Terminator 2D: NO FATE (Switch)

Retro revivals have gone way past being retro rereleases and games inspired by the classics — Terminator 2D: NO FATE is a complete reimagining of the Terminator 2 movie, but in the style of a 2D action game, like its straight out of the SNES / Genesis era.

It looks absolutely phenomenal in our eyes, and it gives us something to look forward to later in the year, as it launches 5th September 2025.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter (Switch)

For those who really want to start the Trails series but want to do it by the book (as in, in release order), then Trails in the Sky1st Chapter is the game for you.

Confirmed to be coming to Switch on 19th September 2025, this is a fully 3D remake of the very first Kiseki game. The original is a lovely time, and the remake looks absolutely beautiful.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (Switch)

We're always excited about the prospect of a new Sonic racing game — even if they haven't all been winners — but Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds looks fantastic.

CrossWorlds will feature characters and courses from across Sega's history, and also see the return of the Extreme Gear which first appeared in Sonic Riders. Packed full of unique vehicles, high-velocity racing, and Hatsune Miku and Minecraft's Steve, we'll be racing to play this one on 25th September 2025.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A (Switch)

A new Pokémon Legends game? Sign us up. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to take place in Lumiose City, the central city of Kalos and Pokémon X & Y. We've got real-time battles, Wild Zones, new and familiar faces, and a trio of adorable starters.

Coming out on 16th October 2026 with both a Switch and Switch 2 edition, we hope this can live up to the excellence of Legends: Arceus.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake (Switch)

What, you thought we were just getting the first game in the Erdrick Trilogy? Nope. All three original NES games will be in full HD-2D glory, as Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake bundles together the first two games in the series. And you'll be able to play the original duo on 30th October 2025 — and on Switch 2, too.

These two take place in the distant future, after Dragon Quest III, and Square Enix has teased some bonuses if you complete all three. Expect the same level of quality as the III HD-2D Remake when the first two games arrive.

Absolum (Switch eShop)

When we went hands-on with Absolum earlier this year, we compared it to Dead Cells, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. This is a beautiful hand-drawn beat 'em up from the team behind the combat design of the sublime Streets of Rage 4, and Dotemu is pulling out all the stops here.

We haven't got a solid release date yet, but we know this one's coming to Switch sometime in 2025. Plus, we can team up with friends in co-op. Perfect. Let's hope it runs well!

Bye Sweet Carole (Switch eShop)

With the horror genre full to bursting with unique games and IPs, Bye Sweet Carole still managed to make its own stamp on the genre. Inspired by classic animation, most likely Disney, this horror adventure game uses the 1900s and the Women's Suffrage movement as a backdrop for the action.

It looks and sounds beautiful and unsettling, and we'll get to experience it all when it launches in 2025.

Darwin's Paradox! (Switch eShop)

Imagine making your debut game and teaming up with Konami. ZeDrimeTim's Darwin's Paradox is the result of this collaboration, a sort of octopus-meets-Inside action platformer that's coming to Switch in 2025.

The humorous, colourful adventure sees an octopus attempt to save the world from aliens. Simple, right? Darwin can blend into his environments, ink enemies, and swim fast to solve puzzles and escape from the evil plaguing the world. We're certainly intrigued!

inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories (Switch eShop)

Have you ever dreamt of running a Japanese convenience store? Well inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories will let you live out your loveliest fantasies.

Taking place in a small Japanese town with a '90s feel, you'll get to form relationships with the customers while stocking up your little store. The game is based around the concept of ichi-go, ichi-e (one time, one meeting), meaning conversation and moments are key. The game is coming to Switch sometime in 2025.

Little Nightmares III (Switch)

Little Nightmares III sees Until Dawn studio Supermassive Games at the helm, and this time, it's a co-op affair. You can play alone with an AI companion or join up with someone online to control new protagonists Low and Alone. Both characters play very differently too, meaning everyone will probably have a favourite.

If you want to get spooked, you'll need to wait until 2025 for the return of Little Nightmares.

MIO: Memories in Orbit (Switch eShop)

MIO: Memories in Orbit dazzled us with its beautiful visuals when it was revealed during the June 2024 Nintendo Direct. We don't know much about it yet, but we do know that you'll play as MIO and you'll get to explore a nature-meets-technology world which you need to prevent from being shut down.

Developed by Douze Dixièmes — which previously made puzzler Shady Part of Me — will be coming out some time in 2025.

Morsels (Switch eShop)

Canadian developer Furcula, formed by the lead artist on Nidhogg II, is bringing its debut title to Switch thanks to Annapurna.

Morsels is a unique-looking roguelite where you swap between multiple characters to escape from the sewers and fight killer cats. it's pretty grotesque, but the scanlines and gameplay have us very intrigued. Morsels launches on Switch in sometime in 2025.
