Even well after the honeymoon phase, I can easilly say that Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite game ever. Not only did it bring Mario into the modern gaming age graphically, but the gameplay mechanics are right out of my childhood, imagining what a "Super Mario Bros. 8" would be like in the year 2007. A part of it may just be nostalgia, in that sense, but the enjoyment that I got playing through this game was something I've not felt for a platformer sinse Yoshi's Island nearly 14 years prior. Super Mario Galaxy is really a perfect balance of fun new ideas and a reminder of why I fell in love with Nintendo in the first place. No Wii owner should be without this in there collection.
That was one of the most epic posts ever! That's exactly my thoughts!
One of, if not the, best game of this generation. The best game in the past 5 years. And by the way, this game isn't underated. On Metacritic it is the 3rd highest rated game ever, only under The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Grand Theft Auto 4 for the PS3 (which is overated).
Unenjoyably linear, awesome boss battles, beautiful graphics ,and the worst controls of any Mario game I've ever played add up to a frustrating, but quality game to me.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

One of the best games I've ever played. If not THE best. It's everything I could want from a Super Mario title. As far as I'm concerned, any other game can only ever be "as good" as Super Mario Galaxy - it can never be any better.
I think Super Mario Galaxy is disappointing. The graphics are great and the gameplay is good (although I still prefer the 3D platforming in Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and the day levels of Sonic Unleashed), but I can't stand the camera that keeps switching to different angles depending on where you move on the planets, and there's not enough manual camera control to deal with the problem. Why couldn't they just keep the camera mostly fixed to the way Mario is facing (unless in-game objects force the camera to move)? Does anyone else have any problems with the camera or suggestions to make the camera more bearable?
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I made a second save file a couple days ago, and now I remember how awesome it is, this and NSMBW are the best Wii games. As a matter of fact, Imma go play it now.
Oh, and Luigi's Purple Coins made me cry, and I fell asleep when I beat it on my far save (I'm only on the fountain on the new save file).
Mario Galaxy was a solid game, but definitely not the best. Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and Super Paper Mario (at least) are much better than it.
