One of the most overlooked games has to be Tenchu: Shadow Assassins. (you can buy a second hand copy for peanuts nowdays).
The original Tenchu: Stealth Assassins on PSX was loads better. On the PlayStation combat actually offered a lot of fun and variety, despite being a stealth game. Rikimaru was even motion captured by Sho Kosugi. All of the sequels unfortunately have been lacking, so I was excited to hear Shadow Assassins was going to try to revitalize the series. The stealth aspects were good and the graphics impressive, but the combat ended up being a horrendous motion controlled mini game. The stealth portions are fine though as long as you avoid fighting at all costs. I may still end up buying this for $10 eventually since I haven't found any better stealth offerings on the Wii.
I do agree on the fact that the original on PSX was a better game overal and the combat system was very exciting; I didn't like the fact that they reduced it to a sort of constant QTE. But still i find Wii's Tenchu a very good game on its own.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
I just read though 118 long( but never really boring) comments on good overlooked games and not a singal person mentioned Dokapon Kingdom. wayyyy better than mario party, although you absoloutley need other people to have fun with it. If you can get people to play it with you tho, its probabaly the best party experince on the wii. http://wii.ign.com/articles/898/898979p1.html has all the info on it if your intrested.
Hmm, I'm gonna vote for Wario Land. I remember when this game series first rocked the Game Boy and it became a big hit. Too bad the Wario Land love seems to be gone now.
@ Waveboy I've actually had RE: Zero since it first game out on Gamecube. I agree it's a very awesome yet highly underrated game! One thing I love about it is the beginning. The short but sweet train ride filled with Zombies was alot of fun. One thing about the game bothered me though. What was up with that reincarnated Dr. Marcus guy wearing a dress? Creepy Leech obsessed Gender confused Drag Queen much? LOL. Still a great game though. I like how you can drop unwanted items at any point in the game. Rather than back tracking all over hell looking for an item box.

Deadly Creatures is #1 on my list, followed by Battalion Wars 2. Deadly Creatures may have had its issues, but it was a blast when you weren't wrestling with the camera I'm sad that I'm apparently the only person who bought it, and they're never gonna make another one

What a great game. Got this baby 2 years after it was originally released. Can't believe I waited this long for it. Maybe it is because the game was not originally released in my country. I am very surprised about that since Punch Out is a very familiar franchise to most Nintendo fans.
Anyways, gameplay and graphics on this game are great. Motion controls are pretty decent too.
I agree that Punchout is an awesome game. Still playing my way through it. Haven't tried it with the Balance Board yet.
Some of my favorite games that were overlooked or criticized too much are:
Indiana Jones: Staff of Kings: This is a game that got panned by many critics, and I completely disagree. It's a fantastic 3D platformer which has intense variety of gameplay. The motion controls work great. There is one or two broken scenes here, where they used the motion too much, but for 90% of the time, they worked really well. The graphics are great, outstanding story, and there are tons of bonuses, co-op, and of course "The Fate of Atlantis". It's really an awesome package put together.
GodFather Black Edition: Another game that made perfect motion controls, probably the best. Madworld.. a masterpiece. Controversial perhaps. Liked the Conduit too.. the music and the voice actors. Was sorry to hear how badly Conduit 2 did (won't play it I think).
Avatar (James Cameron): this is just a movie game, so it's supposed to be bad, but it has some really nice features. The fact they thought to add the Balance Board (they also added WM+ but that was kinda lame) and that it actually worked so well should have given them some brownie points right then and there. It has a terrific stealth mode, and a fun upgrade system for the weapons. It is also not really a movie game, since it has its own storyline within the Pandora universe (unlike the other versions of the game, which are vaster I hear but are not co-op and are different). This game is not nearly as bad as people may think. It's too short, but that says something - it's disappointing to finish this because you're having fun.
SW Force Unleashed - This is why the Wii is better than the "Move" - because the best motion controls here (similar to MadWorld in a way) are within the nunchuk. The choking mechanism and the gameplay makes this a great adventure. Resident Evil 4 will always be the best motion controlled game on the Wii (mostly pointer) IMO, but this is not far behind. It got so much right. Disappointed to hear that they ruined SWFU2 with ruining these fantastic motion controls.
Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles and HOTD: Overkill two great on-rail shooters that I enjoyed, and not given much credit. DC especially has some of the best graphics I've seen in videogames (all consoles) and works well. Never played RE2, and I like Leon from RE4, so it was a blast.
S&P2: people don't give Nintendo much credit for this, for some reason (as a publisher..) This is simply a perfect game.
I may of loved RE4's new Aiming/gun play which made the combat far deeper but I absolutely hated everything else about it...
There is nothing not to like about RE4.
Agree here. RE4 Wii brought me back to playing videogames. It's why I think the Wii experience like this is the pinnacle of gaming! Just playing through this... and it sold well... they could have 100 of these (i.e., third person shooters made with care) down the road and made the library of the Wii better. All very strange.

