Remember the Sonic Classic Collection released on the DS in 2010? As neat as it was, it was also slightly underwhelming when there were far more extensive Sonic-themed collections already available on other platforms for much cheaper prices.
Fansite The Sonic Stadium has now uncovered new information regarding this collection via a portfolio of a former SEGA Studios Australia employee. During the title's development, there were plans to include Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast and the puzzle game, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine in the collection.
The former SEGA employee's resume also indicates video content for the Sonic collection was considered at one point (as can be seen in the top picture), and features concept art for a Crazy Taxi 4 pitch made by SEGA Studios Australia.
Let us know in the comments if you played the Sonic Classic Collection during the prime of the DS, and if you would like to see it or the Crazy Taxi series return in the near future.

You messed up the bold font at the end there mate.
I demand a 3DS follow-up.
I would love some portable Crazy Taxi
I did buy this when it came out, pretty cool as is, but extras would have always been welcome. As for Crazy Taxi? YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!.... Loved that Offspring song on the 1st game:)
"Let us know in the comments if you"
Would you please stop that altogether? We know there is a comment section and we know what to post there. Thank you.
How many times is it gonna take til' someone around Sega hears what we have to say........Another Crazy Taxi game that's not the mobile one plz?
..........And another Ristar game with some Streets of rage,2 much to handle? I hope not : P
@KeeperBvK They do that to entice more comments which makes their site more attractive to advertisers. Why do you think they do so little to stop arguments down here?
Well, I liked Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast. I could go for another one.
I would have liked the extra sonic content. I still pop that game in often on my new 3ds. Never played crazy taxi though.
Never really been a fan of Sonic
@KeeperBvK Lifehack for you: Simply stop reading the last paragraph on articles and you will become 0.3% happier as a person. Also that way NL can continue to encourage people to use the comments and increase their revenue with extra hits, meaning the continued survival of the site while not offending you personally -everyones a winner dude!
On topic I'd love another Crazy Taxi but I'd be scared Sega would mess it up. Would like to see a HD collection of the first 3 though.
@Chaotic_Eevee It's more that we know how fruitless our efforts can be if we try to get involved in said arguments. It's better to just let them burn out naturally.
That taxi on the right looks like a Ford Falcon, very fitting from Sega Aus haha.
@KeeperBvK I think it's quite reasonable to leave 'let us know in the comments' as it focuses the conversation in the comment section such as asking if we would like to see another crazy taxi.
Judge, and ye be judged.
Crazy Taxi back? You'd be crazy not to!
I really don't care two craps about Sonic's Spinball, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and Sonic 3D Blast as long as the main games and the lock-on features are on the compilation fully intact (unlike Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection where they got dropped). For one Mean Bean Machine is a Puyo clone so we already had a bunch of Puyo games on DS already both on launch and as import, as for Sonic's Spinball we got that with GBA and Sonic 3D Blast is probably going to be the crappy Genesis port anyways so no one ain't gonna care about that one.
My final verdict for Sonic Classic Collection, it's good the way it is and totally makes up for the crappy Sonic Genesis Anniversary port on GBA. it was nice that they were going to include those but I had to say for the DS, I'm glad they made the right choice and just kept the main games. Now if only they put a few Game Gear Sonic games in there, those would be some great icing on this DS collection cake.
Crazy Taxi on 3DS - hell yeah 👍
If only Sega would fire out a 3DS version with a bunch more stuff. I do love what M2 has done though. Still i wish all of it was as pretty as Generations.
Sounds interesting, but personally I think it was a good thing that 3D Blast didn't make it, although the I am intrigued to see what it would look like on DS.
And, as a side note, Sonic Adventure 3! Either that, or an Adventure and Adventure 2 remake on Wii U!
Sonic Classics Collection on DS was amazing. More games would have been welcome, but I suspect that I still would have spent all of my time on the original platformers. SEGA did something similar with the Mega collections on PS2. At some point in development they must have thought, 'hang on, we can milk this a bit!' and split it into 2 games.
Sonic Jam on the Saturn is still the best compilation of the classic Mega Drive games.
@KeeperBvK I feel it is fairly obvious that that part which is in every article is more so intended for the new users that join this site everyday so is it really something that needs to be complained about.
@KeeperBvK Same principle as YouTubers asking you to subscribe at the end of their videos. It's never going to go away so I guess if it annoys you, don't read it, your only option
This will probably be the only way we see Mega Drive games on the Wii U, assuming SEGA get Sonic Advance out of Japan first...
