With this coming weekend being the spookiest of the year, the latest Nintendo Download Update details for Europe show us that the big N's keen to keep us all entertained in the safety of our own homes, avoiding the ghouls outside. This week is packed with new titles on Wii U and 3DS, some appealing retro games and even a long awaited Wii Virtual Console return for a classic Rare trilogy. Lots to cover, so let's get started.
Wii U eShop
Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones (Curve Studios, €13.99 / £12.99) — The announcement that this series sequel was a Wii U exclusive certainly surprised those that had played the original on non-Nintendo systems, though Curve Studios has a history of working on Nintendo platforms. This tough platformer combines Metroidvania-style exploration with challenging Test Chambers, with various items and power-ups to control; we'll bring you our review alongside its release this week.
Cosmophony (Moving Player, €3.99 / £3.59) — Fans of music rhythm games should certainly take note of this one, as it's a DrumAndBass rhythmic shooter in which the music is integral to gameplay. It's colourful and action packed; we'll bring you our review soon.
Falling Skies: The Game (Little Orbit, €39.99/ £34.99) — A retail title coming to Wii U as an eShop-only release, this is a 'tactical strategy RPG' in which you resist the invading alien forces that have overwhelmed the world. Based on the TV show of the first name, we can only hope that it's not a sloppy tie-in.
Tetrobot & Co. (Neko Entertainment, €9.99 / £7.49) — Neko continues its run of smart device game ports to Wii U with this puzzler, in which you explore puzzles, absorb parts of the environment and try to escape. This looks relatively promising, and supports a variety of control schemes, so we'll check it out and let you know what we think.
Wii U Virtual Console
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble (Nintendo, €7.99 / £5.49) — The final game of this series on the Super NES, now the Kremlings have managed to kidnap both DK and Diddy, leaving the rescuing down to Dixie and Kiddy. Aside from expanding the cast once again, this also throws in two-player team play and contests; we'll swing into it again, but in the meantime you can check out the glowing recommendation in our Wii Virtual Console Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble review. This is the US version of the game.
Devil World (Nintendo, €4.99 / £3.49) — A less-heralded early effort by Shigeru Miyamoto. This arcade-style action game shows a strong influence from Pac-Man, but somewhat confuses the simple concept and struggles to be wholly entertaining; you can read more about it in our 3DS Virtual Console Devil World review.
Wii U Retail Download
Jett Tailfin (Funbox, €19.99/ £17.99) — This aquatic racer swims across to Wii U from smart device platforms and is a hugely disappointing experience, as we explain in our Jett Tailfin review.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discount
Zen Pinball 2: Doctor Strange Table (Zen Studios, €1.49 / £1.19 until 3rd November, normally €2.99 / £2.39)
Zen Pinball 2: The Walking Dead Table (Zen Studios, €1.49 / £1.19 until 3rd November, normally €2.99 / £2.39)

Donkey Kong Promotion — Wii U
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Nintendo, €33.49 / £26.79, normally €49.99 / £39.99) — To take advantage of this offer you must buy a classic Donkey Kong game from the eShop on the same Wii U. This includes Donkey Kong Country on 16th October, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest on 23rd October and Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble on 30th October.
3DS eShop
Shin Megami Tensei IV (Atlus, €19.99 / £17.99) — It's taken some time but this terrific dungeon crawling RPG, which has non-linear story elements and excellent writing, finally arrives in Europe. It's download-only in the region but does also come at a lower-than-standard price point, making this a tempting proposition this Halloween. You can read our glowing assessment in this Shin Megami Tensei IV review.
Zombie Panic in Wonderland DX (Akaoni Studio, €5.00 / £4.50) — With a charming approach to utilising familiar fairytale characters in a quirky setting, this is an action gallery shooter that was originally released on WiiWare. We'll see whether this is perfect for some Halloween gaming in our upcoming review.
ARC STYLE: Baseball 3D (ARC System Works, €1.99 / £1.79) — This budget-priced sports game delivers a decent pitch of content with three modes and local play — including Download Play — though, in our experience, throws a Foul Ball. Repetitive gameplay and some odd structure issues meant we only gave this 5/10 in our ARC STYLE: Baseball 3D review.
