 at this point.
Looking forward to Crash: Tag-Team Racing Nitro-fueled, Pokemon Gen VIII games, and Town for the Nintendo Switch.
@Sir_funkington heh. Yeah. They may be doing that on purpose to get people active in the comment section.... I just found it strange cause Nintendo’s said nothing of Pikmin but that somehow makes the list.
Yawn 😴😴 another Pokemon game on the way! That will be two in the space of a year, could spend those resources on a completely new idea instead of churning out yet another Pokemon game. Aren't there about 50 out already!!!
@andyg1412
Gamefreak's Town is releasing next year as well, so your can't say they are only churning out Pokemon titles every year.
Other than the couple of titles coming in the 1st Q, we don’t know anything about these games. I don’t know if Nintendo would be willing to release this many big games all in one year. I would like them to but... if they release a new Pokémon, Yoshi, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Metroid, and Bayonetta- what would be left for 2020? Is 2020 going to be Zelda and Mario again?
By the way, anyone know what NES games are coming to online service this month? I imagine if NintendoLife were a village I’d probably have some decent size stones hurled in my direction for even mentioning those NES games, but, alas, I have no shame. I’m just a man who wants Contra and Castlevania.
luigi manion 3!!!!
considering the lack of firm dates, 2019 could very well be the year everyone feared 2018 would be--the year with nothing. metroid and pokemon releases, the centrepoint releases, are totally pie in the sky speculation with regard to release dates. the only high profile game that i feel will come out (due to the quality of the videos shared with the public) is daemon x machina--a game that looks incredible and will be an instant buy from me if it's reviewed well.
that kill la kill game also looks super cool and i hope it comes to switch with an english localization if possible.
Will Buy:
Luigi's Mansion 3
Untitled Goose Game
Yo Kai Watch 4 (If it releases outside of Japan)
Yoshi Commits Tax Fraud/Crafted World
Waiting On More Info:
Animal Crossing
I think there is a good chance Metroid Prime 4 would be a 2019 release. Technically we didn't now about Smash Ultimate until the Inkling reveal trailer earlier in 2018. Even then we didn't know if it was new or a port. E3 and the subsequent Smash Directs answered a lot of our questions and the game was in stores by the end of 2018.
I don't see why it's not a possibility for this game to he out by the end of 2019, though I suppose technically We saw game play of Yoshi's Crafted World a long time ago and it is finally coming out soon so who really knows. I guess E3 this year is probably when we will know for sure.
@andyg1412 Personally, I'm not a fan, but they sell like crazy.
RPG Maker MV > Animal Crossing > Shin Megami Tensei V > Dragon Quest XI > Mortal Kombat 11 > Pokemon 2019 > Luigi's Mansion 3 > Final Fantasy XII > Doom Eternal > Daemon X Machina > Fire Emblem Three Houses > Destiny Connect > Grandia I & II Remastered > Pillars of Eternity II > Resident Evil Remake = RE 4 = RE Zero.
-Marvel Ultimate Alliance
-Mortal Kombat 11
-Bayonetta 3
-Metroid 4
-Doom Eternal
-Final Fantasy X/X-2 remaster
-Animal Crossing
-Katamari Damacy Reroll *2018 (Will pick up soon lol)
I need an extra job lol
This year is going to be very expensive for all of us!
My most anticipated game is Wargroove!
This article has coerced me into playing Metroid Prime this afternoon 😊
I hope people realize that Town will likely be a low budget eShop only release, much like Gamefreak's previous "indie" outings (HarmoKnight, Pocket Card Jockey, Giga Wreckers, etc) but a bit more ambitious.
I think I've made it clear previously that Animal Crossing is probably my most anticipated title this year. Seems to be a hotly anticipated one for others as well. Currently, Animal Crossing Switch is trending on Twitter. So clearly, the public is ready for it and according to some tweets, it may be the system seller they're waiting for.
Hate to rain on the parade, but Pokemon getting delayed isn't out of the question.

Also bearish on Metroid Prime 4 (I think its chances of coming out in 2019 are overrated and its chances of being cancelled are underrated by the conventional wisdom). As far as E ticket games go, Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion might be enough for this year.
Even if Bayonetta, Pikmin and Metroid don't come out this year, 2019 is going to be an amazing year for the Switch.
@BlueBlur101 That's some awesome news man thanks!
@GrailUK Exactly!
I don't get why so many people expect a new Pikmin. Miyamoto said a new Pikmin game was coming, and then we got Hey Pikmin. That's it
@anibalherrerab Ah, now hold ya horses! If you read electorlite77's reply o my post you'll see Mr Miyamoto pretty much said they are developing 4 at the time of Hey!'s release! So...
@Edu23XWiiU And apparently King of Fighters 14 as well so I'm actually so hype for that
Gimme Metroid Prime 4 and I'll be happy for the year!
Very excited for Prime 4 but equally for Pikmin 4. When he said that in 2015, could he have been talking about that awful 3DS Pikmin game they put out? Replaying Pikmin 3 on the wii u with my son and I forgot how magical it can be.
@BlueBlur101 If that's true, the Switch will instantly become the best console for fighting games! I still have to get KOF 98 though, my favorite!
The Real 15 Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games of 2019:

Feb 7th - BlazBlue: CentralFiction S.E.
Feb 22nd - SUPER STREET Racing
March 26th - Xenon Racer
April 23rd - Mortal Kombat 11
May 21st - Team Sonic Racing
June 21st - Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled
Ion Maiden
Grid AutoSport
ShadowGun Legends
Doom Eternal
Samurai Shodown
Metroid Prime 4
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Daemon Machina
All I care about in 2019 are FE Three Houses, Animal Crossing 2019, & Pokemon 2019... waiting to see the roster of Ultimate Alliance 3 before I make any commitments. I'm just hoping that they actually bother localizing all the inevitable DLC for Three Houses, which they didn't bother to do with Fates.
@Edu23XWiiU It won't become my de facto platform for fighting games yet. I'm still waiting on Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. SFV obviously will never come to Switch due to that game's development being funded by Sony themselves, but I have on PC anyway
@BlueBlur101 I don't need those games, the ones that are out and coming out are more than enough
This could very well be the final Pokémon game that isn't like Let's Go. Rip Pokémon.
