Not-Japan may have just gotten their hands on the excellent remakes of Pokémon Gold and Silver, but that doesn't mean the Pokemans are taking a break. Far from it, in fact, as the names of the first 5th generation of games has been revealed: Black and White.
It's certainly been a while since we've seen brand-new Pokémon RPGs; the 4th generation launched in 2006 with Diamond and Pearl.
The official Japanese Pokémon site notes the date April 15, where we expect a bigger feature reveal and hopefully some in-game footage.
Pokémon Black and White will launch in Japan this fall for the 2DS.

well, they might do what they did with Gold, Silver and Crystal. They made Gold and Silver "type 2" games so they had some of the benefits of the GB Color (like IR and.. Colour) whilst still maintaining backwards compatibility. Then they released Crystal and by then the GBC was popular enough that they could drop original GB support and do more animations and whatnot.
The 3DS won't be out until next year so why would they make these games which are being released THIS year in Japan 3DS exclusive? Having said that, they might "code in" some 3D stuffs and there is no reason why Pokemon..... umm... Grey can't be a 3DS exclusive game. The third in gen 5 could even be a launch title for the 3DS. Why not?

I just went back to my childhood by playing HeartGold (I haven't even completed theKanto plot..), and I expected new editions to be announced, but if it's gonna follow the same old formula with just little additions to the main plot, I'm going to stop again.
I already skipped the first half of GEN IV; too many legendaries, too many Pokemon that are useless (I know there were many useless Pokemans in previous editions, too, but still..) and nothing new to get me excited about them. I don't even complain about the current games not being fully 3D rendered, but it's time for the new games to be in 3D (not the 3D you are thinking of, not the feature of the 3DS).
And why, dear Nintendo, have you still not announced the Pokemon MMO we are all waiting for ?
I just really hope they do something to push the series in a better direction. Just adding new Pokemon isn't working anymore. Know what I mean?
I can see why it is for the normal ds because technically the 3DS wasn't supposed to be announced for some time now.
I don't care what console it's on I just want it to work with the Pokewalker! But it would be cool on a 3DS I just don't know how it would work on one.
Its probably gonna be like gen 3, Pokemon Emerald was out when the DS was already released, and there are probably gonna be spin-offs on the 3DS until 6th gen, like with Pokemon Dash, Ranger etc.
Besides it would be a dumb idea to release it for 3DS already, as most people won't even have it yet, they did the same thing with Pokemon Emerald the DS was already out, but it was still released it for the GBA, the DS was still too new to put something as big as the new Pokemon game on.
They need to hurry up an create a Wii version, mmo, or a semi-online 3D Wii game.
Pokemon, for me has grown rather stale and I stopped buying and playing them a long time ago because they need to make some larger changes or updates.

Haha, nice. I believe it was announced long ago that the next reboot of the series will not occur until after the fifth generation, so you'll be able to continue transferring GBA Pokemon (which feels wayyy outdated now).
Possibly the third edition will make the jump to 3DS, but will keep the connectivity intact.
THIS MAYBE THE FIRST CHANCE WE CAN HAVE THE DARK POKEMON: ex. Dark Lugia, Dark Mewtwo (ha ha), Dark Celebi, etc.
If so then this game will be better than the others, except for the gamecube. lol
Whatever region Black & White goes to, they should do what Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver is doing and trek into another region halfway through the game. It should be Hoenn. That way, you have all five regions on one generation. Eh? How about that one?

What?! A new generation already?! They are breaking the trend here. The next generation needs to launch on the next gen console (which would be the 3DS). Nintendo should wait 'till they at least announce the 3DS in a conference or something. And speaking of waiting.... why so soon? April 15 is only 6 days away, and not only that, but Heartgold and Soulsilver were released in Japan only 7 months ago. They should at least wait a year or two before coming out with a new game, let alone a whole new generation.
I dunno why I care, considering I'm done with Pokemon, but I just want my word out.