Course, if you're looking for an insult to throw at SEGA.... XD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjuhnuwFBQw
More Crazy Taxi would be an excellent idea, so that means there's zero chance of Sega doing it.
That said, there was an appalling F2P Crazy Taxi released on the iPhone recently which sank without trace. I'm sure Sega will have interpreted that to mean no-one wants to play Crazy Taxi instead of correctly divining that no-one wants to play rip-off F2P stuff...
I still have it, was great to play Sonic on the go but has some weird technical issues...
The resolution was kind of squashed so it looked more like the PAL version but with 60Hz speed, the music just changed pitch instead of speeding up when you got the speed shoes, and the credits for Sonic 2 were actually cut off the screen if you finished the game! Showed how they'd just cropped the image. As Sonic emulation goes... way better than SEGA Smash Pack on the Dreamcast, but not as good as Mega Collection on the Gamecube.
Still, I played the games a fair amount at the time, as the first Sonic remains one of my favorite ever computer games.
I completed both Crazy Taxi games 100% on Dreamcast, the challenges got pretty difficult later and those Dreamcast analogue triggers started to cause pain! Never played the 3rd on the Xbox, was a great arcade game though.
@KeeperBvK I know its annoying but I guess the reason behind it is so to ask comments. I mean, how else can you put it nicely?
i hope that this game release on the wii u virtual console
Hey, hey, hey... Time to cancel some CRAZY projects!
If we're talking Crazy Taxi on the go, don't forget Crazy Taxi: Catch a Ride for the GBA - where they actually tried to put the full 1st game on the GBA. It's in full 3D, but also a mess to look at. It's interesting as a curiousity though.
I also had Crazy Taxi 1&2 on my PSP (Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars). To date, I think it's the only way to play Crazy Taxi 2 outside of the Dreamcast. They're missing the original music and licensed stores, but it's still fun.
Weirdly, it's the only digital PSP game I bought that I can't re-download to my Vita. So it's trapped on my PSP forever.
I actually loved this game, as it was my first experience with the Classic Sonic games. More games on it would have been a blast, but I can't fault a game that introduced me to the gloriousness of S3&K....
I liked this collection a lot. It had everything necessary to kindle my nostalgia... but I never got a chance to play Sonic 3D Blast as a kid. Am I missing much?
I have this collection, still need to actually beat it though. And Crazy Taxi is awesome!
@vincentgoodwin I think the Xbox version Crazy Taxi 3 has the city from '2' and the 'Crazy Hop', but I've never played it...
I also have the PS3 Dreamcast port of the first game and the PSP version (which does have custom soundtracks!).
With the PSP game, I think you can transfer it from a PS3 (if you have one) to a Vita, even if you cant download it straight onto the system.
I had crazy taxi on the gamecube and it was always one of those games you can go back to and play. Still do, I have that and Smashing Drive, the other crazy taxi simulation. I wouldn't mind seeing another iteration of Crazy Taxi for the 3DS.
As for the sonic collection, I didn't even go for it. I have so many versions of sonic (plug'n'plays, sega genesis, atgames sega portable) so really didn't see the need for me.
I just want like a sonic adventure1/2 remake (that isn't as glitchy as DX), or a new sonic game altogether that doesn't suck. Something like rush, advance, classic, colors, or generations would be nice. Hopefully sonic boom fire and ice will be like rush or advance
I used to have it for my DSi. It was a nice little collection. But, I got rid of it once I downloaded the Genesis games on my Wii and PC.
"As neat as it was"
It was garbage.
Since Sonic Classic Collection is complete and utterly crap (None of the games actually runs like the original, lag everywhere, graphical glitches everywhere, the audio is terrible, removing a lot of small things from the original games, ect, seriously it was anything but neat) I doubt this would made it a better package. I would rather not have Crazy Tazi completely ruin too Sega.
I really hope SEGA considers bringing back their Virtual Console games to the Wii U eShop, and add to the collection with Saturn and Dreamcast titles, albeit some of their own Dreamcast titles were also re-released on the GameCube, but demand for GameCube Virtual Console games has been on-going for a long time anyway.
I have the DS collection and i liked it a lot! i'm sad that there was no Sonic CD on it because that and 3 were the only ones of the classic sonic games i never got to play.
i KNEW it felt unfinished, now i know why