Agree there, but the gameplay is broken... isn't it. I can't play it. And I really tried. It's unbelievable.

I need to come back to this. It did seem like a platformer that's really suited to me - fun, but not frustratingly hard. It was cool to give my wife the controller for her to shake the gold too - co-oping
I love this game to pieces. It has an absolutley gorgeouseSoundtrack, the battle sequences are completely original, and all the characters in the story are uniquely charming. "Basically, you crash land on the planet Landroll, and you have to adapt to their society while battling monsters. You get jobs, make friends, explore areas, travel from dome to dome, partake in lots of subplots and 'minigames', fight rogues with your abilities (which improve as you go)...Basically, I'd call this game a Clever RPG Based Experiment in Sociological Study." - as stated by AlgusUnderdunk, on youtube... he nicely sums up the gameplay experience..
It's a shame that only grenworthshero mentioned this game besides me, it definitley needs more love. I picked this game up at Gamestop for a measly 10$, Brand New. It's by far the best video game purchase i've made.
Wario Land: Shake It and Muramasa the Demon Blade were both pretty underrated (didn't sell that well) and both of those games should be in the library of anyone who likes platformers and side-scrollers.

completely agreed
I probably originally overhyped and pretended to like Muramasa a bit more than I should (this is not the hack n slash equivalent of a Super Metroid), but it is still just so incredibly fun and did everything right.
The Simpsons: The Game. The gameplay isn't very good. But the superb cynical comments on gaming paired with typical Simpsons jokes make this a game i wouldn't want to miss for a budget price.
Agree there, but the gameplay is broken... isn't it. I can't play it. And I really tried. It's unbelievable.
It's not directly the gameplay's fault. It's because the gameplay in a 3D platformer is strongly tied to the camera, and that game has the worst 3D camera I've ever seen! It does absolutely nothing automatically! It always sticks to the exact same angle until you move it manually, then you go on for a little bit, then you have to move it again, etc. I can't believe they got away with such laziness these days in a 3D platformer. I'm glad I only rented it.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I've seen good ones like Klonoa, Zack and Wiki, Another Code R(Trace Memory) which we in the US got f'd out of by those fools, The Munchables, (definitely the) Willam's ver of Pinball Hall of Fame, Dragon's Lair, and also (Anno) Dawn of Discovery I can totally agree with. I'm not so sure Kirby is an overlooked one.
But I'm shocked I'm not seeing any shout outs for one amazing ride of an adventure which is actually a stealth 2 for 1 deal — Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (which under options has the PC talkie CD game of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis(still considered by many as the best Indy game made ever.)
Staff of Kings was one of the few not using WMPlus that actually got down motion mechanics so well it felt right and wasn't a fight against it to do the game. The story is fantastic, the acting for the game is good. Visuals and audio for the Wii are stunning, and the gameplay is just cool between fight funs, guns, 'tomb raidering' around locations, and oh the whip...the whip is fantastic. The flick of the wrist works and works well, and there's so many things you can flick to latch onto just like in the movies to take people out (dropping wood, rocks, construction platforms, etc on them) or to whip across a gap. It's a wild ride, total Indy puzzles with a little thought and it goes a long way all along with just an all around fantastic package.
And if you need a break, or like buying 2 games for 1 'FoA' is there and that's an old SCUMM engine point and click adventure which if anything Wii is built for. Amazing story on that one with Atlantis, nazis, super beings, orichalcum, and hitting many corners of the globe which even branches off into a fists, wits, or a mix type branching off story(each way ends the same more or less but takes you to different areas to spice it up a bit.)
Sadly it's like $20 now, I got it when it was full price and due to all it has going on I don't regret it one damn bit and unless you hate Indiana Jones or tomb raider type games, get it.
My Personal Video Game / Accessory List

