I recommend to buy this game, it's a blast! One of the best 3D platformers, a little easy imo, but I found trying to get good coin scores on each level more than challenging.

Too much work. Plus, shipping's not much cheaper than renting.
Oh yeah, it is grueling! Thats cool, just your opinion, but money spent on a rental where you do not like the game is money gone for nothing and money spent on a game you want to buy is a downpayment on nothing....
For example I bought Wii FIt for $90 and sold it for $180 last Christmans - lol, and then bought it back!
For example I bought Crossbow for $20 and sold the gun shell for $17 on ebay!
For example I bought Red Steel for $28, relisited it the moment I saw what horrible dreck it was, resold it for apporximate cost, and was our only $2 for shipping - so that is a 7 day rental - too long for that game - for $2! Cannot beat that!
Hardcore, casual = marketing. The real divide is between arcade and narrative games.
Wii Fit is not really a good example. It was super rare. That doesn't apply to most games. I sold mine to a friend for retail price, so I lost nothing on that but tax. Could have gotten more on Ebay for some grotesque amount, but I don't think that's right. I've thought about buying it back, too, haha, but I managed to resist.
As for shipping being too much work, the post office is not very close to my place. Rentals are ridiculously expensive compared to how much they used to be, but I don't rent often, and it's better than waiting for a game not only to be available used, but also to go down in price. When a new game is out, I rent it if I'm interested, which usually isn't the case, and it's not bad. I'm down $8 for a week's fun. Not bad.
Thanks for the advice. It's just not convenient for me.

True, but most of the time I know if I want to buy a game before it comes out. For a single-player game, I rent it with the intention to complete it and return it, not to try it out. For instance, I loved the demo of Ratchet and Clank (PS3), so I didn't need to buy it to try it, but I still rented it because I knew it wouldn't last that long. I want to rent Excite Bots, too, because I am certain I'll like it but have enough multiplayer games already that I just want to have something different for a week.
I did end up buying MGS4 after renting it, but despite finishing it in one week (what a grueling week!), I hadn't realized it had a multiplayer mode that was actually fun. So it doesn't always work out like I plan... Oh well!
I wasnt a big fan of SMG. I played it trough once, 120'd and that was it. Too may things annoyed me, Marios voice for one, same as sunshine. I preferred the Mario64 voice, or no speech from him at all. That new princess as well didnt like her, and spring mario just plain sucked. There were other things as well but whatever, it was a good game, it was fine, but that was it :/
I bought Galaxy on release day, I still havn't finished it. I like to dip in and dip out. Galaxy is perfect for this. You can not play it for months, then jump straight back in.
Well, the way you guys all describe it, it sounds really fun, so I think I'll probably get it. It's definitely going to be one of the next 3 games I get!
I thought the red star flying Mario thing was a little tacked on. How many times do you even use that?
I didn't mind the spring, seemed vaguely reminiscent of the goomba shoe.
The red star was definitely tacked on, I agree.
The thing is, though, that despite its flaws (because it IS a flawed game) it's still one of the best I've ever played. It's one of those games that's full of irritating quirks, but the overall experience is so wonderful that it's worth every moment. (See also: Majora's Mask.)

Yeah, I love the Bee suit, I could play an entire game like the Honeyclimb Galaxy.
I like the Bee suit, but I didn't care for the bee level, or at least not the first one. I don't remember any of the other galaxies with Bee suit. One thing I did not like about the suits in general is how they were used only when needed. It felt like they were all a bit tacked on just to make a few individual levels a bit different -- not that that is bad in itself. But with more effort the powerups could have been done more like in the classic Mario games spread throughout most or all levels so that you could play each level in different ways. There never used to be, for instance, "raccoon levels." The leaf was a natural part of the game.
The approach Galaxy takes is not a bad one, but I don't think it's as fun.
