Eternal Threads (Switch eShop)
LavaTwilight is into time-manipulation game Eternal Threads.
After years of waiting to come to the Switch, it finally shadow dropped to no fanfare. However this game was amazing. Unlike most branching stories, this one starts at the end with the constant grizzly reminder of what will happen if you fail your mission. Each change seems uneventful to begin with until you untangle the web. It was set up to receive a sequel but I think it was scrapped, which is a shame because this game definitely deserved better than the reception it received.
Fate/stay night REMASTERED (Switch eShop)
OctoAmbush apparently missed that we won't be reviewing any of these recommendations (we'd love to, but there are just too many games!), but Fate/stay night REMASTERED is worth highlighting.
Watch on YouTubeSubscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube841k
I think you should review Fate/Stay Night Remastered, it's the definitive version of a classic VN from the developers of Tsukihime and its first official English release!
Jubilee (Switch eShop)
FishyS had a couple of recommendations. Firstly, Jubilee:
Jubilee is a precision platformer with a tiny smidge of Metroidvania DNA - you can go various directions in a big map and find different areas, but there are no power-ups or new abilities or things blocking your progress. There are simply platforming challenges no matter what direction you go — spinning saws here, conveyor belts floating over a spike pit there. Some of the sections are slightly ridiculous, but there are enough checkpoints that it feels quite fair. It's the type of game where you can die 10 times in one minute and want more. And the platforming feels great.
Dadish 3D (Switch eShop)
Also from FishyS is Dadish 3D, "a cute retro-3D variant of the goofy radish precision platforming series."
50 levels with some nice variety, including some interesting 'race towards the camera' levels. Not hard but some of the levels took a few tries to beat and there are no checkpoints. Overall, a fun little romp and all the dad jokes you could want.
Vividlope (Switch eShop)
Squiddu was keen to highlight Vividlope by jaklub.
VIVIDLOPE is a puzzle-platformer game where you run around on tiles to paint them on a stage. However, many enemies will spawn that can kill you, but just as many items spawn to help you paint the map and defeat enemies. Paint enough tiles, and you win! It may be considered a puzzler, but it ends up being extremely hectic and fun hopping around and smacking things with a hammer like a maniac.
Arco (Switch eShop)
Arco looks great and is going on our wishlist thanks to a couple of recommendations:
ARCO is a choices-matter tactical strategy game based on Latin-American culture, published by Panic. It features captivating pixel art and a well-written Western-esque revenge story.
Jack Tanski
Arco is a tactical RPG with a unique setting and moving story. Battles combine turn-based movement with real-time elements. You’re typically outnumbered and outgunned, but you can see your opponents moves in advance. The key to success is using your available skills and the map environment to dodge, weave, and attack. Battles are tight and brutal! They fit within a beautiful story about indigenous peoples resisting miners and gangs in Mesoamerica, and the pixel graphics are surprisingly evocative. Post-release patches have also smoothed out performance for the Switch version, so check it out!
XiaoShao
Grand Mountain Adventure Wonderlands (Switch eShop)
Daniel was straight to the point with his appraisal of Grand Mountain Adventure Wonderlands.
Grand Mountain Adventure, the best skiing experience through snow since... ever? Simple to pick up, hard to put down.
Cosmo Dreamer (Switch eShop)
Quarth highlighted a couple of shoot 'em ups.
You've missed to review the two cute em ups Cosmo Dreamer and Like Dreamer. Really charming and fun shmups worth a look.
Seventh Lair (Switch eShop)
"Play Seventh Lair," said MR JACK W J BIRKS.
Quality visual novel about 6 hours long, it's a spin off to the house in fata morgana, which is famous for its high metacritic score. Be aware though you do need to play that before this.
About An Elf (Switch eShop)
About An Elf may or may not be a game about an elf. Kurt Asbestos assures us it's worth a look regardless.
This game is... weird. The visuals are awesome, the music is repetitive yet catchy, but the goofy dialog is the real star. The only downside is that there's not a lot of actual gameplay. They describe it as a "point-and-click-ish, rpg-ish, visual-novel-ish game", but I'd say that it's mostly just a visual novel. Still, I enjoyed my time with it. My only regret is developing a crush on Princess Dam only to find out that's she's entirely CG.