Undead Bowling (Joindots, €6.99 / £5.99) — The name rather says it all, here, as you bowl at zombies to stop them from reaching you and feasting on your flesh, which could happen in any bowling alley at this time of year. Though not perfect, we still gave this a respectable 6/10 in our Undead Bowling review.
3DS Virtual Console
Donkey Kong Land III (Nintendo, €3.99 / £3.59) — The concluding part of the trilogy on Game Boy, Dixie and Kiddy go off in search of the Lost World ahead of DK and Diddy. We'll bring you a review of this soon.
Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness (Capcom, €4.99 / £4.39) — A NES prequel to the Game Boy original, in this entry you play as Firebrand in a mixture of overworld and side-scrolling environments. We were big fans of this in our Wii U Virtual Console Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness review.

Uh, Donkey Kong is back in EU? Okay then.
Glad to see SMTIV made it across the pond!
@ThomasBW84 Under Cosmophony, it should be take note, not take not. :3
And yet, no GBA Castlevania or Vampire's Kiss, what's going on Konami?
So disappointed. Again.
I know we've got DK which is great, but I would really love to see Demon's Crest in Europe VC
GODS DAMN IT, SHIN MEGOOMY TENSAY.
Ahem. Finally. Plz plz giev smtz, kthxbai.
So DKC 3 is back to being the US version, yet they released a stuttering PAL version of DKC 2...
Stealth Inc 2 and DKC3 for me this week.
Quite a good week. DKC3 and SMTIV for sure, and maybe Stealth Inc 2 Id reviews are good.
Just DKC3 for me. Devil World when it'll be on sale. I'll get Stealth Inc 2 next week if it'll get good reviews since my eShop credit balance won't be enough for this month (blame DKCTF tempting-me-to-double-dip promo).
@JoakimZ
Well, we just got the DKC trilogy. Maybe we'll get GBA Castlevanias and Dracula X in the coming weeks. I hope Megaman 7 & X3 too and Demon Crest.
@Sonic_Phantom This makes no sense. Why would they make the first and third games NTSC but not the second which is generally considered the best? Nintendo, you dun goof'd!
As much as I'd like to buy stealth inc 2, probably, I'm not going to for the foreseeable future.
I got some bayonetta, hyrule warriors and smash to play soon.
Stealth Inc 2 for me, I expect Wii U owners to put their money where their mouths are and support this game (providing its as good as the first and bug free of course).
Fallen Skies is abit pricey considering it reviewed so badly on PC where it was also over priced. Its a fun X-com clone but the PC version is riddled with bugs so anyone interested should hold off until its reviewed to see if they remain. Any idea of the DL size? Its 8GB on PC.
SMT4 is a no for now as i simply don't have time for it with all the amazing games just released and on the horizon.
Stealth Inc. 2 of course.
I'll support Stealth 2 because they're supporting the Wii U with an exclusive great game
@whodatninja
I cannot get my head around this sort of thing. It's as if someone at NoE enjoys trolling the minority who cares enough (like me!).
It's even worse that Wii U forces 60hz onto 50hz games which creates an odd stutter - this is not a problem in Wii mode so why they won't patch it for Wii U mode is baffling.
Has to be SMT IV for me.
Stealth Inc 2, absolutely! That game got a great review in ONM, but that review only covered the gameplay (not the co-op mode or the editor). The game footage I've seen so far has been brilliant.
And will most probably get Tetrobot & Co as well. And perhaps Cosmophony. I'll also get DKC 3, just to have the complete trilogy. Too much games now...
very interesting to see DKC back on the Wii VC. Wo9nder what the issue was all along?
Ah well, snap them all up again before the "issue" pokes its ugly head again...
SMTIV...finally!
Aaaahhh ! Shin Megami Tensei IV this week and Shovel Knight next week !
My poor wallet !!!!
@Ichiban good choices. The first Stealth Inc. was great and SNES DK games are fantastic.
yes, DKL III! One of only 3 GB games I had growing up (the other two were Toy Story and Asterix lol)
i think i want one of the DK games this week, though can't pick which
@Hathers1953 ugh oh, SPAM ALERT!
Nothing for me this week. Just finished Evil Within and now back to hyrule warrior's and bay1&2 will not be opened fir a while. Then new Mario kart stuff and then watch dogs and smash. So many games!
