Aside from a certain dual-release from The Pokémon Company, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS is one of Nintendo's big hopes for Holiday sales on the 3DS. It takes much of what people love about the Wii U title and brings it to the portable, with online sharing and some Mystery Mushroom outfits making way for a couple of offline additions.
The 3DS version will clearly like to be considered as a quirky Mario platformer with creativity included, rather than the chaotic but enjoyable level exchange that the home console iteration delivered. A video for the portable entry partly focuses on Medal Challenges, which take the pre-loaded stages and throw in tricky requirements that have to be met.
Our disappointment over the offline nature of the 3DS version aside, it does look like a fun way to play some slightly wacky and experimental Mario stages.
Do you like the look of Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS?

The challenges look neat. I wonder if one can put them in one's own levels? I mean I doubt one could be it would be neat.
New course themes, mechanics and enemies when?
Seriously where is man factory, forest, desert, space, volcano, beach, ice, etc. themes?
And where are mah chargin chucks, blarghs/magmaargh, mechakoopa, swoopers, shy guys/spear guys, eerie, Sharks, clams, crabs, Pokey, broozer, Octoomba, piranha creepers, , bomb boos, tweester, fire snake, jellybeams and bulbers.
Also water wherever we want please, light/Dark mechanics, barrels, ice flower, cat suit, plus webs/fences, vertical levels and meteors, gravity mechanics
Even just a a 5th of this stuff would be great. Pls Nintendo. Don't waste this opputinity to add new elements to Mario Maker. The updates you did for the U version were cool but too too little.
These challenges actually look pretty cool! At first, I thought they would be "Collect x coins" or something like that, but this is much better.
@Pikachupwnage At Super Mario Maker Switch.
Okay cool.
Watch the online community recreate every single 3DS-exclusive level on the Wii U so you don't need to buy this game to play them.
Although I guess the event-triggers won't be met that way unless they implement similar for the Wii U in an update, hmm.
I'll get it if you can transfer levels you made between both versions.
Neat feature. Would actually kind of sell the game to me if it werent for the lack of online features.
@Pikachupwnage All your suggestions those, or any other addition would be great to have, but I feel that Mario Maker is awesome and complete enough as it is. Anything additional is more icing on the cake IMO.
"Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS"
Was Nintendo afraid if they left the "Nintendo" out of the title people would think it was on another companies 3DS?
Hopefully this Challenges thing will appear in another traditional Mario game. I mean, Captain Toad had it and it worked, so why not go forward and add it in other Mario games?
Still lacking key features of the Wii U version AND options in general. Maybe I wouldn't have sold the Wii U version if it had more course elements and support!!!
The drought of Super Mario Maker 3DS news since the game's announcement turned out to be a source of optimism as I took said drought to justify the fact that, in fact, an online component was indeed coming.
Said optimism lasted until today. But all Super Mario Maker 3DS news are good news all the same to me, as I've been looking forward to this ever since the Wii U original was merely announced. And being able to mess around with the editor wherever I go is still the game's selling point to me, so I won't complain too much; then again, the possibility of online sharing was in turn a justification for the game's release date being still so far away in the future - and without that being part of the equation, I just wish the game was already out.
I like challenges, but not enough to double dip and buy Mario Maker again. Plus the lack of online sharing has already put me off the game.
@rjejr
They did that for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
I'm sad about what's gone from the game but the challenges seem fun and I'm glad it's 100 new levels rather than repeating the Wii U built in levels.
W—worlds?
@Nintendude789 Yeah, I know, but I didn't like it then either.
My whole household is 3DS-enabled, so I could see this getting a ton of use. Now I really want it but that's like four physical games on the horizon. FIVE if EOV is announced.
I'm not one to buy a bunch of games I know I won't play but Yoshi/Poochy, Mario Sports Superstars, this, Pokémon--some heavy hitters (in my world) coming out right at sunset. Really can't complain, but gonna have to do some serious time-budgeting now...
I'll prob pick this up even tho i got the Wii U version.
Won't buy this again as I enjoy the home version.
This looks awesome, but the graphics though not too good, but hey, its 3ds. Nothings perfect.
@UK-Nintendo yeah. I'd say just wait for when it is on sale at a good price.
these challenges looks really fun and they better be on the wii u version cuz nintendo better not try so hard to make the 3ds version better cuz its NOT
Give us wii u owners something or at least a loyalty programme kind of deal IF we buy the switch.
Still missing the MAJOR features of the WiiU that made the title succesful. /sigh
As WiiU owner of this title, I see ZERO reason to buy the 3DS version. /sad
Mario Maker 3DS made me think :
1. 3DS version looks worthy due to portability, 8 until 32 bit graphics and cheaper price.
2. Wii U version have better functions but not worthy for a console due to graphic style and more expensive price.
I still can't decide to put that title on my shopping list. But December 2016 will be my purchase for Animal Crossing New Leaf Welcome Amiibo, even though I have already owned Animal Crossing New Leaf 3 years ago. Yay, 2 towns.
