Update:
For those in attendance at Comic-Con, there'll also be an opportunity to have Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS brought to you for surprise game time, details in the tweet below.
Original Article:
Nintendo has big plans for San Diego Comic-Con this week, with a broad selection of demos being joined by some exciting tournaments and events.
Perhaps most exciting is the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS tournament, in which attendees will duke it out to stand tall as one of the earliest champions in the portable entry of the series. The company has now confirmed when live streams of the contest will kick off — it'll be on the Nintendo Twitch channel over two days, starting on Friday 25th July at 11:30 Pacific / 14:30 Eastern / 19:30 UK / 20:30 CET.
Nintendo also previously announced a fun event in which gamers playing Mario Kart 8 at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge in San Diego will compete with players around the world through online Tournaments. The graphic below shows the times (Pacific) and codes to join in.
Will you be watching the Smash Bros. 3DS tournament or joining in with MK8 tournaments? Let us know.

I will be playing in the mario kart 8 tournament, if i remember when it starts.
I think E3 started a new trend for Nintendo. By streaming the events they're at is just excellent fan service.
Awesome! Can't wait to play in the MK8 online tournaments, sounds really fun
@BigH88 I 100% agree!
Can we get a newcomer?
Hopefully Nintendo will reconsider the application for Twitch that should be implemented into the Wii U.
So let me get this straight. Nintendo is willing to run Mario Kart tournaments with item restrictions but not Smash?
And to answer the original question I'll only be watching the Smash tournament, even if it's done in a poor non sensual format.
@DarkKirby So what? Why the hell does it matter? There are items in the game and they should be utilized, if it was just another boring average tournament then why bother? That tournament was great you cant call it poor just because you don't like it personally or what most tourney's consider "Stranded" it was a nice change to what is always done. Also "Sensual"? Because its not like the creators of the game should decide what to do.
@JSaario
Do you even understand what's wrong with a free for all timed/stock format and sudden death giving the advantage to people who were possibly losing and ran to timer scam?
Realistically, the best way to win a free for all timed/stock match is to stay out of the fight. Which is exactly what many people at the E3 2014 tournament who did well and made it to the end DID. Stay out of the fight, except to sometimes grab the Smash Ball (to prevent it from being used on you) or some of the more overpowered items. Staying out of the fight has always been the most reliable way to win free for all timed/stock matches, it still is, and if you run a tournament in that format people are going to play the same way, by staying out of the fight.
And the winner when time is up should always be the person with the least percentage and/or more stocks, it should NEVER go to sudden death unless they are exactly equal. You should NEVER have a reason to run away for the timer scam if you are LOSING.
@DarkKirby So the best way to run a tournament is to be boring and typical, and if you don't get what you want you should throw a fight and disgustingly complain...Yeah that sounds like competitive Smash players alright. The items and sudden death made it more exciting may I remind you of the Megaman part? That couldn't be done at a regular tourney, Excitement, Hype, and fun thats what there doing and thats something normal tourneys wont ever do. Plus the sudden death wouldn't make much of a difference either they were both going to be smashed out of stage the next hit regardless it just made things more exciting. Not to mention it was the FIRST tourney ever for a game thats not even out yet. Do you people realize how stupid it is to complain about it? He won that tournament fair and square using the mechanics of the game skillfully people just don't like him personally and don't like how he played and because of that there complaining. What is it that everyone says about Smash bros? "No Johns?" Well why isn't it applied here? That tourney was perfectly fair Items is a main draw for the Smash series they should be used.
Hype train incominf
@JSaario
Much of your response plain doesn't make sense. You are being a casual elitist accusing me of being a competitive elitist, and have basically ignored responding to the key problem with the free for all timed/stock format, being how it's advantageous for people to stay out of the battle. Remind me of the "Megaman part"? Remind me of what and how is that relevant to tournament format? Sudden death absolutely makes a difference. The Grand Finals at E3 2014 is a perfect example of why it makes a difference, assuming you watched it. You should not have a reason to be running way for the timer scam if you are losing a match to intentionally go to sudden death where you are back to even or possibly at an advantage, based on the characters involved. Again, what does the E3 2014 tournament being the 1st tournament for Smash 4 have to do with the tournament format being poor.
You edited your post.
Zero did win the tournament fair and square, the problem was, as I said before, the tournament format, not the players. Zero cannot be faulted for abusing the abusable tournament format. The fault lies in the chosen tournament format which is abusable.
Now, I might be corny or whatever, but WHY DON'T THEY JUST GIVE US A DEMO ON THE ESHOP
@DarkKirby That "tournament" was a straight up joke due to the rules involved. With that being said, it was more of a way to show how hectic smash can really be.
Edit: Crap this comment was meant to the other guy..
And anyone who think that the "tournament" was legit is completely out of their minds.
@DarkKirby Its not abusable thats just what Smash bros is. And I don't know why you cant understand anything I've said.
@ajr12388 Your just the usual butthurt competitive player, your opinions worth nothing.
I'm doing both. Even leaving work early to do it. Can't wait.
@ajr12388 The Invitational was a PR tournament to show off the game, not a serious competition. That's why they chose the format that they did.
@AlexSora89 Ikr? It's not fair to those of us who wasn't able to go to Smashfest or E3, and it's also not fair to us who can't make it to SDCC.
@WarioMan
We'll just have to swallow the bitter chunk.
@JSaario Damn HA with the comments you're making you must really hate competitive players huh old sport?
@midnafanboy Hate them? After the kind of crap I have heard and seen after E3 I have lost all respect for competitive gamers, I find them nothing but good for nothing low life's that will talk crap and ridicule the hell out of everything if it doesn't meet their perfect standards. Especially for Smash Bros. It is incredibly divided between people who want to play competitively and people who want to enjoy themselves and have fun for some reason there cant be coexistence between the two.
@JSaario I can agree with you, that they want this smash bros to not be perfect.But to be the new melee which they can't forget for some reason,is sad that's why i don't respect competitive players, cause they think this game is for them. So yeah i agree with you about competitive players and their odd ideas about this game.
Might play some Mario Kart 8 if i find the time.
This will be a perfect opportunity to practice for the Nintendo Life tournament on Saturday. I'll definitely be on tonight (and maybe tomorrow too)!
@midnafanboy @JSaario No one has said this is why I find the internet so annoying it has just got a bunch of haters like you two who take a couple of comments posted by randoms and generalize the whole thing, shameful way of looking at things and sad because both your posts are generic as they come.
@Jazzer94 Hmm i don't care, i would love to have an argument about my opinion.But i'm in a very good mood today, so i will not. So have a nice day old sport.
@midnafanboy Good thing I don't want to have an argument then, just wanted to voice my displeasure at seeing horribly generic and misguided comments that never explain themselves.
@Jazzer94 Bro i would love too tell you my reasons,but i had this same argument about competitive players a long time ago. And it was unending i don't want too do that again. So i'm just going to say sorry and walk away.
@midnafanboy I think that would be the best decision for both of us.
I can't wait to play Mario Cart 8. I haven't got a chance yet. The last one was cracked head addicting ahah