They Always Run (Switch eShop)
"They Always Run is an action platformer with a cool space cowboy look to it," says timtimtim.
The story is boilerplate sci-fi, but the reason to play is the gorgeous art and the rewarding combat — at least once you get used to the controls. I had a blast playing as a bounty hunter looking like the Man with No Name in a cyberpunk future and cutting through crowds of henchmen standing in my way, all while marvelling at each new location as I hunted my bounties.
Baron: Fur Is Gonna Fly (Switch eShop)
timtimtim is also a fan of Baron: Fur Is Gonna Fly.
Baron is the classic Intellivision's Biplanes (from the Triple Action cartridge) brought up-to-date! It has up to 8 players dogfighting on a single screen, several competitive game modes, and a couple of solo challenges. In addition, the special weapons are cartoonishly silly and add fun chaos when playing with lots of other players, and the music is a treat — WWI-era styled songs with amusing lyrics about the animal characters. It is just about everything I would want in a new version of Biplanes, without any connection to the Amico fiasco.
stitch. (Switch eShop)
And finally, KoiTenchi picks Stitch.
Stitch. showed off its charm right away in the first trailer. The idea of a puzzle game based around knitting is just clever and it's arguably the cutest puzzle game I've ever played. It never gets too difficult but I always find it a relaxing game to visit between other longer games. There is a crazy amount of puzzles along with daily puzzles and some paid DLC leading me to put over 90 hours into it and still be playing. There is a Mystery Master mode that unlocks after completing all the puzzles which adds even more replay value.
Thanks again to everyone who responded. Let us know below if you've sampled any of the games above and if you agree with the recommendations.
Got more recommendations for us? Perhaps a game dropped when we were crazy busy, or it failed to catch our eye amongst the deluge of AI-generated eShop bilge. Or maybe it just looked rubbish from the trailer - you never can tell 100%!
Send us your recommendations by following the guidelines and instructions below:
Submission guidelines
- 100-word limit - Keep it brief! A history of the genre and deep dive into every mechanic is unnecessary. Concentrate on what the game is about, what sets it apart from other games, and why you enjoyed it.
- One entry per game - Feel free to send your thoughts on multiple games, but there's no need to duplicate.
- Choose only games that we haven't reviewed on the site - To check if a Nintendo Life review exists, simply type the name of the game into the search box at the very top of the page (look for the magnifying glass icon in the top left corner) and click on the game page that appears. If there's no review, and it doesn't appear in a previous Reader Recommendations feature (which will also appear on the game page if it exists), you're good to go!
How to send a recommendation
- Head to Nintendo Life's Contact page and select the subject "Switch eShop Hidden Gems" from the drop-down menu (it's already done for you in the link above). Type your name, email, and beautifully crafted message into the appropriate box, hit send, and Bob's your uncle!

I didn't even know Snow Globe got released for Switch. I wonder if it's a freebee for those who owned the original VN because man Planetarium is as cute and seemingly whimsical as it is depressing....
@Samalik Not free but it's pretty cheap standalone.
@BenAV Yeah, just saw it for 5 bucks.
Damnit I just want to own this VN physically....
Edit: There's an english physical release YEEEEES!!!!
No love for my recommendation for Ultimate Solitaire Collection? :-/
Oh wow that's a lot of games, will check them more in detail tomorrow to see if there are some that interest me and that I haven't already added to my Deku Deals wishlist (if not straight up have them like in the case of Hogwarts Legacy for example which I got "physically" - too bad it requires a hefty download but still, better than completely digitally - discounted from my usual retailer here in Italy)!
These lists are always interesting, though unfortunately I didn't get around to submitting anything, but oh well, there's always next time.
Out of the games listed I've only played stitch., which is just great and has also become one of the most played games of the year for me. Arco and Peglin are both on the wishlist, and Lotus Reverie and The Land Beneath Us both seem interesting as well.
