Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: How To Defeat Bomb Guardian

It’s time for the second boss fight in our Metroid Prime 2: Echoes full walkthrough, and this time it’s taking on the Bomb Guardian.

The fight is in the final section of the Agon Wastes, and it actually starts out with you trapped in an arena with an Alpha Sandigger, a larger version of the common Sandigger you’ll find in the area. After causing some damage, a portal opens and soaks the Alpha Sandigger with dark energy, turning it into the Bomb Guardian, and this is where things begin to ramp up.

How to defeat the Bomb Guardian boss fight

The oversized space worm will wiggle about the area, occasionally following you when you get too close. The goal here is to shoot its tail to stagger it so its head will be vulnerable to massive damage. As it's moving around, it always leaves energy bombs behind it, so mind your space when following and aiming for its tail.

The Bomb Guardian shoots out rather familiar-looking energy bombs while roaming around the area and charging at you. If you keep your distance, it will start to throw bombs at you. Strafing around and keeping an eye on any bombs in your peripheral as you aim at the Bomb Guardian is the key to avoiding taking too much damage.

Always be moving, circling around the boss to get behind it and go for its tail; shooting the tail causes minor damage and, after a while, will stagger the Bomb Guardian. This will cause it to reel back into the air, giving you an opening to shoot at its head, causing massive damage.

Mind yourself, though, after it’s staggered, it’ll set out a big roar and release many bombs around the area. You’re almost guaranteed to take damage from this retaliating attack, so keep an eye on your health outside of this brief phase of the fight. Rinse and repeat this tail-to-head method, and you’ll beat the Bomb Guardian boss.

Reward for defeating the Bomb Guardian

Defeating the Bomb Guardian rewards you with the Morph Ball Bomb, granting you the ability to destroy certain objects, Bomb Jump, and activate Bomb Slots to progress through areas.
