Almost nine minutes of footage from the Australian field test of Pokémon GO has appeared online, giving us the best look yet at this forthcoming mobile release.
The clip shows the player selecting their avatar and taking to the streets to track down wild Pokémon. As you can see, encounters make use of Augmented Reality to superimpose the 'mon on the view captured by your phone's rear-facing camera. Combat seems a little simplistic at present, and lacks the turn-based tactics of the mainline Pokémon series.
The beta release in Australia and New Zealand is the first time that the game has been made available in English, and comes a month after the first field test in Japan.
No solid release date has been given for Pokémon GO as yet.

still excited for this!
this 'leak' couldn't possibly be to placate all those people they just pissed off. must only be a coincidence.
I should be thrilled to finally see footage, but those weird pants and knee-high socks are very distracting, not in a good way....
Doesn't look great, I've got to say; I'll hold off on a final judgement until it's actually out but at the moment this looks kind of awful.
I did still get an "Ingress" vibe, but I don't mean that in a bad way. At the very least this should extend some of my walks with my dog, so she'll be pleased
Sorry, but I think this looks crap. If mobile gaming is the future, then I won't be a gamer for much longer. I wish this trend would just die so that real gaming could continue to live on.
What's with the high golf socks? And why don't they stick with the style established in the other pokémon games? I'm still really curious about this game, but I feel like I'm starting to see the effects of Nintendo not caring so much about how affiliated developers treat their IPs...
This looks really bad '-'
Is it gen 1 only?!?
Really weird that you don't fight and weaken wild pokemon before catching them...
@Tsurii
are you serious? Every step forward Nintendo tries to make they slip on their own banana like in mario kart and fall back.
Not surprised that it doesn't look very good. I always thought people were giving this way more hype than it deserved.
So much whining for the first game where you can leave your house, travel the world and catch Pokemon...
@Tsurii @Yalari
You do realize that this will probably be updated to include other gens over time right?
This looks pretty good, not sure why everyone is complaining about it.
Dear oh dear.You lot have to understand this has to work on mostly if not All phone devices,Not everyone has Top of range phone ,I myself have Note 4 Edge I must admit it's not graphically impressive but as long as core game play(hopefully) is there who cares.Also when your on the move and walking around ouside you can't make it to hardcore because your not just sitting at home on a seat safely.If this was on 3DS you would have same problem.Away it's sort of trial run on mobiles it's not as thought there scrapping it for there portable ect.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
This is exactly what I wanted from the trailer. Something fun, doesn't have to be graphically impressive, or overly complicated, but fun. It'll be a good excuse for me to go on some nice long walks
Looks pretty decent! Seems like a fun game to play on long walks.
this doesn't look fun
HYPE!
@Yalari Maybe Australia is the Kanto of the real world.
Looks underwhelming and unpolished.
I think this looks pretty good, and functions nicely.
All of you naysayers have awful opinions, and you're judging it based off of nothing. This game does what it sets out to do, and being bothered by little aesthetic things is just being outright nitpicky.
This looks pretty neat so far, and the augmented reality kind of reminds me of a piece of fan fiction I read ages ago where Pokemon did exist in a world parallel to ours. You needed a special device to see and interact with them.
The only truly disappointing thing is that you can't battle Pokemon out in the field (ignoring gym battles) and instead just lob Pokeballs at them. I'm also getting Ingress vibes from this, but I don't feel like that's a bad thing.
Everyone in the comments: "Wow, a pre-release game that's currently in the early stages of its closed beta doesn't look polished. How surprising!" Seriously, wait until it comes out, then you can bash it all you want.
sigh I just bet this is gonna take up every ounce of space I have...if I have enough that is...
@OneArmedGiant I'm sure NX will give you plenty to sink your teeth into...
That character customization looks so basic. You can change the eyes a little and just the colors of everything else.
And I know it's still in beta, I'm just saying.
Personally I prefer more anime styled characters myself, as has been the norm for Pokemon games thus far.
Hmm, not really sure how I feel about this for right now at least, but I'll hold my thoughts for when it releases.
Some people need to realise this is a closed beta/ closed feild test. This footage wasnt even intended to be shown, im sure some elements could and will be changed (such as the amount of pokemon). As for the graphics who cares, it looks good enough especially since it is utalising a real time real world GPS map. People cant expect a 3ds graphic style out of a game designed like this that needs to be played on as many phones as possible, be them powerful or not.
Looks okayyyy, but dem trainer models tho...
@Freeon-Leon It's not like Kanto is literally named after a region in Japan or anything.
@JubilifeRival You don't say!
But come on, it was just for the laughs.
@Freeon-Leon I was kidding as well.
@JubilifeRival Then joke's on me
Or is it