I'll add stealth Inc 2 to my watch list, still have to play the first one on the vita.
Aw, man... When is the US getting Devil World too??
Confirmed discount on the Walking Dead table. Already have access to Gargoyle's Quest 2. Access to original DKC trilogy. Should be fine BUT..
It's Europe, so not having access to Demon's Crest is Nintendo 'dropping the ball'.
I'd be profane if I could.
ONE GAME.
In exchange for the ENTIRE DKC TRILOGY.
Was hoping for a sale on games like castlevania for Halloween.
Did not see this coming, they put back the original DKC trilogy on the Wii's virtual console.
@GeminiSaint Never, they would have to find a new name first.
Nice to see the original trilogy back on the Wii shop.
Wow, the. original DKC Trilogy back? I'm impressed. I remember when the titles were taken away.
DKC 1 & 3 are US 60hz and DKC 2 widely regarded as the best in the series is the slow Pal 50hz version, well done Nintendo, continuity is key.
Only got into DKC since 3DS version, always thought it was too challenging. Since then I've played Tropical Freeze, and I'll play the first 3 on Wii U VC sometime.
DKC3 and DKL3 for me.
Yay Devil World! Should get a discount as I originally bought it on the Wii.
Not a bad week, but nothing for me personally.
@ThomasBW84 According to the European eShop, Costume Quest 2 is listed for October 30th as well.
@jariw So it is... I've asked Nintendo for clarification, thanks!
Stealth Inc 2
The first one was awesome
I almost hope Falling Skies is terrible so I don't feel bad for not being able to afford it with Bayonetta 2 having sucked up most of my gaming budget for this month!
It kinda looks like a cross between Jagged Alliance and Front Mission...but we'll see!
DK3!!! as I stupidly missed buying it on the Wii VC, I only grabbed the first two.
Still no Kirby Fighters Z & DeDeDe's Drum Dash Z ??
@readyletsgo
You shouldn't reply to them. Just report them. Mentioning the post makes people more likely to see it, and more likely to follow the spam. Anyway...
@manu0
If the word "devil" is so terribly obscene, they could just erase the D and call it "Evil World". It's not that hard.
SMT4 probably and maybe use premium code to get it little cheaper
Congrats on SMTIV. @ that price, it should be a no brainer! Curious to see if it will sell @ all ^^
I want Stealth Inc 2 and SMT4 so much, that I cannot vote for just one.
Hey hey hey!!! I just saw, that the Costume Quest 2 is also coming to take my money!
@ThomasBW84 Do we have DK VC confirmation for the US yet?
@GamecubeComplex Not yet. Some VC releases have been announced for next month and DKC or DKL isn't one of them. It's still possible though
I'm not sure whether to go crazy on the e shop before the reward scheme ends.......hmmmmm. Will get the walking dead pinball table and give that a whirl and wait for falling skies reviews. Also, I loves me a demo
I will get both Zen Pinball tables.
The Walking Dead table must have sold like poopoodoodoocacapoopledoople, when its on sale already.
I own 17 tables on Wii U, but i miss the 2 on sale.
I won't get Stealth Inc. 2 for a good reason. I own the firs on both PS3 and VITA, but its not a game for me at all.
@ULTRA-64
Forgive me for asking, but do you mean the Nintendo network premium, from buying the premium pack, and if so, why and when is it ending?
@ZenTurtle Nintendo Premium Network was free with purchasing and registering a black (32GB) Wii U. You basically get 10 percent of eShop purchases back as credit. It ends December 2014.
My recommendations for 3ds Europe. 3d baseball by arc systems is an excellent arcade style baseball game with excellent play controls and hidden teams to beat. Great game of baseball for cheap. Now my favorite game on the system shen megami tensei IV absolutely one of the best games on 3ds. I just started playing Fantasy Life and gotta say best game on 3ds. Just excellent huge RPG world to explore. Its beautiful
Oh, the Donkey kong country games are also back on the Wii vc. Wise move Nintendo!!
Damn it took long for Shin Megami Tensei to get to Europe. At least it actually finally is coming, same can`t be said about Nicalis games...
Stealth Inc 2 is the diamond of this week, have to get it when I get back from vacation.
@Nico07
Thanks.
Is the catrige for donkey kong land yellow in the 3ds icon thingi, like it was for the original cart?
