Wii U will boast a full range of entertainment says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, but must we really wait until Nintendo's E3 press conference on 5th June at 9am Pacific time to hear more? Perhaps not.
Fils-Aime told Spike TV that there'll be new details spread over the course of 2012:
We will be sharing information throughout the year so I won't say you'll have to wait until E3 but certainly we're not breaking new news here [at CES]. No launch date, no launch price, no launch games but we will be sharing information throughout the year on how we will be driving Wii U into households this year.
Of course we expect the mother lode of information to hit at E3, but it's nice to think we might get a few bones tossed out before then.

Oh my gosh now i'm really exited!
Hey guys! We just figured out that there's this thing called the "Internet"! I know, right! Apparently, you can do a lot of things with it. We're still researching said "Internet" and trying to figure out its role in our business. ...what was that... Really... Well I don't really see this Internet thing getting that big. I'm sure it's just a fad... What... It's been around for how long... What?... Gaming companies have already done what with it?... I see... Well, I guess we should get on that then.
Deadly silence for a few months and BAM! revolutionary foot controller - no longer need hands! And look! You can spin mii's on wuhu island around with your feet!
If they just give me F-Zero, id pay anything on #day 1. Did you hear me, Nintendo? I said "a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g"!
Could this mean games and WiiU Ware info early?
If Nintendo wants the WiiU to deliver on everything they promised they need to have an E3 presentation as jaw-dropping as possible imo. So it would make sense to tease and release minor info before it to build up excitement for the show. Saving up some information for the time between E3 and launch also seems like a good idea to keep up the hype that hopefully will have built up then.
Can't wait! Looking forward to the Wii U.
"throughout the year"
He said all of 2 complete sentences and used this phrase twice. Guess that rules out a WiiU release before Oct. (US) or Nov. (EU) {Based on my belief of them taking advantage of the 10/11/12 date on both sides of the Atlantic.}
Oh, and by "full range of entertainment" I'm guessing he means games and Netflix. Though since they already have the 3DS set up to be almost usable they might as well allow us to watch those stupid talking dinosaur videos on the WiiU screen as well.
@erv
I'm sorry, but the only thing I could think of when you said that was this.
OT: I'm still expecting the important information to hit at E3. I won't be expecting much beyond some tech rumors and company involvements.
On a positive note - I really like their "Skype/Facetime" application in the E3 video now updated with declarative statements. Plenty of old people bought the Wii for Wii Sports to play in old age homes. Plenty of old people would update their Wii to WiiU to watch their grandkids play anything. I'ld say thats a big out of the box marketing tool, bigger than Netflix even. That's what they need, a reason for the elderly to upgrade.
On a related note, I was at my sisters house setting up WiiSpeak and explaining it to her and she said - "So, it's a speaker phone." Which not only is she right but it's ridiculous because you actually need to call somebody on the phone first to get them online to use WiiSpeak. We Skype occasionally but I could see the young cousins using this a lot more.
V8 - that was freakin' hilarious.
I'ld normally make some disparaging remark about Microsoft right now only I think the Kinect is selling too well to be dissing it on a WiiU site. The bottom of my shoe may be the first thing I Skype though on my WiiU, once I find some body to exchange friend codes with that is.
I hope so, although I don't expect much before June. It would seem that the design for the console and controller are final however, based on Reggies comments from the Spike TV interview. Unfortunately, we still don't know what's inside that beautiful box yet, and I wager we won't have any idea until E3, when it's likely the first official games will be shown for the first time.
Wonder what the price would be. I've heard of Projections of up to $500!!! If it's any more than $300 I'm not buying it and going for PS4/X720
Whatever will be, will be. The future is not ours to see.
Will Pikmin 3 be shown off with it?
Oh, damn! I'm so excited I can't stay in my pants. x)
@LuigiSmash98 nintendo already relized the mistake they made when pricing the 3ds at $250, so they cut the price. I highly doubt they will sell the WiiU at $500 because no one will buy it, especially if the rumor that Microsoft and Sony will reveal their new consoles at e3 this year Is true (I think it's highly unlikely) and it would cause many people to hold off from buying the WiiU. Price has always been one of Nintendo's selling points, which is why their consoles sell so well ($169 nintendo 3ds and $40 for a game or $250 playstation vita and almost another $100 dollars for a memory card and game?) and with that being said I see the WiiU being anywhere from $250 to $350.
yes!!! just in time for by B-DAY!!
I'm guessing it's gonna cost somewhere between $350 - $400 with tablets costing about $80-$100 and most likely only needing one extra to begin with. If they're smart, they'll save 8 player WiiU-only (not supporting 3DS connectivity) games until at least a year into it's life.
@V8 LOL!
The worrying part? It has actually been done...
Its all good as long as u show us something worth while