Stitch and Neverawake are good, good games that I would recommend. Touhou Luna Knights is decent and Dadish 3D is a not bad timepass. Peglin is in the bowels of my wishlist. Loved Peggle DS and my nephew recommended it so I must download this as well and soon! The Fate/Stay game similarly as well. I have the GMA Wonderlands game but that is on my backlog!
Love this feature. Majority of the other games I haven't heard of and I am one who takes frequent explatory deep dives in to in the eshop sea (both on actual shop & the t'internet itself). Q2 seems interesting as does Desktop Baseball 2 (which looks like it has a demo?). Good mess around games potentially? Also the Land Beneath Us looks really good. Can't believe I missed that. I think that has been reviewed generally quite well too?
I loved Curse Crackers: For Whom the Belle Toils - really fun platforming mechanic bouncing off things and great aesthetic!
Flying Tank and They Always Run look interesting...
@Dualmask ye, that flying tanks like a good pick up and play game.
Corpse Party (2021) was mentioned before, I thought... Well, okay. It's worth mentioning, buying, and playing, anyway. 😉
(Completed it some time ago. Finished BloodCovered PC remake twice.
I have 1st game on GOG and Switch.
Book of Shadows on GOG.
2U on GOG.
And Blood Drive on Switch.
I became Corpse Party fan years ago. You can see Ryōsuke on my pfp as well.)
Fate/stay night REMASTERED is awesome so far. Finished Fate route not a long time ago.
Also, that Hokkaidō game seems really interesting and worth checking out.
I enjoy looking through these lists. I knew about the Hokkaido Serial Murder Case remake earlier but always forget to get it already, shame on me. Downloading it later today.
I also wanna try that Curse Crackers: For Whom the Belle Toils game, looks nice.
Hogwarts Legacy on here is a little bit funny, not gonna lie. Most high profile “missed game” we’ve seen on these lists for sure.
@Vyacheslav333 Corpse Party is awesome! Fell in love with the series on 3DS. Played with headphones on and that Binaural Audio was absolutely amazing!
@somnambulance I thought the same thing. How did they NOT cover that? I’ve got it but haven’t tried it out yet. Supposedly runs really good, and looks good too boot. Just gotta deal with loading times between area transitions, which is nothing for those of use who played Oblivion, Monster Hunter, Fallout, etc…. Lol
Surprised there’s no mention of Atom RPG / Trudograd on the list still…. Good game/series with over 80/70% on Steam. Good homage to the original Fallout games.
Whatever happened to Laika: Aged Through Blood that got delayed at the last minute in January?
Arco has looked interesting and has been on my wishlist. Probably won’t get to it until there’s a sale.
I purchased Gun Rounds on my phone, and I just can’t get into it. The gameplay is a little too simplistic, and the passive upgrades don’t change up the individual battles that much. Maybe it’s better on the Switch because your fingers won’t obscure the screen, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
@Dm9982 «How did they NOT cover that?»
I had the same question about Fate/stay night REMASTERED. 😁
Some real solid-looking titles! Thanks for the recommendations, gang. I'll get #blud, Desktop Baseball 2, stitch., and Jubilee added to the old wishlist.
@Jack_Goetz it released silently on Switch in March of this year. NintendoLife's own forums have posts from someone that played it on Switch. Oddly though it seems to have been since removed from the E-shop just as quietly as it was originally released
Had no idea Gylt was released on the Switch. I'll be sure to check it out one day.
Let me elaborate on Q Remastered since I didn't expect to be quoted on the article.
You can play it with buttons (for a more precise experience), with the Touch Screen in Handheld and Tabletop Modes, with Gyro Controls using a Joy-Con or even with a USB mouse in TV Mode.
The objective of the game is to solve a series of Qs, ranging from the most basic (in principle) like "Make the ball touch the left wall", "Take the ball out of the container", "Make the ball touch the red area" to more complex like "Make the red sumo wrestler touch the ground while not moving the white one" or "Defeat the Monster but don't kill the Hero".
All of the Qs are solved with drawings, move the cursor and draw whatever you want, it's up to you how to solve it as there are no real correct answers.
