Dark Horse Comics has been working closely alongside Nintendo for quite some time now, offering fans a fantastic collection of books providing artwork, info, and background lore that might have otherwise slipped under the radar. The company isn't done just yet, either, as it has now announced yet another book for the series.
This latest instalment is called 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild--Creating A Champion' (the version you can see above is a newly-announced hardcover 'Hero's Edition'). This deluxe edition of the book features a slipcase with Link's recently rediscovered blue colouring, an exclusive cover for the book itself, a map of Hyrule printed on cloth, an art print of the Champions' photo Link hangs in his Hateno home, and a beautiful glass replica of a spirit orb. We have to admit, it's pretty spectacular.
But what exactly is buried deep within those lovely pages?
- Nearly 50 pages of sketches and official illustrations from Takumi Wada
- 296 Pages of design artwork and commentary about the making of the game from creators
- 55 Page historical section that divulges an in-depth history of the Hyrule of Breath of the Wild
- Interviews with key members of the development team including Hidemaro Fujibayashi, Satoru Takizawa, Takumi Wada, and Eiji Aonuma
The book is scheduled to be released on 20th November this year and is currently available to pre-order. Be warned, though, that this little beauty will currently set you back $99.99.

Since I had a 18% coupon code, I actually just went ahead and preordered the basic edition (and the God of War Artbook ^^). The collectors edition here looks really good, but it's a bit too pricey for my taste and also a bit too unwieldy for my collection. Anyways, very much looking forward to this!
If anyone wants to buy me this, please... don't hold back XD
sigh
Dark Horse, sit down. Okay I love you, but please, pump your breaks. You can't keep making these things and making me want them. They are too nice.
Jokes aside, I am really blown away with the quality Dark Horse brings. This one is to sure more basic and clean, but you can't deny the extras are awesome. I'm a sucker for maps and I love the BOTW map. The spirit marble seems a bit silly for the book perhaps, but I'll take it.
Love these books great additions for any Legand of Zelda fan and worth every penny.
This is going to be hard to resist. Couldn't resist the NES-cartridge design of the previous book they released. But I stopped collecting merchandise, and games mostly as well. But Zelda... and Zelda stuff... and hardcover deluxe editions of Zelda BotW art books...
Then again, the price is simply too high.
I wonder how much Breath of the Wild is going to influence Link's look in future... It's not the first time he had a blue shirt, but his iconic green outfit seems more like an afterthought in the game.
When will Dark Horse stay away from my wallet??
$100 lol.
Keep milking those virgins.
There is a Gamestop exclusive as well
It's called Creating a Calamity.
doesnt seem to be coming to UK
Really nice. I have Hyrule Historia. Need to get the other two. Hope this has more answers as far as story goes and timeline placement
I have the standard edition and and deluxe edition on order. I'm hoping the deluxe edition drops in price like the deluxe edition did on the last book.
Got mine preordered. Will be a nice Christmas present!
I have the three books so far so I have to get this one as well. Thanks for taking all my money...
@CCore28 Ha! A man can dream... maybe I'll ask to review a copy of it. - "The book feels nice... it has words in it..."
The sad thing is that I want this (though I'll be passing on the Deluxe edition), but I'm one of the ten people out there who still hasn't played this gem....
Might get the regular version someday.