Has anyone mentioned Little King's Story yet? It was quite the fantastic game, but unfortunately sold badly, from what I hear. I blame the case art, which is an excellent case to sum up the game, but too many people would probably think it's childish. Funny, because the game is not.
Sorry, I hadn't checked if anyone mentioned it, but if they haven't, well...I have now!
Now that I'm back into Little King's Story, I say it's definately worth a look. It's a beautiful and adventurous game, with lots of variety and funny ideas. It's so cheap everywhere, you should add it to your collection of good Wii games.
I'd also add Dawn of Discovery (NA) / Anno: Create a new World (EU) to the list of great but overlooked games. So addiciting and easy to build your towns, with very colorful graphics and polished gameplay in a vivid Caribbean atmosphere.
EU exclusives Another Code R and Disaster: Day of Crisis are cinematic and exciting adventures that I highly recommend. The stories, graphics and music of both games is extremely good. They're so cheap nowadays (each 12,99 sealed) that you definately have to pick them up. Don't overlook them.
EXCITE TRUCK, nuff said.
I think railshooters are often overlooked by many people, but I'd recommend - in this order - 1. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, and 2. Dead Space Extration. I found them for 19,99 and 14,99 new and they're worth it absolutely, especially in 2 player co-op story mode. Both games have great graphics and are very tense and actionpacked. If you cant get enough of these games, I'd put Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and The House of the Dead: Overkill on your list too.
Sin And Punishment. Got it for 19.99 which is money spent well. This is a damn perfect bullethell rollercoaster. Don't overlook it just because it's an action game. It's worth trying it - 2 player co-op is a blast. Very replayable too.
Everything in SKTTR's post (especially Little King's Story), but I think it's worth adding ExciteBots as well.
One game that comes to mind is Red Steel 2. It's not as obscure as other games in this thread, but I still feel it's terribly underrated. It looked cool and played fantastic, seriously one of the most satisfying experiences I've played on the Wii. Remember when Wii came out and everyone thought, "Wow, I can't wait to do Wii Sword Fighting"? This was the game they were waiting for. I understand that they would be timid after the huge letdown of the first game, but they've completely revamped it for the better and have really redeemed themselves. Also I've seen it for 20 bucks bundled with MotionPlus, so go get it!
Dewey's Adventure. Dewey's. Freakin'. Adventure. It's by the same team who did Elebits but not nearly as popular. You may have even overlooked it for being to cute, but at the time of its release, it was actually one of the best looking Wii games, rivaling the visuals in Super Mario Galaxy. The controls take some getting used to, but damn it was fun! The level designs were fun and inventive, it uses motion control in some very fun ways, and even had a stage builder and multiplayer! For those wondering what Dewey is all about, think Kororinpa meets Legend of Zelda. That's probably not a good of way describing it, but you just have to try it for yourself.
Rune Factory Frontier: This game has it's fair share of flaws (all I want to say there is that if you are buying this game, make sure you bookmark a walkthrough or you'll be lost), but it's still a very well done game. There's quite a bit to do here. If you've played the RF games on DS you know what to expect, but now it has gorgeous, console visuals. It's a very relaxing experience but the dungeon crawling won't leave you bored either. You can spend quite a bit of time with the crafting system.
Chick Chick Boom: If you think that WiiWare died recently, don't give up on it just yet: Chick Chick Boom is addictive and a ton of fun with a friend. It's worth eight bucks just to blast kernels off of corn cob man!
Bomberman Blast: Another WiiWare title, I'd really only recommend getting this if you have someone to play against, but if you don't, it has the best WiFi this side of Mario Kart. If you've ever enjoyed playing multiplayer Bomberman with friends, it's a must have!
Rabbids Go Home: Not to be confused with the mini game party games, this is a bold single player (or if you prefer, co-op) game that involves grabbing junk with a shopping cart to go to the moon! It has a really robust customization mode you can spend hours in.