It definitely has that "Just one more try" when you have the solution, but then you just fail and laugh at your misery. In other words, the execution is the real challenge of this game.
Each stage has 20 Qs, but only 10 available at the start of each. Once you solved 7, the rest appears, and with 14 Qs solved you unlock the next stage of a category. I believe new stages are added periodically via updates. As of October 16th, 2024 there are 1400 Qs in total.
For reference, I've solved about 200 Qs since December 30th, 2023, when I got it.
There are some Qs in stages called Q2 étude (nothing to do with the follow-up called Q2 Humanity, also on Switch) that work a little different to the rest of the game. Here you have 2 cursors, one for each Stick, and you can grab your drawings and other objects using L/R as if pinching the object or ZL/ZR as if grabbing it with your hands, you have to toggle the kinds of grabs with touch controls and USB mouse.
For a mobile game, the music is right up there with Tetris Effect: Connected, it really puts you in a good mood. If you're interested in listening to the soundtrack, you can find it on YouTube.
It's not very expensive but it still ocassionally goes on sale, so if you want a puzzle game that doesn't make you feel bad even if you fail, this may be for you.
@Yodalovesu Wow, I had no idea! Amazing considering all the hype there was surrounding it before its original release date.
Awesome List! Two games directly to wishlist!
Super Woden GP II
Jubilee
@Jack_Goetz @Yodalovesu I’m willing to bet it has something to do with Thunderful’s restructuring they’ve been doing this year. Likely the publishing license on the eshop got lost in translation somewhere. That’s usually the typical reason a game gets suddenly yanked from the eshop and without any notification or news on it.
Only other reasons I’ve seen are change in ratings, or some major issue in the coding (usually one that leads to kernel access or something to that effect).
I have Laika in my Switch right now. Played two days ago. Another user was correct; this game released on the NA eshop in March of this year. Didn’t realize it had been pulled. NL would love this game if they could play it. It’s freakin’ fantastic and quite a challenge. Really glad I bought it when I did.
P.s. I’m the guy who recommended it on this list. When I read NL saying that it hadn’t been released yet, I was screaming in my head, “yes it was!” Didn’t know it was pulled, though.
They Always Run is so good that I bought the Collectors Edition.
Great game
Love that Transiruby got a shout! That game rips
Arco is a good game.
@BaronMunchausen I know better, you’ve just outted yourself as a time traveller! I know you went into the future to grab Laika! 😂
But seriously, I can vouch and remember when it released. Almost grabbed it. Wishing I would have now!
@Dm9982 had no idea about the audio. I own it on 3ds and havent played it yet. perfect for october thanks.
I've seen Curse Crackers around, but I don't think I've ever watched gameplay of it. It looks incredible! It looks like if Inti Creates did a Wario Land game. I'm not sure if I'll get it as it looks incredibly hectic and I know my limits, but I'd say that one is the highlight of this roundup for me.
Stitch. is my favourite on the list, great game to chill out with
Curse Crackers? That must be what happens when yt bois like me cross paths with a voodoo witch doctor.
@BASEDSAKRI np! Yeah seriously play the whole thing with headphones, truly an awesome experience!
@Dm9982 You’re too funny.
Yeah, I thought time travel would be easier than freezing myself like Cartman did when he was waiting for Chinatown Wars for the DS (if I recall correctly).
@BaronMunchausen 😂😂😂
By the way, Nintendo Life, whoever came up with this concept (games you missed) is brilliant. It’s one of my favorite things you guys do. Thank you.
My bad for not adding commentary to my suggestion, didn't realize until now I should had added that lol
For Hokkaido for those who aren't aware it's an old school point and click adventure game similar to Ace Attorney and Famicom Detective Club. The game is a big influence on the mystery novel adventure genre. It's technically 2 games, the first part is the original version that got remade then it adds another story that takes place 18 years later with the same characters from the first game.
Thank you for taking my suggestion and spotlighting Luna Nights! No wonder this feature took some time with how many games got chosen!
Dadish 3D is pretty good. Not as tough as the 2D ones but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The bosses maybe needed a bit more but I enjoyed it and look forward to Dadish 3D 2!