@Swiket: It's just the fact that with the latest names having "rich" colors after the original generation, (gold, silver, crystal, ruby, sapphire, diamond, pearl, platinum) it feels like Nintendo got lazy and just named the new games on the two most basic "colors" ever. At least name them using real colors. How about pink and orange, Nintendo?

Black and White are the best titles I've seen in the Pokémon series since Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
I just hope that doesn't cause a "OMFG NINTENDO/GAMEFREAK IZ RACIST!!!!111!!1!" stir in the US, and that Carole Boston Weatherford (the one who complained about Jynx) keeps her stupidity to herself.

If you want to talk about Pokemon being turned into a cash cow if they expanded the Pokemon universe a bit more, well, it already is.
It's just plain boring playing the same game over and over again without a lot of additions. The gameplay can stay the same, as long as they change those godawful 8-bit Pokemon crys, improve the presentation and add a good plot with some twists here and there.
But knowing Nintendo (and GameFreak), they will stick to the same formula until they start losing fans, which does not seem to happen in the near future.
Does anyone else think this might be an indication of when to expect the 3DS?
Otherwise, talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
I've never understood how being black or white is racist. I don't understand this whole racist thing anyway. I thought rasism was about picking on people of other color because they are other color. I don't see any link between that and naming Pokémon games as black and white. They are colors, dammit. It has nothing to do with human races!
Okay went a little off the topic, I just get annoyed every time people are stupid about racism. I've been called a racist a few times because I've been as rude to dark-skinned people as I've been to pale skins. Doesn't really make sense to me.
Anyway, I actually like these new games and might even buy them both. Black and White sound so COOL! I just hope that there will be more character desings to choose from.
What was so bad about the safari zone? In HGSS the safari zone is completely optional. The only games you're required to go through the safari zone is in Gen. I.
I think people are missing a key point in the write-up here: It mentions April 15th as when more INFORMATION will be revealed on the Japanese site, not when the new game will be coming out in Japan. Just because new info is coming out so soon, doesn't mean that the game will be shipping in the next few months.
Plus, HeartGold and SoulSilver are indeed remakes, and weren't meant to be considered the next chapters in the series. The last official chapters were Diamond and Pearl, and those came out quite some time ago. Looking at it that way, this comes as no surprise.

The article says it'll release in Japan in the fall... so yeah, it will be shipping in the next few months. I wouldn't expect to see them in ..."Not-Japan" for at least another year, though.
Already? I'm playing HeartGold/SoulSilver now. At least its a new one and not another remake. I'm enjoying this HG/SS remake BTW. Awesome game.

I was very surprised when I heard that Pokémon Black and White were coming out (yesterday), especially since people are just getting over HeartGold/SoulSilver. Looks like the Pokémans are hungry for more, eh? Not surprising, really.
I already have SoulSilver on my list. Now, to get or not to get...? I'm not sure whether or not I should wait for Grey, or go for SoulSilver now, and get Grey later, when it's released.
@Swiket: Well, they're just bland colors. Don't get me wrong, I like the color black, I just think they aren't as exciting as other colors. I bet a few people feel the same way.

Well after the huge success of the Franchise is no surprise that there continue to make new Pokemon Version. (But i don't want to see a remake of Ruby and Sapphire since there's no gap at the moment that allow me to transfer old Pokemon to the new systems.)

They're going to need to do something pretty radical for there to be a point. I already own 2 DS pokemon games; they are great; I don't need the same thing again.
Just have to wait and see. After Blue, I never get the original 2 though. I always wait for the third "special" edition to come out. If that's entirely for 3DS, it'll probably be worth it. Either way, I can take my time with Platinum/Silver and wait on the next gen.

The amazing online features were what made it worth upgrading to the fourth generation of Pokémon. I'm hoping they'll have something that big for this next one, otherwise this series just isn't worth the effort it takes to keep up with it.
They could fix the online features... like eh, I dunno, GET RID OF FRIEND CODES!
Also it would be cool to random battle someone online, kind of like Battle Revolution did, except this game won't disappoint as much hopefully.

like when I use tackle, I want to see my pokemon actually hit the other one. the show makes battling look so legit but all the games are like "we dont promote ACTUAL violence"
