Diddy Kong has been revealed as the next playable character to join Mario Tennis Aces' ever-growing roster of sports stars. The best news? He'll be available starting from next month.
Yes, everyone's favourite Nintendo hat-wearing monkey will be immediately available to players who play during the next online tournament, taking place between 1st and 30th September. After those dates, once the tournament has well and truly ended, he’ll then be unlocked for everyone, regardless of whether they participated in the tournament or not.
You can see Diddy in action in the new trailer above. He's a fast-paced character (in the 'Speedy' class) who comes with a vine-swinging special shot and adorably holds the ball with his tail. Now we all have yet another character to master!
Have you been taking part in the Mario Tennis Aces online tournaments? Will you be giving Diddy Kong a try next month? Tell us below.

Neat.
Is this game still the unfinished joke it was a month ago or has Nintendo fixed the main issues? Or at least add the possibility to have a full 3 sets/6 games match?
@Rhaoulos It was never an unfinished joke but it had its issues. But since you asked: They've balanced the characters and added 2 new ones and added a retry button in adventure mode. So they've fixed the majority of issues. But no you still cant set match length, sadly.
But will it make the main game mechanics better? I am guessing no.
@NiaBladerunner Nothing wrong with the main game mechanics. There's a huge lack of content though, which adding extra characters is not going to fix.
@VexingInsanity I remember reading something about 6 game sets in the News section of the Switch
@Sunset758 Yep, you can play a 6 game one set match now. But no 6 game / 3 set match.
There we go. Just who I was waiting for!
Roster still needs Link and Ganondorf. Maybe they’re next!
Along with paid online sadly!.
Too bad it's still a bad game regardless of who joins the roster. What a shame.
People are still playing this? I got bored of it very quick, which is unusual considering I played MT Open for months on 3DS. It wasn't anything like the RPG mode returning from the classics that they made it out to be.
Roll on the next Mario Golf I say, they've lost it on Tennis. Better yet, let Camelot work on a new Golden Sun
Love how on his special he swings on a vine - which is suspended in midair!
The moment you realize he got into this game before Mario Kart 8. Seriously Nintendo, bring him back! And add in Funky while you're at it!
@NCChris New Funky Mode for both Tennis and Kart