Stitch is nice and zen but doesn’t feel much of a puzzle to me. Once you get your head into the general patterns there’s only so many ways things fit and you kinda just blast through them. Some of the really big ones can feel a slog at times but overall I like it for a relaxed session in the evenings, and the daily and weekly puzzles are a nice extra.
I’ve also been playing Loddlenaut. Very cute little game about cleaning up the ocean and raising little creatures called Loddles. It’s really satisfying and chill zapping away the dirt and watching the Loddles grow and slowly morph into different sea creatures.
Removed - unconstructive feedback
@dartmonkey "Games We Missed" is one of my favorite features on Nintendo Life! Thanks for putting this together. I found a few new games I need to check out!
Some great looking games for my wishlist. I really like these features; I've found a couple games I absolutely love through them.
And thank you NL for putting up 2 of my picks and sorry to the editors for accidently submitting one which NL had already reviewed because I'm blind 😆
I'm really glad someone submitted Transiruby; great game. @cmbaum
I’m almost surprised to see I was the only one who recommended .Stitch but I’m glad to see it’s winning the poll (well, tied for winning with Hogwarts Legacy which I’m honestly shocked to find out wasn’t reviewed).
Stitch. really is such a cute and great game that doesn’t get enough attention. I’m STILL working my way through Mystery Master mode!
Also glad to see Dadish 3D get a shout out. I didn’t give it a shoutout myself since it’s unfortunately still sitting in my backlog but I loved Dadish 1 through 3 and previously gave those a shoutout in a different one of these articles!
@Ogbert I could only fit so much in what I submitted for .Stitch but I agree with you it’s very easy but I will admit it does at least get SLIGHTLY harder on Mystery Master mode. You unlock that mode once you complete all the possible puzzles (you DON’T have to have all “locked” puzzles beaten though like weekly puzzles, rank puzzles, daily completion puzzles though).
Mystery Master mode basically replaces a random one of the numbers in each stitch in a level with a question mark. It basically then requires you to leave that one for last since you won’t otherwise know how many pieces it requires (unless you want to do the math for it). It’s STILL not very tough but it’s something.
Grand Mountain Adventure is incredible. I've only played it on Switch, and can say they did a masterful job programming this relaxing (and challenging, if you want it) skiing game. Gylt is also good, but I've only played it via Steam.
I've been wanting to try Vividlope and this article got me to get it. It is an instant classic, love it! Also, it started off at low res and 60fps, but a quick dip into options got it up to 800p and 90fps, sweet!
I've also been enjoying Flying Tank at 90fps for a few months. It is a super unique stg with great music and awesome graphics.
I can also vouch for Cash Cow DX, satryn deluxe, and Peglin.
Great article, thanks everyone!
I also have over 90 hours in Stitch. My favourite game this year aside from Balatro.
Why do you write (Switch eShop) after the game titles?
I think we know they can all be purchased from there. A lot of these games on this list have physical releases as well, which would have made more sense to add instead.
dude, peglin is SO GOOD! Can't think of a bad thing to say about it, its just a pure, fun good time.
I’m gonna have to check out Jubilee. It’s only 4$ I think on the eshop at the moment.
For all the prior jokes about "a hidden indie gem Hogwarts Legacy", I honestly didn't expect to find it in (and eligible for) a complication like this for real.😅
Grand Mountain Adventure looks like a snow version of Lonely Mountains: Downhill. I've learned not to trust Microids but I might have to give it a shot.
And +1 to About An Elf, that game is pure nonsense but the main character is very appealing in an uncanny valley kind of way.
@nhSnork If you read the criterias:
HL fit before this article because they had not reviewed it. All it needed was a submission and for NL to pick that submission, which they did ^_^
@Tobiaku yes, I know the criteria. As with The Missing last time (a SWERY game, after all), it just took me by surprise that NL actually never got around to HL themselves despite it being one of the most notable Gen 9 multiplats on Switch.
About an Elf definitely looks like a good time. If the price is right I think it’ll be quite amusing.
