Although it's been available in PAL regions and North America since March, Mario Party 9 has only just been released in Japan. The Media Create charts, as reported by Andriasang, report that it sold 152,883 copies in its debut week, earning it second place in the charts behind the PS3 version of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
The 3DS had three titles in the software top 10, meanwhile, with Fire Emblem: Awakening in third place and surpassing 300,000 lifetime sales in just its second week: Super Mario 3D Land and Dynasty Warriors Vs finished in ninth and tenth respectively.
3DS hardware sales were dominant once again, its total of 74,282 being higher than all other consoles combined. The fading Wii enjoyed a small bump in sales, no doubt thanks to Mario Party 9, but still missed five figures with 9,200 units sold. Overall, it's a continuation of the good times for Nintendo in its homeland.

Yay! I wonder when we will get MH3G? ME WANTS SO BAD!!!
MP9's mini games are the best in a MP game in a good while, but the tables are too pissingly luck-based. Anyway, my little brother bought the game and I've enjoyed my short time with it.
i personally prefer rhythm heaven instead, not only cause it is cheaper but i had a lot of fun with that game.
I think MP9 is pretty fun, actually, way better than MP8 at least. Even though the mini games are a bit too random at times.
Mario Party is a pretty fun game, and deserves to sell well.
Good work Nintendo.
Yeah, my parter wanted to get MP9, and her and I have enjoyed it, despite the changes made. It's quite fast-paced this time around, which is very refreshing.
I do agree that the mini games are quite good, but the luck on the boards get a bit frustrating sometimes.
I really don't understand why anyone would be buying a Wii now, let alone buying it just because of MP9. Still, glad to see the sales bump.
Operation Raccoon City of all games sold nearly twice as well. I don't know if I should be happy that it's beating a Mario Party game, or lament that a game that bad is doing well at all...in Japan.
I'm starting to get the feeling that Western 3ds buyers have been financing the Eastern 3ds users game developement, and if they were better off, we would never have gottten it.
