Orbitals (Switch 2)

Launch date
2026
Platform
Switch 2
Physical?
TBC

Amid a swathe of co-op games coming to Switch 2 in 2026, Orbitals stands out the most to us. It looks and feels like a classic anime from the '80s, and you get to explore and pilot your way through space with two charming characters. What's not to love?

You'll be searching space to try and save your crumbling space station from ruin. Outside of that and teaming up with a partner, we don't know what to expect, except what looks to be a delightful time.

Oh, here's another co-op adventure! And another stunning-looking one at that. Stop motion animation will forever be a favourite of ours, and Out Of Words is using the medium to incredible effect.

Kurt and Karla can't speak, and have been transported to Vokabulantis, a colourful world full of weird and wonderful things. This is all about the first time the pair held hands — awww! With the genre exploding at the moment, we hope this has something magical instore for us.

Professor Layton and The New World of Steam (Switch 2)

Launch date
2026
Platform
Switch 1 & Switch 2
Physical?
TBC, but Level-5 seems to have abandoned physical releases in the West

Level-5's return has been steady so far, but the developer is committing to the Switch 2 alongside the Switch. Professor Layton's first new adventure in over a decade (we're not counting Katrielle here, sorry!) is going multiplatform and sees some big changes for Layton and Luke.

The New World of Steam is going 3D with a whole new setting and tons of new puzzles, as you'd expect.

Rhythm Heaven Groove (Switch)

Launch date
2026
Platform
Switch 1
Physical?
TBC, but we hope

A new Rhythm Heaven game, finally! rejoiced millions upon seeing Rhythm Heaven Groove revealed during the March 2025 Direct. 2026!?!?!?! they collectively gasped as their joy collided with the realities of game development and scheduling.

But hey, 2026 is basically here now, and the fact it's coming is reason enough for great joy and gratitude.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (Switch 2)

Launch date
2026
Platform
Switch 2
Physical?
No idea, but given Square Enix's track record... we're not hopeful

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a bit of a mouthful, right? Fortunately, the HD-2D action RPG looks pretty darn tasty, with beautiful visuals and a robust combat system that we're looking forward to diving into.

With multiple upgradeable weapons and an open world to explore, this gives us the early '90s action RPG vibe we've been craving. If you can't wait until next year, make sure you download that demo on the Switch 2 eShop.

Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors (Switch eShop)

Launch date
2026
Platform
Switch 1
Physical?
Unlikely

Vampire Survivors is branching out, and it's going dungeon crawling. Yes, you're reading that right. Vampire Crawlers looks like the most chaotic turn-based, deck-building game we've ever seen. It's got a huge dollop of the usual number and pixel madness on top of an old-school first-person perspective,.

You can play as fast or slow as you want, going full methodical or by throwing everything and the kitchen sink at the wall. Can you wait until 2026 to get your hands on this? We certainly can't wait to take a bite.

Witchbrook (Switch 2)

Launch date
2026
Platform
Switch 1 & Switch 2
Physical?
TBC

Announced way back in 2020, Witchbrook finally made a reappearance during March's Nintendo Direct. Then, we found out the social RPG is also coming to the successor!

Beautiful pixel art and myriad systems make up what looks to be an enthralling and fun experience and you attend a magical school. You can play online with friends or go with the flow yourself. We're glad to see Chucklefish back on the dash and can't wait to check this out in 2026

Mega Man: Dual Override (Switch 2)

Launch date
2027
Platform
Switch 1 & Switch 2
Physical?
Maaaaybe??

Years and years of Capcom saying "Yes, we do love Mega Man!" And, well, finally they're proving it! For the 40th anniversary, Capcom is giving us a brand new Mega Man in 2027 on both Switch 1 (yes, really) and Switch 2.

We actually know very little about Dual Override except that it's classic Mega Man through and through. And, interestingly, it's the first classic mainline game in the series since Mega Man & Bass to not have a number in the title. Hmmm.

Mina the Hollower (Switch 2)

Launch date
TBA
Platform
Switch 1 & Switch 2
Physical?
Unlikely until after release

We've been waiting for this one for a wee while now, but Yacht Club Games' Mina the Hollow has impressed us at every turn including with its short-time demo in the summer of 2025.

Taking a slice of GBC top-down Zelda and putting a mouse-y, spooky twist on it, we were originally meant to get our hands on this at Halloween, but a last-minute delay to an unspecified date has us waiting with bated breath. Hopefully early 2026 is on the cards, but for now, we just don't know.

Splatoon Raiders (Switch 2)

Launch date
TBA
Platform
Switch 2
Physical?
TBC

When Nintendo announced Splatoon Raiders via a Nintendo Today! announcement (no, really, everyone was scrambling), we had no idea what to think. And we're still in the very early days, so we don't know much. But, from our guess, this looks to be a single-player-focused spin-off of the hugely popular multiplayer shooter.

We'll find out more at some point, including a release date, but colour us intrigued.

As you can see, there's plenty to come in Nintendo land. Tell us if you think there's something else we should have on our radar in the comments!

Frequently Asked Questions

We might be done with the games for now, but we're sure you have questions about the Switches libraries. In fact, you do! Here are some common ones that we have answers for.

Isn't the Switch 2 just a more powerful Switch?

It is, but it's also got a lot more going for it.

For one, the Joy-Con 2 are much improved over the originals, and with the implementation of Mouse Mode, it adds a whole new way to play games.

It's also got features such as GameChat (and camera functionality), a microphone, and more accessibility settings than the Switch ever had. Plus, it'll have a slate of Switch 2 exclusive games. You can't play Mario Kart World on your Switch 1, after all.

Is Switch 2 backwards compatible?

it certainly is! So you can still play your Switch 1 games on Switch 2.

Well, for the most part. Nintendo has shared a list of games that have backwards compatibility issues on Switch 2, and we've compiled all of them into a handy Backwards Compatible guide.

Are games still coming out for Switch 1?

Yep, they are, and plenty of them too, as you can see above.

That doesn't mean you have to cling onto the Switch 1 — since the Switch 2 is backwards compatible and all — but there's lots to look forward to.

Is Super Mario Odyssey 2 launching on Switch 2?

Ummm... we hate to break it to you, but there's no Super Mario Odyssey 2. At least not yet.

Nintendo hasn't yet announced a brand new 3D Mario game for the Switch 2, which we're a little bit shocked by. It put he bananas in the basket with Donkey Kong Bananza. But that doesn't mean Nintendo's own mascot won't get his own game anytime soon.

Not even the Super Mario Galaxy Movie seems to be bringing a new game — instead, we just got Switch 1 ports of Galaxy and Galaxy 2.

What is the newest Mario Party game?

We're so glad you asked! Super Mario Party Jamboree is the third Mario Party game on Switch. This is a full-fledged new game with new boards, minigames, and online modes.

However, there's a Switch 2 exclusive update in Jamboree TV, which is out now. So if you've upgraded to the new console, there's still life in Jamboree yet.

Is Mario Kart World coming to Switch 1?

Nope, Mario Kart Will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

However, it was originally planned to be a Switch 1 game, but the team ran into many roadblocks and Nintendo said it was "it was difficult for us to incorporate everything we wanted" on the older console.

As a result, the Booster Course Pass was used to till in the gap!

Don't forget, we'll be keeping this list up to date over the course of the Switch 2's life — and the Switch 1 is still hanging in there into 2027 — so keep this page bookmarked! Is there a game you're really excited for? Think we've forgotten something big? Let us know in the comments.
